Quote: Something of a self made Warrior Goddess, Tarshna Ameretat has spent her whole like training and striving to be the best, to be incredible, to become immortal. Prompted in part by dangerous Shifter relations as well as the proximity to incredible fighters, she strove to overcome their rather significant reputations and forge a legacy that would prove to be unwavering. However, it has been a few years and the drive of her youth has fortunately been measured by time, forcing her to acknowledge -if only silently- how she has calmed in the last few years.
No longer quite so fiercely devoted to the concept of immortality in the form of battle legend, she has relaxed enough to explore other options. There are, after all, many ways to become Immortal. While dying in a burst of glory may still be in her future, but it is not something she is barreling toward at full speed. It does not do to dwell solely on one's status or devote a lifetime to becoming a legend once gone, and forget to actually live while the world is before you. Where once she would have sought out each and every opportunity for a fight, for any confrontation and as many battles as she could get beneath her belt, now it was different. Cooler thoughts prevailing and all of that.
Though she walked into the Faire where legendary battles were frequently depicted on the stages, it was not her intent to remain in the throws of stories the entire time. She rather hoped for a chance to see the elegant dancers, to listen to some of the singers and orators, to shop and browse the various food vendors. Tarshna Ameretat Wordcount: 282Quote: It turns out there is something to be said for leaving everything you had ever known behind and pursuing a new life. Sure enough the idea alone was terrifying, and in practice it was bound to be difficult and alarming as well as exhilarating. But what was done was done, and at least there could be no argument with the results. If for the change of scenery alone, it was a risk that had paid off.
Life for the Alpaca coated mare known as Shyama Spatterdash was much more interesting and colorful in her new homeland, as compared to her old herd. Before, she was like so many of the others that rarely left their mountain. Days of grazing and meandering around amidst peaceable views, with little conflict outside of the petty disagreements that arose within the herd itself. Not that such things were inconsequential, the mares of her herd could be as vicious as anything... and the predators that hunted them were nothing to sneer at either.
Here was better. A variety of views, of herds to interact with, and a limitless variety of patrons and artisans parading in and out of the Faire at any given stop. Produce, grass varieties, flowers, in a variety of forms- fresh, dried, cooked... then there was the matter of all those things baked into breads or pies or any number of other tasty dishes and preparations. Fire roasted, spiced, seasoned. Shya had never eaten so good nor imagined that so many flavors were possible. That she had found this place on her own, that she was now quite an accomplished spinner and making her own yarn and fibre to sell was a point of pride. That she had a makeshift family of her own, miles better than the herd, was a comfort.
That there was a pretty dancer that had caught her eye, well... That was something like hope.
"Luxurious wool, homespun yarn, alpaca and more! Please feel free to look and ask questions!" Shyama Spatterdash Wordcount: 332Quote: Although she is an experienced healer and scout, Tsiuri Kahu has found her way to the Market and Reenactment Faire because she has heard stories of the aerial stunt show. Quite a flyer herself, there's a certain appeal to being part of a ballet in the clouds and traveling all over this new land to perform. It would satisfy her interest in travel, as well as meeting a certain level of comfort due to her herd lifestyle and offering a variety of companionship. She'd also heard quite a bit about the variety of arts and wares on sale, and the wide array of sweet and savory foods that could be sampled there. Other than having no interest in meat, she was game to try anything, and so to the Faire she had come. Her sky dancer interview wasn't until after the shows, but that just meant she had plenty of time to take in the sights and get a feel for the place before she had to get serious and apply herself.
"First some food and shopping and getting the lay of the land," Kahu mused to herself. "Perhaps a chance to talk to some of the artists and vendors as a patron and see how they are with strangers... That might give me a good idea on if this will be a fit before I even start?"
She had found herself at an impromptu square, one of the many hubs of activity within the Faire, after traversing one of the many aisles of artisans. To one side was a stage where a variety of individuals seemed to be juggling knives, to the other was yet another aisle of artisans. The one most in view was a pretty cream and grey colored mare with deep colored feathers, an elaborate dye pattern to show off some of her wares it seemed. Aside from a variety of pottery there were hanks of colored thread set out, and she alternated between showing them off to clients and smiling and laughing with a hawk that perched nearby.
"Maybe that's a good place to start?" Tsiuri Kahu Wordcount: 350Quote: Niniane is hoping to make a good impression, particularly on the herd she hopes to one day join. Growing up in a rather isolated family unit, she has no experience being part of a large, mixed-family herd with all the dynamics that may follow. Still, from what she has seen of the Faire and other such mixed gatherings, she thinks that the chaos and frivolity will be a welcome change. Herd life seems like it will be fun, and if they're going to let her in on the fun they probably need to like her. So, a good first impression is a must. And a good first impression could start with a good gift. So now Nina walks through the Faire, in search of the perfect gift.
She keeps coming back to some of the metal workers, a pair of siblings with a delightful, mischievous energy. Their booth is a selection of brightly polished metal in various forms. Navigational tools, objects for measurement, sundials and the like. They work closely with some of the Cartographers and mapmakers, but also create interesting and unique little trinkets with moving pieces they have an entire language for. Apparently it has origins from across the seas, pieces that were brought here on the great ships with the settlers and their own unique Soquili. Apparently through a process of reverse 'engineering' -as they call it- they were able to understand how everything worked and apply that knowledge to other objects and creations. Hearing the chiming and clicking, Niniane cannot help but be enamored.
Their intriguing clock work may be a bit much... but the polished brass sundial seems like it will be an excellent icebreaker.
"I'll take this one, please. Can you package and wrap it as a gift?" Niniane Wordcount: 295Quote: With the somewhat characteristic spring to her every step, a sky colored mare with a mane and tail like the sunset made her way across the Faire's somewhat expansive market grounds. Her intention was to trade or buy or various items today, several of which she hoped to give as gifts to friends and family. So far she had made good progress on the list for others, as well as purchased a few new things for herself. With the help of a few vendors she was now adorned in glimmering gemstone chains and pretty dyed sashes in sunset tones that flattered her well. On the whole the appearance was one that she was quite pleased with, and the fresh glamor lent a lightness to her spirit that carried through to her movements and the bright shine of her berry hued eyes.
Leaving behind the jewelers and spinners and weavers, Prasanna gave a flick of her tail, sending the heavy curls tumbling around her in a reassuring brush of silken texture. She had decided she would search for another gift or two and then take a break to explore the food vendors, as the scent of various cooking treats was becoming too strong to resist or ignore.
"Maybe we'll just stop at one more booth before we take a break for lunch." Prasanna mused to herself, her steps slowing as her stomach made its opinion known with a particularly loud rumble. "Oh, but it does smell so good..."
Her hooves slowed further, forward progress halting in front of an expansive booth that seemed to be offering a selection of metal work, candles, and finely crafted lanterns. Looking at the pretty glass panels embraced by the carefully wrought metal, Prasanna gave a considering tilt of her head. "Oh, but one of those seems like it would be perfect..." Prasanna Wordcount: 306Quote: Ukiyo steps onto the Faire's grounds with a light and hopeful heart, interested in finding fresh tools for his art. He is hopeful that there is either a brush or paper specialist or both amidst all the varied booths and tents, as such things are not yet in his skill set to make for himself. Of course, due to the rather elusive nature of high caliber items, he might be forced to remedy such things in the near future. He has been honing his ink craft for years, so the idea of adding brush and paper making to a similar level does cause him a moderate crisis... To begin with, the need to relocate to have space for yet another delicate hobby, as well as where to find assistance that would help with the fine skill aspects that he himself could not accomplish.
"Let's not stress over that until we have to," Ukiyo mutters to himself, shaking some sense into his own head as he shivered from nose to tail. A quick toss of his head shook his mane back into order and then he was off at a steady walk to browse the Faire. Taking care to drift a bit like a browsing artist rather than prowl like a hunter, he wove his way around flutters and minis and all manner of strange and interesting Soquili that had also come to browse the Faire.
"Brushes and paper, brushes and paper... Please let someone have brushes and paper." He chanted to himself as he walked.
There was certainly hope for such things because he could see a few booths with scrolls and another with maps and things, indicating more than one someone has access to clean and smooth crafted paper or parchment. Now Ukiyo just needed to find some for himself. Ukiyo Wordcount: 301

Quote: Sol, ever the gentleman, makes sure to check in on Ko'ikku and then accomplishes some light busy work until he sees Sonata arrive. As soon as she appears he trots gamely to her side, offering a smooth smile and a flick of his delicate wings. With a little bit of charm and no small amount of sincerity, he talks her into allowing him to help bring the remaining baskets of roses over to her booth so she could begin arranging them for display and sale. With the heavy lifting done and the baskets set down safely out of the aisle, Sol takes a quick inventory of his friends and then marches himself toward the foot stalls.
The rows of cook tables and tents are arranged with careful allowance of space, some with fires or pits, some with barrels, a few with meticulously assembled ovens that are always a production to break down, move and rebuild with each shifting of the Faire. However, such means are more than necessary, for the goods that can be cooked or baked in them are irreplaceably delicious. It is for this reason that Sol goes confidently striding toward one of the chief bakers, offering a courteous bow of his head and a smile.
"Good day, good day. I'm afraid some of my fellow artisans are on the verge of starvation and several of us are hoping the filled pastries are available? An assortment would be best, there are those that would appreciate meat and some that would like veggie, and believe me when I say that all of us love the dessert ones. If you don't have the collaboration ones with chocolate then we'll happily have the fruit filled." Solanum "Bittersweet" Boneblossom Wordcount: 284 Quote: Quite pleased with how setup is going and the current layout of products, Esadowa is doing his best to balance organize tasting samples and chattering pleasantly with Sage Honeysuckle. The helpful green and yellow bee mouse scampers back and forth across the tabletop, moving dainty jars and pots this way and that, tweaking flower arrangements, and organizing a small selection of crackers, cheeses and slices of fruit and bread to be offered as pairing options for the different honey varieties. There are delicate berries and plump grapes piled in bowls. Sliced pears, figs and apples are elegantly fanned out and arranged in little floral shapes on one of the platters, and small bowls of nuts to the side.
"Do you think we need something else, or is this a strong enough selection of options to appeal to the varieties I have brought for the day?" Esa muses as he steps back to consider the whole arrangement, smiling as he sees Sage once again scamper across the table to carefully reorient a cluster of flowers to show them to their best advantage. He watches the mouse work for a moment, and then chooses to try again when the mouse stops for a vital tea break.
"Sage, I think you might be overthinking this whole display thing a bit. I don't want to try and challenge any of the ladies on how they decorate and showcase. I just didn't want us to stand out too much... A nice bit of decoration so we match the level of our surroundings."
The arrival of a stranger has him turning away from Sage to offer a smile an agreeable nod. "We can certainly do that! Feel free to pick something out to enjoy with your sample while we get that jar wrapped up for you." Esadowa Vaiveatoish Wordcount: 300 Quote: Encouraged by the flutter stallion's immediate welcome and the nod he makes toward the display, Rúnar gives a bob of his own head and steps forward gamely to inspect the selections. He's not really one for cheese and the like so those he skips in favor of examining the fruit. Thanks to the wide variety of travelers and trade, he recognizes most of the options and can't help the ear swivel he gives at the sight of the fresh figs. He's only had fig once or twice before, but the taste certainly made an impression and is certainly on his list of favorites. It is hard to pass up the chance to enjoy them with a potentially new favorite honey.
"Oh, if you don't mind," he says politely to the green bee mouse that is working away and arrangements and has opened a stoneware pot of the wildflower honey and is reaching for the carved wooden honey wand that lays waiting on a nearby tray. "Could I try that over a fig, please? I didn't even know they were available here at the Faire, but they're something of a new favorite."
Seeing the selection of nuts and fruit arranged as an offering for the different honey samples reminds him that he wants to check some off the different snack vendors to see if anyone offers a sort of 'Wanderer's Mix'. A selection of dried fruit, nuts or seeds and similar dry goods that can be carried in a pack on rather long trips. He would enjoy the option to supplement the usual grasses and oats, to savor once the other produce he has bought has been cooked and eaten. Rúnar Tidewater Wordcount: 279Quote: Dusk In The Hollow threads his way down the aisle of produce and turns into the row of different floral vendors, ears swiveling forward in interest as he carefully picks his way past the few few stands. The different flower varieties and arrangements don't quite speak to him so he continues on his way, carefully skirting around the floral and honey booth at the halfway mark of the aisle. The booth does get an interested glance and a thoughtful hesitation, intrigue sparking through him at the thought of a snack tray like the one he can see near the samples.
"Hmmm... a small jar of honey, some pouches of nuts, and then a visit to a few of the produce vendors for apples and figs and the like for a tray..." Dusk mutters to himself. "That would be a nice treat. Maybe after I find something to be a present... Gifts and a nice dining experience might be a perfect surprise combination."
He nods to himself, mind made up, and then steps on to the next floral booth with a considering sound. Each exhale results in a low woodwind sound, the fluted tones of his breathing a little more prone to whistling after the dunk he sustained during the bobbing for apples game. There's a similar phenomenon on windy days, presuming he is not too dry for the flute tones to come through, otherwise the sound that occurs is reminiscent of the wind through dry reeds and grasses. Whether gentle notes or softly dry whispers, there is a unique sound that occurs around him and it is probably that which prompts the vendor to look up and offer him a greeting. Dusk In The Hollow Wordcount: 281Quote: The dainty blue morpho half-unicorn mare known as Apanii Sildur is a relatively recent addition to the Faire market. She arrived in the nearby herd-lands only a few years ago, and has gone from visiting the different Faires and Markets to vending at selected ones pending seasonal options for inventory. This Traveling Season sees her bringing a smaller selection of delicate blooms to be used in different decorative elements, jewelry, and select costume preparations. Unlike some the others with their broad appeal, Apanii is appealing to a more select market, and mostly focusing on providing necessary detail elements to other artists and artisans so that they can present their best works.
She has worked with some of the mice to sew some of the more dainty blooms into little bands for one of the performances, and is setting them aside for the artists to pick up later when she hears a gentle whispering music not unlike some of the instruments she's heard the musicians play. During some of the parades and whatnot later in the day, she knows that the artists may wander from time to time through the actual vendor booths to entertain and visit. However, at this hour of the day it's far too early, and that more than anything prompts her to raise her head and turn, offering a greeting smile to the strange stallion that is approaching.
"Good morning, gentle sir," Apanii murmurs shyly. "I'm just beginning to set out a limited selection of floral elements and accessories. If you would like to tell me what you're looking for, I will do my best to help you locate it." Apanii Sildur Wordcount: 275

Quote: Morien has enjoyed his meandering through the rows of artists and artisans alike, and though he has bought a few small things here and there he is by no means weighed down by purchases. They're endearing trinkets for friends and some of the locals at the Inn, fellow wanderers and storytellers that would surely appreciate a gift bought with them in mind. Even his best friend is likely to enjoy her present, if he has done his job correctly.
Still, as they are small things he is still on the look out for more, for other things to offer both as keepsakes and treats. The snacks were somewhat easy, a few select jerky flavors for the carnivorous ones and then candied nuts, floral sugar cubes, and various flavored sweets for the others. Now he was on to more permanent keepsakes, a delicate anklet, charms to be woven in manes, small swords for the little knights he new frequented the inn.
Passing by one of the booths sees him drawing to a halt and then backing up, inspiration striking. The artist is a gray gryph mare, with expressive wings and laughing eyes as she showcases wares. Pottery suddenly seems like a perfect choice, a matched teapot and cups in one of the different glaze or firing styles. Something his friends can all enjoy and share, a matched set, but with unique options for each of them.
'Now that's just the idea,' he thinks to himself with a grin, before he's nearly jostled off his hooves by the rapid spin and course change of a green flutter stallion.
"Oh, pardon?" Morien Wordcount: 268 Quote: Aristos is unsettled, wrong footed and off balance, at the surroundings he has managed to find himself in. On the one hoof, it's a perfectly acceptable place. Not too dirty or too abandoned, not yet crowded enough he feels his every coif is in danger. It's the perfect blend of busy enough to be entertaining, to offer plenty of admirers, and quiet enough that he can preserve some sanity. On the surface, on paper, logically a lovely location. Nothing objectionable. There are mares and stallions both that he judges to be attractive enough to hold his attention and perhaps even be worthy of his time... A dalliance or three would only serve to make the surroundings more appealing.
That being said, he didn't like feeling like he wasn't the most magnificent creature here. Well, rather, he still felt as though he was. What he did not like was that everyone around him did not seem to acknowledge he was the most magnificent thing to behold at present. There were plenty admirers to be had, but they did not appear inclined to make good on the admiration.
He was normal here. Unremarkable, it seemed. But what else could one expect when even the most drab could paint, adorn, bedeck, drape and otherwise dazzle themselves into something far beyond their base nature. The grey mare at the pottery booth was one mere example, now that he was looking around. A perfectly lovely dark sky flutter stallion painted with the aurora was a few rows over, selling honey with a flint of bright eyes and a chime of silver bells. Not far away stood a mountain mist blue-purple Talbuk Cerynei stallion stood with various decorative elements including an autumn crown. His eyes were fixed unwaveringly on Aristos, but not in a way that suggested admiration. The whole thing prompted Aristos into movement, spinning to remove himself from the situation when he found himself crashing into a stallion the color of wine with wings like clouds.
"Ah... My apologies." Aristos Wordcount: 336

Quote: As part of the Traveling Faire's somewhat elaborate security system, Nahale surely represents a visual deterrent aspect. He is, to put such things mildly, bringing some serious muscle in the operation. (Or at least, one aspect of it, as previously stated the system is far more elaborate than a single individual could provide.) The draft Talbuk stallion stands head and even withers over most of the crowd, and when he stomps a heavy hoof or moves decisively, most tend to notice.
Seeing the green flutter loitering with a rather unkind expression, Nahale is geared up to intervene decisively in the instance it is required. Sovanna is a good friend and quite well regarded besides, even above and beyond being a respected artisan of the Faire. He is stepping forward, prepared to make a point, when he sees the green flutter instead decide to leave rather than cause trouble. The abrupt spin and attempt to flee might have been prompted by Nahale's warning glare, or maybe reality just clicked for the stranger and he realized he was being off putting and rude.
Either way, retreat and discretion is the better part of valor. Nahale rumbles approvingly as he watches the stranger move away, giving Terhi another look and a nod to communicate with a fellow member of security. When the hawk lifts his head and chirps a sharp series of sounds to relay a notice to the rest of the team, the Talbuk gives another approving nod and does his best to melt back into the crowd. He steps back into the flow of movement and picks up a trot, winding around meandering shoppers as he moves a few aisles over to ensure the stranger is still departing and hasn't instead gone to cause trouble elsewhere. Nahale Wordcount: 295Quote: Tiam Asra winds her way through the different aisles with eyes and ears perked for hint of the Courts. Either by accent on floating words, or visual markers of the stars or night, of gems or radiance... If there are individuals from her old life hidden here among the vendors and shoppers and artisans, she means to find them. Not with the intent of taking them back or even reporting on their presence or defection... Instead with the interest of joining them in exile, so she no longer feels lonely.
Keeping her head on a swivel, Tiam Asra draws up short when she hears the heavy, rhythmic thud of hooves approaching. It proves the best decision, as a large draft stallion goes winding by with a nod and a smart chime of adornments and the faint scent of flowers drifting in his wake. Wherever he was off to he seems inclined to hurry, eyes fixed keenly ahead and passing her without comment. Not an enemy or a particular aspect of concern for her, but noteworthy.
"Perhaps asking for direction is a possibility after all," Tiam mused to herself as she watched him move onward. "Then again, if they've taken up false names then there's no telling if they could be found. Maybe we'll just continue on as we have, and hope for the best."
Resolved to be self-sufficient, at least or now, she moves down another aisle and then hesitates at the familiar sound of words. Not from the Court she became a handmaiden of, but an ally... Not Stars but Jewels instead, perhaps?
"Now what, pray tell, are Princes of Jewels doing way out here?" Tiam Asra Wordcount: 277Quote: Khajrayna doesn't intend to become a stalker or a nuisance, so while he does think the softly radiant canid mare is interesting, he won't be relentlessly pursuing her through the Faire. Instead he drifts along in tandem for awhile, keeping an eye on her from several booths back and then by pacing down a parallel aisle. When it seems like she continues to search for something but in a rather relaxed way, he determines there's no danger or need for caution and decides to let it lie for the time being.
She seems to be attracted to one of the jewel sellers as turns her nose in that direction, so Khaj nods to himself and moves on. Leaving her behind to do her shopping or searching as she will, he moves toward the refreshment booths with a higher degree of interest and motivation. A reward in the form of food sounds perfectly reasonable, after a busy morning of hauling goods. His back and shoulders will appreciate the reprieve, and his stomach is threatening to make itself known if it isn't soon appeased.
"Maybe the baked apples will be ready by now?" Khajrayna muses to himself with a quick flick of his eyes skyward to note the position of the sun. It is approaching noon at this point, which is a fairly good sign. "Even if the poach pears aren't done yet.. compromise. Baked apples for lunch, possibly in a pastry... poached pears later for dessert. Maybe Nel is done with helping the florists and can take a break with me. Better get her something special just in case." Khajrayna Wordcount: 268 Quote: Giving a snap of his serpentine tail and the silver tassel at the end, Cove makes a somewhat agreeable rumbling sound in his chest in response to his half brother's remark. True enough, their father was not so demanding nor as domineering as some of the other Lords of the Courts, such as Tirion, Lord of Night and Stars... (A most notable example, to be sure.) But he was no walk in the park either.
Strong leaders made strong herds, or at least that tended to be the beliefs of the Courts. Cove might agree with that but he would also point out that there were many types of strength. For their part, at the very least, Tirion's sort of overbearing, relentless rage was of no interest. The Court of Jewels was not run like that either, but still the Lord had decisive, unwavering ideas about how things were to be run.
"Not the only one, but certainly everything within the herd lands is under his control." Cove pointed out with a shrug. "The only way he'll allow life to be. He is his own kind of monster, I rather think. Not like Lord Tirion, but just as prone to being his own enemy. Trapped by his ideals. Unwavering. Even when it costs him sons and heirs. He won't admit fault at the risk of losing face, but it all seems to cost more if you ask me."
Giving a glancing look over the vendors near them, and the different options of jewels and jewelry present, quietly drives home the point that they're not the only purveyors of fine wares. So long as they can continue to be unknown among the crowd, and not present a danger to this new land, he will be content. Cove Wordcount: 295Quote: Promptly returning to working on his set up, Niko begins unwrapping and arranging jewels with the occasional nudge from his nose or wings. They sparkle and shine merrily in the slow liquid drip of autumnal sunshine, prompting an adjustment here or there and a faint sound of approval from the stallion when he was satisfied with the arrangement. As a new vendor he could only hope to grab attention with different offerings and a pleasant demeanor should someone stop to inspect them.
"We are far beyond the Court and surrounding territories now," Niko returned with a shrug. "Even though we do not know the exact events that shaped him, we can guess based off of the current structure of the Courts and the actions of those therein. A hard upbringing might make for a hard heart, even in the nobles and royals. He's not as bad bad as he could be? Certainly not so bad as some of the others, which means our earlier years were not as harsh as some of our kin, and we likewise are not so harsh as we might have been if matters were different."
He makes a contemplative sound and rearranges the next few gems he has unpacked, flicking a glance at his half brother. "There's no way to know how things will change with our defection, and I suppose it's uncharitable to assume he would react badly if more of our kin followed our example. But I would rather not risk it. I don't think it's unwarranted to presume a negative response, a King is bound to resent losing loyal subjects... Then again, perhaps it is an an unfairly narrow view of character." Niko Wordcount: 280

Quote: As the general levels of activity for the Faire rise with the approaching mealtime, so too does the noise level. Where once was only mild conversation and soft footsteps becomes a rising tide of conversation and steps, interrupted by cresting calls of hawkers, entertainers, or those seeking the attention of their friends and loved ones. Havoc hears a mare summon her wayward foals and turns to watch with no small amount of surprise as five of them skitter back to her from seemingly all directions.
As a gift from spirits, Havoc was one of two children but knows he could have easily been completely alone or one of an army of children. In fact he has heard stories, Teleri had shared them as well as an explanation of the occasional companions she showed to the faire. Her nieces and nephews by birth, but due to the influence of troublesome spirits they numbered well over a hundred. Far more than a single mother could handle at a given time, even with help. As such, the baskets had been dispersed through the Flock to be raised by communal effort and volunteer parenting. Teleri herself had taken on a good six or so, as far as he knew, but he had only managed to meet a few of them. Not all had shared his mother's interest in wandering and her desire to leave the Flocklands, and even if they did like the idea of exploring not many of them had chosen to stay once outside.
Giving himself a silent shake, Havoc tried to reorganize his thoughts and bring himself back to the present. Though it was getting crowded, approaching the level of nerve-wracking, he also knew that meals at the Faire were not to be missed. It would be worth dealing with the crowd to make his way to the food court for something baked or grilled... he could tell by the scents already hanging in the air.
"Food will make it better." He mumbled to himself. Cry Havoc Wordcount: 334 Quote: Though she had every intention of wading through the madness in the interest of finding Gethin and then perhaps getting him to show her around, Stanza is quickly realizing that is something of a losing battle. The chaos and energy of the Faire aside, as she moves down the aisle she's finding it harder and harder to resist the allure of the food scents that waft from the cook tents.
"Alright, alright..." Stanza muses aloud to herself when she feels like the growl of her stomach is threatening to become audible to the entirety of the Faire. "I hear you. Maybe skipping breakfast and then going on a rather lengthy journey was poor decision making at work. Even a few mouthfuls of grass on the way aren't going to fix that. So what if we adopt a new plan? Instead of finding Gethin first, in all this madness... We splurge on a snack or two now, and take something to go... and then I try to find Gethin. Hopefully while the food is still warm, and if not, at least an attempt was made... Besides, I could take it for later, and he and I could go on a break or find him something else if time allows for it."
Somewhat cheered by the thought, she spots a vendor offering candied berries by the skewer or by the pouch, and eagerly steps up. There's a glistening hard sugar shell on the strawberries that makes them seem even more red, and she finds herself chewing eagerly as she steps forward. "Hello, two pouches please? Oh, a free sample? Thank you very much."
Today is going to be a marvelous day. Stanza Wordcount: 279Quote: Time was thundering cheerfully along toward the mid-day meal, which meant that the crush of bodies amidst the cook tents and food stalls was bound to increase a good three-fold. If they weren't lured by the good smells before, they surely would as the sun climbed higher, and the general buzz of the Faire rose with the high of excitement and joy from performances and spectacles alike.
Though he had been somewhat swayed by the rich scent of food, Tryst would argue that the 'distraction' had stood him and the herd interests in good stead. After all, it meant that he was moving through the food stalls before the crowds could get there. Yes he had his pick of prime fresh snacks and cooked meals, but that was beside the point. In his own way he'd wound up exactly where he needed to be.
Tryst had happened upon the baker with whom he had trade business, and therefore been able to unload his precious cargo. The Hive's honey jars were promptly exchanged for payment as well as a bonus sampling of the snacks in question, which he carefully packed away to carry safely home again... For the sake of a smile from his Lady, he'd do far more.
But surely a snack was not enough, not for his Vaara. So with business concluded, Tryst set out again through the Faire. He put the food stalls behind him and went in search of vendors, thinking that some jewelry and perhaps a treat or two for the birds that were so fond of her.
"There's that spread they had jars of amidst the produce..." The heavy Unicorn stallion mused to himself as he walked. "And sacks of mixed seeds... Maybe dried fruit? A trail mix would be good to scatter in the meadow, it might encourage some different visitors for her to observe."

Quote: All in all, it has been quite an eventful but pleasant day at the Faire, by Tarshna Ameretat's reckoning. While she had attended such events before -though admittedly they were few and far between- it seemed to her that this particular stop afforded more room and opportunity for collaboration. As such, there were full tourney fields as well as a larger vendor village than her previous experiences. She had devoted several candle marks worth of time to browsing the various arts and crafts offered by the talented makers, and then paused to enjoy a snack to renew her flagging resources.
A sample of rich honey mead from one of the vendors had been a delightful find after she'd stopped for a refreshing drink of water. Buying a bottle and stowing it in her packs, she had moved on for a delightful snack and found the perfect thing. Fierce face aside, Tarshna had a bit of a sweet tooth, and she was delighted to find several booths catering to such cravings.
Early amongst the cook tents was a vendor with a metal griddle over coals, serving fresh peaches direct and hot off the grill with an option of a churned, icy dessert that a collaborating artisan called ice cream. The ice cream was apparently kept nearby in heavy buckets with large chunks of ice from the mountain set into a stone chill box, being carefully managed by a combination of Soquili and familiars. Their recommended option was delicately flavored with vanilla bean, the dark flecks visible against the white crystals that began to melt when scooped over the hot peach and served promptly. Tarshna gave an appreciative nod to the raccoon that delivered the dish to her and then settled in to eat, wings flaring in surprise at the first bite.
"Wow!" The warrior mare muttered in appreciation and surprise. "This is fantastic, thank you." Tarshna Ameretat Wordcount: 314Quote: "Thank you so much for stopping by today." The tuxedo alpaca mare murmurs politely as she settles the last few bundles of raw fibre and several skeins of spun yarn into the waiting canvas and leather transport packs. "Let me know if that works out the way you're planning, and you'd like more. While I wait to hear from you about the cream color, I will go ahead and arrange for those lighter tans, the multi tone mix, and the grey you're wanting for the next show..."
Hearing the other mare agree, Shyama nods politely as the fibre artist she's just brokered quite a deal with cheerfully takes her packed up purchases and sets of on her way. It's too soon to call them friends but a professional alliance is still a marvelous and somewhat unexpected win. Not bad for her first Faire, to be sure.
"Alright remember to up the other colors and we're holding on the cream selection." Shya murmurs to herself, picking up the pencil with her lips and checking a few things off in her book.
"Greetings and good afternoon, good sirs and gentle ladies! We have lovely, wool and fibre options for your knitting, spinning and weaving needs! Please feel free to browse."
Hopefully after the lunch crush has had time to clear out she can negotiate a quick break with one of the other artists.. If they'll mind her stall she can dart off to the food vendors and bring back some snacks for this section of the Faire... Unless one of the wandering vendors finds their way over here first. Shyama Spatterdash Wordcount: 267Quote: Tsiuri Kahu has come to believe in love at first sight, both in the category of her relationship as well as that of a pretty trinket. Swiftly spotting an elegant jewelry collection bowl amidst the many pottery options, she steps forward and gestures to it eagerly. The glaze is a swirl of blues like her own coat combined with soft teals and blacks that directly remind her of her beloved Anselm. Though he may not see it, she will think of them when she does, and it will be yet another lovely thing to speak with him about when relaying tales of her Faire adventure.
The grey mare who introduced herself as Sovanna gives a smile and an understanding wink, speaking promptly to the mice and raccoons that have been helping her set out pieces and wrap up purchases the entire time. They spring into action with cheerful squeaks, asking questions as they work.
Tsiuri gives them greeting nods and tries to answer the flurry of inquiries as they come. "Yes, thank you. A short journey. Mostly by air? Careful wrapping should be fine. Well it is a gift but mostly for myself, thank you. No gift wrap just careful travel packaging. Thank you so much for your help. Yes this pack please."
The Potter and Dye Mistress hands over her change and they exchange a few more pleasantries before another shopper requires her attention, allowing Tsiuri to bid the others farewell before moving on to the next booth that has attracted her attention. There are assorted chimes and carillons of bells hung from the display racks of this next booth and they sing sweetly in the wind.
"Might I ask about these, please?" Tsiuri Kahu Wordcount: 284 Quote: With the sundial purchased and tucked away, Niniane caves to her curiosity and engaged the sister of the pair in conversation. She can't help but ask about the different little clockwork creations, ears swiveling forward as the dark bay lady explains that they're working on little clockwork toys that will amble across level surfaces like the tables so many of their fellows are displayed on today. They'll need to be carefully wound up, the mare explains, gesturing to the keys being wielded by some of the mice.
"Truly marvelous." Niniane offers with a smile and a thankful nod. "I appreciate your explanation and your time. Thank you so much, and I wish you a prosperous rest of the Faire."
Flicking her tail idly, head full of the delicate whirling gears and spinning keys that she had seen scattered across the table, Niniane continues walking through the avenue of artisans. She's never thought of or fancied herself as something of an inventor... but seeing the gears and crystals and the tiny tools used to align them had been a fascinating experience. Perhaps something worth collecting for her own sake, and not just as gifts for the herd she was hoping would embrace her as one of their own.
In the end, spending the day at the Faire in search of offerings with which to make a good impression means that Niniane has seen all manner of things... and she has purchased more than a few, considering the different parties in the herd. The sundial, a box of elegantly iced cookies, a bottle of elderberry wine, a couple of solid bangles, several carefully labeled packets of seeds for both flowers and produce. Niniane Wordcount: 280Quote: Aside from packs to carry her purchases, the only adornment Prasanna had been wearing when she arrived at the Faire was the sunset beaded necklace from her family. In the course of her shopping she had found a jeweler happy to help her with a quick adjustment and clasp change so it was more comfortable, as well as to sell a set of bangles she packed away as a gift. From there she had moved on to the different adornment makers until she had found the perfect combination of beads and metals and sashes to suit her own style. The different color options meant she could find something to perfectly compliment her sunset tones as well as those of the necklace, adding to the cohesion of it all.
She had thought the sashes would be the height of her good fortune, but upon approaching the lantern makers booth it seemed she had been mistaken. There were several typical lantern options along one stretch of table, but then the bright and radiant and fantastical took over. Not only were there all manner of sizes, but strange and exotic shapes, various metal tones, and even stained and colored glass options stood there sparkling proudly in the sunlight. Prasanna found herself drawing to a helpless stop before a black iron creation with panels in shades of the sunset, the glass etched with delicate sun motifs. It was perfect for her, and she couldn't bear to resist it.
"Excuse me, may I ask you about these lanterns, please?" She asked hopefully, barely managing to tear her eyes away. Prasanna Wordcount: 264 Quote: Unleashed for the first time upon the Faire, they blue roan fox stallion known as Ukiyo goes in search of The Four Treasures of the Study. He is a male on a mission, no doubt. The Four Treasures are held in such high esteem that he refuses to settle for something sub-par, hence the way his mind is already darting down avenues of 'what ifs' or 'and then' as he tries to summon a plan for a somewhat unwilling expansion his hobbies might inevitably go through.
The Faire is one of his 'last, great hopes' for such things. Even if he has to seek out the traveling faire to find what he needs, at least the knowledge such a thing is possible can be tucked away until the day it becomes relevant. Particularly, he hopes to find good quality paper and both soft and hard brushes with which to do his calligraphy.
If there isn't a skilled brush maker in the area, Ukiyo will need options to source for components... for the bristles, this means someone such as a hunter, or a tannery. He'll need an assortment of hides and hair, at minimum: goat, weasel, hog, buffalo, wolf or rabbit... and if he again tries to go particularly fancy, perhaps fowl or deer. The handles will be an easier matter, requiring bamboo or perhaps sandalwood if he's feeling particularly adventurous. Exotic materials such as precious metals or jade will surely wait until he has mastered his technique, if they are used at all.
"No more worst case scenarios, too many steps." He scolds himself mildly. "Paper experts first, the rest later." Ukiyo Wordcount: 271

Quote: Because he flirts like breathing, Solanum Boneblossom spends his time among the cook tents sweet talking the nearest artisan mares and stallions. There are some that wave him off so they can get back to work, and still others that will stand there and trade quip and compliment evenly, encouraging and discouraging in turn. It's all in good fun, though he does not underestimate the power of a compliment in turning a frown into a radiant smile, or completely redirecting the energy of one's day.
There's no harm in going to buy pastries and chatting up a pretty face. If there is a warning look or word he moves on, circling back to those that laugh or flatter him in return. He doesn't want to get on anyone's nerves, but it does pass the time and hopefully ensure everyone is having a good day.
"You are the most radiant creature I have ever beheld," he delivers one final flattery as the basket of pastries is handed over, smiling widely as the baker laughs and waves him off. "I will go, sustained by your beauty and the marvelous pastries you have made. You have my sincerest thanks."
Giving a flirtatious wink and a flick of his tail, he grabs the handle of the basket and sets out at a merry trot back toward his section of the Faire. Here and there he swings by a different artisan booth, preferring the basket so his friends can pick a pastry and nodding or winking when they offer thanks. He's back at his own spot before long, setting the basket at one corner of his booth and offering a winning smile to Ko'ikku and Sonata. "Ladies. I've brought back pastries. Please join me for a snack and some tea, hmm?" Solanum "Bittersweet" Boneblossom Wordcount: 296 Quote: Once Esadowa has fetched the first jar of honey requested and set it aside, he finds himself accomplishing polite busy work as Sage and the patron talk and the samples and snacks are offered. The commentary about figs has him giving a gentle, polite laugh and making an understanding rumble of sound in his chest.
"Mmmm, I can certainly understand your surprise. Produce such as that aren't exactly common in most of the herds around here, even if one happens to have a grove or orchard with dedicated caretakers. However, due to the number of artists and trades folk that the Faire happens to attract, and how far-reaching or far traveling the individuals or the herds are... There are actually a significant amount of rare goods here for sale or trade. Not just objects from foreign artists and craftsman, but ripe or near-ripe produce including fruit and vegetables, as well as plants and seedlings, herb and seeds... We also have makers of a number of interesting pottery and glass options for storage, wooden crates and boxes, even casks."
Esa gives a tilt of his head, considering matters and running through the layout in his mind. "While I can't put my hoof on a specific, singular booth... If you head about three rows over you'll find the Festival of Fruit and Vegetable section. There should be at least three vendors with fig varieties by the basket. Just the thing to enjoy with honey, and perhaps some of the treats from one of the bakers." Esadowa Vaiveatoish Wordcount: 253 Quote: "I'm beginning to realize there's all sorts of things to experience and enjoy at the Faire." Rúnar murmurs appreciatively as he glaces over the selection offered at the booth and the stalls nearby. "Truth be told, the area seems to have more to offer than even the most elaborate trade hubs that I've visited before... here or abroad. Seeing this today, I can't think of anything that comes close back in my homeland."
His ears swivel forward in intrigue at the list of supplies readily available, considering the fact that so many of them can be used in the further creation of other goods, or as tools for additional artisans. Not just farmers and hunters and artisans here, but working craftsmen, healers, brewers, builders... The lists were unending, the possibilities beyond the scope of what he can even begin to guess.
The somewhat more direct lead to the appropriate farm and vendors does make him perk up with no small amount of excitement, chewing the sample snack with relish as he maps out his route. He gives an approving nod at the green mouse asking if he'd like a jar of it as well, then hands over coins to pay for everything.
"The promise of figs and pastries definitely seems to indicate I'm in the right place." Rune laughs as he accepts his change and stows away his purchase in his pack. "Thank you very much for your time and expertise, and an excellent product. I wish you a highly successful and pleasant day. It seems I have quite a bit of shopping to get to, so I'll be on my way." Rúnar Tidewater Wordcount: 272 Quote: One might argue we are all a product of our environment, for good or ill or pure neutrality being an entirely different discussion. Regardless of the morality of the matter, Dusk In The Hollow feels that due to his previous experience with herds of a more conventional appearance and perhaps a conservative nature, he is somewhat predisposed to see strangers reacting poorly to his appearance.
In deference to his strange and perhaps a little daunting appearance, Dusk makes sure to offer greetings and then bids farewell to the artists and vendors he stops and shops with, giving them a polite nod if they're otherwise occupied with shoppers present. His strange skull and hollow sockets, the rasp-woodwind-sigh of his breath, the snap of his toothy jaws... all of these things add up to a rather strange, daunting appearance.
Though, most of the time he has noticed that foals are faster to get over such fears than adults. Adults, if they are wary of him at first, tend to remain so even if they do so reluctantly. No matter how polite he might be. But that doesn't mean he won't try to make a good impression while shopping the Faire, for all that it is by far the most welcoming and relaxed place he has ever been to. Perhaps he just wants to be cognizant of the matter and refuses to take it all for granted.
Either way, his general polite greeting is met with a cheerful greeting from the butterfly mare who quickly offers assistance. With no real plan, he ponders the question for a moment and then gives a determined nod.
"Anything in shades of purple, or perhaps an orange or gold... and if there's night blooming motifs, those may also be appropriate? We could start there, in any case, and then see how things go... I am shopping for my Lady." Dusk In The Hollow Wordcount: 312Quote: The fact that there's a hesitation in the stranger prompts a patient but curious headtilt, waiting him out. It is, admittedly, quite nice to speak to a male who seems to give such thought to his requests and inquiries. Evidently the lady he is shopping for is dear to him indeed, which warms something in her chest to think about.
A delicate patch of black and bright blues amidst the bright floral options all around her, Apanii gives the stranger a reassuring smile and a nod before getting back to work, letting him think the matter over as she unpacks and arranges. When he seems to come to a decision and begins to list what he is looking for, she pauses to listen, nodding to indicate her gentle understanding of the goal.
"I see, I see." She muses. "For the most part these are often pursued by other artists for elements or some of the theaters for costuming. That being said, I do have some long springs of lavender, mostly fresh in the event someone wants to take them to dry. I might recommend something like a crown of night blooming jasmine, but I'm afraid that would need to be gotten fresh perhaps at a night market... or from one of the enchanted sellers? There are a few that specialize in ever-bloom designs, further down this aisle here."
She gave a helpful gesture further along the avenue of flowers, thinking matters over for a few moments.
"The enchanted artists might also have something golden, glowing or sparkling that might also suit her? If you wanted to browse and see if they strike your fancy. From the sound of things, she could certainly pull it off." Apanii Sildur Wordcount: 285

Quote: Right about at the time that Morien has the idea of shopping for a tea serving set, or rather an assortment of cups that could be arranged into one that will cater to the varied aesthetics of his usual friends and companions, he attempts to change course. The vendor's booth is just ahead, across a busy intersection with fairly clear paths of traffic. Morien sidesteps into the proper flow of traffic, so he's rather taken by surprise when the verdant stranger crashes into him after executing an abrupt about-turn. Which, accidents happen all the time, so Morien isn't upset by the matter... But the apology is a little lackluster.
The hit is a solid one, a crash of chest and shoulder into equally solid chest and shoulder. Morien twists and folds himself, drifting sideways with a rapid billow of his mane and swing of his earring, just managing to avoid their legs being tangled or any further injury. It's something of a miracle that they don't break any of their accessories, their necklaces almost catching between the layers of the stranger's beads and the entwined branches of Morien's own adornment. Morien draws to a halt and shakes himself from his nose to his tail, putting himself to rights and then blinking in surprise at the way the stranger mutters a few careless words and then keeps going.
'Well, clearly someone is in a hurry to get... somewhere.' The mulberry colored Fluttercorn stallion thought to himself as he glanced back to see the other stallion's continued retreat. "Glad you're not injured. Have a nice day?"
His words didn't slow the stranger down in the slightest, so Morien shook it off and turned back to the task at hand, stepping forward to the pottery booth with a pleasant smile and a nod of his head. "Good day. I was wondering if you had individual cups in various styles and colors I could build my own set from? I have quite a few friends and I would like to find them each cups that would suit their individuality." Morien Wordcount: 345 Quote: Aristos is somewhat shocked back out of his head, or rather into awareness, when he crashes rather solidly into the stranger that had apparently been moving along behind him. He had merely meant to turn away from the bustling intersection of vendors and shoppers, to remove himself from this place which was so clearly not his home nor somewhere he belonged. In so doing he apparently disrupted the established flow of foot traffic, and wound up nearly taking himself and the other stallion. Breath escapes him in a whoosh and he stumbles slightly but stays on his hooves, ducking his head slightly in shame as he forges forward even more resolutely. He needs to get away from this place, clearly everything is wrong here.
Offering a rather uninspired farewell out of sheer embarrassment, Aristos keeps his head slightly ducked and picks up speed to a brisk trot. The sooner he gets away from here, the happier he'll be... And maybe with some distance, the horribly embarrassed flush of red that burns up his pale muzzle and cheeks will have time to cool and fade away.
'Get away from here...' Aristos thinks to himself, flustered and frustrated and annoyed about both. 'Anywhere is better than here.'
Today has been a complete disappointment, all things considered. He had come to this place for entertainment and, well, catering to his ego, if truth be told. Such a thing certainly had not happened. He was no rose among thorns or swan among common ducks... He was just another songbird, surrounded by a glimmering variety of others. Disappointing.
Thankfully, the gates were in sight, and soon he would be gone from here. Aristos Wordcount: 277

Quote: Putting aside thoughts of the softly radiant lady that reminded him of another such beauty that was a well-established feature of the Faire, Nahale focuses his energy on moving smoothly through the Faire to keep the antagonistic green flutter unicorn cross in sight. His unsettling staring at Sovanna now interrupted and behind him, with a fairly awkward collision with a stranger also under his wings, he seems to be focusing on keeping his head down. Starting trouble has clearly taken a step back, now, perhaps beaten down by shame and a desire to escape. In Nahale's experience, most youths need to learn a lesson or three, some harder than others. If this is the young green fluttercorn's lessons, then so be it. He's learned and, by all accounts, he appears to be leaving. The gates are in sight or him and Nahale when the Talbuk stallion halts, nodding a greeting at the nearest vendors as he makes sure that the stranger actually makes it through them.
The Angeni mare who sees him lifts her head immediately, eyes sweeping around the space to catch on the multi-colored stallion moving swiftly to the exit. There's understanding in her face when she flicks a look back to Nahale, giving him an appreciative nod when he notices.
"He should have had enough and not be returning," Nahale explains though it is largely unnecessary. "All the same, should he, put up a general alert whistle to Security, alright? Terhi and I don't much like the look of him, and we won't allow him to make trouble for you and the other ladies."
Satisfied things are quiet for now, Nahale moves back toward the heart of the Faire, hoping to visit with some of his favorite artists and vendors, and shake off the grey mood now clinging to him. "What a day." Nahale Wordcount: 306Quote: Though she's somewhat used to the unfeeling eyes of the Court, Tiam Asra has to admit the regard of this strange herd slash Faire is a different sort of pressure. She feels the weight of them, still, but there's a searching sort of feeling, a careful scrutiny. Patience, but expectation. Not like the Court, where they were sigh high above all that everything felt of derision and gave her the feel of being either insignificant or a hunted creature.
There is a rhythm and liveliness to this place, as though several not-quite-heard songs are playing and the different groups have chosen one to dance to. She is not yet a part of it yet, not called to the dance, but she could be... easily enough, if those that she is hoping to see again are actually here. Considering she has just stumbled across some of the Princes from a different Court, the likelihood is good.
"Good afternoon, Gentlemen." The pawed handmaiden offers a sot greeting as she steps up to the booth, eyes shifting between the two Suti cross stallions with their gemstone encrustations.
The crystals gleam in the sunlight, sparkling and throwing tiny prismatic rainbows in all directions. She knows that they're a mark of station in the Court of Jewels, but beyond that she was not provided much detail in her basic introductory education. She can identify the nobility and some of the royals by sight from a distance, and that was all that was required when performing her duties in the service of other ladies.
"Or should I say, Your Royal Highnesses?" She was not bowing, in these free lands, but she would still be respectful while being direct. Tiam Asra Wordcount: 282Quote: 'Ahh, of course, right on time.' Cove thinks with a strange sort of hindsight sardonic air that he manages keep to himself. Just as he finishes thinking that things will remain well as long as they are unknown amongst this crowd, here comes fate with a swift kick. Even if they are not known directly, the cool feminine greeting they receive with their proper titles means that his first innocent misguided idea was... well, naive, to say the least.
Cove cannot resist the opportunity to give Niko the most eloquently speaking look he can summon in such circumstances. Not a flat-out scowl, because 'look what you've done' wouldn't apply here. But there's a certain blend of 'I knew this would happen' and 'see, it already begins' behind his pale silver eyes when he looked at the other stallion. There's also a certain air of nervousness below it all, but hopefully his immediate kick reflex of 'oh hell, we've been found... how do we begin damage control, or how long do you think before he finds out?' is kept under wraps.
"Good afternoon, Lady Fair." Cove offers with a graceful turn and a polite incline of his head. It's a gentlemanly bow, of a kind, but not exactly out of place in this herd. He's seen several of the stallions greeting mares with far more flamboyant airs, when their temperament, character or the occasion called for it. "Just 'Gentlemen' will suit us fine, or by name if you prefer. The Faire's monarchs are often confined to stage and battlefield, not so much part of the vendor and artisan's experience." Cove Wordcount: 268Quote: "All the same, I think we would all prefer that the Courts not know where to find us, so that we continue to stay outside of his control." Niko points out with a casual sardonic air while he moved some more of the gems across the wooden surface of the stall. He flicks his ear in his brother's direction, listening to Cove speak, until the gentle interruption of a soft feminine voice distracts both of them from their current topic.
Niko finds that the discussion of their father is easy to depart from in the face of new occurrences. The fact that both he and Cove are here in a rather subtle capacity and yet are suddenly being addressed by the proper form of title is, eye opening to say the least. An easy and immediate demand on their attention, prompting them both to redirect their attention in the direction of the new arrival.
She is beautiful but not familiar to him, and with a quick glance toward Cove he notes that there's no recognition in his brother's face either. A stranger that knows them isn't surprising, considering the fact that much of the Court was designed to be overlooked or nearly invisible. The servers and attendants are best if not seen or heard, except perhaps when they arrive in your new life and speak your title when you attempt to hide.
"My brother makes a fine point, my lady. I find that you have us at something of a disadvantage, seeing as it seems you recognize us while we do not know you. It would perhaps be more appropriate if you had a chaperone, though we are at least out in the open... I admit I wasn't expecting a strange Lady to be seeking us out. Is there something we can assist you with?" Niko Wordcount: 305

Quote: Shopping and trading in general are moderately enjoyable, the Bardic Knight has found, thought still not held so dearly to him as making music and telling stories tends to be. That being said, there is something utterly delightful about finding the perfect gift, or purchase, in this case one that can be customized and shuffled to reflect the appearances and temperaments of those he considers to be his closest friends and companions.
Striding confidently down a relatively clear avenue, Morien hums an idly lilting melody to himself as he paces through the Faire, packs now weighted down with carefully wrapped teacups bearing designs that are reminiscent or representative of his dearest friends. Whether the colors or patterns of the pottery or design is what drew him, he picked each individual cup with careful attention. The result was an interesting combination when taken all together, but rarely would they have cause for such a gathering. More than likely he will need to contend himself with the gathering of three to six of the group, and be well pleased enough with such a showing.
Admittedly, he was looking forward to -well- everyones' expressions as he slowly introduced them to their carefully selected drinking vessels. Or maybe he'd just set the cups out and see who picked what?
"That might be more like a matchmaking service than we can comfortably allow." The stallion mused to himself, before a sudden lightning strike of inspiration hit him.
"Although, it does seem to be something of a shame to drink the same old blend when introducing a pretty new gift for everyone." Morien drew up sharply, staring down an avenue of treats and gifts, noting the appearance of a tea vendor in their midst. "Maybe I should also get some new tea blends to make and serve them in their new cups?"
Stepping up to the black and teal flutter stallion who was clearly the vendor, Morien offered a nod of greeting. "I am hoping to find some interesting new tea options to serve a rather varied party, or a few of them, as the case may be. Do you have recommendations regarding the best blends, or something different from what might be considered traditional to the area? They're rather far ranging, so something that inadvertently reminds them of home or a far-off place would be a most welcome coincidence." Morien Wordcount: 394Quote: Loathe as he might be to admit it, even the most brazen of flirts needs to rest at some point. While Solanum wouldn't consider himself to be quite so bold, he was perhaps up there... but in no way interested in polling his friends and fellow vendors to hear their opinions. On the one hand, his ego might not be able to take it, on the other he would hate to thus arm his friends and allies with such heavy hitting gossip. He couldn't let them all vote he was so shameless and then laugh about it for the rest of their association. He'd have to quit and move somewhere else, starting all over again.
More trouble than it was worth. He had friends and family amidst the Faire, even if they teased him. Especially if they teased him? He certainly couldn't imagine feeling so fond about such remarks if they were delivered by somebody else. This place was home, with family and friends that knew too much, said too much, laughed too much. Business was good and trade was better and if he had a few herdmates that he allowed to laugh at his expense, well, that was his choice. It was worth it.
Shaking all that off for now, he offered a greeting murmur to the burgundy, white and gold stranger and then tipped his head consideringly at the request. "I have a few options, truth be told... As far as some unexpected elements, there is a variety with fig, and one with mandarin... and this over here is a collaboration with one of the artisans. It is a black tea that has chips of dark chocolate in it, as well as orange, against a backdrop of lemon balm leaves with safflower, calendula, marigold and sunflower petals."
Warming slightly to the topic, Sol gives a nod as he considers matters. "These offer a combination of familiar qualities with unexpected surprise, some of them featuring far-ranging ingredients that would meet your requirements. I think anyone would be pleased with the offerings, regardless of where they hail from." Solanum Boneblossom Wordcount: 348

Quote: After walking the outer perimeter of the vendors to make sure the strangely temperamental flutter corn stallion had not crept back in through a different entrance, Nahale decides to let the matter rest now. He's put the word out to an artist or two, just on the chance the youngling decides to be an idiot, but the Faire is busy enough he cannot dwell either. Sovanna was well and undisturbed, the angered stallion was gone, and the Security team was primed to be notified with the informant network alive and well. Time to move on to another task at hand.
And of course, it is just to his fortunes that such a task presents itself. The Star Maiden is a new enough appearance in the herd that her movements catch his eye, aided perhaps by her connection to the lady he has a vested interest in. Regardless of the why of it, seeing Tiam Asra standing before two gem merchants immediately catches Nahale's attention, as does the tension he can see coursing over her.
She seems to know these two stallions, and there's something about their appearance at the Festival that has her concerned. If Asra is concerned, Nahale is concerned. He would not have the specters of the Star Herd descend upon the Faire, not when Mensa was here and might be in danger because of it.
"Lady Asra," Nahale calls in a light, affable tone, stepping up with a keen forward cant of his ears and a flick of his short tail. "I am surprised to see you on this side of the Artisan market. I am accustomed to finding you among our many friends. I take that to mean these sirs are known to you, and perhaps I should make their acquaintance also?"
The 'in case there is trouble' is unspoken but heard nonetheless. Nahale Wordcount: 307Quote: Tiam Asra recognizes that her back is well and truly up before the first word is spoken, but she keeps it somewhat contained behind a veneer of civility and some sweetly warning words. The appearance of the stallions from the Court of Jewels is upsetting, it makes her want to herd Mensa ad the other ladies out of sight until she can get security to chase off these encroaching parties.
The larger of the two stallions, with gemstone encrustations and membranous wings, at least does her the courtesy of looking concerned. At her approach and the gentle call out she offers by using a formal title, tension courses through him and his eyes go a little wide in her direction. They're not familiar enough to recognize her by sight, but she vaguely recognizes them. They may not have been formerly introduced in a previous life, but she was around enough to know them. Their appearance here might have been a coincidence but it wasn't really one she was willing to trust too far.
"Good day, Gentlemen," She corrects herself with a bland tone of neutrality. "Though I must admit that I think the who is less important than the why. Those of us with memory of the Courts have little reason to be soothed by the appearance of prominent sons, so far away from their father's power. I am here because I wonder why you are present at this Faire, and if you mean to make a nuisance of yourself."
The appearance of Nahale at her back prompts her to give a gentle smile at the draft talbuk stallion. "Hello, Naha, it is always good to see you. I was just asking these gentlemen how they found their way to the Faire and what their intentions were. I would rather they not remain if their goal is to upset the young ladies." Tiam Asra Wordcount: 312 Quote: Unsurprisingly, Niko winces as he finds himself perilously close to the wrong end of a ladies paws and fangs, feeling himself freeze behind the stable as she confronts him and Cove. Ladies are not to be trifled with, and he knows this. The warning look in this strange lady's eyes drives that point home.
Though she is a stranger to him, Niko finds himself nearly tripping over his own words as he rushes to explain. "It is not our intention to bring the Faire to the attention of the Courts, nor do we wish to encourage those better left behind to follow us here. You might say that we are here for the same reasons you are, to enjoy a normal life, to experience freedom, to be well away from the confines of the Court and the oppressive parties that call it home and live by its codes."
He shifts nervously, glancing at his brother and then back to the lady. "We do not wish to cause trouble, please let me assure you of this. We seek no harm to you and yours."
Before the situation can be successfully defused, another stallion steps up to the group, size and strength clearly on his side. He seems to know the lady in question, speaking to her in a tone that is a velvet rumble of respect and affection. They're friends, even if distant, and that means he will indeed take her side of things go sideways.
'Asra.' Niko repeats mentally trying to place the name back in the Court. 'A Handmaiden, perhaps? So she attended Court social functions?'
"No trouble." He murmurs. "It seems the Lady recognizes us from our past within The Courts, but we were just explaining we have left them behind in search of a new life and herd. We are not in contact with those we left behind, and owe the Leaders there no loyalty. I am Niko, and this is my brother Cove." Nikolai Sani Wordcount: 327 Quote: Cove can feel the world slipping out from beneath his hooves a heartbeat before things actually start to go sideways. First it is just a frisson of awareness, of uncertainty in the ground beneath his hooves... Tension in the air. It all hums through him as if he is a tuning fork for stress, vibrating like a bell struck just so. He chimes like crystal, stones humming with the waves of tension.
At the arrival of the stranger, Niko's reaction has Cove's nerves all but rioting, tension rising as he watches Niko and the Lady face off. The way she speaks leads him to believe she is protective of someone else, likely someone seeking asylum at the Faire... someone with a past among the Courts, which is why she has recognized them and is reacting so strongly.
'So you know us, even if we do not know you...' Cove thinks, shifting nervously behind the stall and flicking his gaze down to the gems and back.
"Perhaps you might advise the Lady that we mean no harm?" Cove ventures in a mild tone, watching Niko and the Lady visibly spike at each other as they exchange polite barbs under the guise of casual greetings. "It would expedite things and relax tensions if you would just speak plainly. We're here because we want no part of the Court of Jewels, or the games that the Lords tend to play. No we did not tell our father or any of the others what we intended to do, we merely made arrangements and ran. As such, you can understand why we'd have nothing to gain in reporting your presence here -should we know who you were- nor the presence of any other such refugees. We would be found out, the same as you." Cove Wordcount: 299
