"Moke." He said as he dug, nose wrinkling slightly, "That's my older brother. He's... not exactly the most motivated person and if he can get by through taking the gems I find then he will. I hid them from him in a spot that he's yet to find and it's made him even less friendly then he used to be." It was good that he couldn't find the gems but bad since it meant having to deal with his complaints about them from time to time. Kaimi's digging continued with him only pausing as he felt the shifting of the mud as Rewi settled across the hole from him. He lifted his head for a moment, looking in the other boy's direction, the dropped his gaze once more, "The gems tend to be scattered about. It's like Uakai is playing a hide and seek game with them or something. Not that I mind since it's by her blessing that I seem to be so good at finding them." She was a wonderful Goddess and the one that was going to help him to get out of his current situation and into a better one. After a time of digging through the thick, sticky mud his hands hit something more solid and he gave a little squeak, "Ah! I think I found it!" He wrapped his hands around the solid piece of rock, planted his feet against the ground, and pushed up out of the cloud of mud that was filling the area. Once he was in clear water again he looked at what he was holding in his hands and gave a little whistle, "Well now, that's a pretty green, isn't it? It's kind of like your eyes!" He said, finding that he rather like the look of this particular crystal. Turning his attention to Rewi he held it out for him to see, "Pretty, huh?" And now that he'd found it the buzzing had died down to only a faint hum that told him there was something else out there but it wasn't nearby. Shifting so that he was treading water he set to inspecting the gem in a very close manner, "It appears to have a slight fracture line through it... if you want we can find something to hit it with and it should break in two. That way you can keep half of it since it's from your fields."

"Moke?" Rewi repeated before Kaimi had a chance to explain. The word didn't mean anything to him, but- Ah, Kaimi's brother. And it sounded like they didn't live on the best of terms. He understood not feeling motivated to do much, but he didn't take from his family. At least, not intentionally. Rewi tried to imagine what it might be like, if any of his elder siblings didn't have his best at heart. It was true that he may not always get along with all of them. Just earlier Lenan had been grouchy at him for not aiding in the harvest.
But he didn't dislike her, and he didn't think she disliked him, not enough to want him to move out and away, anyway. He hoped. Maybe allowing his family to do all the work while he did nothing but piddle was just a less obnoxious version of taking things directly from them, though... Rewi didn't want it to eventually be so strong that they disliked him.
Kaimi too, sounded as though he'd already lost patience with 'unmotivated' people. Rewi decided not to comment upon it.
He leaned forward at Kaimi's exclamation, tipping onto his hands and knees to peer down into the hole even as the other boy's prize was pulled free of the mud. Weird that there really was something down there, he thought for what must have been the dozenth time. Rewi glided free of the muddy plume, following the sound of Kaimi's whistle to the other boy, and drifted nearer to him.
"It is pretty lovely!" He agreed with a nod and a smile. "But we're not really hurting for stuff to trade with, and I don't think it would get much use here. You don't have to break it. Why don't you keep it? And if it reminds you of me, then you can just think of me whenever it's in your hands."

Kaimi gave a smile, "If you're certain." He would likely break it down later because it meant that he would be able to keep a piece of the crystal to remember Rewi by and then trade off the rest of it. Not right away but instead when he was ready to get a place of his own. As such he'd have the full crystal for some time... and hey, maybe he'd get lucky in his digging and find enough crystals that would allow him to keep the green one. After giving the crystal a final look he tucked it into the pouch that was hanging at his side, "Wonderful! It's a good start for the day I think." He would likely track down whatever was causing the light hum in his barbels. It could wait though as he wanted to chat with Rewi for just a little while longer before he headed out on his way. Turning his full attention to the green eyed Menehune he gave him a smile and said, "I thank you for being so kind to me, Rewi, and allowing me to continue with my excavations. You've been a most gracious host. I promise I will get the hole filled in before I head out." Someone as kind as Rewi would most definitely be remembered by Kaimi.

He was certain, so Rewi nodded. Kaimi seemed to have goals and ambition. He went out of his way every day to tend to tasks that Rewi could only imagine being dirty, repetitive, and lonesome so that he may better his lot in life and escape to a happier future. That crystal would fuel those goals in Kaimi's hands. In Rewi's, it would merely sit and be a pretty decoration. If Rewi had taken even just a piece of it, it would be wasteful.
With his treasure found and the day not too old, Rewi expected Kaimi would find his way off to whatever other tasks needed tending- and hadn't Rewi promised someone something not too long ago...? Hm. He couldn't remember now, but he was sure it would come to him.
"It was hardly a kindness," he replied with a dip of his head. "My family may farm the land here, but it is our goddess who allows us to thrive and who plants treasures in our midst. If She led you here, it's hardly my place to stand in the way of your goals." But, with that being said... Rewi scuffed at the edge of the hole Kaimi had retrieved his stone out of, and a clump of mud plopped down into it. With a small, sheepish smile, Rewi scratched the back of his head. "It probably would be nice to leave it mostly how we found it. I'll help you, and it'll be done soon enough."
Hunkering to the swamp floor, Rewi set to smearing some mud layers back over top of the hole. "And if you're ever around in the area again, at least you'll know where to find me."

Giving a smile Kaimi settled down in the mud and helped him to fill in the hole that he'd dug up. Once it was filled in and looked the same as when he'd first arrived he gave a nod of his head, "All done! Thank you for the help in filling in the hole." Pushing off the ground he swam closer to Rewi, as the other said that Kaimi would know where to find him. Giving a laugh he said, "If I am in the are again I will definitely stop by... or if I have some free time." The former was more likely then the latter but he would still try to stop by if he had the chance. He'd hang out with him if Rewi was around and free from his own work. Farming must be hard after all. After giving the other a smile he moved to swim in the direction that he sensed another crystal in. As he didn't that way he turned around, swimming backwards while waving both hands, "It was nice meeting with you, Rewi! It was fun!" He waved for a moment before he turned around and swam off at a quickened pace, heading back to work. It was a lot of fun to get to dig with others and he hoped that he was able to do so again with Rewi one day. Maybe next time he'd actually see if the other guy wanted to actually dig with him. He'd done all the work and left Rewi with nothing to do but watch. Next time he'd invite him to dig if he wanted.
