My step dad rejects any idea that Butkus is part lab. I've heard a vert suggest he may be part black and tan coon hound.

I might sound kinda stupid for saying this.. But why wouldn't the dog have any St. Bernard in him? He's the right color, the hound resemblance could be from the St. Bernard's dopey, sad look, he seems a good natured dog, and he's big. But I'm not an expert so I don't know.

I doubt it. His fur is too short and his body isn't as stout or built like a St. Bernards. But that could be overridden by the other 3573593 types of dogs he is. *laughs*

When I looked at the third picture, and excluded the head and tail from my mind, the first breed that came to mind was Boxer.
I could easily be wrong though. I've concentrated more on terriers than anything else in an attempt to identify at least one of my dog's breeds.

ok i didnt read any of the other posts...(tooo lazy XD) but id say hes part:
basset 5% but inherited the looks but not stocky
bernese mountain dog or greater swiss mountaindog 35% on the account of the fur pattern and the fact he has short fur makes it more likley greater swiss, it would also conclude the large size. bernese would account for the personality cause he acts just like my purebred berner!
Blood hound 40% on account of the dogs brownish coat canceling out the blackish part of being greater swiss up the back.
and 20% labrador on account for the bone structure or the black and tan coon hound POSSIBLY! the last 20 percent is just hard to figure
i could have made a better observation if he had been running or standing up broad side
thats me best for ya!

oooo okies!
I've never seen it written before (and my hearing isn't the best), but that definetly makes a lot more sense - especially geographically speaking. >.<
I tend to get species mixed up anyway - in this case I'd like to blame the burmese python. rofl
Another example: golden labrador and labrador retriever are typically what I say when referring to yellow labs and golden retrievers, respectively. confused
But anyway, that you for the correction. 4laugh
