He shrugged lightly. "You'll get better with practice." He eyed the stand of brush, wondering if it would be worth trying to rustle anything else out. Their noise might have scared the rest of the rabbits into their warrens, but sometimes the silly creatures would freeze and try to blend in. But they were almost done checking the side of the perimeter he'd been going along. It might be better to see if they could hit this spot again. Decisions decisions.
Finally he sighed, rolling his shoulders a little. "Let's move on a bit. We're near the end of my run, so if we don't find anything more interesting we can circle back and see if any more have come out of hiding." He leaned over and picked the dead rabbit up by its ears. No sense leaving it behind if it wasn't bloodied. He could have buried it, but if this storm picked up unexpectedly they might not be able to make it back to this spot for him to retrieve it. With a quick shake of his coat he resumed the loping pace they'd been traveling at before.

Storm bounded after him happily. This must be a huge territory if this was still the boundary line. She wondered if there were rabbits still there. She would be proud when she finally caught one herself.
"So what are the rest of your pack like?" She asked as they ran along and for a serious fume this boy could sure run! Ground just flew by. Then she remembered he had rabbit in his mouth and probably couldn't answer her while they were still running so she reminded herself to remember her question for later.
She could feel the storm looming closer and closer..soon it would break over them.

Thundercloud held back a snort with some difficultly; he might have laughed if their wasn't a rabbit in his mouth. His pack was an assorted crew to be sure. The temperamental, sharp, and sarcastic Steelspark, who tended to be an acquired taste. It was like she got both better and worse the more she knew you. Starblade, Steelspark's daughter. Equally as stubborn and independent, still a bit rashly young. Less of a temper, but in pretty much everything else she was like her mother. Iskiri was perhaps the calmest of the lot, a good hunter and steady. Not much seemed to phase him.
Of course he couldn't really say any of this aloud, but if Storm was truly as serious as she claimed about wanting to join the pack, these were things she'd find out on her own anyway.
As the pair ran the rolling grey clouds drew nearer, the sounds of thunder louder and closer together. It was as they drew near to the end of his run that a particularly loud boom, like a bucket of boulders being dropped, sounded. It was surprising he could hear anything else besides it, but a faint sound did catch his attention. Thunderclouds ears swiveled forward to point at a patch of brush and he stared intently at it.

Storm jumping straight up in the air, her fur fluffed out comically, she grinned as she hit the ground. Then looking at Thundercloud's intent face, she too swiveled her head in that direction. Waggling her eyebrows at him, she stalked forward.
Pawstep to pawstep, for what was a chase but pawsteps, a dance between predator and prey. The storm despite its wild thrashings cleared her mind so inside she was in the calmest place. Pawsteps.
She lunged her lithe body flying through the air uncoiled muscles rejoicing in freedom. Looking down she saw the rabbit, caught and bagged.
Coming to herself she could hardly contain her excitement. "Is that what it is supposed to feel like every time?" She called out to Thundercloud.

Thundercloud actually smiled. Not a big one, but it was still a smile. The girl had potential. Her stalking could use some work, but if what she said about her skills was true then it was just from a lack of practice. She had all the basics she needed, that was for sure.
"Well after you've got it down to an art form the challenge isn't what it used to be," he replied through a mouthful of his own rabbit, words a bit muffled. "It's still a rush to catch big prey though. A lot more risk."
He glanced up at the sky as another growl of thunder rolled by ominously. "This will have to do for now. Come on, you can stay in the den with my pack until the storm passes through. Not that there won't be others following, but this one looks bad." He resecured his hold on the rabbit in his mouth before turning and launching into a ground-eating lope. He tried to watch his speed, though in all honest it was his stamina that allowed him to out-distance others for the most part. Still, he didn't want to leave Storm behind.

Storm smiled broadly and picked up her rabbit before booking it after him, she was still young and spry and madly hyper and storms just sent her nerves to jangling in a most pleasant way.
She had finally caught a rabbit, there was hope for her yet. She was just so impatient to be good at hunting. The rest of her life came so easily but hunting took skill and class and she hoped to attain this sooner rather then later. To be as confident and practiced and efficient as Thundercloud would be amazing. Already she had learned some of what it meant to be a pack member. She hoped that he would let her join during the storm.
And he had smiled at her. That was a gift, and she was starting to feel like she wanted to see that more, he was such a serious fume.

Thundercloud looked out of the mouth of his den as the rain poured steadily down. Most of the pack was inside, curled up on their nest of dried pine needles and leaves, resting until the rain let up enough to go hunting. It had been a couple bad weeks for them to be sure. Just thinking about it caused Thundercloud to worry, unable to rest, he had moved to the den entrance to watch the rain and think.
Some of his thoughts drifted towards the newest member of the pack. Storm had managed to find them even after they had switched dens, and had again requested to join. It was honestly impressive, since he hadn't thought she could track them across their territory. He had been resigned to thinking it was for the best, that their world was too harsh for the energetic female, but she'd still followed them. He'd let her join the pack without any qualms, for it seemed to be what she truly wanted.
His thoughts continued to tumble through his head. Was he a bad Alpha, that they hadn't moved on already when the hunting proved to be off? It hurt a little to see how hungry everyone was and there was nothing he could do about it. It seemed a move was the only solution, but he was unsure where. The pack could not afford a bad decision, not at a time like this...
