To end the plectum debate, the current issue of Bass Player magazine has 10(!) pages of interview from Chris. He stated that he prefers to not use a plectum unless there is a specific, cleaner sound the song requires, then he will use one. I have watched him switch back and forth at a concert before so he does have preferences on what sound it makes.
