Luesa contemplated walking out of the room once or twice. How could he get her so worked up so easily? She had always taken pride in her ability to keep an even head in some of the worst situations. And yet this young man just tweaked her in all the wrong ways. Finally she summed it up that she couldn't stand how ungrateful he sounded. The young woman wanted to call him out for his behavior, tell him that he wasn't the only one who was suffering from their loss and the fact that they had to give up what they used to love, shout that she understood where he was probably more accurately than anyone else - at least out of their small circle of contacts that had come into play since that morning.
That he wasn't alone. She didn't leave because tough as he was she watched him in those next few moments and forced herself to be patient. Audibly tisking when he lit up she did rise and move a little further away, inspecting his room a little closer. How often would she be visiting here again? Luesa seriously doubted that he would actually have her get him dressed or in the shower...at least she was hopeful. Looking back to him she noted that he had turned his back to her. Biting her lip she hoped he wasn't speaking to her. Truth be told it was easier to understand people when she could read their lips along with the murmured sound she did hear.
Even as he spoke again and she caught the jist of what he had said as he turned back to her, she didn't speak. Instead as Luesa watched him sadly fumble around the room she slowly stepped forward and gently placed a hand on his arm just above his elbow. "Silas...You would have to work a lot harder to push me away or get me to tattle on you. I understand the kind of frustration you are going through right now, believe me." Luesa looked into his eyes and searched their emptiness for something she couldn't describe.
"Just...give me a chance. I'll only help you as much as you ask for and if you want me out at any time all you have to do is say 'leave'." Her voice was sincere and her touch gentle, in the hopes that she wasn't overstepping boundaries while still trying to get her point across. She wasn't going to be firm with such a volitile, cunning young man - it would come to bite her in the a**, she was sure.

Silas remained silent, his face twisting with emotion as he struggled to keep control. He gently laid his hand upon her own which now rested upon his shoulder, and shuddered before sliding her hand off of him. He couldn't help but think how soft her hands were. His hair drooped in front of his gray faded eyes, and he sat there in silence for a bit, unable to find the words to release him from such torment. "Please leave..." he said softly, his voice barely registering over a whisper, and was a bit shaken. He didn't move an inch even though a cramp was forming in his calf. He was so tiered of people. They always tried to get close to him, pitying him like some poor wounded animal. Hours of therapy, or more so unspoken words and a therapist trying their damnedest to tear down the stone wall he put around his heart tended to do that to a man. He didn't speak of anything during his sessions, and quickly avoided questions of that horrible night.
It was one thing to go through one of those traumatic experiences in life, but he lived through those experiences, those images, day after day, night after night. It made him resentful and bitter. Silas was known to have an identic memory, which most people would find quite useful, but in his case it shook his very boundaries. You see the thing about having an identic memory was that you remembered damn near everything...every detail...everything...even that dreadful night. His last image before the darkness took him was not a very pleasant one. He shuddered again as he began to finally shift about a bit, reaching his hand out to see if Luesa was still there. Truth be told he didn't really want her to leave. He craved attention of any sort, but his stubborn ways kept him hard to approach, so instead he tried something new.
"Wait...um...I..." he fell silent again. He had no idea what to say. He pursed his lips and bit into it unsure of whether Luesa was still there, or if she even cared to stay after his bout of stupidity. Finally his mental block gave, and he managed to say a few simple words. "I...I don't want to be alone anymore..." The words seemed to cascade freely from his lips, and he almost didn't believe what he had said, and so he looked away, almost wincing at the thought of those words...the truth hurt.

Luesa wasn't sure how she had had expected Silas to react. As she waited for his response she realized how awkward the air between them became ans she considered letting him go right away. It wasn't like she was holding him there but she shouldn't have assumed it was alright to touch him. Feeling her cheeks begin to redden again, she was a little thankful that he was the one to finally move her hand. His touch sent a shiver down her spine and in that moment that they connected skin to skin she could almost sense his emotions through osmosis.
Then he said for her to leave and although it was quiet her eyes had been so trained on his face to try and read him that she couldn't have missed the movement of his lips. Luesa's heart sank; yes she had been serious but at the same time she hadn't expected him to actually say it. Exhaling slowly and as softly as she could she turned away from him and looked to the door. Maybe they would both be gone at this rate - why would the Headmaster want to keep on an aide who couldn't even manage to get her first student to use her?
And yet she still didn't move. Luesa wasn't sure what rooted her there...until he spoke again. Turning back to him she saw that his had had been out to her mere inches from where she moved a step away. His words and demeanor were so completely different from a moment ago that Luesa felt that she was finally seeing the real Silas standing there. Instantly she took his hand and wound her fingers almost protectively within his own and squeezed a bit.
"You won't be." Luesa said comfortingly and for the first time since they met she saw some potential for them to be friends in the future. "That's what I am here for..."

He almost panicked upon realization she was still there. He didn't expect any of this, and he searched his mind for a way out. She overheard him, got a look at his gooey center, and now...now what was he supposed to do. He pulled his hand away from hers, and direly wished he had sight. He just cleared his throat and nervously shoved his hands into his pocket. What was this feeling? Not many things could set Silas off track after the accident, but this...this clearly had him in panic. He had to close up again, no one was allowed close to him. His anger turned to her. Who was she to touch him...comfort him? Now he was stuck here at a disabled school with her...not that it was necessarily a bad thing. He grunted finally slowing his thoughts, and quelling his panic. She saw him for who he was, and now he had to keep her quiet, so he'd play her game for now. He'd play nice and participate, but when the opportunity to leave presents itself, he'd be out of there so quick it'll make their heads spin.
Okay...so to recap the first plan was to show up to the academy, get sent home, and get home schooled, but after an unfortunate blunder on his part, the plan became to play nice and hightail first chance he got. "So uh...I hear they have a pretty awesome library here..." he said, his voice slowly regaining its composure. "Maybe you can take me there...I mean...if you want to," he said nervously. Black magic, he thought just then. His new aide had to be a witch of some sort who cast some wicked spell upon him...I mean...why else would he act this way? Yeah, he knew it was a rather outlandish thought, but still he liked to believe in the supernatural...made life more interesting he thought. Still he wasn't some nutcase who talked about it with other people. He really believed in some of the creatures he had read about, and didn't want his personal beliefs to be ripped to shreds by some snotty a*****e, so he kept quiet about it.
"Also...I haven't learned braille yet...so maybe you could read to me sometime." He felt his cheeks go warm, and knew immediately he was blushing. It was a little embarrassing being blind, and not knowing braille. Perhaps they would teach him here, but for now he was at the whim of a very lovely sounding woman. He had to keep reminding himself that he was on a mission, no friends, no connections, just a simple facade...this is going to be harder than I thought.

She realized that she had made the wrong move as soon as he reacted. When Silas pulled away Luesa did not hesitate to release her own grip and crossed her arms to avoid the urge to do it again. There were those walls again that he obviously put up to avoid making connections...and then the turmoil of emotions she watched swim through him escalated then die off. It had to be wrong to stare at him like she was, when he couldn't see her own reactions to him; it was akin to an invasion of privacy in her eyes and finally she looked away with a new tinge of red on her cheeks from shame.
"Library?" Luesa repeated, hoping she had heard him correctly. She hadn't explored the school yet but she knew they had a large collection library with dual copies of each book both in braille and written English; perhaps to help the aides train and teach the students how to read braille by having the students read along. "S-sure, I'd love to visit there myself. If you are ready we can go now."
He mentioned having not learned braille yet and she smiled at his offer to have her read to him. "Whenever you'd like me too, I would love to read to you. Until you learn braille that is, I wouldn't want to be a crutch for you and it is a wonderful skill to learn." She beamed at her little teasing, hoping to lighten the mood a bit.
Luesa held out her hand to him with her fingers extended and then slowly closed her hand. Did he want to touch her again? Should she assume that he needed to be led? "Um...my arm is out in front of you if you'd like to take it. I am sorry for taking your hand a minute ago, I was...out of line."Waiting for him to make a decision she checked the time on her watch and noticed the intercom bracelet again. She would have to ask the Headmaster where the library was after all.
Pressing the little button on the side of the bracelet she spoke into the little mic. "Headmaster, this is Luesa. Can you inform me of the easiest way to get to the Library from Silas' room?"

Where Luesa found awkwardness Silas found opportunity and quickly reached outward for her outstretched hand, and placing his own hand upon her own, intentionally running his fingers from her fingertips and up to her face. He wanted to know how she looked...and in order for him to do so he had to feel...so he did, he ran his fingertips cautiously from her fingertips, and slowly yet cautiously up her wrist, trailing her arm up to her shoulder, and slowly from her shoulder to her neck. He stopped at her jawline pursing his lips slightly, afraid to finally look upon the woman who had seen him weak.
Finally he brought his hand up above her jawline, and slowly traced the outline of her lips, smiling a bit at the thought of placing his own upon hers...a simple thought from a young male mind, still her lips were rather soft. Tracing his finger upwards, he finally traced her nose, eyes, and brow...she was beautiful...no more than beautiful...magnificent. "Your..." he swallowed hard..."your beautiful..." he chided softly as a bit of hair fluttered in front of his eyes. He didn't bother to move it being that it didn't obstruct his vision so to speak. A lot of things didn't bother him nowadays since he was blind, and yet he constantly found new things to gripe about since he was. It was an ongoing battle nonetheless.
"So tell me...why...why care for those less fortunate? Wait let me guess...you have a close family member with a disablement as myself...or perhaps a lover or friend?" He asked making sure to keep his question open. He didn't wish to upset his new aide, but still he loved teasing her frequently. Her first reaction made him thrive for more. She had a delightful attitude towards him, and it intrigued him all the more. Perhaps they might have become friends if the planned on staying there longer than expected, but no...he reminded himself still that he was on a mission, and would be out within a months time...if not a weeks.

Silas took her hand and Luesa sighed softly, her lips curling at the sides as she relished in this small success. She hadn't pushed him away after all. Then when he didn't stop moving his fingers further up her arm she had to stop herself from being the one to jerk away that time. It was out of reflex that she almost reacted, forgetting that for a blind person their sense of touch partly compensated for their lack of vision; he "saw" what he touched.
It must come natural to him even as a painter to be able to visualize in non-conventional ways. Luesa shuddered only once at the feel of his gentle touch against her neck but allowed him to explore as harmless as she believed it to be. He traced the very essence of her face that was mostly reminiscent of her mother and closed her eyes like her father's when he came to them. They remained closed for a moment until he had finished and an unexpected statement escaped him. Flushing instantly her eyes batted open and she found herself speechless.
For one who had been spoiled by the crowds with their adoration and praise of her talent, why were those two words so much more weighty coming from him? Why did her heart skip a beat at the idea that this gentlemen who couldn't see her thought she was beautiful? "T....thank you Silas..." she murmured softly, unsure of what else to say on that subject at the moment. In the very least she was flattered at his bold statement.
When he pressed on and tried to lighten the mood himself she paused before answering, taking his hand again and after a moment of thought brought his fingers back to brush softly against her cochlear implant. It hummed at the touch but she shook off the discomfort. "Silas, I tried to explain earlier but...I didn't know how. I chose to care for those less fortunate because I've also lost part of myself and I wanted to prove to myself that there is a reason for everything. That I can be that missing piece for another person...even when I am not whole myself..."
Her shaky explanation was cut when there was a warning beep from the intercom bracelet around her wrist before the Headmaster's voice spoke back to answer her question. "Hello Ms. Sparrow. You will take a left from Master Silas' room and head down to the main floor, continuing down the hall and the library is through the large set of double doors at the end of the hallway."
"T-thank you, Headmaster. I appreciate it." She responded flustered, dropping his hand initially to respond. Without another word she took his arm and slowly led him from his room and began to follow the path to the library. Well, now Silas could tease her again and the moment where her heart had ached to hear more sweet words from this stranger would pass and get buried deep in her already broken heart. And yet strangely she kept wondering what he was thinking in the moments of silence that fell between them.
