Arabian Nights
Setting: Er... the desert?
Main Hosts: I dunno... maybe a sultan?
Comments/Critique I'm not too familiar with this theme... I know my school held this as their prom theme once, but that was for only one event and they didn't need different themed rooms.

Classic Lit.
Setting: Basically what everyone else has been saying - Library or book store. Perhaps it could be a collector's private library?
Main Hosts: Librarian, book store employee, or an old collector
Comments/Critique: I love this theme to bits. I know some people aren't too crazy about it though. However, it could be split off into different rooms easily.
Possible rooms:
Romance: (Romeo and Juliet, thought that's a play instead of a book)
Horror (Poe and Lovecraft, maybe? Dracula would be here too. )
Adventure (Something like Gulliver's Travels, or Alice in Wonderland (Though that might be fantasy))
Fantasy (Fairy Tales)
Mystery (Sherlock Holmes)
Science Fiction (20,000 Leagues, or the first version of The War of the Worlds (Not the movies based off of it!!!) maybe. Jules Verne and H.G. Wells would be good authors to base this room off of if you don't want to use those stories.)

the Undead
Setting: Post-Apocalyptic. Crumbling architecture galore.
Main Hosts: No clue.
Comments/Critique: Honestly, this would make for a single room better.

Steampunk
Setting:
Main Hosts:
Comments/Critiques: I kind of like Steampunk, but I'm not THAT into it. Like I said for undead, this would probably be fit for a single room rather than the whole ball.

Dark Carnival
Setting: Fairgrounds
Main Hosts: The ringmaster(s)
Comments/Critiques: I think that maybe a "dark" carnival would drive some people off. A regular carnival would be a more appealing theme.
Possible Rooms:
Main Tent
Freak Show
Acrobats
Animal Acts

Myths and Legends
Setting: I dunno...
Main Hosts: Some god...
Comments/Critiques: Somebody said we had a Greek myth theme once, so perhaps we could leave that pantheon out?

Zodiac
Setting: The stars.
Main Hosts: I'm not so sure. It would either be some Zodiac, or another character.
Comments/Critiques: We would definately need to pair up the Zodiac characters to host a room.

Sea
Setting: Underwater
Main Hosts: The kng and queen of the sea.
Comments/Critiques: Not all characters have to be mermaids. You could just as easily make your own sea-dwelling race.

Time Periods
Setting: A science lab
Main Hosts: Scientists working on a time machine.
Comments/Critiques: A mix of both modern eras (Like the 50's or 60's) and older ones (Like the Victorian era) would probably be best.

Video Games
Setting: An arcade
Main Hosts: The owner and employees of the arcade.
Comments/Critiques: I think this theme would draw in a lot of guests! We;d obviously need to have knock-offs of video games, though.

Arabian Nights
Setting: A secret city that lies underneath a corrupt Sultan's palace.
Main Hosts: Prince of thieves and the Sultan's son.
Comments/Critique: A desert theme would be awesome in my opinion! I think it's quite flexible.

Plot suggestion: The Sultan could be possessed by some ancient artifact/genie/Jafar [<- that's just an example] and while he/she/it is in control, crazy stuff has been happening on the land above. Sandstorms, eternal night, decrease in water supply, you name it. It's up to the guests to lift the curse, but before they can do that they need to fix the land first.

Classic Lit.
Setting:
Main Hosts:
Comments/Critique:

the Undead
Setting:
Main Hosts:
Comments/Critique: If it's just zombies, I'm not so sure that a lot of people would be interested in joining. If you include vampires, seeing as they're also undead, it would probably attract more people, but vampires are a bit overdone. Or maybe that's just me.

Steampunk
Setting: A moving castle that's powered by steam; it can travel on land, air, and sea.
Main Hosts: Inventors of the castle.
Comments/Critiques: We could come up with a lot of ideas for this theme!

Dark Carnival
Setting:
Main Hosts:
Comments/Critiques: Not everyone would want a dark, slightly horror-type theme. Guests could pull off a romantic air if they really tried, but yeah.

Myths and Legends
Setting:
Main Hosts:
Comments/Critiques:

Zodiac
Setting:
Main Hosts:
Comments/Critiques:

Sea
Setting: The capital kingdom of the sea.
Main Hosts: King and queen of the capital kingdom.
Comments/Critiques: This is a neat idea too, but that's just because I love mermaids.

Plot suggestion at 2 in the morning: The kingdoms of the seven seas are each missing their sacred item. [Items could have been eaten by a sea monster, someone in another kingdom might have traded it for a spell from a sea witch, rogue fish-folk, pirates, blablabla. Secondary hosts will drop hints as to what could have happened to the items.] Guests have to find a way to retrieve the missing items and restore the bond between the kingdoms.

Arabian Nights
Setting: A desert?
Main Hosts:A desert faring story-teller
Comments/CritiqueCostume-wise, this might be hard to pull off for some, due to the fact that the awesome items related to this theme are millions of gold

Classic Lit.
Setting:An antique library where the stories pull you in-literally
Main Hosts:A librarian and an author or student looking for inspiration
Comments/Critique:I think this would be fun, as it could truly allow for some creative rp

the Undead
Setting:a graveyard
Main Hosts:undead people?
Comments/Critique:I think this is sort of too Halloween-ish to really make the ball seem that exciting to any newcomers

Steampunk
Setting:An old lab in a mansion, filled with trinkets and old, working robots
Main Hosts:Humanoid robots/dolls, inventors
Comments/Critiques:This would be so fun, and would be great for activities, like the give-away, etc.

Dark Carnival
Setting:A Carnival
Main Hosts:Ring Leader, other assorted Carnies
Comments/Critiques:This would be unique and could make for some interesting rooms, like ones based on each act in the circus

Myths and Legends
Setting:Olympus, other places of legend
Main Hosts:Legendary figures, like Hercules, etc.
Comments/Critiques:This would allow for a great variety of rooms

Zodiac
Setting:The party in the story of the Chinese Zodiac
Main Hosts:Members of the Zodiac (i.e. rat, boar, etc.-we should also include a cat ^.^)
Comments/Critiques:This would make for awesome rp and activities like guessing games and whatnot

Sea
Setting:
Main Hosts:
Comments/Critiques:

Time Periods
Setting:A Magical Museum
Main Hosts:Curator, Famous figures from the past
Comments/Critiques:We could have all sorts of themes within a theme with this, and we could have multiple stories going on that could be different, yet still tie into one another (yeah, I'm a history nerd XD)

Video Games
Setting:an arcade?
Main Hosts:gamers, gaming figures
Comments/Critiques: this would make for some awesome cosplay

Arabian Nights

Comments/Critique

Classic Lit.
Setting: A library... Not just any library, a really classy one. Like... The library in the Beast's manor in Beauty and the Beast, except classier
Main Hosts: It would really depend on the plot
Comments/Critique: It's an incredibly versatile theme. So many things can occur... And imagine how related it would be seeing at one time or another, someone will have read one or two of the books used. Imagine... A 1984 room! Now that would be truly messed up stuff right there xD

the Undead
Setting:
Main Hosts:
Comments/Critique: It's a wee bit overused in Barton Town right now... By the time the ball would come, the rpers may be sick of this idea.

Steampunk
Setting:
Main Hosts:
Comments/Critiques: I honestly do not know what Steampunk is.

Dark Carnival
Setting: Haunted fair grounds.
Main Hosts: The ring master, of course! And if there is more than one, then they can be Ring Masters that are exact opposites, one of them can be the antagonist while the other is the protagonist.

Arabian Nights
Setting:
Main Hosts:
Comments/Critique I don't know a lot about this idea so I can't really give a fair assessment I believe.

Classic Lit.
Setting: A Library
Main Hosts: Authors from across time placed in disguise as librarians, clerks, and guards
Comments/Critique: I think this could be done nicely with a push to really work on the foundation for what we do the ball for, telling great stories. Books like Sherlock Holmes, Treasure Island, 20, 000 leagues under the sea, Sleeping Beauty (the original), The Hobbit , Dracula, Frankenstein, the list goes on. I think you would need to set a time line limit so we do not go into modern writers, because that would be for another year.

the Undead
Setting: A Necropolis (city of the dead)
Main Hosts: The prime hosts of different districts in the city, which would be realms of their own in a way. Not all cultures see the dead as evil what not. We can mix ideas from the common vampires and what not, to Soul Reapers, to Egyptian, and others.
Comments/Critique:

Steampunk
Setting: Think Bioshock Infinite, take a time in history we know well and twist it to have a steampunk idea with flying cities. Think future but you can't use electricty to make things.
Main Hosts: Captains of ships (flying cities), Lords and Ladies of lands, presidents and rulers of the time with a steampunk twist.
Comments/Critiques: This would need some fleshing out with people who understand the genre being the leaders so they can answer questions and debate the finer points.

Dark Carnival
Setting:
Main Hosts:
Comments/Critiques: Eh, too much Left 4 Dead for me on this one. I would just want to run around and shot everything lol.

Video Games
Setting: So I'm going out on a limb here and showing my age a bit, but there was a series on TV long ago that put a kid in a world that had all the video game worlds put into one. The main character had the old Nintendo controller on his belt and carried the Duck Hunter blaster. Now for the young pups, remember the Playstation commercial with all the characters gathered up in the bar to talk about what they did and how the "player" always came in to save the day? So we make a world of various video game world come together, almost Kingdom Heart style. Get us a ruler, and the guests are players brought in from the world to help fix something gone wrong. They could assume the roles of their style of game.
Main Hosts: These would be the Prime characters from the game worlds. Master Chief, Kratos, Cloud, Mario, Sonic, Solid Snake, Ghost (call of duty), Darth Revan, Starkiller, Chell (Portal), Shepard, Anders, Connor (assassins creed 3), the list goes on.
Comments/Critiques: I think we could have fun with this one if we did it right and made sure to really think about the plot and how best to bring in the guests. Who wouldn't want to get in and help out both Master Chief and Commander Shepard together take on something epic?

you dont know HOW HARD it was to choose! it was a long inner struggle between arabian nights, myths and legends, zodiac, and video games. eventually, however, i went with my gamer instinct and picked video games. i'm gonna give my opinions for some of those options i was deciding against though and give a small critique, explaining what i'd like to see.
Myths and Legends
i'd like to see some diversity between cultures. definitely japanese myths and tales. as a gamer and anime fan, i can always appreciate the japanese culture and always love when its implemented. i know a few things myself from studying the ps2/wii game Okami and its sequel Okamiden, so i would always have something to contribute.
Video Games
one word: LEGENDOFZELDA!
...what? no spaces, so its technically one word! :p

Ok, since I can at least do it for this one...

Zodiac
Setting: The Celestial Expanse, a palace constructed of galaxy light and stardust.
Main Hosts: Western Zodiac, much better conflict there
Comments/Critiques: IF THIS IS OUR THEME, I WANT PLOT COMMITTEE!!!

Arabian Nights
Setting: In the desert; The Sultan’s palace
Main Hosts: The Sultan and Scheherazade
Comments/Critique: Not very familiar with the stories except Aladdin (which according to Wikipedia isn’t part of the original 1001 Nights), however, it is based off of a frame story (Scheherazade makes up stories to keep the sultan from executing her) and that should make it easier
Ideas for Plot: Sultan invites people over for party, Scheherazade asks the guests for help. Needs help with the stories (got her ideas/papers mixed up)?
Ideas for Rooms: The Forty Thieves’ hideout, Sinbad’s Ship, etc.

*Classic Lit.
Setting: A library/An old man’s house with his private collection of classics
Main Hosts: Librarians/The old man and his wife
Comments/Critique: Appeals to a wide range of people. Very versatile, (it could have an Arabian Nights themed room)
Ideas for Plot: Library is holding a special event, they discovered this ancient devise that can ‘open’ books (so you can jump right into them and be transported into the book), however, the story must be completed in order to go back/Old man throws a ‘I’ve finally finished my collection party’? Idk.
Ideas for Rooms: Horror-(Dracula), Mystery-(Sherlock Holmes), Sci-Fi-(The Time Machine?, idk), Adventure-(perfect place to put Arabian Nights or King Arthur), Romance-(the only thing that comes to mind is Romeo and Juliet), Historical?-(Huck Finn/Tom Sawyer), etc.

the Undead
Setting: Underworld
Main Hosts: ? High ranking demons?
Comments/Critique: not a big fan of this one, simply because I am not interested in this kind of stuff . . . it might turn people away . . . but I’ll make a plot anyways
Ideas for Plot: War between different types of undead (zombies, vampires, ghouls, demons, etc.)
Ideas for Rooms: Each side has their own room (zombies, vampires, ghouls, demons, etc.)

Steampunk
Setting: Victorian-era/ Wild West?
Main Hosts: ?
Comments/Critiques: Not very familiar with it, according to Wikipedia there are different types of Steampunk (Industrial Revolution, Wild West, etc.)
Ideas for Plot: ?
Ideas for Rooms: Have a room for the different types of Steampunk? (Industrial Revolution, Wild West, Fantasy, etc.)

Dark Carnival
Setting: The carnival just outside of town
Main Hosts: Ringleader and assistant
Comments/Critiques: Does dark mean scary or strange? (Needs clarification)
Ideas for Plot: The Dark Carnival appears one day, people come to it, ringleader has new act for people with old devise, something goes wrong (devise breaks into pieces), carnival ends up stuck in time?, ringleader asks guests to help find pieces (one in each tent?)
Ideas for Rooms: Different tents (animals, clowns (*shivers*), high-flying act, stunts (motorcycle in metal ball thing), etc.)

Myths and Legends
Setting: The Annual Myth and Legend Convention? In a library?
Main Hosts: “The Keeper of Legends” and his assistant (librarian)?
Comments/Critiques: Since Greek (the most famous) has already been done, we’d really have to dig deep into other cultures (Irish, Japanese, African, South American, etc.)
Ideas for Plot: The Annual Myth and Legend Convention is being held, however, a strange magic released from a newly discovered ancient book, causes the legends to mix, thus the guests must help right the legends to how they are supposed to be.
Ideas for Rooms: Myths/legends from different cultures (Irish, Japanese, African, South American, etc.)

Zodiac
Setting: In a nebula (where stars are born)
Main Hosts: Constellations
Comments/Critiques: Not very familiar with it and not fond of it. Which Zodiac? Latin (Aries, Pieces, Leo, etc.), Chinese (Dog, Rat, Ox, Dragon, etc) or both?
Ideas for Plot: Constellations invite everyone to the nebula to see a new star form, but a conflict between the zodiacs interrupts it, constellations ask guests to help resolve conflict between zodiacs. Conflict between different zodiacs (Leo, Aries, Libra OR Dog, Dragon, Ox)?, Battle between Latin and Chinese Zodiacs?
Ideas for Rooms: For each zodiac or one for Latin, one for Chinese and one or two common areas

Sea
Setting: On a cruise ship/ Under the Sea
Main Hosts: Ship captain and navigator
Comments/Critiques:
Ideas for Plot: Everyone is invited to a cruise, gets attacked by pirates, (guests can choose whether they got captured by pirates, abandoned ship (stranded island), or were helped by mermaids/men) Have to defeat the pirates?
Ideas for Rooms: Pirate Ship, Deserted Island, Underwater Mer-Kingdom

Time Periods
Setting: Antique shop (Time Traveler lives in apartment above)
Main Hosts: The Time Traveler and Antique Shop Owner
Comments/Critiques: I like Mademoiselle Alvinette’s idea. Appeals to a wide variety of people, but possibly has been done before
Ideas for Plot: (I like Mademoiselle Alvinette’s idea) Antique shop with different objects that (as the time traveler has found out) can whisk you away to the time period they are from, however, (as the time traveler has observed) the objects are becoming unstable and make it harder to go to and from the time in question. The Time Traveler enlists the help of the guests to help restore order.
Ideas for Rooms: Classical (Romans/Greeks), Middle Ages, Industrial Revolution/Victorian, Late Modern era (about 1910-1960), Future

*Video Games
Setting: A gaming convention
Main Hosts: Convention hosts
Comments/Critiques: Appeals to a wide variety of people, must make spin-offs to avoid copyright, but is a fun idea!
Ideas for Plot: I liked phedre_whiteraven’s idea. A gaming convention where the hosts are testing out a new technology that can put you “into” the game, however, the game must be completed in order to leave.
Ideas for Rooms: Based off of the types of videogames: (Fantasy/Action/RPG (OH THE IRONY!) (Fable, Skyrim, Final Fantasy, Zelda etc.), Sci-Fi/Action/RPG (Tron, Star Wars, etc.), War/Shooters (Call of Duty, Halo, etc.), Horror/Shooters (Left 4 Dead, etc.), platform? (might be tricky) (Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario, etc.)

Arabian Nights
Setting: Thieves Hideout, The Palace
Main Hosts: Genie/Djinn and The King of Thieves
Comments/Critique I guess it'd be the typical struggles between the lower class and the richer upper class of society but with magic thrown into the mix. Making rooms might pose a challenge, and I think a good deal of further research would be needed.

Classic Lit.
Setting: Different story settings, The Library
Main Hosts: The Librarian and a villian acting as the main baddie [could be an actual story villian such as Captain Hook or a made up character]
Comments/Critique: I was thinking perhaps the main story could be something like the Pagemaster. In order to return home those attending the Ball would need to make their way through different stories. Each room could be a different story, and various hosts could play villians or what hve you.

the Undead
Setting: Desolate town in the middle of nowhere
Main Hosts: Army General and Survivors...or Zombie Horde?
Comments/Critique: I guess besides zombies the main conflict would be the way in which to deal with the threat. I imagine those who side with the military would aim to simply erradicate the zombies and help the civilians as much as possible. The survivors an unstopping force not really taking time or care in their dealings....Or vice versa? I'm struggling to think of a way to keep this organized.

Steampunk
Setting: Air [airships, floating city, etc.] and The Below [ the land below with industry and lower classed dwellings]
Main Hosts: The Queen [an airship pirate captain] and The Inventor [essentially the mayor of The Below. His knowledge is unparraled.]
Comments/Critiques: I'm not all that familair with the Steampunk genre. So I'm kind of taking a stab in the dark on this one...
The City Above is a floating gem of sorts, a city where those of high society dwell while those of lower means toil in The Below. The air above is not without its problems however as pirates look to make easy plunder from passing cargo ships. Essentially a pirate and science[y] story set in a steampunk world.

Dark Carnival
Setting: The Tent and the Caravan
Main Hosts: The Ring Leader and The Fortune Teller
Comments/Critiques: A carnival composed of collected souls, set in a shadowy dark forest. Each performer has their own reasons for doing what they do. For instance, the fire eater might have either commited a good deal of crimes and was burned at the stake or simply wishes to become more enlightened. Things of that nature. While avoiding being lured into the fanciful and dark world guests might find it in their interest to find out why and what keeps the performers in this circus. The Fortune Teller would aid guests while The Ring LEader would act upon as a detterent.

Myths and Legends
Setting: The Temple
Main Hosts: The Strange Sisters [Hags of Fate], and The Unicorn
Comments/Critiques: While exploring the vast Temple with twisting corridors like a labrynth and doors to open and explore guests will come across various beings of myth and legend. Either to be aided out or trapped within...
Kind of have nothing for this one. Sorry.

Zodiac
Setting: The Stars [ a gathering temple place of celestial making]
Main Hosts: The Dragon [for the Chinese] and Leo [for Western]
Comments/Critiques: A gathering of the zodiacs has been arranged only to discover its a trap of sorts. The Cat and Ophiuchus are plotting to cause some chaos for being forgotten and left out of their respective place within the zodiac. Personality changes and the like will begin to occur in the zdiac hosts and Gaians must find a way to resolve the conflict.
Now whether the Hosts should resemble constalliations or the embdoiment of their sign is still debatable for me...

Sea
Setting: The Seas, Sailing vessels.
Main Hosts: Fish/mermaids, and Pirates/Sea Captains...?
Comments/Critiques: Being as there are 7 seas, we could have seven rooms? Another idea as to how to divide up rooms has to deal with the different characters one could play. For instance if there are mermaids we could make something like Atlantis. For Pirates a main ship...If we needed the pirates and mermaids to converge on a single location for one reason or another we could make something like The Cove [ a rumored cave full of treasure, but its sacred to merfolk]. If we go with the original stated 7 seas idea we could have the hosts play a character that embodies something that resmbles that region. This would take some research....

Time Periods
Setting: The Hall of Time, and various settings based on rooms
Main Hosts: Father Time and The Time Traveller
Comments/Critiques: Basically time keeps at its normal pace, but when a curious scientist makes a blunder and begins messing with it things go all out of whack. It'll be Gaians responsibilty to ensure that certain events happen or don't happen and to stop the Time Traveller from mucking things up.
Now...we could either focus on sterotypical happenings from certain chunks of years [the 70s] and embody an aspect of that as hosts...OR we could take a wider chunk and designate a specific event [WWII era, the death of Hitler]...This would be interesting but difficult to do.
All in all: Back to The Future meets historical importance.

Video Games
Setting: The Arcade, and various vide game genre worlds
Main Hosts: Mega [ an overseer of the video game realms] and The Byte [ a villian bent on harnessing the life energy of gamers alike...]...yeah I got nothing.
Comments/Critiques: With Disney's newest Pixar film Wreck it Ralph coming out this might be kind of popular. The whole idea of that movie being a "villian" tires of his repitive role and well...blah blah blah. We could simply just sterotype basic games and roll with that so we don't get considered stealing the idea of an upcoming movie. Racing/vigilante games, SciFi stuff...
Its basically just taking a video game making a semi original plot and characters, throwing it in a blender and viola, presto- Your premise.
While I am excited for Wreck it Rallph, this idea as Video Games for the Annual Ball...not so much.

Let's get down to business, to defeat... The Huns.

Arabian Nights
Setting: The Sultan's and/or Grand Maharaja's Palace!
Main Hosts: The Sultan and/or Maharaja, The Prince and Princess, The Grand Vizier as well as The High Chief General...
Comments/Critique This could be a great ball if we could think up a concept that didn't scream 'Aladdin'... We could use some of the concepts from 'One Thousand and One Nights' (ie: Adventures of Sinbad, Ali Baba and the Fourty Thieves, Aladdin and The Wonderful Lamp) that would be just amazing I think! It would work really well too!

Classic Lit.
Setting: A Library
Main Hosts: The Authors and Illustrators, perhaps?
Comments/Critique: Really not sure how this could be turned into a ball. Maybe a grand gala hosted by the authors and their illustrators, possibly run by a small group of overall editors/publishers.... But idk what the plot would be or why anyone would be there?

the Undead
Setting: Nopeville
Main Hosts: //screaming forever;;
Comments/Critique: I don't like horror pls no cat_gonk

Steampunk
Setting: The Scientific Convention For The Bright Inventors Of Tomorrow
Main Hosts: The brightest and most innovative minds of the Century presiding!
Comments/Critiques: This, like the Dark Carnival theme could be REALLY great to work with! Again, only critique is that I can't see how this could be turned into a 'ball', more of a 'convention' I think.

Dark Carnival
Setting: An old, seemingly abandoned Theater, surrounded by derelict carnival rides and game booths... >:3
Main Hosts: The Ringmaster and Carnivalmaster, as well as some of the main acts.
Comments/Critiques: THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS GOSH I COULD JUST ROLL IN THIS AND BE HAPPY FOREVER OMG. Not a plot right now but the possibilities are literally endless and pretty much everything is just dripping with delicious arsenic-laced caramel and wrapped in poisonous cotton candy.

Myths and Legends
Setting: Honestly? Not a clue.
Main Hosts: Important figures from Mythology and Legends
Comments/Critiques: I have no ideas for this except for maybe a Legends vs Mythology type of deal - but it'd be more of an argument than a ball so I'm not even sure. It seems like it would be fun, but I'm at a loss!

Zodiac
Setting: Grand Celestial Temple and Palace
Main Hosts: Chinese and Eastern Zodiacs
Comments/Critiques: I have no idea what the struggle could be, perhaps just a token type of celebration held by the Chinese and Eastern Zodiacs in order to quell some sort of ancient feud between the two. Maybe they are trying to negotiate the possible applicants to be Zodiacs?

Sea
Setting: We what the land folks loves to cook, under the sea we off the hook! We got no troubles, life is the bubbles - Under the sea
Main Hosts: Mermaids of all shapes, types, and sizes! :O
Comments/Critiques: Maybe Neptune is hosting a grand ball down in his palace to raise funds to clean up the pollution in the oceans. Sort of an environmentally friendly fundraiser masquarade ball. It would work well for the ball I think.

Time Periods
Setting: A Train Station would be cool! ((plot idea below))
Main Hosts: A committee of Time Traveling Royalty from different periods!
Comments/Critiques: A bit of a plot I guess? Trains have been around for a really long time... But what most people don't know, is that they have been in the universe a lot longer! Trains actually were the first way that Time-geneers could travel between time periods! Through the ages trains have seemingly 'evolved' with the time. However the real truth is, that Time-geneers, funded by Royalty and Govenrments of the future alike have actually had to reverse engineer their super futuristic trains in order to keep with the technology of the time! The problem that needs to be solved? Perhaps the Time-geneers and Royal Time Travelers could be experiencing technical troubles with all of their trains! Someone, likely a very cunning thief or nefarious, Moriarty-like individual, has stolen the special components that make the trains able to make the journey through time! While some trains still are in working order, they have decided to host a convention and ball - all of the greatest minds gathered in order to recreate or brainstorm a way to save their trains and continue traveling across time! The only thing I could say for critique-wise is that it might be a bit hard to exposition to the public, as well as the convention-type dealie of it. I think a lot of people would prefer a Steampunk Timetravel, or even a Dr Who type of deal. However I have no idea how to meld those into a Ball event that would work well. :1c

Video Games
Setting: Urrhhhhggghh.... A Colosseum/Arena??? Not a clue man.
Main Hosts: ???
Comments/Critiques: This is just a really bad idea overall, I think. I mean, you could do the whole 'this room is x video game genre etc, but in the end I just can't think up a plot that would fit any part of it except for the obvious - All games vs each other in a Mortal Kombat esque type deal. Actually the only theme I can think of for this would literally BE Mortal Kombat. A bunch of elite fighters get picked to do battle in a series of elimination based rounds yadda yadda ancient evil deity trying to steal the souls of warriors and make himself all powerful, gets beaten up by a small group of warriors from different places and the realms are saved.
It's a great idea, and I'm sure the masses would love it a lot, but it's not something that makes me go 'WOW THAT COULD BE AWESOME!!'

Arabian Nights
Setting: Sultan's palace, or a ship taking you from your homeland to an exotic location.
Main Hosts: I suppose the sultan or his servants? Or the captain of the ship, if it goes that way.
Comments/Critique: Honestly the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is Aladdin or The Thief of Baghdad. For rooms there could be of course the palace, a thief/pirate ship (like thief of baghdad, they could even rob the palace), maybe like a hookah bar with belly dancers. . . umm. . . maybe a bustling market? Oh and of course a hidden cave with treasure. Flying carpets and all that jazz~

Classic Lit.
Setting: Library/book store (maybe the library of an old mansion, where they have fallen out of use?)
Main Hosts: Librarians, or if it is like after hours/in the old mansion, maybe statues come to life?
Comments/Critique: I picked thisssss! It gives me an excuse to read some old books to get into character. There are too many options to list, people could step into any book, and it would already be a new world. If it is a library, you could be directed to the books by a librarian, or if it is after hours, maybe you are somehow drawn to the library (or mansion) for some reason, and statues can direct you. (in my head, I keep screaming "jane austen")

the Undead
Setting: Um... a graveyard or mausoleum?
Main Hosts: Funeral directors or grave diggers?
Comments/Critique: I'm not sure about this one, maybe if it was just a room & other horror characters were involved. Honestly though, I'm afraid this would just become twilight stuff.

Steampunk
Setting: Oh man. . . I have no idea. An airship?
Main Hosts: Umm captains of the airship?
Comments/Critiques: Well I think steampunk as a style is nice looking, but I know next to nothing about it & what the rooms could be about.

Dark Carnival
Setting: Well, a dark carnival! It has to be in the middle of no where, maybe somewhere perceived mysterious, like Carpathian Mountains area, or somewhere in eastern Europe.
Main Hosts: Ring master!
Comments/Critiques: I love circus/carnival as a theme! I guess the rooms will have to be related to the different jobs in the circus (like tight rope walker, lion tamer, freak show, concession stands, etc.) The characters would all be very interesting, entertaining & hopefully a bit devilish. I hate clowns though, and will steer clear of them. Here is a new movie about an evil carnival that could be good inspiration.

Myths and Legends
Setting: Library
Main Hosts: Librarians
Comments/Critiques: This feels kind of like the classic lit. one. I think a library would be good if we went with myths from various cultures/places. However if we picks them from a certain place, it should be somewhere relevant to those myths.

Zodiac
Setting: Some magical palace in outer space?
Main Hosts: Stars as people (like the weirdos who run the cash shop)
Comments/Critiques: This sounds neat, I'm just not sure what all could be used for rooms. I suppose the rooms could be based on the personalities of people under that sign, or maybe something more in depth related to the things the zodiacs were named after. There could be some person who causes signs to go into retrograde or whatever, to cause trouble in the rooms.

Sea
Setting: The sea? Maybe a castle (I keep thinking little mermaid. . .)
Main Hosts: Merpeople!
Comments/Critiques: I have no idea, merpeople or things related to gods (I know this was a recent theme though). Oh I'm going to add the lost city of atlantis to this idea too.

Time Periods
Setting: . . .The tardis? ;D Some sort of time machine, or some weird place where all times meet (think sailor pluto now)
Main Hosts: The doctor ;D Or a time keeper, yeah that.
Comments/Critiques: I like this one a lot too, it reminds me again of classic lit. & has sooo many options. England alone has so many time periods that are interesting. Japan could have samarai, there could be egyptians, romans, ancient greeks, chinese could be fighting mongolians (mulan time), austria during the time of mozart (this is also the time of marie antoinette in france). I could go on and on really.

Video Games
Setting: Some non-existent place inside a video game console.
Main Hosts: Some weird tour guide like people, or hosts that are somehow related to the video console.
Comments/Critiques: Isn't there a new pixar cartoon kind of like this? There certainly would be a lot of choices for rooms. This could easily work, it is just not my first choice.

* Top three choices bolded and organized by size, largest being the first choice, smallest being my last choice...obviously my suggestions of main stories and characters would have to be changed or altered so they didn't step on any copyright toes...

Arabian Nights
Setting: Of course a desert oasis...a fortress in the desert. Complete with a market, back room black market items, exotic animals and people.
Main Hosts: Scheherezade of course and some handsome young heroic arabian prince....or an ingenius thief character...or an evil sultan overlord.
Comments/Critique It would be fascinating, there are many different stories that we could cover...maybe too many? We would have to do a TON of research for this. I have no ideas for plot unless we stick to the original story where she must escape death and her husband by telling him stories. *shrugs* We could have a whole bunch of capers where the main characters are having to trick someone and escape death? We could have it be the search for an ancient relic?

Classic Lit.
Setting: A giant library
Main Hosts: no clue, two really famous classic lit peeps like Heathcliff and Jane Eyre or something...
Comments/Critique: This could be fun, I can see it being very similar to the Jane Eyre Affair books where the main character is a Book Cop and has to keep people from going back in time and changing the original stories. That would be really complicated though. The good thing about that was the the lit. characters both played their roles as characters AND knew they were in a book so they could do things slightly out of character as well, such as fall in love with each other. This one seems like it could be hard to sell but if we get some really dynamic main characters that everyone loves, it could draw people in. We might have to try and pick everyone's favorite classic stories for the individual rooms OR we could go with different classic lit. genres.

the Undead
Setting: a mausoleum?
Main Hosts: Depends, I am not too into this idea...but maybe well know lords and ladies of death like Hades, Anubis, etc.
Comments/Critique: I don't much care for the undead...we could do something like a zombie movie but zombies wouldn't be all that fun to play and I don't want to spend the entire ball running away from things. (sorry if I seem ignorant about the themes, I just got back from DragonCON and when I went to vote for the theme, it told me I didn't have permission to view that thread so I have no clue what was written there about each theme.)

Steampunk
Setting: Old world London of course...or a airship!! biggrin
Main Hosts: Airship pirates! biggrin Or maybe a daring Airship pirate and an investigator chasing after him/her.
Comments/Critiques: This could be fun but I think it might be a little hard to separate into rooms...not sure of a plot but we could have maybe an airship race or war or bring in normal characters and steampunkify them! biggrin Like steampunk batman or steampunk mcgyver or something...

Dark Carnival
Setting: A tent? A boardwalk?
Main Hosts: scary clowns? (I am already shuddering)
Comments/Critiques: Again, hard to plot? Classic thrillers/slasher films? What are the guests doing? Are they trying to go through the entire carnivale to escape with their lives?

Myths and Legends
Setting: A mystical island or underground fortress?
Main Hosts: Two main myth characters like Cú Chulainn and Arthur (two big hero types) Or maybe a female so Guinevere or Isis?
Comments/Critiques: It depends on which myths and legends we want to focus on...This could be cool because each room could be a different myth and legend setting, so we have Norse, Native American, Hindu, Chinese, Egyptian, Greek, Mayan, etc..but I have no clue what the plot would be? To work together to heal a world rift? We are being invaded and we must work together to beat the invaders? *dramatic voice* The legends have been locked away into their own legend and they must escape to save the world! Don't know really, could be too busy.

Zodiac
Setting: The stars or some kind of scale? (if western) then tarot cards?
Main Hosts: Depends are the type of zodiac, it could be the main representation of each sign, like Ares, or Capricorn or the tarot character like The Fool or Death....
Comments/Critiques: This would be pretty busy and hard to pin down with so many different versions and a lot of research would have to be done to have everyone on the same page. I guess it depends on whether or not we pick the western or eastern zodiac and which would be more simple to portray?

Sea
Setting: ships, floating city or underwater city.
Main Hosts: depends on the setting (again, didn't see the original idea so I don't know) It could be a famous ship commander, or pirates...underwater city could have a king and queen.
Comments/Critiques: This could be fascinating, if set underwater we could have all sorts of creatures...whales, dolphins, sharks...giant squid...plus mythical ones like mermaids, the kraken...This one is kinda nebulous and I can't think of an immediate plot that would work. Could be the lost city of Atlantis trying to prevent a catastrophe from hitting gaia and sinking the rest of the world.

Time Periods
Setting: Someone's garage with a home made time machine
Main Hosts: Are we thinking Dr. Who or Back to the Future? Either way you need a dapper young man to travel time and fix things and maybe an unwilling lady passenger to go along with the ride OR have an arch nemesis also traveling through time trying to defeat our hero.
Comments/Critiques: I guess we could break the rooms up by time period...the guests could go from time period to time period trying to fix what the bad guy messed up so that history isn't changed? I like this because it could have something for everyone...go back in time, go forward in time...can encompass victorian steampunkish with sci-fi future...

Video Games
Setting: I guess a computer generated world like tron...but it would be cool if could could open a door into other video game worlds like Lara Croft, Street Fighter, Doom, Mass Effect.... so the main setting could be basically a room with electronic controls that will send the guest into any video game but the controls got broken? Or maybe the guests put on VR masks and get trapped in game?
Main Hosts: The main guys from something like Tron or a similar big video game type character.
Comments/Critiques: Could be interesting, it would be easy to break this into to rooms but I have no idea what a main plot or individual plots would be. Would be easy to develop characters for this and it would definitely encompass a wide range of video games genres so that there is something for everyone! For example, we could have an Animal Crossing type room or Pokemonesque or a horror room for the dark minded ;D. *shrugs* As for plots maybe there is a rogue character going through and destroying or taking over other games and each game needs to band together to stop him/her? OR in order to make it through an "ordeal" the guests have to go through each room and defeat/win the game? Or going with the first suggestion, they get trapped inside and must defeat/win to escape the game.
