Are you afraid of the dark?

You shouldn't be.

Hanson let out a short laugh, "Ah, too bad. I guess I'll have to try and dazzle one less used to the light." he said softly. Talking with Alex, you never really knew what direction she'd go with things. Often sarcastic you had a hard time picking out what was sarcastic and what she actually meant. It didn't bother Hanson though. She at least never beat around bushes regarding matters.

At the mention of her sleeping fine Hanson nodded slightly at her before she had moved onto getting out of their cells. "That sounds fine with me," he said a small smile playing across his features, "You know.. if you spent less time thinking of ways to cause trouble and more time staying out of it, you'd be able to get out of your cell just as easily as me." He stopped leaning against his wall and brushed his arms down his t-shirt, straightning it out. He reached forward cautiously, finding the door and then leaned forward slightly, placing his other hand against it as well. His face grew serious for a moment. "We've been left alone for awhile now," he started, hesitating. "You don't think we'll have to go see the doctor do you?" He tapped his fingers nervously on the door. He'd much rather stay in his cell than have to talk to a doctor. He'd never liked them all that much anyways.

Gavan

Gavan nodded as Aidran talked, understanding his unwillingness to leave his position. When he mentioned talking with the inmates again he perked up again, "Oh drat. Speaking of that I need to finish here and start going around checking on them. Knowing Alex and Hanson, they'll both be up by now." he said hurriedly. Seeing Aidrian beckoning Ashe over to him and Ashe closing her book and walking over to them and taking her seat, he stepped to the side and nodded at Ashe, noting the weights on her arms and legs. As she asked how they were he nodded again and replied, "Quite well. However I must take my leave and check on the other inmates." Nodding for a third and final time he headed towards the door, quickly eating and finishing as he moved. Wiping his hand on a napkin, he dumped the rest and headed out of the cafeteria.

Heading towards Alex's and Hanson's cells he paused every now and then to check on inmates and see that they were behaving. Gavan knew that they'd both be hungry, it WAS after all, mid-afternoon. Turning a corner and coming to the hall that housed their cells, he once again noted that Alex's cell was like a beacon of light. As he approached their cell's he saw that Hanson was leaning against his cell door, hands upon it. Alex was similarily at the front of her cell. It seemed that they were talking with each other, Hanson staring at nothing in particular, and Alex leaning forward in her cell. "Good afternoon!" Gavan said, coming towards both cells. "Get enough sleep you two? I'd have to imagine you're both probably pretty hungry right about now."

>>>SCENE UNLOCKED>>>ASHE]
In the cafeteria nearby, Ashe can see a schedule for simple checkup appointments for the staff. Looking closely, she can see that the only one exempt from the analysis is, strangely enough, Aidrian.

As Aidrian opened a notebook, ready to talk to the inmate, his beeper went off. The message on the other end read a garbled "Tl gl gsv oryizib". Eloquent. He typed back a simple "?" and shut his beeper off again, turning back to Ashe.

>>>END SCENE>>>

>>>SCENE UNLOCKED>>>HANSON]
Near the cells, a guard is talking on his Phonex. "...no, honey. I can't come tonight. Aidrian has been really high strung lately, and two people have been fired in the last week... No. Yeah. They've also shut off the other wing, which I don't get. No one is even allowed in except for him..."

His voice fades out. Close inspection of the directions around the cell blocks reveals a few signs, indicating the cell groups: 24-1-14-1-4-21. Huh.
>>>END SCENE>>>

"I'm well enough," Aidrian responded to Ashe's question, flipping through pages until he had a good one. Though most people opted to use the recording device on the Phonex for these sorts of things, he preferred regular pen and paper. Nothing quite like the old fashioned stuff, hm? Waving Gavan away--not rudely, of course--he turned his eyes to Ashe and sighed softly, bracing himself.

"Tell me about what your experience in here is like thus far. Is there anything I can do to make things more comfortable, less annoying, more organized?"

At Hanson's words, Alex's lips curled against her wishes. Oh, she hated that line of thinking, that submission was preferable. No. She was hardly that sort of a person. She could not be content being obedient and quiet in a cage.

"You should know by now that I can't do that," She snapped. Her anger was quickly provoked, but as soon as she was angered, her emotions would calm. "I have so much time in here. There is little to no reward for obedience here--it isn't like we'll ever be freed. So what's the use? I'll vent my anger on them." Alex breathed out, and calmed herself. Done. She was okay now.

"I don't think it's a doctor week," She answered slowly, thinking. "I can't remember, though--"

And oh, speak of the devil. Gavan, one of the guards, came down the corridor and tried to start some small talk. Alex grinned and put a hand out through the bars, stroking the relative darkness outside her cell like a pet. Those that knew her power could spot the tendrils of shadow coming to her hands like cats, curling against her fingers. But it was obvious that it was all she could do. "Sure. Hungry. What's the food today?" Her lips were parted in a malicious smile--there was no saying what she was thinking now.

She raised her eyebrows at the questions and tapped the book in thought. She looked around, noting the schedule of checkup appointments. Odd... She looked back at Aidrian when his beeper went off. Odd message...Either way, she kept silent until he put the beeper away and looked back at her.

She scratched her cheek, "Well...I've been better...But I've no reason to complain too much..." She held her wrist out, showing the weight on it, "I could ask to lighten the weights a bit. It's almost impossible to move with them as it is..." She tapped the book again, "Could you find some more books? I think I've read all of them at least five times already..."

She shrugged, "Other then that...Food's good, I'm not always followed around by a guard, I'm not banned from the library...Oh! A new pen and notebook. The last one's near dead and full."

She got up, "Well, if that's all I shall be in the library if you want me." She nodded and made her way slowly back to the library. There she found a comfortable chair and sat down and opened the book again. Finally, silence.

Hanson perked up slightly when he heard a soft distant voice of a guard talking on the phone. Two people fired? Shutting of a wing? He briefly wondered what that was about as he turned his attention back to Alex, wondering if she had heard it too. He returned his thoughts to Alex just as she snapped at him. Flinching back slightly he lowered his head slightly as he listened to her mini rant. He knew the anger wasn't exactly aimed at him, but to the institute at large. He also knew from experience that she didn't stay angry for long. He raised his head again when he heard what she said about not being doctor week, hopeful.

Hanson dropped his hands from the bars as he heard footsteps, followed by a voice. Aah, so today's guard on duty was Gavan, he thought to himself as he heard Gavan ask them how they slept. He then gave a mental sigh as he heard Alex talk to him. He knew by the tone of voice that she was in one of her moods. "Hello," He said softly, knowing Gavan would here him, "I was just hoping someone would come by.." He crossed his arms, fingers tapping on his bicep as he wondered if Alex would remember that she actually wanted out today. "I was wondering if I could be let out today to wander. Hopefully with Alex as my guide." He add, almost as an after thought, head tilting to the side slightly.

Doctor Kharo

"No you blasted wretch! The fourth sequence cannot be without cytosine because how would the third have succeeded with only marginal amounts of guanine?" Came an irritated snarl from Head of Research at the facility, who was talking into the comm bead within his collar. "Exactly! It cannot, but in the case of Patient #501, no guanine was found, instead there was large amounts of cytidime, a mixture of both cytosine and pyrimidine." He said, picking up a high sugar drink and dropping it in his pocket, ignoring the sales assistant on the till.

"What I am saying is what if the subject didn't have a 'standard' genome? You forget, we do not deal with standard or normal here. Reassess the base count and map it again. Goodbye." Malaki finished, opening the drink and taking a long gulp of it, while taking a seat next to the Head of Security..

Gavan

Gavan stopped at Alex's and Hanson's cell, in the middle of the hallway. He glanced from side to side as his eye's then fastened on Alex, hand stuck out through the bars, shadow curling its way up around it. He glanced at the hand and then settled on her face. "Nothing good if you don't stop playing with shadow's." He said calmly, used to Alex and her shadows. Although, it was always a tad bit unnerving the way she used that smile and stared at you as if you were food.

He paused briefly as he heard Hanson speak up from behind him. Looking over his shoulder, Gavan saw that Hanson had crossed his arms and was idly tapping his fingers. He also noted the way he was 'looking' at him. That was also a trifle unnerving. Everyone here knew that Hanson was blind. But the way he stared at you, even if it wasn't AT you, the way he tilted his head slightly as if listening to your every movement.

Gavan shook his head slightly to clear it. Hearing Hanson's question about being let out today with Alex as his guide put a smile on his face. "Now, now. I'm sure you'd do fine on your own. After all you've done it before." He said, glancing back at Alex. "I guess what it boils down to is if Alex will be able to keep herself in check and stay with you, WITHOUT, causing any trouble." He put stress on the word without, ensuring that Alex knew he meant no funny business. Gavan paused adding, "That is, if she wants to be able to come out of her cell again."

Alex rolled her eyes, a shuddering groan escaping her lips. Dear God. "This is the most I can do. Are you serious? If I had a plan, I would be much less annoying than I am now. Plus, Hanson was just espousing the virtues of being a goody-two-shoes to me a moment ago. I'm sure that if I wanted to cause hell, it wouldn't be around him. He could overpower me." That was true. Out of all the things she was, physically intimidating was not one of them.

Leaning against the wall, she stared Gavan down blankly, her lips set and eyebrow raised. "Plus, most of my plans revolve around me breaking my shackles first. I can't really do that with what I have, much less what is out in the base." She had never quite succeeded on the breaking of her chains. There was one time where her powers managed to override the previous shackles, but the moment she had been overpowered and shoved back in a cell, Aidrian had amped the power on them up to the maximum allowed.

Cracking her fingers together, Alex snarled, "If you want me to give my word on not being trouble today, then I won't be anything more than an annoyance. Per usual."

As you enter the library, a slight scraping sounds against a nearby wall. There seems to be no source.

>>>SCENE END>>>

The things Ashe asked for were reasonable. Aidrian nodded, writing down a simple list--more books, develop lighter weights on her, and a new pen and notebook. He saw no reason to deny her the notebook, at least--she was subjected to checks a couple times a week on her notebook already, but nothing bad had ever shown up. He was going to ask more, but she was up and heading to the library again. Oh... okay then.

More books, then? He opened his Phonex and tried to pull up the library inventory, only to remember that he didn't have that on his portable phone. Damnit. Tucking the pen-like device into his pocket, Aidrian reviewed the notes he made, mentally formulating some lighter device for her... and a slightly-annoyed Doctor took a seat next to him.

There was little he could really think to say to the Doctor. He gave a slight nod, and a cursory,
"Good day." Aidrian wasn't great with conversation, but there was little doubt in his mind that the Doctor probably had something to say to him, at least.

Scritch scrtich

There was a scraping noise coming from the wall behind her. She looked over her shoulder, not amused. But there was no one there.

"...?"

She got up and walked up to the wall and looked it up and down. "...Odd...Never heard that before..." She put a hand on the wall, trying to feel if there was something behind it.

Doctor Kharo

Looking across to Aidrian, Kharo nodded in return and scoffed slightly at the man's greeting. "I know you aren't stupid, and you can clearly see I am not having a good day, as you put it." He replied, although the sentence was said with an irritated tone, none was aimed for the staff member. "These days, you cannot leave any one else to do your job before they, for some reason, think they understand it better than you. And they don't." He finished, shaking his head and ignoring the voice of one of his aides over the comm link.

"I am somewhat agitated by these blundering fools, so forgive my tone. I understand you are under considerable duress to keep Miss Alexandra from another breakout." Doctor Kharo said, scratching the back of his neck where freshly healed skin was settling in. From even a quick look at the Head of Security, Malaki could tell that he was tired, probably having been up for nights on end. He was one of the most committed people working at this damned facility, and one of the best of them too. There was a very clinical and ruthless side to Aidrian that Kharo knew of, but he hid it well under layers of discipline and logical analysis. "Aidrian." The Doctor said, standing up and placing a hand on his shoulder. "Go take an hours rest, walk around the gardens or just sleep for a while. No argument, doctor's orders." He finished in a tone that brooked no debate on the subject.

With that, Doctor Malaki Kharo strode calmly back to his 'project', eager to find what the map of Subject #501's genome looked like.

Gavan

"Well now that that's been taken care of!" Gavan said cheerfully, not hesitating in the face of her annoyance. "I suppose a little stroll around the place couldn't hurt you two." He moved to Hanson's cell and unlocked the cell, sliding the door open with a bang. "Keep an eye on her," He said, a grin on his face that he knew Hanson couldn't see.

Moving across the hall too Alex's cell he gave her a warning look and unlocked her cell, sliding open the door and stepping away. "That's it for today. Head on over to the cafeteria and eat. I need to continue my rounds so I'll leave you both together." Gavan said, waving them forward and moved away from them, knowing the people watching the moniters would keep an eye on them for now. "No more annoyances that the usually please," he called over his shoulder with a laugh as he walked away.

Hanson rolled his eye's at Alex's comment of overpowering her. "Yeah, only if I could get a hold of you." he said waving a hand infront of his face, "Hard to catch someone you can't see." He shook his head at the way Gavan was talking to Alex, knowing it was just going to aggravate her. He stepped further away from the door when he heard Gavan unlocking it, jumping a bit as it slammed open. A frown crossed Hanson's face at the comment Gavan said to him.

Once he heard Gavan move away from his cell and unlock Alex's, he cautiously took a few steps forward, hand trailing against the wall. Once he stepped outside of his cell he immediately sent his sense's out, almost letting out a sigh of relief when he felt Gavan's mind. Hanson wouldn't use his echolocation until further from his cell. He briefly took note of Gavan walking away as he turned his attention to Alex, "Ready for some food?" he asked with a wry grin.
