Ever since i was young i just listen to whatever is on the radio and USE to listen to rap. But then rap got annoying and boring so i got sick of it until i heard Linkin Park. That was my first band i have heard from until i went on to more bands like avenge sevenfold, then to cannibal corpse, amon amarth, here comes the kraken, etc. And now i still do but i just listen to some metal that i have taste in as long it's not satanic.:/ The End. smile

Getting into metal was just a natural addition to other stuff. I was already into punk thanks to my dad playing a lot of protopunk, 77 era stuff and post punk, then he gave me a bunch of good classic rock band comps to check out and from there I kinda started drifting. I went through a brief nu metal phase, but then again most guys my age did anyway. As I got older and started to be able to get hold of more stuff I got more into thrash, death metal, then prog, stoner, black metal... then I got into drugs and that helped a lot. The stuff I listen to now reflects about 10 years or so of generally uninterrupted listening.

Well like most peeps my age I grew up listening to all the classics Sabbath, Maiden, ect... then moved on to early 90 gangsta rap.. then at some point I think around 1999 rap lost the anger, and then i was introduced to bands like Slayer and Iced Earth, and that was it... Hooked for life...

Was raised on Hard rock and Nu-Metal like System of a Down, Deftones, or Slipknot, then started getting into Metalcore and Thrash Metal and then started listening to more and more heavier stuff.

My father was my role model and he would listen to a lot of Godsmack, Limp Bizkit, Staind, etc.. Gave me a taste for any kind of rock music. As I got older I began hanging out with my grandpa who introduced me to bands like Slipknot and Rammstein. Now I listen to a lot of different kinds of rock, even crunkcore. I mostly stick to metal though.

Successor Of Fate
Feeling like we should post some stories that sort of describe ourselves as metal heads. There may be some of you that grew up on metal, but for other people like myself, we didn't start until years later. So tell us, how and when did you get into metal, who's your favorite band, and where does your taste lie? Make it as long or as short as you want, but I want to read some stories!

I was raised on many different genre's of music, but metal always had seemed to fit my lifestyle. I really started getting into metal when I was about 13 years old and (being an idiot teenager) thought my life was a bunch of sh**. But metal never failed my fast pace, ever changing lifestyle. Some of my favorite bands have to be Disturbed, All That Remains, and As I Lay Dying. I boast that yes I am a very avid metal head and knows some of his history. The best time to start getting into metal is anytime just ask someone you know what a good metal band is and there are no bad ones so just start listening and enjoy.

I started listening to RHCP when I was about 14 and from there I experimented on. I still am. I love trying out new music. After RHCP I got to Muse, Epica, Nirvana, Metallica. From there I went on and after a few years ended up with my my current collection.
Some bands I got by rather random, like after reading a book I tried Megadeth, because it was mentioned in it and now it still is one of my favorite bands. Usually I just randomly buy an album [if not too expensive] of a band whom I've been listening several songs of for a while.
So yeah, and ofc, I share my dad's taste in that. He likes the rock music as well, although he's more into classic rock and all that.

It was a pretty average start for me. First I liked rock, then I started getting into heavier music. All thanks to the radio. Went from Godsmack and Disturbed to Metallica and Megadeth and eventually into Cradle of Filth and finally I just dove right in and now I listen to more metal than anything

I was introduced to metal by a random metalhead in highschool. I noticed he was listening to something catcy, walked up to him asked what he was listening to. it was Iced earth, kicked off from there wink

When I was 13 I never really listen to music cause there was only stuff like like pop and rap (at this point i didn't even know there was metal) and I hated rap and all the other stuff and then one day my older brother came home from school and he was playing Slipknot and I instantly fell in love with it and it's only grew since then, I love death core and heavy stuff like that.

It started with KISS and AC/DC as a kid, and in elementary school I found Metallica, Rob Zombie, and Linkin Park. I was sure metal was something I would never get into, especially when I was showed Behemoth, Bloodbath, and Rammstein by friends. But I just revisited it again and again and from that point on it was just a constant. Nowadays I've listened to and like every single kind of metal out there, minus glam/hair.

Unlike a lot of people, it seems, I didn't get into it via classic rock/Metallica/etc. I loved Evanescence when I first heard them played on the radio (a station that plays generic, mainstream, chart music, which is all my mum listens to) when I was about 12 years old. I loved it and got kinda obsessed. So I tried searching around on the internet looking for recomendations of bands which were similar/people thought I might like. So the first metal band I got really into was Lacuna Coil, and I got their album Comalies and loved it. I love everything they've done and still class them as one of my favourite bands ever. I also got into Within Temtpation and then Nightwish (I hated them at first but the more I listened, the more I liked). Then I got into all sorts of other stuff. smile
