"I hope that turns out to be true..." Tetroneaque muttered to himself in response to Sherasti's little pep talk. It was nice to think of everyone here looking out for each other, but so far the only ones that seemed to personify that sentiment were Hoshi, Janlu, and Sherasti herself. At least that was how Tetro saw the situation. Everyone else seemed to have their own agenda that they were trying to further, such as increasing their own power and Tetro didn't trust them much at all. No, right now he only considered Janlu and Hoshi to be actual friends... though maybe Sherasti could be added to that short list as well.
"Would you like to join us? Another perspective on these things could only help in my opinion. I mean if you don't mind the extra company..." Tetroneaque said a bit shyly, still stroking that one tail in his grasp and absently nuzzling against Janlu's hand on his head.

Sherasti couldn't help but let out a small giggle at how adorable Tetro was seeming, what with him acting shy and everything. She nodded and approached the group.
"Of course I would be happy to join and do what I can to help. I don't mind extra company at all...it was more of a pleasant surprise to hear you two than anything. What is it I can help shed some light on?"
She stood next to them both, waiting to see what was said next.

Janlu didn't mind the extra company at all, the more the merrier! "For now, I was just helping Tetro understand some of the body language he might encounter," she held back a chuckle, "he was practicing a smile when you showed up..." Seeing Sher just stand there, "have a seat," she offered, "there's plenty of room,"she smiled.

"Yes, I was practicing a smile. It doesn't really come naturally to my kind as bearing one's teeth is usually taken as an aggressive gesture though I know it's a friendly gesture to all of you. It's hard for me to understand many of the gestures and facial expressions as my kind relied more on the whole body to convey emotions and intents. As Janlu pointed out though, most species in this galaxy lack tails or ears like my own and thus couldn't rely on such things to get their points across, leaving only facial expressions as a form of non-verbal communication." Tetroneaque had gone into 'lecture mode' as he tended to do when nervous, over analyzing everything.

"Ah, I see. Well...facial expressions are actually a good way to determine things for most races in most circumstances. Of course, there are some who try to put on a mask of emotionlessness, keeping their face as blank as possible, or even people who show one emotion on their face when they actually feel something else. Personally, I put stock more in looking at what their eyes show. If you know what signs to look for in their eyes, you can tell what they're really feeling. As I once heard, 'The eyes are the gateway to one's soul. While the face might lie, the eyes always reveal the truth.'"
As she spoke, she nodded thanks to Janlu and took a seat next to the two of them. Sherasti then paused a moment in her speaking, seeing about looking into and at Tetro's eyes before continuing.
"Granted...this doesn't work on those who don't have eyes or who hide their eyes. For that it's best to trust your best judgement. Looking in yours as an example, Tetro, you seem a bit nervous...I can tell mainly because your eyes aren't really seeming to focus in one spot for very long, which is one indicator of nervousness. You're also trying to avoid direct eye contact."
She smiled a little, and held it so that Tetro could look into her eyes if he wished. Her own eyes appeared to have a more soft appearance, giving the image of compassion and caring if he were to look.
"That's just how I determine what people are feeling. It works every time for me, provided I can get a good enough look at their eyes."

Tetroneaque nodded as he listened to Sherasti speak about looking into someone's eyes to help determine what they were feeling. That had been true enough with his own race, as slight widening of the eyes and such could hold a multitude of subtle meanings depending on how quickly it was done and such. He looked up at Sherasti after she said he looked nervous, which was true enough. He just wasn't very comfortable around new people till he got to know them a little bit. When he looked he saw her smiling, and her eyes seemed to hold the emotion the smile was meant to convey.
Tetroneaque nodded again in understanding. The eyes did seem to hold a great deal of information. "That does help some. Thank you." His own eyes seemed to express his gratitude as he relaxed a little bit, even if he was still stroking his own tail.

Janlu nodded in agreement, eyes certainly could tell a story more truthful than the entirety of the face, but it was only half truths. "There are plenty who could still succeed in deceiving you. Those who want to, are experts, and even eyes couldn't betray their owner at that point. However, in combination with other clues in movement and other factors, you can piece together how truthful. If you can sense the sincerity in someone, this is another big help and eyes could be a part of seeing if the owner is sincere, but, again, it doesn't tell the full story..." She felt she was straying off topic now, a topic that was more complex and yet somehow related, but even Tetro might know something in this case...just not how to perceive it from these strange creatures he had never before seen. "You may be surprised to see just how many similarities tehre are despite the lack of tail," she informed him with a slight chuckle.

"This is all very helpful... but I feel that we may be straying a little. I still need to understand the basics of body language in this new place, like hand signs and other social gestures. Among my race we tend to make a short bowing motion to those we are grateful toward or respect, though there are differences in meaning depending on how long it's held and how deep it is as well." He said that even while Janlu's hand remained on his head ruffling the fur there. Really he should have explained what that gesture meant among his kind, as he was starting to think it might not have the same meaning here... but he was a little afraid to say so, especially now that there was someone else here.
"This would all be so much simpler if you all had tails too." He added almost as an afterthought, finally releasing the tail he was holding so it could join it's two brothers in swaying back and forth idly behind him.

Sherasti nodded in agreement with what Janlu said, and giggled a little when Tetro mentioned it would be easier if everyone had tails.
"I suppose it would be at that...tail positioning, when it comes to races that have it, can be a dead giveaway sometimes. Granted, my race has head-tails...but they aren't really used to demonstrate emotions, convey messages, or anything."
Sherasti would actually place her hand under her left head-tail in the front and lift it slightly, so as to show Tetro what she was talking about before continuing.
"Body language in general...well, there's quite a bit to go over, really. Typical greetings though, can take place in a variety of ways, such as a hand shake, a hug, or just a simple nod, depending on how close you are to the person and the message you want to convey. The hand shake is probably the most diverse of those though, as different messages can be sent out based on firmness of grip, the length of the handshake, and even which hand is used, if not even both. So it's probably the one that's closest to bowing from where you come from, if I were to hazard a guess."

Janlu listened carefully to the direction of the conversation, a hesitant smile at Tetro's mention of also having a tail. It would be easier, but she wasn't ready to reveal that side of herself just yet. It was nice to finally have more people to talk to. Though Janlu always enjoyed and even looked forward to conversations with Malice, having a variety of others to converse with made her feel that much less confined. She sat in silence at this point, however, listening to the others awaiting a moment to jump in with her input and looming over various subjects in her head, all interconnected.

Tetroneaque tilted his head to one side as he listened. He had to agree that handshakes certainly seemed very similar to his own race's bow. This was all very helpful information and he was glad to have people willing to help him learn these things and not think of him as being silly. "Thank you, this is all very helpful. I appreciate all of this more than you both know." His tails were wagging again, showing the truth of his words.

Sherasti smiled and nodded. She was glad she was giving some measure of help to Tetro. She noted that his tails were wagging, and figured it meant he was probably being sincere...at least that's what she figured and hoped.
"You're very welcome, Tetro...you can ask me about anything any time, and I will answer it as best as possible. I'm sure there are many others here who would help you as well, such as how Janlu was doing when you both entered the gardens. I'm positive you can go to any of them as well about anything."
She gave a smile to Janlu then, having noted that she was being somewhat quiet for the moment. That was certainly an opening to jump in, if that was what she was waiting on. Provided of course she wanted to join in. Sherasti didn't want either of them to end up feeling left out of the conversation.

Janlu felt the conversation growing stale, unfortunate that she had nothing more to add at this point. She struggled to come up with a new subject to make up for the on coming silence. "s...so what have you been up to Sher? I see your leg is doing much better," she tried to initiate new conversation, hoping to go back to the other if Tetro had any unanswered questions later. For now, Janlu was only concerned with keeping a conversation going. It didn't matter to her what the subject was so long as an awkward silence could be avoided. Anyone could easily redirect the conversation, there was plenty of room to evolve it.

Tetroneaque's ears perked up at the mention of Sherasti's leg. He'd almost forgotten all about that! How insensitive they must think him, and after all the help they'd given him and kindness they'd shown him. "Oh, yes... I wanted to ask if your leg was giving you any trouble! Sorry for not asking sooner. If I had the supplies and machines here I would have whipped up a batch of high quality medical nano-machines to patch you up the same day we met." His ears drooped a bit, both for not having asked about her condition sooner and the fact that he was pretty much powerless in being able to have helped more. If only he had a lab and equipment of his own he really could start contributing more to all these kind souls who'd taken him in.

Sherasti gave a warm smile to them both for their concern and asking about her leg.
"Oh, yes...my leg has recovered quite nicely. I haven't been up to much yet, mainly just exploring around my new home, really. I'll probably start looking into some training soon enough...and Tetro, it's quite all right. You gave your own special, furry brand of help in helping me keep warm, and I appreciate that."
She couldn't help but give Tetro a small scratch between the ears, if he would let her...he was just too adorable, really, and she just didn't like seeing him feel bad.
"So what all are you two planning on doing today?"
