Ace sighed and put down his menu. He didn't like to talk about it, but he took the opportunity for her to get to know him. "I have no memories from before I was knighted against my will. I was treated like dirt and used for whatever the queen wanted me too." He looked away. "I had absolutely no control. I feared everyday. Killed everyday. I killed a lot of people and had no sense of remorse until i was locked away at night. I can't remember my parent's, If i had any brothers or sisters, pets. All i had were these horrible memories of what the queen did to me and made me do. I was sent to find Mad one day and he broke the spell that the queen had on me. I have only had my freedom for three years."

Ace reached across the table and put his hand on top of Mels. "No, you weren't. It's okay to be what ever you are. The way they reacted, that was wrong." He looked into her eyes. "All my life I thought it was okay to be controlled and that death was the only way to solve problems. All my life I thought affection was when the hypnosis hurt less for a few minutes. So, I'm going to tell you what i learned. . . I was wrong. Just like you were wrong about being an elf. You see, sometime 'wrong' Is a good thing. Now i know the truth is Its okay to be free and you solve problems with a plan. I know now that affection is hard to find, but it isn't pain. . . It satisfaction. It's something that's given to you and brings you warmth and clarity and even happiness. Affection isn't something that's given to you like a whip or makes you sad enough to run away with pretty much nothing because that, that's called the wraith of rejection. I wouldn't wish it on anyone and especially not someone as perfect as you. I haven't the slightest clue that those people saw, but I sure as hell don't see it. I see a powerful, determined, strong-hearted young woman who has a beauty that could destroy hell on it's own. That's what i see and it what everyone else should too because that's whats there."

Ace shook his head and smiled at her. "I brought you here you you didn't have to be alone. As for fighting, You can learn. Swung my sword like a pro earlier. Tell me when you punched that guy, did you close your eye and breath before you did so?" he remembered his hand and moved it back.

Ace waved his hand. "Well there you go. That's why it didn't hurt the guy. Now, tell me what you did before you swung my sword at the dummy?"

"And you were quite successful with that." Ace said smoothly. Phil came back with Ace's drink. "Amaretto for the young hero." He set the glass in front of Ace. "Do you two know what you want to order? Hm? You two lover doves." He said clasping his hand together. "You know love gives a man weakness." he pointed his pen at Mel.

Phil's nodded his head nervously. "Yeah. Uh uh." He moved a little closer to Ace. "And what would you like, Ace." He said keeping his eyes in Mel like she was going to eat him for the meal. "Uh, I'll talked the chicken Alfredo and" He downed the drink. "Some coke please. Mel, did you still want that spaghetti? "

Ace glared at Phil. It was a cold unforgiving glared that looked as if it could kill. "Phil, do us both a favor and just leave us along. I came here to hangout with my girl- er, date. Not to have to be rude to her." Phil's eyes turned all sensitive and giddy again. "Awwwww, you love her!" Ace's eyes went wide. "What! No! Go get us our food!" Phil smiled and clapped his hands happily. "You can't fool these eyes! You almost called her your girlfriend!" he said moving towards the kitchen. "I did not!" Ace yelled after him. His face was a little pink, but it was hard to tell whether he was angry or shy. He growled a little under his breath. "Sorry about him."
