Shanna66 Akari_32 Shanna66 Akari_32 Shanna66 Akari_32 I just wish they weren't 8 bucks a pop >.< no one said fish keeping was cheap xd im holding off on getting a gourami in hopes of seeing these new guys at a store somewhere near me. i want them LOL I know, but to pay $50 for a school of fish that don't even have personality is ridiculous! emo .....But thats not to say I wont do it eventually XD PetSmart, PetCo and PetLand all have them here in Florida. LFSs that see GloFish should also be getting them. at least they arent as prcey as the glow mice. you pay loads of money or a male mouse thats already a year old xp OMG have you seen the glowy CATS?? Those are exciting lol no i havent, time to google! OMG THEY'RE SO CREEPY!!!!

I find glofish unethical, not because of the fish being genetically modified from jellyfish and coral DNA, but because of the way they're marketted. For one, they put a trademark on the "species" which is still Danio rerio or Gymnocorymbus ternetzi depending on danio or tetra, and for two, they pump out little 1-5 gallon unheated bowls for the "glofish" to live a sorrowful 2 week lifespan in. Then they have 1 10 gallon tank marketed for them, which IMO given activity levels of danios as a whole is too small.
Danio rerio is a very quick moving fish that needs room to jolt. They can easily clear a 4 foot tank with 15x tank volume power heads within a second. This ability to jolt is what keeps them peaceful. People often keep danios in small tanks and have issues with them being aggressive toward other fish, because they have no room to sprint and use its activity levels on other things. it's be like keeping an active dog in a studio apartment and never taking it outside for exercise. a 10 gallon tank is one thing, but a 2 gallon bowl is another.

They do great in sub tropical and tropical river setups, 55 gallons would be perfect for a nice school of them with some power heads. While these fish are not river fish in the wild, in captivity they're really rheophilic, because the current gives them some really nice exercise which they can't get easily in captivity. Naturally they're sub tropical, and like the temperature at 70-76 as opposed to 74-80, but they do just as well in tropical temps ime.
