Al wasn't too sure about the cart that passed by them. He felt like he wasn't going to fit inside...Another qualm to being a suit of armor, though he supposed he was used to it by now. He nodded and followed Ed inside, hoping he wasn't too heavy and a burden to the driver, who had been kind enough to let them have a ride - and, it seemed, one other passenger. He noticed the blond girl as he climbed in and sat down as best he could, taking up quite a bit of space. He felt kind of apologetic for that and tried to make himself as small as possible...Though that was kind of a challenge, to say the least. The cart's weight shifted as he tried to make room for the other two. Al hoped it would be sturdy enough to support him.

He noticed the blond girl staring at him. Alphonse was pretty much used to those kinds of looks, being a conspicuous suit of armor and all, though it still made him a bit uncomfortable. He shifted a little more, hoping that none of the hay made its way into his joints. Al lowered his gaze for a bit after the wagon began moving again with a lurch. There was a bit of an awkward pause as they moved along in the wagon.

Then he looked up as the woman spoke, introducing herself as Ridge. She didn't seem intimidated by his form, as most people did when first meeting him. In fact, she sounded downright cheerful, almost as if meeting walking suits of armor was normal. She seemed friendly enough, though Al didn't completely let his guard down, of course. He reached out and shook her hand when she offered it, briefly and gently.

"Nice to meet you too. I'm Al, and this is my brother Ed," he replied. When she asked why there were headed toward East City, however, Al wasn't sure what to say. He didn't think it was a good idea to let a stranger know they were on official business...He didn't reply that one, leaving Ed to answer the question.

Edward had hoped that the girl they were riding with would keep her mouth shut the whole way there but it looked like that was too much to ask for. Like most girls they seemed to enjoy talking even to complete strangers. when Al, like usual spoke up telling her their names he sat up and spat out the hay in his mouth,"Al!! don't just go around saying our names like that!" he yelled at the younger brother. Oh well, the damage was done, but that was all Ridge was getting out of the duo. He glared at the blond who seemed perfectly happy. Too happy."As to what we are doing Ridge, it is none of your concern. We have our business and you have yours" he said propping himself against the wooden wall of the cart and crossed his arms. His intense golden eyes locked on their riding mate.

Considering everything he and his brother have endured the past few years, Edward had developed a rather intense distrust of strangers. Alphonse on the other hand was very good at making completely random friends. Sometimes Ed felt he had to butt in and stop any unnecessary conversations before too much was leaked. Not many people took to state alchemist's kindly and he didn't feel like getting into an argument at that moment. After getting his fill of glaring at the girl he turned his attention to Al.
"Try and relax Al, there's enough room in here for you, besides, that horse carries enough hay that weighs twice as much as you probably every day." he laughed. Sometimes he found it funny how worried his brother could be. Definitely a gentle giant while in this form.

Once again his eyes moved back to the looming clouds. They were moving faster and he could even smell the rain in the air, the drop in pressure. He envied Alphonse on this one matter. When it rained, Al couldn't feel the uncomfortable dampness, the mixture of heavy cloth on already heavy auto mail. Speaking of which, East city was close to Resembool. Perhaps after whatever it was Mustang wanted to talk to them about he'd stop by there to get it checked by Winry. His arm had been feeling a bit stiff lately and he worried that if he were to get into a fight he may lose it.

Alphonse glanced over at Ed at his angry outburst. He never understood why Ed was always so uptight about meeting new people...Making new friends was just something that came naturally for Al.

"Calm down, Big Brother," he said. "We don't have to be rude." He turned to Ridge. "Um...Sorry about that..." He noticed that Ed was staring at the woman in turn, although it was a different kind of stare - less friendly, that was for sure. Was Ridge too cheerful for his taste? But no, she wasn't any more so than Winry - at least, Al didn't think so. And he knew how his brother felt about Winry, whether he admitted it or not. He nodded as Ed reassured him that the wagon would be able to carry him and tried not to shift too much. Poor horse...Having to carry all that weight, plus now a giant suit of armor...

Looked like the clouds were getting closer. Well, it wasn't like Al could feel the rain or anything...He wished he could, the thought materializing in his head before he could suppress it, although it was well hidden by his metal face. Even if the rain was somewhat uncomfortable after a while, Al wished he could at least be able to feel the sensation...Mentally berating himself, he pushed the thought out of his mind. Now wasn't the time to be thinking about that...He'd look forward to it after getting his body back, but for now he would have to refocus on the Philosopher's Stone.

He wondered what Roy Mustang would want to talk about. Was it another lead on the Stone? After so many false alarms...Al tried to push that thought out of his head too. What was wrong with him today? Rarely was he this pessimistic...Maybe it was just the gloomy weather that was making him feel down. It was certainly gray outside.

Not knowing what else to say, Al just kept quiet for the next while. He was a bit curious as to what Ridge was doing in East City, but as Ed had declined to answer her question and Al didn't want to give too much away to a stranger, he thought it would seem rude or nosy and didn't ask.

"Yes please," Mustang replied.

He was sure that many people would not like walking in the rain. The Storm Alchemist seemed like a laid back person.

"So, is this your first time to East City?"

"Better? he asked.

The new recruit obviously hadn't seen any sort of alchemy on that scale before, so his jaw dropped in surprise.

"You'll get used to it, Oliver said, patting him on the shoulder, then walking away. "Be careful of the icicles!" he called back.

Every day was another power struggle between this fort and the country of Drachma. He supposed he wasn't in any position to complain, as it was Amestris who started the confrontation by forcibly taking land from Drachma. But that land was needed for some strange reason, and Drachma wasn't using it, so the superiors assumed that it was okay to take it for their own, but Oliver, although compliant with the decision, was rather confused and suspicious at this development. It was something that he had to look into on another day, for he was due with a meeting with Major General Armstrong, and he hurried now to get over there in time to avoid being yelled at. Not to say that Major General didn't like having Oliver around, for she did, as it gave her a huge tactical advantage, she just expected everyone to follow orders clearly and punctually, which meant Oliver would have to hurry now to get there on time.

"Well, it really isn't anything special," he admitted. "All I do is use alchemy to pressurize and concentrate the air around my fingers, ignite it with a snap while wearing my ignition gloves, control where I want to send it by creating air tunnels, and then release it in an explosion."

Using alchemy to create a target out of the earth, he proceeded to demonstrate his alchemy to this (now that he noticed) beautiful girl. He was always one to flatter women. He concentrated for a brief second, in the process rather over-dramatizing the entire thing, snapped his fingers, creating a spark, and then let that spark of ignited air travel along over to the target, which exploded, scattering dust and dirt everywhere.

"I can do large explosions or small ones, depending on what the situation calls for," he said after brushing a bit of dirt that had landed on his military uniform. "How about you? How does this storm alchemy of yours work?

The weather can always change. . . . .

Zodak kept looking at the or what used to be the target. "it works on about the same princibles, only i dont do them from my finger to a target it from where the moisture in the sky is and where i want it to go. To put it in the simpilest terms." The teen threw knives one set into the dirt by her feet another identical set next to where the Cornell had set up his target. She drew a trasmutaion circlie in the one by her feet, connecting the knives with the lines. Then kneeling down again she placed her hand in the middle of the circle and made a tarfet identical to what the Cornells had looked like. Then clapping her hands she placed them on the ground away from the previosly drawn circl, and began to manipulate the weather forming one small storm cloud, she stopped when it was about five feet wide, and called lightning down on her target. Leaving nothing left of it but rubble.

"I've never seen alchemy like yours before," Roy said. "You wouldn't happen to be from Xing, would you?"

Roy only knew that Xing had some form of alchemy, and that it was different from Amestris's. He really needed to catch up on his diplomatic studies. If he was going to be Fuhrer someday, he needed to be able to understand everyone, every country, and everything that happened. It was of utmost importance, if he was going to change the world. Something just wasn't right with the Fuhrer, but Roy couldn't quite understand what.

My own personal branch." Zodak bent and picked up her knives from the dirt. And walked over and got the other set from the dirt.

There's a whisper on the night-wind

there's a star agleam to guide us,

And the Wild is calling, calling

let us go.

A smile came to her face when the man in the armor introduced himself and his brother. It felt a little weird to shake hands with a suit of armor but hey such was life. "Well at least one of you seems to be in a good mood. Thank you for being so polite, Al." Ridge said as she shifted once more on the hay. So they were brothers huh? The one in the armor seemed to be the older of the two, if height was the determining factor. Though the way Al seemed to look to his sibling for direction made her question it, what an odd pair they made. How they could be related came into question as the smaller one got a tad bit grumpy at her knowing their names. Paranoid much? Still Al seemed to be an absolute sweetie as the moments went by.

"Touchy touchy! No need to bite " She said the smile still on her face but a bit smaller now. "From the sounds of your lovely mood you must not be on a pleasure trip. Do try to relax there Ed, I'm not the bad guy. At least I don't think I am...to you at least." She continued with a chuckle. Being the villain all depended on who you were talking to and what they were thinking. To one person all alchemists could be evil while to another they could be god sent. It was all a matter of perspective. Speaking of perspectives it sounded like one blond haired boy needed to learn to try a few new views. Maybe he had a bad experience with blond girls...meh who knew.

"Well since you're brother seems to be in such a lovely mood....how are you Al? Day treating you nice?" Ridge asked turning her attention to the friendlier of the two. The teen was curious as to what had gotten to Ed but she wasn't going to make much headway by pushing him. Besides they were going to be spending at least half the day in this cart together, might as well be friendly. Maybe once he settled down he would open up. Still this weather was not going to make this more pleasant. Settling further into her coat Ridge eyed the clouds warily. "What the..." Ridge sat upright ignoring her hood as it fell back. Her pale eyes watched curious as the clouds hanging in the distant started to dissipate. "Hm...someone is a playing with weather alchemy in town....darn I was hoping for a good rain."

Hatred is active, and envy passive dislike; there is but one step from envy to hate.

Envy saw his opening, and took it. He hummed, as though thinking, and wondered aloud, "Ed and Al...? Where have I heard those names before? Ed and Al...a huge man in a suit of armor, and a tiny blond boy..." His back to the Elrics, Envy let a small smirk cross his face in anticipation. At Ed's response to Al's introduction, he called back, "Oi! Stop arguing, or you can walk the rest of the way!" He noticed the mention of the weather alchemist with interest. That was a useful skill...Perhaps they could use her if need be for their plan...

Now, Ed may have been quite right of the horse. It may have been quite able to carry Alphonse...had Envy not been there too. See, Envy could change his shape, but unfortunately, he couldn't change his mass, and, by extension, his weight which remained the same as his true form... in short, gargantuan. As a result, they had been traveling for a while, when the horse stumbled, and refused to move any further. Glaring darkly, Envy said, "Hey! What're you doing, keep going!" he kicked it, and it didn't respond. Muttering angrily, Envy jumped from the cart, and kicked the horse again. "C'mon! We need to get to East City today, before that rain! Get moving!!"

Envy is like a fly that passes all the body's sounder parts, and dwells upon the sores.

"Don't look down on me, you WORMS!" Alchemist girl, and Alphonse Elric. Oh yeah, and Edward! I forgot about him, he's so short I didn't notice he was there...!

"It doesn't matter because there is no exit." Hay cart half a day away from East City.

Behind the mask: I'm so sorry this took so long, I honestly thought I'd replied! And then my computer was freaking out... I'm sorry, please forgive me!!!

Edward grumbled. He hated it when people treated him like this. He wasn't a child anymore although far too many people tend to think that that is the case due to his......height.And then there was Alphonse being his perfectly polite self and getting all the praise. Whatever, its not like it mattered to him. He glared at her as she inspected them. From the way she was scanning them he could only guess what she was thinking. Everyone did the same thing every single bloody time. She probably thought that Al was the older brother.

Instead of dignifying her comment with an answer he just looked away. Her sarcasm was getting him on edge. It reminded him of someone but he couldn't quite place who. He knew it would bother him now. Then without much warning she switched attention to Al. Now he was agitated at such a quick change.Today just was turning out to be a bad day for Edward. What really didn't help was the fact he had already been very stressed about seeing Mustang. So added stress just piled on and shot out like a raging volcano.

The ride continued on for sometime. Ed seemed to calm a bit and even closed his eyes to concentrate. He peeked one eye open when he heard Ridge get up quickly. Both eyes then opened when he too saw the clouds. Alchemy, that was definitely what it was. The storm alchemist must be in east as well. Mustang had spoke of the girl before when he was last in central. Must be showing off to the pervert right now, he thought as he settled back into his not so comfortable corner of the wagon. As Edward sat there, trying to center himself he heard the drver speaking outloud, it seemed as though he knew them from somewhere, or at least had heard of them. Yet he then heard a certain taboo word escape his mouth. Edward opened his own to retort when suddenly the Cart jolted as it hit a rather large bump. Edward went into the air at least three or so feet before he landed with a heavy thud on the wooden floor of the cart.
"Watch where you're driving!" he yelled to the driver in his frustration. Slowly he moved so he could sit on a bigger pile of the soft hay, he needed it now as his butt was practically bruised from the hard wood. What he hadn't noticed was his watch had slid from it's place in his pocket. Too much concern was on his aching behind for the moment.

Ed had settled but noticed that the cart was now not moving. Oh great..that mumbling idiot who had somehow heard of him and Al (then again who hasnt) seems to have gotten them stuck...great. Standing up, watch still swinging from his belt loop he looked towards the front.
"Whats the hold up old man! We're in a hurry here!" he yelled, his anger nearing his boiling then exploding point.

As it turns out, due to a convenient shortcut that he had completely forgotten about ever since he arrived at Briggs, he arrived at the meeting on time. Key officers were already there, like Major Miles and Captain Buccaneer. The Ice Queen herself, sat at the head of the table, a severe, stern look on her face. Her full lips pursed in a frown.

"Now that everyone is here, we can finally get started," Armstrong said.

Oliver was aware that he had just avoided a major angry tirade by the Queen with the heart of Ice. She was a really unrelenting, furious person when mad, and her eyes just got that evil glint whenever you pissed her off.

"Buccaneer, it appears as if we are running low on supplies," she noted.

"Yes sir," Buccaneer replied. But with the current intelligence we have on Drachman movements, it seems that they are amassing a large army to oppose us yet again. We can not afford to leave without their spies noticing us. I'm sure that they'd give the attack order if one of us were to leave right now. Fools.

"Are you showing them mercy, Buccaneer? Because as you remember, it is survival of the fittest up here."

No sir, I was merely stating that they would mobilize their units faster if one of your strongest men were to leave right now to procure supplies from one of the southern cities."

"What if I go?" volunteered Oliver. "I can get by undetected, and then I can make my way to East City. As I recall, they have a surplus of food from the fertile farmlands, as well as a few shipments from the Eastern country of Xing. I can hide myself in the dense fog and escape by without alerting the Drachmans to our plans. If I have time, I can also slow down their advance by driving icicles into their artillery cannons. From the intelligence we've gathered, it would seem as if these were the last they have for a while. And, as we've cut off most of their steel imports, they would have to wait for a month before readvancing."

The Major General looked at him, then proceeded to pace while thinking. "Alright Beranger, she said finally. You have one month to procure supplies from East City."

"Yes sir, he replied.

"And give Mustang hell from me, she adedd.

That I shall do, Oliver replied.

Oliver wasn't quite sure why the Major General did not like Colonel Mustang that much. Oliver found his opposite quite likable actually, but it was always fun to tease him about his womanizing tactics. As he left The Brigg's Wall behind, drawing out some water vapor to produce a dense cloud of fog, then sneaking up to the Drachman military line and sabotaging all of their equipment silently, before now turning South towards where his car awaited. The trip down wouldn't take very long.
