Mm, wiki says year 4 is for 9-10 year olds, so that's about 5th grade over here. It looks like the difference is you guys have an extra year called "preparatory" in between kindergarten and first year.

Aww, so you're just starting out? Sorry about that man. But you know, try to take it smoothly, get through it for now and don't panic. It'll be flustering this year but trust me, from what I understand you'll already be getting better at handling it next year because you'll have a better idea of when it's coming.

Ah, I know. I want to become a teacher but the thing is I would always be asking myself if I was the kind of teacher I myself looked up to as a kid, and I don't think I have the right constitution for that. It takes a lot to be able to care for all those kids and in the later years, which are the ones I most want to teach, you have to make sure they really respect you or else your class ends up being easily disregarded. I think, though, that your worrying about doing a good job as long as you take a step back and don't freak out means you're going to do a good job. ^^ This way you're paying attention and really caring about your work. Though you're going to feel the strain of it this year, I think you'll do fine. : ) Just trust yourself, you've already made it this far. I don't know what it takes to become a primary teacher in the UK but if it's anything like the US you're more than capable. It's a hard haul for a few more weeks but you'll make it man, I promise.

So what kind of testing do kids this age go through? I'm only familiar with the US equivalent myself.

Just the usual. Reading, writing and maths.

Good news though.... NYAN CAT is finished. Made the last 2 legs, tail and did all the sewing up on Sunday night. I wore him to school! Kids love him and didn't believe I'd made him! Will get a pic up as soon as I can. ^_^

Well it is now 1/2 term break and I am getting some hardcore crocheting done! In the past couple of days I have managed to complete the beaded edging for the dress straps, buy and sew on some buttons and amd now working frantically on the skirt of the wedding dress. Am desperate to get it done in time for a Village Horticultural show around Easter time. So, until then it is crocheting in every spare moment. I must get as much as possible done this week so in the odd day I get during term time I won't have to be so frantic. Only about another 30 rounds of skirt and then the lower edging to complete. After that, a couple of flower motifs to decorate the edge of the upper bodice. Sounds simple... but it takes me about 50 mins to an hour for each round of skirt.

It does look lovely though! I think I am going to go and do some now!

On an unproject related line: I am going to my first craft show on Thursday. It is only small scale really... It's going to be an expensive day! I have already paid aroung £8.50 for the entrance ticket... I want to do some workshops there and will probs buy some supplies as well. Not sure where I will put it as I am running out of room >.<

Anyway, as I was saying: Off to crochet some skirt!

Sounds like it will be well worth the time spent - how long is the dress going to be when finished?
I seem to have enough trouble just trying to finish an afghan...I keep finding other things to work on as well, like a crocheted scarf that's been started 4 times now: first it was just not the right stitch-tried a new one I'd seen, and couldn't get it to work out; then I found the perfect stitch, and it looked nice, but was too narrow and stiff; so I switched to a larger hook, but then it looked too lacy for a guy; then I had to buy another crochet hook, since I didn't have one big enough but not too big...once I get more than an inch or so of it done, I'll know if it's 'just right' yet... rofl

It's going to be full length. I put it on a dress form last night and it came down to about knee length! Woo!

I know what you mean about starting projects. After so long on one project, I get the itch to start something different XD No wonder it takes me ages to finish anything!

I know what you mean about Afghans. Because of their size I find that I start enthusiastic and keen.... then I get bored. I guess I like quicker projects really. Instant gratification!

That's awesome!

I am determined to finish the afghan, but it's giving me fits. It's 5 colors (plus white, which makes 6 total), so it should be a lot more interesting to work on, however, I find that I tend to work on it while doing other things, and then have to tear out most of an entire row since I've messed up towards the beginning of the row. The amount of time and effort I've put into it, I should be close to done with it by now, but because of tearing out so much, I'm only done with one 'set' of each color, so am actually only 1/3 done!

So last Thursday I went to my first craft show! Woo!

It was really good. Though yarn is my natural crafting friend I didn't really buy too much in the way of knitting and crochet. I bought some cool decopatch kits. I even decopatched a picture frame there. It was really good fun. I also tried my hand at silk painting. I was rather impressed with my efforts even if I say myself! The frame and the painting worked really well together so the frame now holds my silk painting!

The best thing I picked up was on a stand called festival of Japan. They ran a course for making Shibori silk flowers. I love them. I also bought some Kanzashi flowers to make as well. I'm looking forward to having a go at them.

All in all a good day. I spent nearly 6 hours there! Not bad as it was only open for 7 hours XD

I'll have to try and post some photos at some point. It's just finding the time to upload. Oh well~

In reagards to the Crochet wedding dress- I am down to round 70 of the skirt! GO ME! That's about lower calf length. I estimated I'd need 72 rounds for the skirt before completing the edging but it looks more like I am going to need 80-82 ish. I'll hopefully get a few more done on the weekend. No time during the week now that I'm back at work.

That's all for now!

Happy Crafting everyone!

So, I am now, finally, on the lower edging of the skirt!!! WOO! Only problem is that it doubles the number of open shells as I now work shells into the previous shells and then the spaces between shells. As a result doubled number of shells!!!

It does look good though as it has created a slight ruffle so far. 5 more rounds to go!

^_^

Did a Google Image search - The Shibori & Kanzashi flowers are drop dead beautiful!!!!! Were they kits for sale, or something only available at the show?

I've not painted on silk before, but I have painted on fabric - and had a lot of fun with it.
I've also done Batik, where you paint/draw a design on fabric with melted wax, then dye the fabric. The dye doesn't color where the wax is, so you can get some really intricate designs. Iron the fabric to melt the wax out. If desired, add more to the design with wax & dye again with a different color.
