T.J. watched as Anca slowly took her place on the couch. He couldn't draw his eyes away from her as she walked to the couch, it was the first chance he really had to look at her, she was a looker no doubt about that. Back in the day Taylor would have thrown caution to the wind for a girl like this, but now in the wasteland he was a bit more hesitant to share his emotions, with anyone really. "I had to search 4 floors to find one that was decent, hauled it down here from the 11th floor. " He said calmly, keeping pace with the small talk. He continued to file down the rounds and place them in a neat line on the table. Out of the corner of his eyes he watched as Anca tried to stay awake, he found it strangely comforting. He quieted the filing of the rounds and went back to putting gunpowder in the .52 caliber shells so she could sleep without the bother of loud noises. His ears pearked up when she spoke again and he looked back to her to see her eyes open once again. "Um..yeah. I found this yesterday at the market...figured it could help save me some time and ammo." He stated in response to her question. "You know if your tired....you can use the bedroom." He said and pointed down the only hallway in the apartment that led to two doors, one bedroom and one bathroom. "Its down there to the right..." He said as he went back to filling the shells. " Theres a lock on the door too if you still don't trust me. " He said with a smile on the corner of his lips, he didn't expect her to stay, but secrelty hoped she would, it would be nice not to wake up to an empty apartment for once. " I think theres some extra clothes in there too...if your interested. Their all mens clothes but feel free to take what you need..." He stated as he finished packing gunpowder into the shells and began the process of sealing them for use.

User Image Anca raised an eyebrow in response to his offer, "You are trying to get me in the bedroom on the first night?" She smirked to let him know it was only a joke, but it did work both ways here. Anca knew what he meant, but she liked to ruffle the feathers of others. You find out what they really are like that way. "I suppose there is likely an impending shortage on blankets, so good thinking on your part, body heat and all..." She smiled again and held up an apologetic hand to express once again that she was only joking. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough light in the room to see if he blushed easily or not...

T.J. opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out. He looked up from the toolset and looked in the direction of Anca, " Oh...mm..." He said nervously, feeling a little embarrassed now for being so outgoing. He regained his composure quickly and the result was a lingering smirk as she spoke again. " Well I could probably go down the hall and ask for some...but my neighbors are still mad that I stole their couch." He looked downward after speaking toward the table and began fiddling again with the rounds. Luck was on his side, the room's darkness made it easy to hide his face from prying eyes. He scooped up the rounds and slipped them into spaces on a leather belt designed to hold the .50 and .52 ammunition, a smirk hiding on his face all the while in the shadow of the room.

User Image Anca's whole plan was to joke around and relax him but she seemed to be doing quite the opposite, from what she could tell. She'd planned on making another naughty joke but with a smirk on her face, she decided against it. Anca stretched out on the couch, extending her arms far over her head, pointing her toes hidden under brown leather boots. Though she kept her feet on the ground, the rest of her body had taken to the couch as though she meant to go to sleep, but she couldn't allow herself to do it. For now, laying down was a small comfort she would not take for granted. She watched him now as she laid here facing him. She had no shame in watching him either. "I don't think your neighbors could be mad that you stole their couch... You're putting it to such good use," she smiled faintly, her arms folded under her head, propping it up.

Taylor let a smile creep onto his face and looked back over in Anca's direction. " True, they probably wouldn't mind either since your using it." He looked back down at his now finished project and let the smile linger. Standing up from the table he reached into the air and stretched his back. He then walked back over into the kitchen and pulled a small canteen out of the sometimes working refrigerator. He took a small drink then set it down on the table in front of the couch "Feel free," He said notioning to the canteen. T.J. then walked over to where his equipment was next to the window and took off several layers, removing a long sleeve shirt, a black scarf, a basic BDU military shirt and finally a white undershit. He folded all of these neatly next to his equipment and turned to walk into the hall, white undershirt in hand. "Be right back.." He said and shortly returned wearing a loose hoody.

User Image Her eyes lingered on him, where ever he moved, how he folded his clothing immediately after taking it off, which she noticed a lot more than the folding.

When Taylor came back into the room, Anca stood quickly, a particular seriousness on her face as she walked cautiously to him. When she stood in front of him, she looked up for a moment and then hugged him, "Thank you for doing this for me," She knew what kind of people there were out there. He could easily have turned her away, and she knew it. Instead he was being generous and kind. That was rare to find in someone before the plague. It was nice to feel something so real for a change, something living and breathing as she was.

T.J. stopped frozen as she approached him, not quite sure what to expect. When she hugged him it only made him freeze up more, but he quickly let himself relax realising she could tell when he was tense. He slowly brought his arms up to embrace her as well. He was still nervous, but managed to squeeze out a quiet and calm,"Don't mention it." His head turned slightly to the right to hide his face, a calming smile beginning to form on his lips. It was strange, he had been in relatively good spirits since Anca stumbled through his window, something he wasn't accustomed to, but missed.

User Image When Anca let go of him she went back to the couch, though now she was sitting upright and was looking at a blank TV screen, holding and imaginary remote in her hand, pretending to press buttons, "Did you forget to pay your cable bill?" she said very seriously, but of course she was joking again. The power was out. They would probably never watch TV again. So she made jokes about it. Somehow, Anca always found a way to make Taylor more uptight around her. She'd pulled out all of her techniques that had worked on guys before this plague had begun and now, these maneuvers were taking her in the wrong direction. So now she would try small, innocent jokes, since jokes about the bedroom, her personal favorite type of jokes, did not work as she'd expected them to.

Taylor paused to take a deep breath before he followed her back to the couch. He sat down next to her and leaned back on the couch, "Yeah...I've been meaning to talk to my mailman about that." He said jokingly with a half smirk on his lips. "I used to have a tape player and a VHS set...but I ran out of batteries a couple months ago." As he spoke he let his eyes wander from the blank television to Anca. His gaze steady and his body language less unsure. "So are you from around here?" He said trying not to push it too much, his voice calm and gentle.

User Image Anca turned to lean her back against the armrest so that she was completely facing him now. She rested and elbow on the back of the couch and pulled her hair back away from her face, "No," she said simply and was planning on leaving it there, but she figured the next question was going to be 'From where?' so she decided to skip a step. "When the plague struck in the Middle East, my entire family had me shipped here, from Romania. I haven't seen them since." She looked down at her fingernails. She'd been such a prim and proper girl before this. Normally she would have had a fit seeing the state of her nails, how filthy her clothes were... Things were different. After a long pause she looked back up at Taylor, her pupils large and dark from the lack of light, "I'm sorry to hear about your parents..." She didn't have the courage to say it earlier. Now she did.

He sunk into the couch a bit more and listened, staring at the television for a moment then turning his gaze to the window as if something may appear in the darkness. He missed the street lights, at least then you could see them wandering the streets at night, now it was just black. He nodded when she mentioned that she was from Romania. After a moment he looked up to speak but before he could he caught her eyes, pausing after she spoke he responded," Don't be....They took the easy way out. I flew over Romania once...never been there. I guess their probably regretting sending you here right about now huh?" He said jokingly, pausing afterward as if to pull back what he just said. He looked away for a moment, hoping she wouldn't be take insult to his rash comment, but he figured by now they were friendly enough.

User Image Anca's eyes glistened as he spoke about his parents 'taking the easy way out.' She wasn't sure if that meant they'd taken their own lives but she would never ask that. It felt wrong. When he commented on her family regretting sending her here, she shrugged, "After I got here, the broadcasting stations shut down. I haven't heard from that part of the world since I left. I don't even know what it's like, if the plague has reached there... I hate thinking it, but I'm sure it has..." She tugged on a thread from her jeans, "So where were you going when you flew over my country?" Her eyes met his again, and she held them there, only occasionally her gaze slipping to specific features on his face, like his strong jawline, or his pronounced cheekbones, or his lips. But always her eyes returned and bore into his like she was studying in school again, the wings of a Great Spangled Fritillary butterfly, indigenous to North America, the way her eyes had been so wide and curious.

Taylor nodded and wanted to say something to comfort but was left speechless. It was one of the rare times he was enjoying some positivity in his recent life, but he couldn't give someone false hope, at least not yet. He moved a bit closer to her a proped his socks up on the table in front of the couch. He stayed facing her, attempting to keep eye contact as often as possible as he listened to her, admiring more than her soft voice."I served in the airborn for 3 years, was usually stationed at a base in Turkey, but sometimes we passed over Romania on the way to Ukraine." He said, leaving it at that, besides he'd only ever been shot at twice and it was nothing to talk about. He didn't take too much pride in the fact that he was a soldier, it taught him things that helped him to survive, but all in all he felt it was a waste of three years.

User Image "Soldier boy, eh?" Anca smirked presumptuously, "A man-in-uni-form..." She spaced her words here, giving the last three emphasis. Now she thought more schematically, not that it was anything important, just for her own curiosity, she wanted to see if he would cooperate, "So three years," she pretending to be doing math in her head, "You started when? Don't tell me, three years added with, say, 19 years... would make you..." Anca trailed off, waiting to see if he would take the bait, licking her lips as she traced a finger through the air, still pretending to add up his years...

He shrugged at the thought but smiled because it had come from her lips. He tried to keep from laughing as she tried to guess his age and waited in awkward silence for a moment before speaking." Im 26..." He said loosing himself in her gazde once again. " I went to 4 years of college at the naval academy and then 3 years of service..." He said almost like he had told it a hundred times, a smirk at his lips as he did so. He let his head rest back into the couch and looked up at the ceiling, breathing steadily. He would have closed his eyes and fallen asleep right there, but his sleeping schedule wouldn't let him.
