Ronald gave a little smile and handed her the money.

"I guess I have no choice but to tell you." He leaned close to her and whispered "I am really a merchant. I have a large collection of bracelets and my customers would like this one of such beauty. Please?"

He gave her a small smile and looked at her deeply. Most girls he followed around always fell for his crystal blue eyes.

Thirrin stood staring across the sands of Jehanna. It always made her feel calm after a long day of training and learning about magic. Her teacher would drone on and on...and all she would do was sit there and nod. Her passion only came into practicing magic; then her talents really shone through. She had inherited her grandfather Ewan's skills with magic, along with his vivid red hair and eyes.

As she gazed across the sands, she had a thought. It would be beneficial to her learning if she were to travel and experience more of the world. How much was she going to learn cooped up in a stuffy room listening to her teacher drone on and on?? But she would never be allowed. Not after the bandit attack, during which she had nearly gotten herself killed. Her leg was still weak from where the axe had struck. If only she could find a travelling companion; one who would be supportive and possibly teach her more about magic. But whom?

Tap. Tap. Tap. Siiiiiigh. Tap. Tap. Ta--
"Julia, you really could stop daydreaming and make yourself useful. Besides, that tapping is getting on my nerves. Do you ever cut your nails?"
Julia sat up from her desk[which was conveniantly placed right in front of a window with a wonderful view of the gorgeous day outside, it was rather easy for her to start daydreaming], startled to hear a voice.
"Wh-Wha? Daydreaming?"
"Yes. And excessive tapping on your desk. Do you mind?"
"... Oh... of course. My apolagies."
"No need to apolagize. Now, look, as I was saying; do these sheets need washing?"
"Yes, ma'am..."
"Alright, then. That's all I needed to know." So with that, the maid woman scurried out of the room, Julia's bedsheets in hand. She had never liked that woman... Always so blunt; rude, as well.

Julia sighed once more, hanging her head, her elbows resting on her desk as her hands went through her hair absentmindedly. Why was she so out of it this morning? Why, she asked herself dully, was her mind in another universe?
She stood from her desk, grunting quietly as she messed around with her hair to make it look decent. A walk, she decided, would suffice. She needed a break anyway; she had been working on a decree to offer to the King almost all night and was exhausted. Maybe the fresh air would help clear her head?
Walking out of her room, she made sure to close the door quietly behind her. Around here, you never knew who you were going to disturb next. As soon as she turned around, though, she was face-to-face with King Albert and Princess Jenna. She was surprised for a moment, but soon she gave a bow.
"Your Highness, Princess," she greeted kindly. "Good morn-- err, afternoon." She stood up straight, a smile plastered on her face. Right then, she had wished she didn't look so tired-- she had circles under her eyes, and even if she had spent more time in her room trying to fix her long, curly, dirty blonde hair, it still looked mussed. Pulling an all-nighter /was/ normal for Julia, but her mind had just been wandering lately; and half of the night she probably hadn't been working on her decree anyway.

King Albert prompty greeted Julia as she confronted him. his tone was strictly professional, "Good afternoon, Julia. How fare you? Jenna and I are going for a walk." He gave the thought to end it right there a moment, but he took notice of something and continued, "You seem famished... You must've worked too long on that decree. Might you join us, if just for a little while?" The king offered his hand.

Jenna stood by silently and watched. She gave a slight smile when Julia greeted her. Her mind was somewhere else, as it always was. What she was thinking of at any given time, nobody knew. She never opened up. She never shared her mind. But she was still young, although she still acted younger than her age. She was unaware of her feelings. To think she would ever go on any sort of adventure... was rediculous! She hardly ever left her room much less the castle. She did visit Renais once, and met Princess Serenity before Renais was attacked. It was a while ago, though. She probably vexed her father, being so reserved. He was probably hoping for a daughter who was upbeat, like her great aunt, Tana.

"Thank you, I'm doing well, Your Highness," Julia replied. She was expecting some sort of dismissal, a goodbye, or something; but then he invited her to go along with him. She paused. A walk with the two of them did sound lovely. She would have to be more tense than if she were alone by herself, but that was alright.

"I would be honered to join you, sir," she said after a moment. She paused, and then added, "I'm hoping to have the decree finished as soon as possible. I pray it will be to your liking, Your Highness."
Her smile grew, and she placed herself next to Jenna. Maybe she would talk a little? At least a small conversation, she hoped. First she commented on what a nice day it was, then she smiled down at Jenna.
"How are you doing, Your Royal Highness? Good, I hope?"
Julia had always thought that Jenna was as cute a button. In fact, that was what had kept her daydreaming for a long time; thinking of how much she envied King Albert and Queen Liane for having such a lovely young daughter, thinking of how things could have been...
'... But that was the past. I mustn't dwell on it any longer,' Julia scolded herself.

[Oh? "What's this?" you ask? Weeeeelll... I won't tell you! And only Knight-chan knows. Bwahaha. <3]

"It's a de-"

Before serenity could finish her sentence, she noticed something on ber bracelet that she had never seen before. Inside the moon-shaped stone that rested on it, an image of her great aunt Eirika appeared for a brief moment. The spirit of Serentiy's ancestor was trying to contact her, but she didn't quite understand, and she certainly did not recognize Eirika.

She blinked her eyes, and when she looked at the stone again, Eirika's face was gone. "I'm sorry... but .. I must have the bracelet... uh... checked out first," she said with a strange expression on her face. "I think I saw... uh... a scratch. I really do want to sell it to you. I need the money for food. I have no home and no family."

Thirrin woke up early the next morning to practice her magic skills. She successfully destroyed the quintain that local kinights used to practice with the lance, and almost caused a house fire. She knew that she needed a lot more practice if her parents were ever going to let her learn more about magic; she would need to develop her skills to the extent that she wasn't burning things by accident. As she returned home, she had a sudden burst of thought. What would happen if she decided to travel alone, without her parents' permission? Surely she could keep herself out of harm's way for a little while, and someone would want to be her travelling companion if she roamed around long enough. She would take some vulneraries just in case she got injured, and she could always bring money so she could stop at inns or buy more magic tomes.
She grabbed a piece of cloth and wrapped up her fire tome, and ran into the local vendor to buy some vulneries and a travelling cloak. She was actually going to do this!!!
"Thank you!" she cried as she fled the shop, bubbling with excitement. She was running away!!! She was going to travel!!! It would be so exciting!!!

"... ... ..." It took Jenna a moment to realize she was being addressed again, "Oh! I... I'm fine... thank you." She quickly lowered her head and stared at the ground, feeling a bit awkward. King Albert knew Jenna was feeling fine. How? She ALWAYS was feeling "fine". If you asked her how she was doing, 100% of the time she would be fine. What Albert wouldn't give for a sentence more than 4 words long from Jenna. "I'm fine", "Yes, father", "Thank you", "Very well", "It's okay", "I'm sorry", "I see", "Of course" and other two worded phrases constituted most everything Jenna ever said out loud. The only reason he accepted this truth was because he knew it was his fault she was like this, or at least that was what he was telling himself. Surely if he had been more of an interacting father, she would be more open to him and everyone else.

A man came running up the corridor, urgency in his pace. From his uniform, you could tell he was one of the castle guards. He ran in front of King Albert and kneeled, "Your Highness! There is a matter which requires your attention!" Albert gave a quick glance at Jenna.

"Can't you see I'm spending time with my daughter? Can't whatever it is wait?"

"I apologize, milord, but would you hear it first, and then decide whether to attend to it?"

"Very well, out with it." The guard shot a glance at Jenna and then at Julia.

"This is only for your ears, milord." Albert nodded and slowly approached the guard. He lent him his ear and the guard started whispering the message.

"... ... Hm? What? ... ... ... Are you kidding? ... ... ... ... Hmm... ... I see..." Albert backed away from the guard and came up to Jenna and put a hand on her shoulder, "Jenna, sweetie... There's something I must attend to. It'll only take a minute, okay? I'll be right back after I'm finished, is that alright?"

"Yes, father." King Albert then turned to Julia.

"Julia. I know this is not you responsibility, but for this one time, I'd like to ask you to watch over Jenna while I'm gone. It'll only take a minute. Just make sure you don't stray too far away that I can't find you when I get back." The king and the guard started to walk off swiftly. Jenna watched both of them leave.

Julia nearly glared poison at the guard when he said that it wasn't for her ears. But, as usual, she contained it. She wasn't so high up that she could know everything, right? But maybe she, one day, would be, though...

Julia looked down, her eyes landing upon the head of little Jenna. Her eyes softened. Was she ever saddened when her father had something to do; something that people portrayed was of more importance than Jenna herself? The life of a daughter of the rich and famous... was not easy, Julia decided. But neither was the life of a daughter of a poor and sickly man.
Irrelevance, her mind spat. She needed to keep her mind on the task at hand.
When King Albert returned, Julia was already expecting what he said. She had nodded, and said, "Yes, of course, my lord. Pay no worry."

When they had gone, Julia placed a soft hand on Jenna's shoulder.
"Let's go over there, shall we? We'll wait until your daddy gets back. I'm sure it won't take long."
She led her over toward a bench. The feet curled upwards, and on each end were what seemed like arm-resters, or something to the effect. The royal life was quite rich if even the benches were this comfortable!
After sitting, Julia looked over at the young princess. She seemed quite...
"... Jenna... are you lonely?" she asked slowly.
Julia knew that she was imposing on privacy, but it had been nagging on her for quite some time. She was so distant; it was unnatural, and even unhealthy for a growing girl.

[Sorry if that was too much without consent of little Jenna. >< I didn't think she would have objected or not obeyed if Julia just led her over to a bench and sat her down.]

Ronald sighed. In the inn, his head was hurting.

That bracelet.... Get it for me... It was Eirika's. Her brother killed your mother.... Kill that girl and get me the BRACELET!!!

He shook off the feeling. He went outside and opened his spell book. He found his teleport spell and he warped himself to Jehanna. He landed on top of a red-haired girl.

[I hope you don't mind I mentioned Thirrin catz!! sweatdrop ]

I've got to return this money. If he does not want the bracelet, it would be wrong for me to take this much money., Serenity thought. Though she was in great need of this money, she felt very guilty taking it without giving up her bracelet. She ran after the 'merchant,' but she could not find him.

She kept running, in an attempt to catch up with him, unaware that he had teleported across the continent. She turned a corner, and found herself on an empty street. Nobody else was around..... except for a few dogs. However, they were not ordinary dogs at all. They were Mauthe Daugs- demonic canines with a hungerfor human flesh. They eyed Serenity, ready to strike. The poor girl trembled in fear.

Suddenly, the stone on her bracelet sparkled, and when she looked up from viewing her bracelet, a rapier was lying on the ground in front of Serenity. She was not quite sure how it got there, but she picked it up. Though she was armed with a weapon that she had minimal experience with, she was still terrified, and she screamed.

"YAAAAAAAAAH!"

((Just thought I might make things a bit more interesting with some action. biggrin ))

Ronald stood up and saw the girl was unconscious. He looked around and then looked through her stuff. He saw some basic magic books and then, feeling guilty, he set down a Fimbulvetr book next to her. He pulled out some paper and wrote

Young mage,
I apologize for hurting you. As you can see I am giving you a Fimbulvetr spell book to say sorry.

Signed,
Prince Ronald of Jehanna

He quickly put up his hood and ran towards his castle.

Lenore observed the prisoners as her soldiers lined up what few had been taken. Evidence of this assault had to be kept to a minimum, and fake evidence had to be planted to make it look as though it had been perpetrated by wild beasts. "Alright then. Execute them."

"Yes sir!" the soldiers responded in unison. They lined the soldiers up, and brought in a large chest full of unconventional weapons. Poison claws and large shears would make it seem less like a military assault.

Just as they brought the first prisoner up, however, a soldier standing over him with a particularly nasty piece of jaggedness, Lenore caught a blur of movement. With a loud battlecry and a rush of adrenaline, one of the prisoners broke away from his captors, simultaneously grabbing a large sword that was laying on the ground. "Die you b*****d!" he cried as he leaped high into the air, bringing his sword arcing down towards Lenore.

Shifting slightly, she brought her lance up with one hand, blocking the sword and pushing upward. As she did this her other hand shot out towards the soldier, latching onto his throat and squeezing hard. "Fool. Now I will kill you, and I promise you it will be worse than anything my men could do to you." She gave a hard squeeze and he dropped the sword, then loosened her grip, eliciting a gasp from the helpless soldier. She held out her right hand, and gestured towards the poison claws, dropping her lance as she did so, which she was promptly handed. "Listen up! I'm going to show you how to make a man suffer! Pay close attention to what I do," she announced. She then proceeded to make good on this promise in such a way as to make even the most cold-blooded of her men squeemish.

User ImageThirrin came to a few minutes later, and was astonished at the note that she found beside her. She wasn't quite ready to use a tome like this yet; but she would learn. After all; that was why she was leaving. But then she saw who had signed the note. Almost jumping for joy, with a new found hope, Thirrin gathered her bearings and continued to walk along, resisiting all temptations to start leaping and bounding down the dusty path.
