Matasoga

This doesn't apply to servers and some other jobs in which customer tips are customary. I've applied for iobs like that, and I had heard so, before. Most times, if the place is doing well and keeps busy throughout the work day, it's a relatively upscale establishnnent in a decently affluent neighborhood, and they're good at what they do, then they walk out with considerably more than what they might have if it were just minimum wage.

I have never heard of that before, I wonder if Washington is just different. I really could have sworn that you had to be paid at least minimum wage.

(Completely unrelated, minimum was confusing there at the end. d: )

Matasoga is right. I know in Texas for sure jobs like that, if you didnt make the equivalent of minimum wage then the difference would be paid in your check. Like at Sonic, not many know you have to tip your carhop so we didnt get as many tips as a server in a sit down restaurant. So occasionally if you were on the crappy shifts(after happy hr and before the drunkards came in) Sonic had to pay abit more in our paychecks to make up what we didnt make in tips. That's also why we had to write down our tips at the end of the night.

And mmhmm Gelato was fun! At first I just served it, then they cross trained me so I made it too.

I don't know, maybe it's like that here too. I've never worked that sort of job so I don't really know one way or the other.

Ooh, making it sounds fun. I made ice-cream once in school, we made it then we got to eat it, it was a great day. We roasted hotdogs once too. That was the best science class I ever took. d:

Mhmm alot of fun! One part of the job was sampling the gelato to make sure we knew what it tasted like and which mixed well with which. And I had to do it as production so I knew what I was bringing out when no one labeled a batch.
I've never done retail, so you have more experience there than me. Have you ever worked food? You mentioned Rite Aid..

I wouldn't mind tasting gelato all day.
I haven't worked food, not really anyhow. I worked at the Rite Aid for awhile, cashiering and developing photos then I went across the street to Hastings where I worked in the book department, and video for awhile, I cashiered, supervised, and I would work the cafe if I had to. The only parts of the store I didn't work in were the music department and the back room. I basically taught myself how to work the cafe and I also taught myself how to completely ruin the popcorn...hot oil and styrofoam don't mix, at all...just in case anyone wondered. d:

I've never heard oh Hastings. Haha ruin popcorn hmm? One of my coworkers at my new job was recently promoted to supervisor and we really threw him for a loop, accidentally. THat morning, just after a rush I was getting someones fries to go and the way it works is you put it in a little black boat looking tray and put a clear plastic lid over it. Well i wenbt to grab the clear lid i had put on the lip of the fryer and as i moved a lil gust of wind from the nearby fan caught it and pushed it into the fryer grease! The lid is about as tall as ones palm and the length of your hand and oval shaped. Once he had drained the fryer and got it out, it was as flat as paper! And later that day the other training girl dropped italian seasoning into it!!

Hastings is a store that sells books, music, movies, and related items and some of them have cafes. It was a fun place to work for awhile. 3nodding
But yes, we totally ruined the popcorn before it was even popped. Another girl and I were supposed to be making the popcorn, we both forgot about it and burnt the oil. We had to dump the oil out and start over, well our bright idea was let's get a bowl out of the cafe to put the oil in...only problem was, all the bowls were styrofoam. The oil instantly melted the bowl sending hot, burnt oil and melted styrofoam all over the inside of the machine. It took us forever to get it all cleaned out. >//<;;
Then of course we pretended that it had never happened. XD
So, I can relate to the plastic in the fryer. The Italian seasoning doesn't sound like it would be terrible though.

Ahh so kinda like a borders or Barnes&nobles hmm? Oh wow! I bet that was fun for the customers to watch XD I actually did something similar at home. I did hamburger meat and the oil I tried pouring into a plastic cup and put it behind the sink. i hear this weird sound and turn around to see grease going everywhere. I got a few burns being a dumbo and grabbing it to trash it XD
It wasnt too horrible, he just had to dump the seasoning, clean the shaker and refill it. So worst it did was waste seasoning.

Sort of, but with more music and movies. Heh, luckily it was early enough in the morning that there weren't any customers yet. Ooh, I've done that with hamburger grease too...you'd think I'd learn... d:
Ah, that's not so bad then I guess at least he didn't have to clean out the fryer again.

Yeah luckily I've kept to glass and metal since. Though my grandmother managed to crack her glass measuring cups when she put it in the microwave to heat up veggie oil.

Probably, I would have been horrendously embarrassed though. ^//^;
I usually use a tin can now, safer that way. I did manage to have my best 9x13 baking dish shatter from hot oil, it was the oil that naturally came out of the roast I was cooking though so that one wasn't really my fault.

Oh dont worry, i've been in that boat before. I was opening by myself at the italian ice cream place. I was trying to get hot water for this guy who wanted an espresso americano and I didnt know that the machine we make espresso in had a hot water option(quit laughing) So I grabbed the coffee maker and poured enough water in it to fill the guys cup. Well it didnt work fast enough so I said screw it and went on to the next best thing. What I didnt notice was when it actually started dripping and there was nothing under it! A lady finally got my attention and pointed out that my whole counter was flooded -.-'
Ooooh, i've done that before. When I was little my mom did chicken in the oven and we dont know how this happened but she pulled it out of the oven in its glass pan she put it on the counter and as soon as she walked out it exploded! Luckily the only damage was a glass or two in everyones foot, but everyone was ok. I did a similar one to yours last week. It exploded with pork chops in the oven!

I mostly just walked into things. I nearly knocked over a display of calenders once, I managed to catch it but there was a customer near by. I got an odd look but then she asked if I was alright. I told her I was fine but I scraped my arm up pretty good. But I didn't know there was a hot water spigot on the espresso machine either, I microwaved tap water for about a week before someone finally told me where the hot water was. ^//^
That's what happened with mine! I pulled it out of the oven and set it on top to cool and a few minutes later my son walked past and it just exploded. Glass went everywhere, luckily he was spry and jumped out of the way. He would have had glass in his face if he hadn't. I had a pan shatter in the oven once too. We were all sitting around and heard a loud pop, opened the oven to see glass everywhere.

Luckily I havent yet at the current job. Just what I need, Marines, Navy and air Force guys seeing me fall on my face sweatdrop We didnt have a microwave at the gelato place, we had hot tap water and the water from making coffee until I found out about the espresso spigot.
Oh wow! he was lucky! Fiance was watching a creepy movie on the computer when the pork chop pan exploded, scared the bejezzus out of him!

Where do you work now?
Sometimes it's silly the things they forget to mention when you're being trained, then again, I never really was trained. I was basically given a recipe book and shown where the ingredients were stored.
Heh, that's funny.
