Barely hearing her question he looked over at her, a puzzled look on his face. "What did you say? I didn't quite hear you," he asked, truly not having heard her question. Shaking his head to remove a sudden fuzziness he felt himself grow a little lightheaded. Rubbing his hand across his now throbbing forehead he leaned against the wall, slowly sliding down it.

As he crashed to the ground he let out a sigh and lifted a knee up, placing his arm over it. Gently he rested his head on his arm, giving him the appearance of someone who is relaxing. However he felt a painful sensation in his head and was breathing rather heavily. Between his heavy pants he muttered, "Water......and grab......my pills......they are in the......living room on the table. Please........hurry." Suddenly the world began to grow blurry, and he knew if he didn't get his pills soon he would faint. [Damn stress, giving me anxiety.]

Coteshi reached out and grabbed the pills and water, barely opening his mouth. Sliding the pills in he gently put the glass to his lips and took a sip of water. The pills washed down easily and he listened to her questions, having expected no less. Speaking softly, barely more than a whisper, he told her, "A little stress is all, I have a minor condition. And yes I am, but not relaxed."

Placing his hand on her shoulder, not even thinking about her bruises, he lifted himself from the ground. As he stood there, his hand on her shoulder he realized that little fact. Instantly he removed his hand, and he began to wobble a little, still lightheaded. "It takes a moment for my medicine to work, shouldn't have skipped them in the first place." Awkwardly smiling at her he tried to act as if nothing was wrong.

Hearing her words he dropped his head and took a deep breath, then he answered, "Anything and everything." Straightening his smile up a little he coughed once, causing him to double over slightly. Standing up he placed his hand on the wall, trying to steady himself. Placing his forehead on the wall he stared blankly in front of him.

"Anyways, what was it you said? I was in my own world when you said something about your father," he whispered quietly. He wasn't even sure she had heard, so he casually looked over at her. His eyes locking with hers, though his were a little exhausted and dead, so they were almost haunting.

Coteshi breathed in heavily, then he decided what he was going to say. "Like the beatings? I noticed your bruises, and I easily put two and two together," he said solemnly. Straightening up he stood tall, he would have looked stronger had his knees not slightly buckled. Locking eyes with her he asked, "How often did the man beat you?"

His eyes were hard, as if anger was boiling behind them. Putting his hand on his forehead he stared at her, hiding his pain. Speaking comfortingly, but still sternly, he told her, "You can tell me, like I said you are like my sister." [I can't turn back now,] he thought to himself as he rubbed his forehead. Even his smile faded into a frown, and it truly did not look good on his face.

Instantly he understood the hidden meaning behind her words and realized why she hated his touch. "I'm so sorry," his voice was weak, he couldn't believe it. For a moment he simply stared at her, she looked so innocent, yet she had been through that already. Speaking to her softly, as if his voice was fading, he told her, "I guess I shouldn't say you are like my sister then. After what your brother did to you."

[Maybe this is why she seems to hate me,] he thought as he looked into her eyes. Now he understood why they seemed so lifeless before, but as he looked into them he noticed they already had regained some color. This made him smile on the inside, but on the outside he could hardly move he was so stunned. Dropping his eyes from hers he said, "Thank you for helping me today, and for the meal. But I doubt you like my company, so I guess I'll retire to my chambers."

Slowly he turned and walked away, unable to think about that. Still his mind pondered the fact that it was her brother and father. Then he hit the fact that he had called her his sister. [She didn't think........] Turning instantly at this thought he told her, "You didn't think that's why I hired you?" Knowing it likely was he curled his hands into a fist, ready to punch through a wall.

Every step he took helped to numb his pain, he couldn't stand to be near her anymore. Slowly he opened his door, shutting it quietly behind him. Like a zombie he walked over to his bed and fell face first into it. He didn't quite understand why he felt like this, he truly had done nothing wrong. Well he didn't do anything on purpose at least.

Rolling over onto his back he stared up at his ceiling and then closed his eyes. "Why would they do that? To their own family!" His voice was soft, only meant it be heard by him. As he stared at his ceiling he couldn't help but feel horrible, like he had done something terrible. "I can't believe she thought that's why I hired her........"

Suddenly he hopped out of his bed and walked to his door rather quickly. Flinging it open he rushed outside and went up the stairs to the second floor. He charged down the hall, knocking each door open as he passed. [Not here,] he thought each time he opened the door to nothing. Then he came to the last door in the hall. Knowing she was in there he knocked at the door, not wanting to intrude.

"Sabine, I need to talk to you," he said kindly through the door. He wanted to prove to her that isn't why he hired her. In fact he wanted to make her realize she was like his sister, in a very good way. [She needs a family, someone who truly cares about her,] he thought to himself as he knocked on the door. [And it's going to be me.]

For a second Coteshi sat outside her room, staring blankly at her door. He couldn't walk away, but he couldn't bring himself to enter her room without permission either. [She left the door open for you, go in,] he told himself in his mind. Slowly he pushed her door open, and felt his heart drop when he saw her. It was then he knew what he had to do, and he walked over to her bed, sitting on the edge.

Speaking softly he told her, "You've lived with this for four years, but you shouldn't have to live with it any longer. It's horrible what they did to you, and I can understand why you'd think I hired you for similar reasons. But I didn't, I'm looking for a friend, someone to call my family." Carefully he laid his hand on the bed, his palm up turned, if she wanted she could take it in her own.

Comfortingly he said, "And you've had no one you'd truly want to call your family, am I right? Then let me make you a deal, I'll be your pretend brother, and treat you like a brother should. But only if you treat me like I am your brother, your brother that you care for." His smile reappeared as he said this, for some reason it made him happy. "And if you don't like that deal then you can stay here until you find a place of your own, but you don't have to work for me."
