Hmm, swords aren't exactly the best weapons. Well depending on which ones anyways.

The most effective would be something like a claymore and whatnot, but that is far to heavy for mostr normal people to carry on long journeys.

And trust me, the only true way to keep safe in a zombie apolapse would be to keep moving and never stay in one spot for to long. Otherwise you will eventually just get overrun.

Claymore weight = 3.5 lbs < Loaded Guns
Unless you've been chained down and haven't been able to move like veil. You should be able to carry it.
Secondly Claymores are anti-personal contrary to what COD has taught you, they don't go BOOM they send out little metal balls. Zombies don't feel pain unless you hit them in the head they coming at you. If you want them to go BOOM get some anti vehicle mines much more effective and heavier.

Also about this sword business, You don't quite realize they aren't made of silly putty. Their is muscle, flesh and, bones in there ( Albeit decomposing) Unless you can really put force on these guys the neck is your only option.

Swords do help a bit because overtime there will be less bullets, and unless you can figure out how to keep a weapons factory open after zombies arise, you're screwed. So using things that don't need to be reloaded, or are unusable after one or so uses, is a much idea.

Bullets vanishing will literally take longer than your life time. SImply put unless you have every survivor teleport to a ditch and drop every bullet they find there and then blow it up. They won't disappear on your watch.

As a side note. Pick up the casing you fire. Reuse them. Learn to make casting molds. All is takes is a bit of smelting and nit picking.

Good point. Didn't think of that. sweatdrop But still keeping something handy in case you lose your gun/s is a good idea. But like you said zombies are not as easy to kill as most would think.

I believe when the term Claymore was used previously it was meant the sword, which is generally larger than the average male.

I see, well of its larger than most average men, I can't imagine anyone having it let alone being able to use it. Unwieldy, takes up space, bad idea.

the problem with relying on swords is this, swords are plentiful but the thing is... 90% are for display and would shatter in combat. best mele options are tools: bats, crowbars, sledge hammers, shovels, etc. something that could be a weapon but also a tool would be practical. make your melee weapon your primary unless using a crossbow. guns run out of ammo and make a lot of noise, noise attracts zombies. A crossbow can be highly lethal at long ranges and make little to no noise. the ammo is also retrievable and they can be easy to acquire before an outbreak occurs.

If you are okay with getting up close and personal with the undead, you could use knives. No ammo, no noise, easy to carry, and you can get them anywhere...

It is okay and probably more fun but there is the chance of bites.

True but there is less of chance to miss at close range....

Unless it has knowledge in combat then you're screwed. Still close range with an ax or a baseball bat would be fun.
Edit: Why would a zombie have knowledge in combat!?!? It's brain is rotting or dead. Stupid me. Of course it can always be a super zombie.

A Super Zombie would be scary, but if you could kill it that would be fun...
