Beams struck the Liger's dark flank, bouncing off and inflicting a bit of damage. It was as though a thorn had sank into a lion's sensitive nose to get its attention; the predator swung its massive head around to locate the Helcat. The cloak was down, and its target was in plain sight. The Shadow Fox was dismissed once more; Mordecai knew that neither zoid would really put up a decent match, the Helcat had simply been the one who he had originally focused on. And now the Liger was willing to obey its pilot, taking off once more and circling around to charge near the Helcat. As the fox's cry pierced the night, the Liger lashed its tail in annoyance, pushing off the ground with all fours so the Vulcan shots could hit the ground instead of its ankles.

The Hiblit opened fire again, bullets streaming in a messy yet incredibly wide range towards the enemy zoid. If he hit, there'd be no way that the thing could cloak itself--not for a second. And by then, he would have hammered it with even more hits, making the effects last even longer. That was what made the Hiblit a truly fearsome weapon, despite the massive damage it inflicted. Eyes gleaming, the Liger raced in dizzy circles about the Helcat, continuing to open fire. The zoid was more of a physical type, ripping enemies open and clubbing them with its powerful horn.

Weaving an intricate pattern as it hurtled around at probably 300 km/hr, Mordecai kept a careful eye on the Shadow Fox. He wasn't going to risk getting attacked from behind while attempting to desecrate the Helcat. Claws dug into the earth, turning it over as the zoid stabilized itself so it wouldn't run out of control. Time to see what hit, and what he had to do next in order to bring it down permanently.

The Helcat's shield was once more activated, but as it shimmered into being, a burst of fire from the Liger's Hiblit pattered on the ground around them. One, two, then more of the shells slammed into Helcat, knocking the feline to it's belly and causing the shield to flicker, then die. The Helcat gave a yowl, or it's version thereof, as the barrage continued, before trickling off and leaving the Liger to inspect the damage.

Amerin jammed the controls forward, and the Helcat, lurching slightly, regained it's footing. It's armor was massively pitted and blackened from the Hiblit shells, but it was still more than willing to fight. It growled again, causing Amerin to chuckle--most would be considering surrender at this point, but the pair was still enjoying the battle. The Stealth Shield was out, perhaps permanantly, but as the Helcat growled again, Amerin caught a glimps of a billow of smoke. The Shadow Fox. Apparently, the fool hadn't gotten out when Amerin had told him to. Well, it was no matter of his now.

But he had provided cover, which could be useful, and Amerin was nothing if not resourseful. With a flick of a switch, the infared was activated, and the Helcat sped into the cloud of darkness.

Meanwhile, the fox dipped back into its smoke, pretty much disappearing now that its camouflage could be enabled. The vulcan tucked itself tightly against the fox's back as the shells began to fly. The fox continued to race along, Neco listening and watching hard as the things cut through. He dodged most, and jumped over the rest, skidding along the dirt with some rather sloppy but efficient maneuvers. He hadn't bought this particular zoid, after all, he'd won it for best amateur piloting skills. All the while, not a sound was made thanks to the baffling system. Useless, though, wasn't it? Supposedly the Energy Liger possessed a heat radar as well.

And then the one of the Hiblit bullets glanced off of the fox's back right flank, sending it spinning in a full 360. If he hadn't dug the anchors into the ground at the last moment, he would have surely gone over. More waves from the bullets rippled just where he had once stood, but he was too far to make anymore of a reaction than just shudder slightly. The whole flank on that side was almost fully blown up. The hind leg that belonged to it was just working by the huge bolt-like part that connected it to the rest of the body. One more hit and it'd be undoubtedly a three-legged fox. Did it mind?

The fox's jaws parted slightly as Necrofarious moved the Vulcan for a decent hit for the moment it'd have to be still; a sort of cocky little grin if one used their imagination. A second? That'd give him twenty shots. Twelve homed in on the Hiblit gun, because it was most threatening at the moment. Five were sent in a divided path towards the upper leg where the Double Pulsar rested in hopes of staggering it off its path from reaching the Helcat. As pompous as Amerin was being, Necrofarious was still looking to help him out the best he could.

"That's some impressive armor you have, Helcat, but I'll be watching the guns now. I suggest you get close where it can't get at you with them. You're small, too. Have you thought of getting up beneath it?" He suggested in that dark tone of his while the Shadow Fox slipped back into its cloak of smoke and darted forward. Speed decrease: 260km Necrofarious urged his zoid around the Liger's side, Vulcan spitting at the Hiblit from several angles before it pressed itself back against the fox's back so as not to overheat and not to be an easy target. Now if the EL didn't want to be attacked from behind, it was just going to have to play the fox's game and follow.

When the Helcat stumbled due to a direct hit, the Liger roared in triumph, alternating its course to bring it directly upon the little zoid. However, it had managed to slip off into the thick smoke, making it virtually impossible to see. The Liger, though amazing in its own right, did not possess any of the stealth skills that these other zoids had. It had never needed them. Mordecai urged the zoid to simply dart around the smoke for now, cutting dangerously close to it at times, but never embedding itself fully into the heart of the stuff. True, he'd probably hit something if the Energy Liger went berserk in there...but then again, he might not.

The Hiblit had stopped firing now; he didn't see the need to waste any excess bullets at the moment. Although it was useful to spit fifty of them out at a second, Mordecai was contented to wait. For now, at least. That smoke couldn't last forever, and if he had managed to hit the fox, there was a slim chance that he had disabled its ability to produce smoke. Bullets suddenly shot from the smoke, and Mordecai jerked hard on the Liger's controls, forcing it to stop and pivot about. Yes, he had managed to protect that Hiblit, taking all twelve of the shells on the zoid's heavily protected chest. Even so, the damage was painful; the armor had suffered slightly, and, while still intact for the best, holes marked where the bullets had sank in. Since it had moved to the side, the other bullets pattered harmlessly into the dirt, and one managed to graze the side of the Double Pulsar's second barrel. No serious damage.

Enraged, the beast threw back its head, jaws opening wide as it howled its fury. The teeth sparked, beginning to gleam with energy. If the Liger picked up at full speed, they'd feel those fangs upon them shortly. And with twenty percent more power than a Strike Laser Claw...? The result would be nasty and brutal. Mordecai could feel the thing straining to go after the fox. Fine. The horn and claws were charged once more, and before the fox's other shots could reach them, he gunned it. 345km/hr, the Liger's top speed. It shot into the smoke, head lowered slightly so that anything in the way would be impaled. Then, bursting out the other side, the Liger swerved and darted back into the smoke. It wouldn't be long before he struck something; the ferocity of the Liger would be sated soon.

The Helcat, secure for the moment, prowled through the cloud of smoke, allowing Amerin to run a quick diagnostic check. The Hiblit shells had done more damage than he'd originally thought; the armor around the blast area was cracked and shattered, and a few of the bullets had hit the left back leg, severely damaging one of the hydraulics, causing the Helcat to have a noticable limp and decrease in speed. On the upside, however, the electric surge from the bullets had dissipated, and the cloaking could be used once more.

The infared, much to Amerin's satisfaction, was working perfectly. The Shadow Fox, while bright usually, was nothing compared to the small blaze that indicated the Energy Liger, and the Helcat didn't show up at all. But right now, Amerin was more concerned with moving in for another attack.

"Getting under it would be a great idea, Shadow Fox, if it's didn't have those cursed claws to shear a Zoid to ribbons." Still, he might be able to get close enough to do a good amount of damge with the Beam Cannons; if the cloaking was up and the Liger was still.

Unfortunately, a small spot of gold in the heavy smoke caught his eye, and he wheeled the Helcat around when he realized what it was. The Energy Liger, claws and horn outstretched, was leaping into the cloud at a pace that the Helcat couldn't match. Veering off to the right, Amerin once again activated the cloaking and sped from the darkness. The Liger darted out from the other side, only to turn and rush back in, obviously hoping to impale a haphazard Zoid. As it emerged once more, something almost unnoticable caught Amerin's attention.

Flow valves, running in two arcs on the Liger's back. They looked like they fed into the energy system, and if they did, taking them out might limit the SLC and charging the horn. Amerin grinned, then flipped to the com.

"If you get a chance, aim for the intake tubes on the Liger's back--if they disable the SLC, I might have a chance of getting under it." he said, turning the Helcat again, to aim the beam cannons and the machine guns. It would be hard to aim at the target, for it was moving quickly, but Amerin fired a long, sweeping barrage at the Zoid's general area, and prayed they hit.
PostPosted: Wed Feb 15, 2006 7:31 pm

"Intake tubes?" Neco repeated to himself, peering into the darkness as the Shadow fox rocked itself side to side, trying to keep limber and anticipative as it searched for any sign of the liger. By the loud sounds, it seemed to be charging about in its blindness. Was the pilot really all hot air? "I can't see them in this smoke." He admitted to Amerin.

Behind! The radar squealed at him as the EL spun about. The fox dived almost desperately forward, like a trouble-making child trying to outrun a track star. He was going to die if he didn't move out of its path soon. The horn would go right through the fox. Necrofarious' mind wasn't present, but his instincts were on overtime. Sweaty fingers tapped the controls with utmost urgency as his zoid sped forward at 260km, only surviving because he was some odd meters ahead to begin with. The smoke was beginning to clear as well, making the horns all the brighter.

Net. He could stop it with the net. The tail centered itself, opened, and fired the shell after a milisecond or two of aiming. Since the enemy was directly behind him, he really didn't have to aim, just lift the aim a little higher than usual. Now the liger was a huge zoid, so something was bound to catch, whether it be a horn or one of the guns. Maybe it'd catch under the feet or brush the back, but even then it was going to shock on contact. Hopefully the EL wouldn't see it until it was too late now that its head was ducked, but that was a false hope. Neco had already decided that he was dying, and it would just all be in due time. Whether he took Amerin with him or tried to buy his escape was the question.

Unknowingly, he'd ran right towards the Helcat, but now he'd move himself out of the way of the EL's path. The vulcan blazed to his right side as much as it could. Without the anchors on, he very well sent himself careening through the air to the left. He only had time to tuck the gun against his back before the fox flipped itself over and scraped its left shoulder hard against the plains, rolled over onto its back, then over to its stomach with its legs tucked. Since the ground was rather soft here, there was minimal damage to the armor, but the jostling had frozen the controls. Neco let them slip through his fingers, gripping his head as his body gave a violent heave. He was finished. There was no way he had the time to recover if the net had missed.

"Please, run." He told Amerin, though not knowing if the com still worked. "This was never meant to be fun and games. Don't throw your life away for something so stupid. It'll probably be distracted by me because I'm visible."

The Helcat stilled in surprise, both pilot and Zoid watching as the massive black terror fell, slowly, heavily, to the ground. The controls shook slightly from the resulting collapse. It was a tense few seconds--Amerin heard the com crackle, but tuned it out, waiting to see what had become of the Energy Liger. He knew it hadn't been CSF'd, it was far too powerful for that.

And sure enough, the Liger was slowly getting to it's feet, though it's manner puzzled Amerin--the Zoid seemed to be in shock, as though it had never concieved that it might actually be injured before. It stood, almost trembling, jaws wide. Motionless. The dim glow of the charged weapons showed some of the damage--the Hiblit was snapped from the weight of the impact, metal buckled and twisted, and the red, hellish glow had died from one of it's eyes. The com crackled indistinctly, but Amerin ignored. His focus was on the still Zoid.

And then, the Liger erupted. It launched itself forward in a flurry of motion and rage. A scream escaped into the air, so loud that Amerin winced. The Helcat spun in a desperate attempt to distance itself from the Liger, when he heard the Pulsar Cannon rattle off a barrage of fire. The shots were aimed at the Fox, who was prone in the dirt.

Damned fool. Get up or you'll be killed.

Despite his train of thought, Amerin didn't really care one way or another--he only felt disapproval; if the pilot was inexperianced, he should've gotten away when he could. But, he supposed, the Fox was about as close as an ally as Amerin considered anybody, and it would be rude to allowed him to be slaughtered while Amerin just watched.

Mind made up, the Helcat skidded to a halt, kicking up a unnoticable cloud of dust. And then, he fired. Twin beams of gold energy streaked towards the Liger, a blatant attempt at capturing the machine's attention. Another switch was flipped, and the cloaking fell, leaving the Helcat visible--and bristling. It was still enjoying the fight, damaged as it was.

"Please, please... Get up." Came the whisper in the black of the Fox's cockpit. Everything was dark, save for the small, blinking screen of the control panel. To the outside world, the Shadow Fox seemed to have laid down to sleep... or die, as things were turning out. Necrofarious was trembling hard in the first symptoms of his character breaking. He was beginning to come back to the real world, to a very twitchy and unstable body. "C'mon... I don't... want to die like this!"

A hard shove to the controls. The Energy Liger was tuned out for the most part. From the rumble of earth he knew the behemoth had fallen, and he really didn't care at the moment. Where was Amerin? Was the Helcat still alright? Neco craned his head forward, but it did nothing. He couldn't see it with both the night and the cloak as its camouflage.

"Get up. I need..." He pursed his lips, swallowing a bit. "We need to battle. Please..." An almost desperate nudge to the movement controls. A soft hum interrupted his pleas, electricity seeming to fizz in short spurts like contained laughter. And there was light, spreading like a virus from the main display panel out to all those random buttons. The Energy Liger bellowed, the Shadow Fox dug its claws into the dirt and coiled its gears, and the Helcat made for a better range.

Fool? Excuse me, but who had leveled the Liger? Perhaps his methods were quite foolhardy, but none of them were all that sloppy. He said he'd take out the guns, and he'd done half of that job as well as a bonus. The Liger was blind in that one eye and it was charging forward in a rage. The Helcat was still intact, but what else had it done? Started this whole mess...

His zoid launched itself forward at the beginning of the charge, tossing up chunks of dirt in its wake. The fox gave its call to the Liger, stumbled around to its blind side, and disappeared under its optical camouflage. Necrofarious twisted his head around as he heard a gun blast different from the one he'd come to know as the double pulsar, pink eyes widening slightly in their surprise at the sight of the Helcat, being bold even though it surely didn't stand much of a chance in its weakened state. The Fox shifted its shoulder unusually high on its next step, jostling the young man. His eyes returned to their normal state after that, turning his focus back to the task ahead. He'd keep that little stunt in his head for now, store it away to ponder over later. But there was nothing to think about, right? What he'd done for Amerin should be repaid somewhat in kind... Necrofarious just was, honestly, not used to the sentiment.

Now the fox was stalking around behind the Liger, trying to pinpoint a good place to attack.

The teen was leaning forward in his seat, experiencing the closest thing to human emotion in a long, long while. Hatred. Jaws were clamped shut, eyes wild as he anticipated the sweet scream of metal being torn into shreds underneath the Liger's unforgiving claws. But as Mordecai realized that the fox was up, trying to move, he slammed one fist into the controls in anger, earning another booming roar from his zoid. Gunfire--to his left. The Liger tilted itself upward, soaring high so the beams could just barely miss its unprotected belly. Wings snapped shut, and the zoid dropped a few feet, making the ground shake from the impact. But it wasn't idle for long; the Liger spun, claws ripping holes into the dirt as it propelled itself, completely ignoring the threat of the fox. One good hit would take it down, of that, both pilot and zoid were certain.

The Helcat seemed to be mocking the Liger, revealing itself so foolish with the zoid bounding towards it. It could put its cloak back on, but between the constant fire of the Double Pulsar and the Liger's unnerving speed, it would get found quickly. The moonlight was strong, and Mordecai would be searching for any blur that gave away the Helcat's position. The Liger was moving on pure, hellbent instinct now, ready to dart after the Helcat if it chose to run. And if that did happen, well...the smaller zoid could not surpass the other's speed.

As the fox's call echoed into the once-silent night, a vicious roar echoed in the Liger's throat. It was telling the fox that they were not through, that it could not run forever and no matter what it did, it would not be able to protect this little cat anymore. Not unless it wanted to die first. Wings flared out once more, giving the Liger another boost of ferocious speed. It could use these apendages continuously, just not for more than twenty-four seconds at a time.

The Helcat stood, tail lashing with barely contained glee, in the path of the raging Liger as it turned towards them. The first pulsar blasts passed to close for comfort, and the Helcat rumbled it's defiance. The white Zoid, with typical feline disdain, dissappeared once more. Both pilot and Zoid knew that they would be found if they tried to run away--the Liger was too hell-bent on revenge to safely escape, even if Amerin wanted to.

Instead, under the limited saftey of the cloaking, the Helcat stole towards the Liger's right side, where the Hiblit was snapped and, hopefully, useless. There, maybe, they could turn the Beam Cannons onto the lightly armored underside before darting away.

However, as the Helcat slipped nearer to the Liger, at an angle that would bring the speeding beast nearer to them, two of the energy blasts from the Double Pulsars hit their target. They struck the tiny zoid harshly--one hit home on the Helcat's back, blasting into the senor equipment and shield, and the other struck the feline's leg. Both shots sent the Zoid into a stumbling roll, with the Helcat screeching in pain.

In the cockpit, Amerin's white-knuckled grip on the controls slipped for a brief moment, and with a shudder, it rolled once more. With a dull thump and a sickening snap, Amerin felt a vague sense of discomfort--until a dull roar of pain rushed through his left arm. It was broken. A violent litany of muttered, colorful curses issued forth, and the Helcat settled, remanents of it's armor smoking, into the dust, completely exposed, it's injured leg unable to support any weight.

s**t.

Leave it, said the first instinct, sending a small ripple up his spine. This one clearly wanted to die in the heat of battle. Well he'd get his wish here, wouldn't he? Still, Neco found himself watching the Helcat out of the corner of his eye as he positioned the laser cannon and fired at the EL from behind. He'd first aim for the base of those hind legs where there was only a set churning motion for the legs and the laser might be able to do some decent damage. From the back, the legs could only move back and forth so he wouldn't have to worry about whether it'd hit or not. It should hit unless the thing moved out of the way and, with new barrage of fire that spread in a large line across where the liger could possibly just maneuver its legs to escape fire.

No, he did not think he could get to the Helcat at this decreased speed he was running, but he may be able to attract attention away from it. If the liger simply tried to make small cuts with its legs to stay on path, it was most likely going to get hit. These weren't bullets, so no matter how rapid the leg movement, the laser should make an impact. Now, the EL could choose to jump and do that little wing maneuver it had been cleverly performing thus far, but Necrofarious and the fox were waiting for it. Should it decide to jump(or even hop for that matter), it'd give a clear enough shot to the underbelly of the beast and he'd take it. He certainly didn't want to hurt the zoid, but he wanted it away from the Helcat. If only for a moment so that he could cover the broken zoid with his own.

The Energy Liger screamed once more, wings flaring, massive paws ripping into the dirt as it snarled aggressively towards the Shadow Fox. It wasn't going to hesitate, not this time. Charging its horn up, the massive beast flew at the Shadow Fox, the pilot hunching forward in his seat, eyes wild, teeth bared, as though he had gone just as insane as his zoid. It lunged towards the downed Helcat for a moment, scraeming at Mordecai to let it kill, let it mangle this tiny, insignificent speck that had hurt it so very badly. Fluid continued to drip from its ruined eye, splattering roughly on the ground as in mid-leap, the Energy Liger was yanked away from the fallen zoid. Later, later they could smash it--right now, the Shadow Fox was Mordecai's main concern. How dare they.

Wings snapping open, the beast howled with fury, rushing at the fox, preparing to slam it with that curing blade on the back of its neck. The Charged Sledgehammer Hiblit. Ohh, if it hit, Mordecai would revel, wanting nothing more than to hear the Fox and its pilot scream with pain.
