it's timey-wimy!!!!

It's extremely Timey--Wimey. As is Moffat in general. (Perhaps not a co-incidence that the very term 'timey-wimey' origionated in one of his episodes.)

River also has blatant ties and parallels to Anne Niffenegger's (sp?) 'The Time Traveler's Wife'.

One thing that strikes me though is the repeated mention of 'knows more than the Doctor'. I don't buy it. Knowing something he doesn't is NOT the same as knowing more than him. And when you think about it, an omniscient Doctor makes for some really boring television.

I love River's energy. And she has some truly wonderful moments. Not entirely thrilled with the guns, and sometimes Stephen seems to rush the storyline. But... yeh.

EXPLAIN!

Earlier posts in the thread object beause River "knows more than the Doctor". She may know certain details about things he hasn't faced yet, but he also knows A LOT MORE details about both things she hasn't faced yet (for example the events of Silence in the Library) and things she will never encounter. Everyone has _different_ experiences and knowledge. 'Different' isn't 'more'.

I have to agree with you on that point. Even though she has Time Lord DNA, I truthfully haven't seen much in terms of Time Lord knowledge from River outside of learning how to use Timey-Wimey tech like fly the TARDIS and the distress beacon from the season finale. If she truly had a Time Lord brain, she would be on the same level as the Doctor in knowing things as he does. I don't think anyone outside of another older Time Lord would know more than the Doctor in my opinion.

Even most Time Lords IMO don't come close.

We haven't seen many in the new series (wiped out in the time war and all). The Master is supposed to be a genius and Rassillon is a LEGEND.

But when they've appeared in numbers in the old episodes (such as whenever we've gotten the rare look at gallifrey) they have by-and-large been every bit as bumbling and foolish as you would expect of a bunch of ceremony-obsessed intellectuals on Earth. (Say a college faculty.)
