Was he that apparent? Of course, he quickly remember that she, too, was feral. She could probably smell the anxiety emminating from him. He threw a smirk on his face as he walked with her into the kitchen. "Well...it may be confidential, but not to you, since you are included..." He said, still not sure how to break the news to her.

Grabbing a couple of glasses from a cubbard, he walked to the fridge to pour himself a glass of orange juice. As he swirled the carton around as he stared across the kitchen towards her. "Have you made any new friends in the past few days?" he said, still trying calming conversation to start off with. "I remember you talking in your native tongue with someone a few days ago...what was her name?" He twirled the cap off the cartoon and poured himself a glass, and gestured towards hers to see what she would like.

"Me?" It was more of a reaction that a question, really. She wasn't sure what sort of confidential situation about herself that could have arisen within the past week. There were no problems she was having, at least none that she knew of. At most, the only thing Shiori could think of was a change of room assignment, and she didn't think that it was an overly personal matter, nor something that would warrant Luke's unease.

Unless perhaps he would no longer be helping her get accustomed to the campus..? The thought made her nervous. She was just starting to get to know him! Was it because they hadn't really met up at all during the week, that that lack of contact was grounds to end their 'contract' or whatever it was called?

No. There had to be some other reason. She didn't think Xavier would do something like that.

But what else could the problem me? Worried still, she remained silent as she followed him into the kitchen, feeling pensive, and waited to hear him continue on the matter. Though as he poured himself a glass of juice, it seemed he did not want to face the subject right away. That only made her worry about the matter more. Was it that serious of a problem that he would avoid telling her for as long as possible? And had he actually known of the situation earlier, perhaps even after they had met, but had been purposely avoiding her because he didn't have the strength to tell her immediately?

"Ah, yes. Elektra-san," she replied, trying to keep her fears out of her voice. At any other time she would have loved to talk to him about how she was getting settled, but the personal problem about her hovered over her mind. She wanted to know what it was, but she also did not want to force him. If talking helped ease him into voicing the matter, then she'd go along with it. "She is the only student I talk to on regular. I have some friends in my classes, but we are not close much." she answered, not bothering to really elaborate. At his silent inquire on food, she declined a glass of juice, but did grab the fixings for a deli sandwich.

He was so shocked at her name that he almost dropped the carton of OJ. "Elektra?" he replied, slightly stunned. It made sense now why she was on the team...that was the girl who was getting along so well with Shiori! It all made sense!

This would make breaking the news to her a lot easier. Not the part about Ares, of course...but that could come in later.

"How would you like an opportunity to spend more time with her?" he asked calmly, putting the OJ away and joining her by the sandwitch materials. "Would you have any objections to that? I'll be there to...as would one other..."

As he mentioned the one other, a familiar smell wafted into his nose through the air. Great...Ares was approaching the kitchen. Maybe he would pass by, and Luke woldn't have to deal with him just yet.

Surprised by his reaction, Shiori froze for a second as she pulled out two slices of bread from the loaf, her attention fixed on him. "Yes.." she confirmed with a small, slow nod as she tied the bread back up. It was a little more than confusing to watch him change from nervous, to startled, and then have him finally calm down. Did Elektra have something to do with her problem? And was she somehow a good component in it? As Luke neared her after depositing the juice back in the fridge, she glanced at him a few times as she layered a few slices of meat and cheese on her sandwich, waiting for him to continue.

At his inquiry to visiting Elektra more, as well as mentioning he and one other person would be around too, Shiori stopped again to stare at him in confusion. She would enjoy spending more time with Elektra, and even Luke, too, but adding this other person in to make a group-type thing left her feeling lost. Was she missing something? Some sort of fieldtrip perhaps, one she hadn't gotten word of?

"I guess not.." she answered. "But I'm confused. Is something going on?"

Luke sighed once again as the scent of Ares approached the kitchen, becomming stronger. It looked like he would be comming in regardless. "Xa..." he started, before correcting himself. "Professor Xavier would like to...put you onto a team. It will be a team-building exercise, teach students how to work together, get along in a team environment, and help control your powers." He paused a bit to try to guage her response, but the approach of Ares made him continue rather quickly.

"The team will consist of myself as leader, you, your friend Elektra and..." he paused a bit, still quite nervous at how she might take it. Did she even know him? Hopefully not..." A young man by the name Ares..."

It was at this point that Ares rounded the corner and headed into the kitchen. Luke had timed it so that he wasn't close enough to hear his name being mentioned. As he entered the room, Ares noted the occupants. Great, he thought to himself, just who I wanted to see...

He ignored the two as he headed straight to the cabinets. Taking out a small box of pasta, he took it over to the stove and produced a pot. HE filled it with water and put it over to the stove to bring it to a boil.

Luke was silent as he watched Ares move around the kitchen. Would he bring up the team now? Or would he wait until later?

Ares seemed to be paying the two no mind, or at least was attempting to. He could feel eyes upon him, and did his best to just ignore the feeling as he grasped the handle of the pot, just waiting for it to finish reaching a heat level to bring it to a boil and he could just cook his pasta and leave.

"A... team?" she echoed back, still confused. That certainly was not what she had been expecting in the slightest. After barely getting fully adjusted to life at the Institute, Xavier was now placing her into a regiment. It felt a little... hasty. Though, maybe it was commonplace for teams to form. She still didn't know every little workings of the school, and forming a team like the one she had been assigned to could have been normal protocol.

But a team-thing was not a transfer or a family death, or anything else negative that it seemed like he was going to bring up, and so the unease she held in her body faded out as she exhaled her next breath, a vague smile replacing her previously uncertain expression. Honestly, was confronting her about that was what had made him so tense? Though, it did seem like a bigger deal than she first though, she supposed. She would be on a team with three others, and she would have certain responsibilities as a member of that team. There might've been some catch she wasn't getting, something that was a little more beyond what she pictured this team to be like.

At least she knew everyone in it. Well, except for the 'Ares' person.

Though, she didn't see herself as being able to contribute too much in team effort. At least not in the way of perfecting her mutations. Hers were very simple and required no sort of control that she knew of. She didn't see much of how she would benefit from this situation. "It sounds... interesting?" She really didn't know what to make of it. It made her feel slightly special to be placed on a team, particularly one where she knew and got along well with most of the other members, but at the same time it meant more responsibility on her part. She still was juggling to get herself situated in her classes; adding on an 'extracurricular project' would only serve to stretch her concentration thinner.

Shiori's attention shifted momentarily to the boy that walked into the kitchen, instinctively inspecting him with her sense. Tall, vaguely familiar, red hair, and carried a good amount of metal. While she could not come up with his name, or if she had officially met him, Shiori was pretty sure she had seen him around once or twice. But Luke seemed to gain another layer of anxiety when the boy walked in. It was clearly noticeable in his scent, and the shift caused her to return her focus to the feral male. He wasn't quite nervous, pensive might've been a better term. Her brows furrowed in concern.

"Luke-san?" she asked uncertainly, her underlying tone inquiring his temperament.

Luke sighed a bit, letting go of a little of his anxiety. At least Shiori was taking this pleasantly. There was still the matter of Ares, however. "The good news is, despite the fact that you know most of the members...it looks like you'll get a chance to meet your final teammate one now..."

The sound of metal clanging on metal rang out through the kitchen. "Excuse me?" Ares said, obviously paying enough attention to the conversation to realize that he was being talked about. "I seriously hope that you were not referring to me..."

Again, Luke sighed. He closed his eyes, momentarily, trying to figure out the best way to approach this situation. He was, unfortunately, drawing a blank. "Ares...Professor Xavier wishes me to tell you that he has initiated a group/team-building excercise. You are to be on a team with myself, Shiori, who is here with us, and a fourth...Elektra."

Ares slowly turned to face the older mutants. "No....really...you are joking, right?" Luke turned his head to face the younger boy, and Ares could tell by his facial expression that he was very serious. "Oh god dammit, this is so stupid..." he let out with a grumbling mumble. His brow furrowed in anger as he reached behind him to blindly move the stove off the fire. "No...I refuse. I'm not gonna be on some stupid team...I do fine on my own. I'm not a team person...."

"Look...it's not like I want you on my team."

"It's YOUR TEAM? Now I definately am out..."

"Look, it's not your decision...or mine. If you have a problem with it, go see Ch....Professor Xavier."

Narrowing his eyes, Ares merely responded "Fine..." before storming out of the room and towards Xavier's office.

As the boy left, Luke visibly slouched and went to sit down. That boy was going to be the death of him...

((Ho, crap. I totally did not realize how long it had been since you posted. x_x;; ))

Shiori jumped at little at the clamor of metal, drawing her arms closer to her chest, one hand holding her completed sandwich. She had little else to do than watch the two males... converse, her attention ping-ponging back and forth between the two. Tension was high. It became very clear to Shiori that the two of them did not get along well. Luke remained as calm as he could, but he definitely was not pleased with the situation. The other boy just did not like being thrown into a group structure, particularly one where Luke gave the orders. Shiori remained silent through their remarks, afraid the other boy would turn on her if she tried to interject.

The boy left in a huff, dissatisfied by the turn of events. A moment's pause, and Luke went to sit at the bar. Ears drawn downward, Shiori followed him with her eyes. A second or two passed before she set down her sandwich on the counter and walked over to stand next to where Luke sat, careful not to approach too closely. He seemed to need a moment to collect his thoughts and perhaps a bit of composure, and she did not want to invade his personal space. "...Ares, was it?" she asked gently, head tilted lightly to the side as she peered down at him.

Sighing, Luke gazed wearily at the door that Ares had stormed out of. That boy was going to be the death of him. He really dreaded the next few days, weeks....and really hoped that it didn't stretch into months, or he might just rise up and slay the boy.

His attentions were snapped back into the present at Shiori's voice. "...Ares, was it?" she had asked. He looked up at her, a smile creeping across his face.

"Yes...unfortunately, it IS Ares." He sighed again and stood up to get some food for himself. "Now that THAT lovely encounter is over, perhaps we can get something to eat? And afterwards we can try to find our last team member..."

She nodded silently as he stood, all right with the decision to eat and then find Elektra. She still had her sandwich sitting on the counter. "There's still some meat and cheese, and probably some spreads to make a sandwich from..." Shiori suggested, her voice trailing off. She was unsure of what sort of things he ate, or if he was even in the mood for such a simple meal. Though with Ares' not so quite pleasant encounter, she thought he might want to get meeting Elektra over with as soon as possible, and a sandwich was easy to make and transportable.

Returning to the counter, Shiori picked up her sandwich and tore off a bit, mildly watching Luke as she chewed. "Elekra-san will be better, I'm sure." she added as an afterthought once she swallowed, trying to lift the negative air of Ares' reaction.

In a thoughtful silence, Luke threw together a sandwich and put in deep bite into it. He had completely ignored up to now the fact that he was really hungry. He did, though, make sure to remember to leave some of the meat there. Shuddering in throught at the time he had eaten all the meat (thus, leaving none for Logan), he quickly put it out of his mind when Shiori spoke up.

"Elekra-san will be better, I'm sure."

A smirk appeared on his face as she added the "-san" at the end of Elektra's name. She still used many of her mannerisms from Japan, and Luke found it quite cute. It also brought a smile to his face, but he always had to catch himself from laughing or anything. Didn't want to to give off the wrong impression or anything.

"I sure hope so, Shiori. I don't think I could stand having two hot-heads on the team. That would not lead to a pretty sight..." He laughed fully before continuing on his conquest of his sandwich.

She nodded and took another bite of her sandwich. "It would be very difficult to be a team if members are always arguing." she agreed, continuing to eat. She was still uneasy with the team situation, but if Xavier thought it was a good idea, then she figured she should at least give it a try. After all, she could back out later if it came down to it. Or at least, she assumed she could.

Of course, now that she thought about it, Shiori really didn't know much of what they were supposed to do as a team other than to train with their powers. "Ne, Luke-san, what exactly are to do in this team? How do we train specifically, and will we meet every day?" It was going to be very difficult for her to keep up if they had to practice too often, and she should back out before everything got started.

"I'm not totally sure about the organization and preperations that are required for our team. I assume that the Professor will give me more instructions after I gather you all and alert you onto everything."

He quickly finished his meal, anxious to just get this all over with. "Do you happen to now where Elektra is, Shiori?"

(total crap, but i'm just not in any sort of Luke mood..maybe I'll bring Ares in to interact with shiori and elektra for a while....)
PostPosted: Sat May 06, 2006 6:52 pm

"Oh.." was her tentative response. Having Luke not even clear on the objectives for the team did nothing to ease her concerns about time/work management. How was she supposed to asses the weight and involvement of the team if there was no course of action planned out yet? Though, Xavier seemed like a man who made sure everything went along smoothly, so perhaps she should trust in his ideas more.

Finishing off her sandwich, Shiori took a moment to think. She barely socialized with Electra much more than she had with Luke in the past week, so there wasn't really much to go on. "Ah, eeto.... She mentioned training in the morning one time I met with her, so.... maybe a big space?" she offered with an awkward, unsure expression. The information really did not feel all that helpful. There were a lot of large rooms on the campus that could be used to work out in, with the primary location being the gym. "But I know she does not like to be in busy places."

((Gods, that was horrible.))

Luke took a few sniffs of the air, seeking out a specific smell. The smell, of course, being that of electricity. Not many students here had power over that, so if he could just try to pinpoint any trace of it...

Catching a scent, he nodded to Shiori. "I think I caught a wiff of her...let's go."

***

Ares stood outside the door, shifting nervously from one foot to another. How dare he. HOW DARE HE! Why was he thrust into some random group...especially if that b*****d Luke was in it. He wouldn't stand for this. It was against his principles!

Knocking on the door, he got in a whole single knock before "Come in Ares..." He stopped mid-knock, suprised at first at the speediness of the Professor's response. Of course, after a moment of thought he remembered...stupid psychics.

As he entered, he noticed the Professor seated behind his desk, his fingers bridged together beneath his chin. It was time for Ares to give him a piece of his mind.

"I take it you have a problem with your latest assignment?"

Apparantly, Ares had given him a piece of his mind all too quickly. Of course, Ares hated not being able to say what he wanted. Stupid psychics...

"Please, please, say what is on your mind, Ares. I could here you from here when you spoke to Luke earlier..."

Ares opened his mouth to respond, then quickly shut it. His jaw clenching as he crossed his arms across his chest, he walked up to the chair on his side of the Professor's desk and sat down.

"Now, I'm sure you know this already...but I'm a loner. That's my thing. I don't need other people. I don't WANT other people. I can do anything I need done by myself, without the help of others. I doubt any time in the future I'll ever be part of, well, a team..." He took a deep breath, his eyes locked on the Professor.

The Professor merely nodded. "I appreciate your concerns, Ares. If you remember, one of the, well, several reasons your parents entrusted me with your care was to help improve your powers. To help you gain responsibility, to learn to use your powers to help people, instead of your own personal gain. Part of learning responsibility is leanring to work with others.

"One of the greatest gifts you can give someone is the sense that you will always be there for them, no matter one. It is also the greatest gift you can recieve. Even if you don't believe you need it, it's very comforting, and smart, to have someone at your back, to know that if trouble arises, you won't have to go it alone."

Ares was impressed at the speech, like it had been rehearsed. Again...stupid psychics. "Yeah, yeah, I get that...but..."

"Let me put it another way. This is a graded assignment here at the school. You can do it...or you may be released back to where you would be...before I took you in."

Once again, Ares went to open his mouth, but quickly shut it. Growling, he stood up, muttered "Yes sir..." and left the room.
