*Grins uncontrollably* Against all the odds, it happened. She's dead! Her son got cut down right in front of her, and she met the same fate soon after; best of all, it was all her fault! George R.R. Martin seems to have a habit of making all of his characters suffer in one way or another, and it paid off in spades this time! biggrin
Unfortunately, he also just killed off one that I'd grown rather fond of...a lot of people died in the span of a few chapters, actually. neutral

Sometimes I get a malicious satisfaction from reading a book where everyone dies.

I like to write stories like that every so often. It ends with "and then the hidden bomb went off and they all died." lol

It's amazing how a character pregnancy and an OOC decision about said pregnancy can make a very good fanfic turn into one that makes me want to puke. gonk
Really. Riza Hawkeye, one who is unfazed when shooting a born sentient person, getting squicked over the OPTION of flushing out an unsentient, unthinking, unfeeling blob of cells? Give me a ******** break. She's not the type to think, "Oh noze, I can't kill my BAYBEE."
It's a good fic. But the gushiness with her pregnancy makes me want to stab the author's eyes out. Especially since she's having little to no symptoms of it, a pretty miraculous thing for one of the hardest and most trying functions of the human body.

Anita from previously mention Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter novels might be knocked up. All that's actually known is from the first few preview chapters where she hasn't gotten her period is all "OHSHIT. OHSHIT. WHAT THE ******** AM I GOING TO DO". Makes sense, right?
Weeeeell, the readers apparently think it's GREAT thing.
She surely must be pregnant, even though she's only missed a period. And she'll definately keep it since she's Episcopalian and abortion is lyk so totally wrongz, even though she KILLS PEOPLE FOR A LIVING. The kid won't have any problems growing up, since it will be raised by it's 5+ daddies. It won't be bothered by it's mother constantly going out, killing s**t, and never being home. It won't end up dead because it's mother works as a necromancer and vampire slayer and, shock, has enemies who wouldn't mind killing a few people to hurt her. Maybe Anita will lay aside her life and just live as a suburban mother, and she'll totally enjoy parenthood, despite the fact it'd be TOTALLY NOT CANON. In sum: lalalalala la, everything will be alright because it's da BAYBEE.
If she's knocked up and keeps it, it's the straw that breaks the camel's back. The Mary Sue s**t, the sleeping around, the nonsensical changes in character and personality. ******** it, I'll read The Dresden Files. Dresden can't get pregnant. HA.

Sybex, if it's any consolation I promise that if the opportunity ever comes up in one of my books to have one of the characters murder a child/pregnant woman or something, I'll write it in just for you. ^^
But that really does suck about the character at hand though. I have yet to run across anything quite that egregious yet, thankfully. sweatdrop

I'm a big fan of a comic book series entitled Fables. It's about how fairy tale characters from various fantasy worlds are now living incognito in our "mundy" world in the secret community of "Fabletown," after having barely escaped the clutches of an unknown enemy referred to only as "The Adversary." It's a damn good comic, and has quickly joined alongside The Sandman and The Maxx to become one of my all-time favorites.
However....
Snow White (the deputy mayor of Fabletown) has recently gotten knocked up by Bigby Wolf (the big bad wolf in human form, now serving as sheriff of Fabletown) and is being examined by Dr. Swineheart when this transaction takes place:
Dr.: You can get dressed now. The pregnancy is coming along fine.
Snow: No, it isn't. Nothing is "fine" about it. It's going to ruin my life, my standing in the community and what's left of my reputation.
Dr.: If that's the way you feel about it, you do have options. This is the twenty-first century, after all.
Snow: Stop right there, Doctor Swineheart. Don't you dare finish that thought.
Dr.: But I only...
Snow: Have you forgotten how to tell your mundy and fable patients apart, or do you imagine I've gone native?
Dr.: I brought it up because it's obvious you're not happy about...
Snow: Since when is our happiness of primary consideration? Some of us are still governed more by duty and responsibility. Don't bring it up again, Doctor, if you want to remain part of Fabletown.
eek WTF!!?? And you know what? Even before this, I was never a big fan of Snow White anyway. She's a cold, pompous b***h who is constantly throwing her weight around and threatening people for the slightest transgression. Rose Red can totally take her in a fight anyday.

WHAT THE--?! at first I was pleasantly suprised how well she understood the negative consequences the pregnancy would have upon her life, that it would wreck it, and proud of the doctor for understanding and offering--then snowy goes and makes herself into a sub-moron. No wonder she's kept apart from normal humans. She looks human, but she's too stupid to get that title.

Somebody should smack the author. That may be a character speaking, but it's supposed to be a GOOD character speaking I do believe. I think there something to be said for the fact that she got impregnated by the big bad wolf though lol

You know, this whole thing reminds me a bit of that one Monty Python skit. The one where Michael Palin (I think) is reading from that book of fairy tales, and they all end up being perverted. Well, in particular, there was one character who "owned a shop under the magical tumtum tree in lollipop lane. There she sold contraceptives..."
Heh, I guess this particular Fabletown wasn't privileged enough to have that particular chain of shops. xp
