Tristan was about to respond to the woman's question when she fired a gob of spit towards his feet. His eyes followed the path of the spit before glancing back up at her, lifting an eye brow at her. "I asked because I was curious yet something tells me that you're going to be less than interested to share your story." Tristan sighed heavily before shaking his head. "Too bad, would have been cool to have a pirate friend." Tristan shrugged before turning around and walking towards the kitchen. He hadn't even taken three steps before he turned around, a almost embaroused smile on his face while his ireses cooled into a deep blue. "Oh! I almost forgot. I believe this is yours." With a flip of his hand the small puddle of spit lept off the floor and onto one of her leather boots with a satisfying splat. "Now you're half way to a spit shine." He said jokingly before he turned back towards the kitchen.

Phin glared at the guardian's back as he walked away from her, when the spit landed on her boot she stood up in one quick motion with her hand on her sword hilt ready to draw and go after him. Daryus suddenly stepped in front of her "Maybe we shouldn't draw too much attention to ourselves tonight" he looked into her eyes to emphasize his point. Phin ran her tongue across the top of her bottom teeth and stared back at him with an acid look before turning on her heel, she kicked her chair out of her way sending it crashing backwards, she then strode out of the bar into the still pouring rain. She clenched her teeth and fists trying to disperse the anger that seethed through her. She turned and strode up the street, having no destination in mind. The rain cooled her skin and temper by the time she reached the deserted market square. I probably wouldn't get into as much trouble if I could keep my temper in check better. She then laughed wickedly out loud and it echoed around the square back at her. Who am I kidding, I love it. She grinned and turned walking slowly back in the direction she had come.
Half way back to the bar Phin paused, listening through the rain, she had thought it was the echo of her footsteps against the cobblestones but it would be off beat sometimes with her own footfalls. The muffled footsteps continued a few seconds after she had stopped. Phin's mind was suddenly alert, someone was following her, at about 20 paces back. She moved to adjust her boots, checking the dagger that was hidden within strapped to her calf. She was soaked through from the rain, her clothing heavy and cold but the adrenaline that was pumping through her made her forget it. Continuing walking she listened carefully behind her, adjusting her stride a few times to confirm her suspicion. She didn't walk into the bar when she reached it but walked past it and around to the back. She headed for the barn where their horses were being housed, she sprinted to the back to the ladder to the hayloft climbing it quickly. She dropped to her belly at the edge of the loft and peered over watching the door, cursing herself for leaving wet boot marks luckily the seemed to blend with the muddy floor boards.
A shadow appeared in the doorway, pausing, examining the barn interior. Phin waited and watched, she didn't recognize the hooded figure even when it entered the barn and walked along the rows of stables checking each one. As the figure drew closer to the rear stables Phin noticed the boots, they were Daryus', Phin's eyes narrowed when he spoke out and confirmed her observation "I know you are in here Phin, come out, we need to talk" He paused waiting for a response. Phin weighed her options, she didn't know what he was up to but he was her second in command and that had to take some measure. She stood up silently and shifted to a position where she had a clear throw at him with her dagger if he tried something "What do you want Daryus?" Phin spoke clearly and coldly her words hanging in the air as he spun around his head swinging from side to side trying to locate her. "Just tell me what you want." She watched as Daryus clenched his fists "I want you out of the way, I am sick of following your every whim. After I kill you the men and I are going back to the ship, this is a wild goose chase, no one is going to find the dragons, there are other riches out there". Phin bristled at his words, her hand silently drawing her sword and one dagger. She surveyed the jump down, it wasn't too high, she'd fallen from higher. She jumped down and landed with a loud thud in front of Daryus. He stepped back in surprise and again as she lunged at him swinging. "You are going to have to work harder than that Daryus to kill me" She sneered at him, slicing at his arm with her dagger. He cursed at her and fought back their swords clashing and clanging loudly.

Tristan had been hard at work in the Inn's kitchen when he heard the distinct clang of steel on steel from outside. The sounds of the fight between Phin and Daryus were dampened by the rain to an almost eerie sound. Tristan couldn't help but expect to see ghosts of some long fought war had risen to relive the battle as he peered out the back door. He breathed a slight sigh of relief upon opening the door and finding only a damp, muddy field and the stables beyond. However, as his eyes focused in the dark he could see the shadowy figures of the two pirates moving back and forth, their features being lit up by the sparks of their clashing swords. The body language of the fight told him that they were out for each others blood. Nothing is harder to rebalance than the death of a living being. Protect life whenever you can, and only take life when no other balance can be made. His mind echoed with the voice of one of his instructors from his childhood. Tristan's face set into a more serious expression as his mind resolved on action in a matter of moments.
"Hey Te'Elle, looks like the stable boy didn't light the lanterns in the stable, I'll go do that real quick." He said to the cook in a light voice, disguising any sound of concern for what was going on outside. Without waiting for a response, Tristan stepped out into the rain and shut the door behind him. As he watched the two silluettes danced back and forth in the stables, Tristan reached both hands over his right shoulder and drew the two staff segments from their pouch. With a practiced motion he snapped them together, forming the full six foot staff. Pushing off the back step he hit the small field in a sprint, invoking his magic as he ran. With his free hand he began collecting water from the puddles he ran past and the rain in the air until his entire left arm was surrounded by a tentacle of water.
As he neared the edge of the stable he thrust his staff forward towards the dirt floor between the two pirates. A moment of concentration later a pillar of earth suddenly erupted from the spot, rising solid four feet from the ground forcing the combatants to break distance from each other. Using the momentary distraction Tristan took his last stride into the stable before he leapt into the air, flipping once before landing on the pillar in a crouch. He then swung his staff in a wide arc forcing Phin and Daryus further back and once finished the motion, struck out with his free hand towards each of their feet. The motion sent a ball of water at each of his targets, splashing around their feet and freezing a split second later leaving them both rooted in position. Tristan then finished the display by returning the pillar of earth from whence it came, leaving him standing upright between them. He looked back and forth between them a few times before asking in a polite and genuinely curious voice.
"Alright, so you two wana tell me what's going on here? Cause that was obviously no duel between friends." By the time he had finished his eyes had returned to their usual grey blue colour.

Phin was in mid lunge when she felt a sudden tremble beneath her feet and a pillar of earth rose up between her and Daryus keeping them from each other. Phin gritted her teeth in irritation and was about to step around when the guardian appeared and she was forced to leap back to avoid getting his staff in the chest. She shouted in frustration when she saw that ice suddenly was encasing her feet, keeping her immobilized. She shouted in frustration and glared at the guardian "Release me! A friend doesn't try to kill you and take your place!" She shouted and cursed at Daryus. She could hear him on the other side cursing under his breath then shouted that she was an insane dictator who was on an even more insane treasure hunt. Phin exhaled loudly "You have no faith what so ever Daryus, you always want everything to be easy and handed to you. If you don't want to be here then leave and go back to the bloody ship for all I care and who ever stays with me could be on an adventure of a lifetime!" She huffed again exasperated at his lack of vision throwing her hands in the air "I'll go on by myself then" She spit back at Daryus when he confirmed that the crew were going back with him no matter what.

"Oi, this storm is summat else, eh Sarge?" The guard looks to his companion atop the city walls, the rain coming down harder than ever. "You've said that four times now, Todd. And every time you say it, the storm gets worse. So do us a favour and shut up, eh?" A sheet of lightning spread across the sky, illuminating the barren landscape beyond the walls, accompanied soon after by a shuddering crash of thunder. "See? Lord, it's like you're egging it on! Let's get the gates shut. I doubt if anyone'll be coming in through this lot."
As the two turn to head down the tower, another sheet of lighting cascades across the sky. Todd grabs the Sergeant's shoulder, shaking him. "O-Oi! Did you see tha'?" "What, the lightning? Yes, yes, it was huge, I get it." "N-no! That! There's a guy out there!" "...What? Where? You're having me on!" "No, honest! Just there, by the rocks!" The two guards stare out over the ramparts for a few moments, waiting for another lightning strike to light up the area. As the third bolt strikes, a figure is silhouetted against the landscape, moving slowly, but with purpose. "What d'you reckon 'e's doin' out in this, Eric?" "If I'm any judge, getting out of this! Let's get down to the gates, quick! He looks 'urt." "Righ' you are, Eric." "That's Sergeant, Todd." "Sorry, Sarge..."
The two men rush down the tower steps, making haste across the square to the main city gates, currently set wide despite the storm. Another lightning strike shows further progress in the figures approach. The two guards look at each other, then assume attention, attempting to at least look somewhat formal. After not too long, the figure arrives at the gates, looking infinitely more intimidating up close. The two guards drop their spears as the Sergeant swallows hard. "Halt! State your na-" Before he can finish, the spears shatter from a swing of the man's sword, the spear tip of one embedding itself into the nearby gate.
The Sergeant locks eyes with the man for the first time, and the sheer, blazing ferocity therein causes them to almost glow, forcing him to take a step back. He stammers as he fumbles for his sword. "Th-th-that's a**-ss-ss-ssault on a cit-city official, that is! I-I-I-I c-c-c-could arrest you for th-that!" The man, seemingly nonplussed, speaks slowly, as thought labored. "Ut av min vei." As the two guard look at each other, the figure seems to waver slightly. Then, his eyes fading to normal, he folds into himself, collapsing in a heap, uttering a single word. "Resten..."
After some time, the Sergeant takes a step forward and prods the man with his boot, leaping back several feet. "...Cor, Sarge, I think 'e's dead..." "D-dead? No, couldn't be. Ain' seen a dead man who could do tha'..." "Ah mean NOW Sarge..." "No, look, 'e's still breathin'..." "Then we'd better get 'im inna cell now, eh Sarge? Afore he wakes up and takes us both to pieces?" The Sergeant looks thoughtful for a moment. "...Hey, yeah. Good thinkin', Todd. Shackle 'im up. We'll see abou' askin' 'im some questions in the morning. Let's get outta this rain."
The two guards drag the incumbent man past the tavern and the stables to the guardhouse at the back of the town. "...Reckon we should look in on that, Sarge?" He jerks a thumb to the Stables, having seen the three people enter. "Nah, that one looks like one o' them monks. You know the ones. 'E'll 'andle it jes fine, I'll bet." "I dunno, Sarge..." "Well, fine. If you're that concerned, you 'andle it.""...Right, Sarge."
Leaving the Sergeant to drag back his unconscious charge, Todd draws his sword and sidles up to the stable door. "Righ'... 'Ere goes nothin'..." He leaps through the doorframe, an impressive maneuver rather diminished by the chattering of his teeth. "O-oi! City Guard! W-wha's goin' on in 'ere?"
