Dian nodded and welcomed the two new people to the table. He had had a quick chat with Dorian before, and had liked the other man. The swaggering, outspoken girl was new to him. She was very pretty and eye-catching, and she obviously new it. Somehow that rather put a dampener on things going in that direction. He never could stand forward girls, but he did not think this mean he couldn't enjoy the view.

He grinned as she hugged Blair in a loud but sisterly way.

He blinked at Blair's question, but rallied masterfully. "I don't believe so." he said. Hoping there weren't any empaths amongst the company to catch his uncertainess. He felt slightly annoyed at Blair for putting him on the spot like that, but his easy-going nature wasn't one to hold a grudge. Anyway, he thought, I could take it as practicing for when I've no one to back me up.

"It sounds like a good idea, though." he added. "Do you think we could go? Wouldn't they be wanting more, I don't know, prestigeous people?"

Dian grinned at Pei. "Really?" he said amiably. "And what sins have you been up to to account for the shocking state of your Karma?" He winked at Dorian. "Or would you like us to guess?" he added impertinently.

Dorian glanced disdainfully at Hadrian as he implied that he (he) had something to do with Pei. Dorian always enjoyed a good joke, no less when it was poked at him, but that was going too far. During the others' talk Dorian leaned over and, while rightening her knife, palmed some of Pei's breakfast from her plate. Smiling secretively to himself he sneaked the stolen morsel into his mouth while pretending to smother a yawn. Chewing inconspicuously, he looked on as Pei continued to elaborate on the dangers of travel. He'd join in on the conversation, but that would mean following Pei's line of thought, which was practically impossible. Instead, he turned his head towards Blair, resting his chin on his palm as he did so. "So how come you want to go?" He asked, curious, "I mean, your not exactly the type of person I'd have thought would jump at such an opportunity. Me, sure I'll go. If they'll take me. But I'd give anything a try," he shrugged his shoulders, "I guess your just full of surprises, eh?" he asked, grinning at her broadly, "Here's an idea, though. How about living her," here his eyes sought out the madly gesticulating figure of Pei, "Behind?"

Dian shrugged, not thinking that Pei (or Dorian) would take the joke so seriously. He was slightly disturbed with Pei's intensity; he seemed to have hit some sort of nerve or something.

"Very true." he said, more somberly. He grinned at the bright introduction. "I'm Hadrian, but feel free to call me Dian,. Pleased to meet you." He hd the grace to look embarrassed.
"Um, I don't think so." he hazarded, looking at Blair for help.

Dorian assumed a thoughtful expression once more as he answered Blair. "Neither did I," he said, rubbing his chin with the heel of his hand, "Do you think it's something I need to explore? I could have other dormant abilities too. Why, now that I think about it, I'm sure I do." His attention, momentarily distracted by Pei's flutterings, came back to focus on Blair. Giving her a quick wink, he turned to Dian. "Oh, but you must have heard of the glamorous Peighton O'Rourke!" he exclaimed, rather over doing his shock, "Why, it's practically a sacrilege to not have done so!" He leaned back in his chair, crossed his arms and gave Dian a serious stare. "Don't make me report you to the authorities!"

Dian grinned at this exchange.

Apparently they knew each other well, perhaps a bit too well, in fact.

"Oh, please don't." he told Dorian, playing up to the role. "I'll make it worth your while!" He search his pockets and pulled out a length of string. "See here, this marvelous piece of magic string. I'll give it to you if you promise not to tell." He said, waving the thing enticingly in front of Dorian's eyes, trying not to laugh.

Dorian gazed in awe at the piece of string Dian was dangling before his eyes. "So preeetty," he slowly reached out for it with one hand, getting only half way before he broke down laughing. "I've always been a sucker for bribery," he said, snatching the string from Dian, "Red? Really?" he asked at Blair's comment, "I wonder why that is. I'd have thought they'd be blue. Not sure why though. Probably because I've always pictured magic to be that colour." Stashing the string in his pocket, Dorian jumped to his feet. "Yes, let us go work for the slave-masters like, erm, slaves!"
