Ivan Konstantinovich

Ivan ate his meal quite quickly with a glass of water to wash it down. Not inhumanly quickly, but enthusiastically enough that it was obvious 'meat' was his favorite food group. If one opened the fridge they'd find quite an abnormally large amount of animal flesh, though there were enough regular foods scattered about to make a more regular meal or two; possibly an attempt to keep things in the fridge that Jaden would like. Meal done and dishes washed, Ivan walked out to the living room, sitting beside the adoptee on the couch.

"Is the room to your liking?" the Russian asked casually, looking around a bit for the remote, before turning to dig around a bit in between the sofa cushions. "I could," he offered, looking to try to be ... careful while digging around a cirtain area, "try to make something you like ... you know, when you get hungry--"

The Russian then flinched as the bear spring he'd been tryint to avoid stuck him in the finger as he wrapped his hand around the tv remote and pulled the device out, before sucking at his finger. Damn; the little demon had really pricked him! A small amount of blood was coming from the wound.

Forever sweet and never ending…
Jalen

Jalen was about to answer, keeping his eyes down on his book, when the smell hit him. Sweet and wet, stinging his nose and throat with an intense desire to leap on Ivan and drain him.

The boy's body tensed and he visibly paled, wondering just how much bad luck Ivan had. But he managed to stay in his seat, covering his mouth and nose with the back of his hand. "Fine," he said shortly, his voice tense. "And I'm not hungry. I'm tired. Goodnight." He got and quickly walked down the hall, almost slamming his door shut and leaning against it heavily, panting. The walk down the hall was quick, but it took forever to him. Each step he had to force out, his whole being wanting to whirl around and go back to the sweet blood.

He realized he must have seemed horribly rude to Ivan... So far Jalen had been lucky enough not stay in control of his problem. He had not fed off any of his foster parents. Instead he had opted to seem like a psycho brat with horrible mood swings. No wonder everyone thought of him as a troubled teen...

There it was again. The clear look of hunger on Jaden's face. Though this time Ivan thought the child looked more like a starved dog than anything, ready to leap at the nearest scrap of food. The Russian looked confused as Jaden denied this hunger yet again and curtly dismissed himself, leaving. The man winced as he heard the door slam shut, wondering if he'd done something wrong to warrant such a reaction.

Though his wound closed up in a few moments. It was small and hardly a pinprick after all. Plus he had quite the healthy body for a man his age ... it was a perk of his species. Ivan shrugged and watched some television. After an hour or so of Animal Planet specials, he switched the machine off and walked down the hall to his own room, knocking lightly on Jaden's door, but not going inside. "Goodnight," he said, politely. "There's food in the fridge if you get hungry. My room's right across the hall if you need anything." That done he went to his own room, leaving the door half-open, and flopped onto his bed.

As he fell asleep he wondered about his new housemate ... and if they'd be able to get along well.

Forever sweet and never ending…
Jalen

The boy was glad Ivan left him alone for a bit. Jalen just sat against his door, taking deep breaths of clean air as he tried to clear his head from what he so desperately desired. When Ivan knocked on his door, he was mostly in control. At least enough to politely say, "Alright," through the door.

When he heard Ivan enter his room he got up and stretched, feelings stiff from sitting on the floor for so long. He was feeling a bit tired, anyway... But then again he always felt tired. He knew he didn't have to sleep, though. One time when he was younger he stayed up for a week and still didn't feel the need to actually sleep. So the tiredness probably came with the hunger.

Shaking his head, Jalen opened the door to his room and searched around the hall. Finally finding a lightswitch, he flicked it and flooded the hall with light. Then he went back to his room, leaving his door open and crack, he laid down and burrowed under the covers. Another childhood fear he had never gotten over: the dark. Even though he could see perfectly in it...

Ivan cracked one eye open as the hallway light flipped on, but otherwise didn't move. Guessing that the light was on for a reason, the man gave a small smile. Huh; scared of the dark? Either way all the Russian did was simply turn over and go back to sleep. He could speak to Jalen about it tomorrow ... if the other wanted to, that is.

Sometime early the next morning Ivan woke with a stretch and yawn, a few bones in his spine popping as he did so. Shaking his head doggishly to clear the last cobwebs of sleep the blond rand a hand though his hair and went into his bathroom to take a shower, warm water coming to life slowly. Once cleanliness had been achieved he dressed and walked out to the hallway, turning off the light seeing as the sun was bright enough to take care of any darkness now. Standing outside Jalen's room, Ivan wondered if he should knock or just peak in through the crack to see if the child was awake.

After a moment of deliberation, he just said softly: "Jalen ... are you awake? And, if so, do you want any breakfast?"

Jalen

Jalen stirred when he heard the light in the hall click off, but decided to just ignore it and go back to bed. Then he heard Ivan outside his door talking to him. Time to get up, then? The boy didn't want to... He far too tired and groggy first thing in the morning. But he sighed softly and murmured, "I am now..." before sitting up and rubbing his eyes.

It always took him awhile to fully wake up in the morning. He gave a huge yawned and stretched before getting out of bed and slinking to the door. His hair was a wreck and the dark circles didn't seem to get better with the sleep he got last night.

"Don't worry about breakfast for me," he said, stretching again in an attempt to get his brain working. "Just cook something for yourself." He paused a bit and added, "Sorry about my behavior last night. I'm bipolar." He would much rather be bipolar than the truth. In fact, he often told little lies like that to the families he lived with. He was bipolar, a pathological liar, ADD, ADHD, a cannible... Whatever he had to be to cover up what he really was.

Ivan was both amused at Jalen's grogginess and a bit worried at his continued ill appearance and denial of any sort of food. Maybe if he stopped directly asking the boy if he wanted to eat Jalen would come to start asking for food, or maybe at least make something for himself when Ivan wasn't looking. Though, as to the explanation for the other's behavior the night before ... Ivan simply shrugged. "Well, at least you're not schizophrenic, da? And sometimes I have mood swings too ... a bit." The Russian gave a second shrug, heading towards the kitchen. "Might as well worn you now. I get very grouchy once a month; maybe more if one of my old friends come to visit. They are quite annoying sometimes, but don't worry if you see strangers come in. Most of them don't bite."

He pulled out a steak to have for breakfast, turning on the frying pan as well. "So, is there anything you like to do ... besides read?"

Jalen

Grouchy once a month? Jalen followed after him, having to suppress snickers. Maybe he wasn't the only one with a secret. Maybe Ivan was secretly a woman in disguise. The thought was highly amusing. But the mention of friends didn't bother him. As long as they didn't do something stupid and start bleeding. Then they would have worry about him biting them.

The boy sat down at the table, glad Ivan wasn't making a big deal out of his habit or rejecting food.

"Reading is really all I've had time for," Jalen answered as he yawned again, running his fingers through his grey-blue hair. "I jump around from home to home, so sometimes it's pretty hard to take things with me. I used to have more books then just the one I have now, but they're all with my last family." Stupid b*****d probably burned them by now... Pity. But at least he had saved his favorite. "I am into this show on TV..." he thought to add. "Mentalist. It's kinda cool. What about you?"

"Ah ..." Ivan said as he proceeded to cook his meat to kill all of the worms in it ... or just so he didn't creep Jalen out by eating raw meat. Oh bloody morning steaks, he would miss you dearly ... "Maybe we could go to the bookstore sometime then. But I myself like to hike in my spare time. My job makes me go out quite a bit though; I make sure no one goes hunting in the woods out back. It's a game preserve, so naturally my hiking, in way, also pays the bills." And it also provided a very good cover for when he would go out for a few days and just 'camp out' and make sure no one was poaching at night.

Woe be to any hunter caught out in that forest during a full moon. Finished cooking, Ivan set his plate down and began eating, still a bothered that Jalen wasn't consuming anything, but not making a point of it. The pale teen would do what he needed to do.

Jalen

Jalen couldn't help but crinkle his nose at the smell of boiling animal blood, and then again when he saw Ivan actually eating the cooked food. Even though he used to love steak when he was little, he quickly grew to hate all food when he would bite into it and taste nothing but ash. It was horrible. Now he had forgotten what human food really tasted like, not quite understanding how he could have ever enjoyed it in the first place. Or how others could.

But the bookstore sounded nice. He could spend hours lost in a bookstores. Months, even, consider he would never need to eat or use the bathroom. Or sleep, for that matter...

"Sounds like you have the right job, then," he said, looking away from the disgusting inedible thing on Ivan's plate. "Being outside isn't that bad. I enjoy sitting under trees reading..." And sometimes in them. "Maybe next time you go out hiking I'll go with you."

Ivan vaguely wondered if Jalen was a vegetarian. That would explain the faces the pale male was making at the cooked steak, and even his sickly look, but not his aversion to actually eating. Was the boy starving himself to look thinner or something? He sure looked thin enough. The Russian perked up at hearing Jalen didn't mind going outside. Finally, a common interest! "I'll be sure to take you out sometime then," he said with a smile. "Though you'll have to stay home when I go out at night. I'd rather not risk you getting eaten ... or shot." He added as almost an afterthought meal now done.

And then someone came bursting through the front door; a rather large and boulder-like someone who marched right up to the kitchen table and slammed his hands down on it. "Ivan!" the muscle-bound male all but roared.

"Yes," the Russian said back, as if this were a regular occurrence.

The boulder pouted. "You didn't make me any breakfast."

"This isn't your house so I don't see why I should cook for you,"
Ivan replied, rolling his eyes. "Jalen, this is Rocky. Rocky, this is my new adopted family member."

The large man then blinked, looking down at the pale twig of teen, sniffing as if to test Jalen's scent. "Oh, sorry. Didn't see you there."

Jalen

Jalen smiled, glad that he would get to end up doing something with the other man. So far this was the best house he'd been to. No worried looks, no one watching him out the corner of their eyes, no one accusing him, badgering him, or yelling. He loved it here...

And then the door slammed open, causing the boy to jump a good foot out of his chair, heart pounding in his chest. He coughed a bit when Rocky looked down at him, trying to hide the start the man had given him.

"D-Don't worry about it..." he muttered, running his fingers through his hair again. This time it looked more like a nervous habit than anything else. "Nice to meet you." Geez... The man was like a mountain towering over him! Jalen could bet the man could easily rip him in half if he wanted to. It was slightly intimidating. But at least now he knew why Ivan had warned him about his friends.

Rocky grinned, ruffling Jalen's hair. It was a bit of a scary act considering the male looked like he could crush the teen's head as easily as a child smooshing a grape. "Nice too meet you too," he rumbled before looking at Ivan with a sad demeanor. "But you make the best sausages ... and I'm going to have to be running around all day after Sasha's litter. Can't you give me a little bite ... ?" Rocky seemed set on three tones: Roar, rumble, and whine. Right now he was whining like someone less than half his size and age.

Ivan sighed. "Rocky, if I've told you once I've told you a thousand times ... stop trying to get me to feed you as if you were a stray cur. Go home and have your sister cook you something to eat."

Rocky hung his head and sighed. "But we miss you coming around ... you don't even show up during--" Even the thick-headed man seemed to be smart enough to cut off at the glare Ivan gave him, remembering Jalen was in the room, and revised: "During ... well, you know, then anymore!"

Ivan rolled his eyes. "Rocky, go home."

"But--"

"No."

"It's--"

"Out."

Rocky gave another sigh and moved to leave, seeing that he wasn't going to get another good word out today. The door was closed surprisingly quietly, and then Rocky was gone. Ivan gave a small shake of his head. When were they going to get that he didn't want to be part of the pack anymore? Really. You'd think after a few years the information would sink in.

Jalen

Jalen resisted the urge to flinch away when Rocky felt the need to tussle his already messy hair. But he stayed still and quiet, listening to the conversation. It... Confused him. Just a little. There were a few things the boy picked up on. One: Rocky had a dog named Sasha. Two: It almost sounded like Ivan had been part of a cult.

Or... The Russian mafia. Yeah... The mafia would be pretty pissed if a member stopped showing up during meetings. And it would explain why Rocky was freaking huge.

"That was interesting..." Jalen muttered, leaning back in his chair. "How long do you think you have before the mafia decides to take you out?" Those things were normally quick... A week or two, at most. At least when they got fed up. If the boy was lucky, he would at least beat his old record before having to go back to the foster home due to to Ivan's death.

Ivan at first looked blankly at Jalen, computing what the teen had said, before his face broke into a grin and he laughed a bit. The mafia? Really? Sure he was Russian, but the mafia? For some reason that really ticked his funny bone. "The mafia isn't going to 'take me out,'" Ivan reassured the teen, before sitting back down at the table. "Rocky's just an old friend from a group I used to hang out with. No, they were not a gang. No, they also aren't cult. And no ... Neither Rocky or I have ever been a part of a mafia," he chuckled. "Though, looking at Rocky, I can see how it would be an easy misconception." Then Ivan tried to change the discussion to something more ... well, less past related. "Hey, how about we go to the bookstore now, if you aren't too tired. That way you can get something new to read."
