Dr Silenus Krakken It is evidently an electrical appliance. It cannot be a power source or a communication device, as implied by previous guesses. My original guess before looking at the replies was very similar to the first reply. It is not a military device or a street lamp... but it IS a light fixture of some kind. The rubble surrounding would indicate a low-down area, which could be a number of places, including but not limited to: Baghdad (after bombing, for it does not say WHEN the picture was taken), Hezbola's base of operations (or Al Quaeda's), somewhere in Pakistan, Chechnya, Chernobyl, Bosnia, somewhere in East Berlin or the Soviet Union around their downfall, the industrial section of St. Petersburg Russia (where I have been & encountered similar-looking fixtures), or even a region somewhere in rural America or Canada, where I have seen buildings in equivalent states of disrepair. you are right in one thing it's an electrical appliance (or was one) it is NOT in another country as people keep thinking this pic was taken apr 2006 somewhere in the contiguous 48 states THE BUILDING IS IN DISREPAIR

FIRST CLUE TO HELP PEOPLE FIND THE LOCATION look for lake fork road IT DOES EXIST however you might be better off looking for a needle in a haystack as most people do not recognize this road name HOWEVER it does exist on Google maps
12771 SUR 6431 ESTE U.S. 89 FIRST CLUE TO HELP OUT WITH THE OBJECT, it has to do with a school on U.S. highway 89

it took me a 1/2 hour to track down that address and another 15 minutes to track down that road, if i had of been smarter i would have realized you basically given the location in another post
once i realized where it was i went to flickr and confirmed it
and i found your photo on page one of several pages about where it was
the item is an old time light fixture inside an old schoolhouse or at least what is left of the schoolhouse,
WOW! you gave practically front door service with that address. so where is my gold?
