I think it's a really nice father/ daughter relationship that Mal and River have!
Like in Safe, when River and Simon are in the little town and River says something like, "Daddy will come and take us home". And then Mal comes, and takes them home to Serenity. biggrin I always thought that was really awesome.

remember_spike I can see Mal as a father figure to River Yeah, same. I also the whole thing that he went all out for her to help get the Reaver story out to everyone, she was happy/thankful for him doing all of that. I don't think River really can like someone like that, not yet, anyways. Okay, so this may have nothing to do with anything, but i do love River's quote in "Heart of Gold" to show her innocence and not completly understanding of love and sex (which can be two different things). The one girl is in labor and Simon has to deliver the baby and River is there. She looks at the pregnet lady and doing her whole twisty head curriosity thing says something to the effect, "I wonder what's in there" Wow... how off topic. Sorry. sweatdrop

HECK NO!!!!! River would NOT ever like Mal in that way. in like, the 2nd episode of Firefly, River hear's Mal's name and, after he leaves the room, she remarks to Simon that mal in latin means bad. she is afraid of him, at least, originally.

FaithHopeLove HECK NO!!!!! River would NOT ever like Mal in that way. in like, the 2nd episode of Firefly, River hear's Mal's name and, after he leaves the room, she remarks to Simon that mal in latin means bad. she is afraid of him, at least, originally. I don't think she was afraid of him. I think thawt she was saying he's not a saint, that's all.
And I also think that Mal/River just couldn't work because he's like Simon to her, only more of a provider, where Simon is her caregiver. Does that make sense?

River does not like Mal. She likes Simon. Thats the closet thing she has to love. And its obvious Jayne likes River. But no one else. Jayne see's her, being all crazy. But she's hot, and thats what matters to him. River aint afraid Mal either. Taht line was there to show two things. The fact that she part pyschic. And that shes cryptic.

You know at the end, when Simon and Kaylee drop off screen making out. Heres the scene 5mins later.
Kaylee: Beat ya never learnt any o that in Doctor school.
Simon: (Laughs and smiles) No, we learnt how to do it right! (Laughs and smiles, is joking)
Kaylee: Well thats a hell of a thing to say.
Simon: I was joking
Kaylee(Interupts him) No no, I get it. You get the mechanic in the sack, have your thrust, and then just move on. You probably learnt that in Doctor school too. (Walks away)
Simon: KAYLEE!
River pops down from hatch, smiling madly
Simon: Hey you.
AND NOW ITS SIMON AND RIVER ALONE AGAIN. TYPICAL FIREFLY!
