At first glance, the room looked quite grandiose. A high ceiling, very spacious, rich looking hickory hardwood floor, but at the same time it seemed so bare and boring. Across the room from the door was the window, a large single piece of glass, bordered by a deep green, almost black seeming, curtain. Next to the window was a simple table and a simple high backed wooden chair with a comfortable looking red cushion. On the other side was a slightly ornate dresser with four drawers and some spiraling designs going around the top edge. Opposite that was the bed, a comfortable fluffy bed but a simple yet sturdy frame with a high head board and about waist high foot board. Closer to the door from which he was looking in stood another door.
Walking over to the door he opened it and looked in to find a bathroom. Very clean and well taken care of, with a bath tub and shower at the farthest end, a little along the wall from that was the toilet and opposite the toilet was the sink made of white porcelain. Ducking back out and closing the door, Kegashi looked at his bed again and noticed that his single bag was already sitting there.
Walking to the door, he looked out to see Valrhios walking timidly toward his door. "Come on Val," He called. "There's nothing to worry about in here. There's no one else."
Hearing his friend, Valrhios quickly perked up and sped toward the open door and Kegashi, immediately running to the bed and laying down over the pillows at it's head, curling up comfortably. "Looks like it's good enough for you, eh Val?" Kegashi asked cheerfully.Valrhios lifted his head and looked at Kegashi with his tongue hanging out of his mouth and his tail wagging happily. "I'll take that as a yes." He said with a smile as he closed the door and began walking over to his bag.
Opening the bag, he looked in at the meager contents and sighed, pulling out a few shirts and a couple pairs of blue jeans or black jeans. Digging down through the rest of the clothes he pulled out a beaten frame that had seen better years. In the frame behind moderately thick piece of glass was a picture of he and his mother and father, back when they were a happy family. His mother was a regular height for a woman, and rather skinny. She was beautiful with silky, flowing jet black hair and a fair complexion. His father was a hard looking man but he was big and had a lot of muscle. But in the picture his head was torn off so it just left a beheaded body standing by Kegashi and his mother.
Setting the frame on the table by the window he smiled and turned to go to the door. "Come on Val, let's go explore some of this place. We don't have dad keeping us anywhere anymore." He said without looking back, sure that his friend would go with him without a thought.

o-0-o-0-o-0-o Standing in front of the school, Nyx suddenly heard Kirru's alarm screech. She looked up. Kirru was beating his tiny wings as fast as he could. Behind him was a bigger bird. A...falcon?
Kirru let out another high pitched shriek. He was clearly frightened out of his wits. All he wanted was safety - Nyx. In a panic, he landed messily on Nyx's head; digging his nails into her scalp and getting tangled in her curls. Nyx yelped in pain. The falcon dropped into a dive, determined to get the little sparrow.
"No!" Nyx shrieked at the falcon, "No! You stay away from Kirru! AWAY!"
She violently swept her arm across as if to knock the bird off course. Suddenly, a giant gust of wind came howling around the building and the falcon was swept around for several long moments. Disoriented, it cried out in anger and dismay, glaring at her. How dare you! the look conveyed. Righting itself, it flew off in search of other prey.
Nyx stared up at the sky, her mouth hanging open. Then she remembered the shivering fluff-ball on her head. Wincing, she unhooked Kirru's little claws one by one and cradled him in her hands. His heart was fit to burst; it was beating so fast and so hard. Nyx made a soothing sound in the back of her throat as she smoothed the bird's feathers. Kirru closed his eyes and slowly, his breathing calmed. Nyx sighed in relief.
"See," She told the bird gently, "This is why you don't go running off like that in new places. You never know what dangers are out there."
Something warm trickled down her forehead. A spot of red landed on her wrist. She sighed again. "...And that way I don't get hurt from trying to save you." She kissed Kirru gently on his head.

Stepping outside, Kegashi looked around with a slight excitement lighting his eyes. This was a momentous day, on which he was not confined to one area at the order of his father, a day where he could go where he wanted and see what he wanted to see. Turning around, he opened the door to allow Valrhios outside with him then took a step back to allow his friend enough room to get out. Turning back the way he was originally facing, Kegashi began to walk along the path, marveling at how beautiful the grass was and how well kept the entire yard was, from the trees to the precise place of each paving stone.
Beginning to relax slightly, Kegashi started to meander off of the path, out onto the grass taking in what he could, almost in a daze when he heard a loud shriek coming from somewhere in the sky. Looking up he watched as a small bird was being chased by a falcon, flying for it's life. Snapping out of his daze he winced as the small bird let out another shriek, going behind the trees out of his sight. Running to see what had happened he stopped just short of the trees as the falcon let out a powerful cry as a strong gust of wind pushed him into the air and causing the trees to sway and the leaves to rustle.
Walking slowly he told Valrhios to "Stay." With curiosity getting the better of him, Kegashi began to walk between the trees to see what had happened to the little bird. Walking out he kept his eyes on the ground, searching for what might remain of the little bird, peering between trees and under the few low bushes, until he noticed someone else was in the area.
Looking up he saw the girl from earlier holding the little bird gently in her hands and slowed, but never stopped watching the little bird. Moving closer at a snails pace he stopped a few feet away from her.
"I-Is he alright?" He asked in a tight voice. "Is it g-going to make it?"

o-0-o-0-o-0-o Nyx's head snapped snapped up, her eyes immediately locking on the male creeping towards her. His eyes were wary. She held her hands closer to her chest, bringing Kirru closer to her body. The boy opened his mouth.
"I-Is he alright?" He asked, quite hesitantly. Almost as if he were...scared? "Is it g-going to make it?"
Kirru's eyes opened. He peeped and flopped back and forth for a moment before standing up in Nyx's cupped palms. Then he began to groom himself, fluffing up his feathers and running his little claws through them. Looking back down at her beloved companion, a tiny smile flirted with Nyx's face.
Looking back at the tall stranger, she noticed that there was sincere concern in his eyes. So she did the most gutsy thing she could think of. She held out her hands to him and smiled.
"This is Kirru." Nyx said gently. "And I do believe he will be just fine. He's a tough little sparrow"
Suddenly, Nyx felt the warm trickle flow down from her forehead and continue down her nose. It stopped at her lips. She crossed her eyes a moment, then licked her upper lip.
"Oh my." She said sheepishly. "Look at what Kirru's done this time. I guess I'd better find the nurse or something." Kirru hopped up onto her shoulder, and Nyx wiped a hand across her face, smearing the blood as she laughed nervously.

Kegashi stood there, watching in fascination as the little sparrow began to groom himself but he never truly kept his eyes on the sparrow for too long, always darting a look to the girl. She was cute, he even thought her beautiful, with her auburn hair, but he wasn't sure he could bring himself to be any less cautious with this girl than any other. Too many times had he let his guard down around a pretty girl only to feel utter disappointment and rejection when she finally showed her true colors.
Losing himself in thought his eyes began to linger on the little sparrow. He felt at ease, for a wonder, until the girl extended her cupped palms toward him to let him see the bird a little better. Raising his hands slightly, as if to defend himself, he backed away from her outstretched hands in a slightly crouched position, ready to run if she made too sudden of a move. Taking his eyes from her hands for a quick glance at her face, he realized she was smiling. She had a smile that seemed to brighten up her face which only added to her beauty.
"This is Kirru." She said gently, as though to show him she meant no harm. "And I do believe he will be just fine. He's a tough little sparrow."
Lowering his hands to his sides again and standing straight, he glanced at the sparrow once more as a tiny smile crept up on him, causing the edges of his lips to quirk upward. Animals always seemed to make him smile, he could never truly understand why, but he just thought it was because he knew they would never turn on him. Animals were too pure for such a thing as treachery.
Looking back at her face he noticed blood trickling down her face and felt a pang of shock and worry hit him. Kegashi half raised a hand to his pocket but let it fall as the girl said, rather oddly, "Oh my, look at what Kirru's done this time. I guess I'd better find the nurse or something." and wiped her hand across her face, smearing the blood as she laughed, what seemed, nervously.
Fidgeting a little with the bottom of his shirt he burst out. "I can go get the nurse," He said in a hurry. "You can wait here and rest." His eyes widened with shock as he heard his own words leaving his lips. He had never been so forthcoming to help anyone he didn't know in a long while. But none the less, he had said it and so he had to do it.
Taking a few steps back, Kegashi smiled slightly at the bird, Kirru, again and ran past them both, up the stairs and into the main entrance of the school, immediately turning toward the principals office.

o-0-o-0-o-0-o Nyx's eyebrows shot up in surprise when the boy burst out, "I can get the nurse. You can wait here and rest." And the funny thing was that he looked almost shocked at his own words. Opening her mouth, Nyx was about to protest when he ran off, shooting one last smile at Kirru.
Instead of listening to him though, Nyx walked in the direction he ran. She put Kirru on her shoulder, where he busied himself with tangling his beak in her hair; occasionally letting out a happy chitter. She smiled and walked up the steps. Walking into the main hall, she looked around for several long moments before walking into the office. The secretary looked up. "Oh my..." she said, but she didn't look surprised.
Nyx couldn't see the black haired boy anywhere. She smiled at the secretary and sat down in one of the chairs against the wall. "A bandaid will fix this." She said cheerfully.

As Kegashi ran toward the principal's office, he stumbled, nearly losing his footing and falling face-forward. Slowing down gradually, he stopped just outside of the office and began to look around. Turning from the door he caught sight of a sign posted on the wall. Walking over to it quickly he realized it had a blue arrow on it, pointing up a blue flight of stairs, with the words "Nurses office" printed in bold, straight, blue lettering beside the picture.
Compressing his lips slightly he turned and ran toward the stairs, ascending them rapidly. As he began to reach the top of the stairs he looked over the lip, straight ahead, to where another sign saying "Nurses office" in the same lettering was. Only this sign had an arrow pointing directly to the right.
Not slowing, he clamped his hand down hard on the edge of the railing a few steps from the top. Bracing himself, he jumped, heaving with considerable strength to pull himself up, and over the rail. Landing hard on his feet, he began running again until he came to a solid gray painted door, with a small window in it. On the window in big bold, red letters were the same words as were on the signs he had seen on his way there.
Stopping in front of the door he extended his hand forward slowly, hesitating, with his hand over the slim gray handle of the doorknob. Swallowing audibly, he pushed it down and entered, wariness taking over completely. His eyes darted all over the room, taking in every inch. In front of him lay a small desk, set against the wall beneath an open window, the light spilling into the room. A breeze caught the white curtains, making them billow gently up and down, and bringing with it the scent of fresh air. Beside the desk was a medicine cabinet stocked full of bottles for liquid medicines and pills, along with boxes of needles for injections and surgeon gloves. Directly to his left was a light white curtain, which he assumed blocked the view of beds on the other side, where students could rest if it was called for. Directly on his other side was a door that was cracked slightly, allowing a view of a small office. Walking slowly toward the door, he pushed it open cautiously, to peer inside, and came face to face with a short woman.

o-0-o-0-o-0-o Nyx swung her legs back and forth silently as she waited for the boy to come back from the nurse's office. She hummed quietly, and Kirru trilled a few notes, hopping around on her shoulder. The secretary looked up from her paperwork, and when she smiled, crows feet appeared around her eyes. "The blood is drying," she commented, almost casually. "You should probably go to the restroom and wash it off."
The tiny woman rummaged around her desk, pulled out a white piece of cloth, and held it out to Nyx. "Here. The girl's room is at the end of the left hall by the stairs. On this floor, near the dining hall."
Nyx took the cloth with a word of thanks and turned to leave.
"Oh!" Ms. Sing called after her. Nyx looked back. The secretary's eyes twinkled in amusement. "The library is on the second floor. Up the stairs, take a right, then a left at the end of the hall."
Nyx's eyebrows shot up in surprised. She mumbled another thank you, feeling the asian woman's eyes on her as she left.
Following the woman's instructions, Nyx found the washroom easily. The state of the place shocked her. It was classy, private and not a single word of vandalism in sight. The counters were...granite? Or at least, something that imitated granite. And there were flowers in glass vases on top of the counters. Were they real? Nyx ran her finger over a petal. They were. The sink faucets shone silvery, and the floor tiles were smooth beneath her sandaled feet. Nyx's mouth hung open in surprise. What sort of school was this?!
Just then, the door opened. Nyx spun around, her eyes wide, and she met another pair of wide, female eyes. Then the girl smiled cheerfully and shook her head. "Oh, my. I've never seen you before. You must be new here. And already in some sort of trouble."
Nyx blushed a dark crimson. "Um...I guess so." She mumbled.
The girl laughed. "No need to be shy. Here, let me help you." She took the cloth from Nyx's unresisting hands and rinsed it in the sink. Then she squeezed the excess water out and began dabbing at Nyx's face. "I'm Lunette. Second year at the Academy."
Lunette had dead straight black hair ending at her shoulders, with two silvery streaks framing her face. Her eyes were a curious shade of silvery-grey and she was about an inch shorter than Nyx. She flipped the cloth over and continued working on Nyx's face.
"I'm Nyx," Nyx managed. "I just got here this morning. And thank you."
"Oh, it's no problem. And there we are, all done! Cute bird, by the way. You're air, I'm guessing."
Nyx was thoroughly confused. The confusion must have shown because Lunette grinned and dropped the subject. She threw the cloth into the garbage and picked up the pitch black cat that was waiting silently at her feet, which Nyx hadn't noticed until now. It's eyes were the same shade as Lunette's. A chill went down Nyx's spine.
"I'll see you around, Nyx!" Lunette said as she left.
After several long moments, Nyx finally opened the door, went back down the hall, up the stairs, and around the corner in search of the library.

Staring, shocked, at the woman who's face filled his view, Kegashi couldn't help but notice she had big blue eyes with long, curly, and slightly frizzy, brown hair that hung to her shoulders. Her eyes were covered with a pair of thick, round glasses that seemed to be hanging on, ever so slightly, to the tip of her slender nose as she blinked in surprise.
Getting over the initial shock, he stumbled backward, arms stretched over his head, flailing through the air as he tried to create distance between them. As he stumbled his foot caught on the edge of a wheeled cart and he fell backward, crying out and knocked the cart over, pulling down the first white curtain blocking the view of the beds as he tried to keep himself from falling to the floor.
"Ouch..." He said as the commotion of the scalpels and various other items that fell from the cart stopped skittering across the floor. He rubbed his left arm gently to try to work feeling back into it from the way he had landed. Stopping suddenly, he looked at the door where the nurse was still standing, gawking at the mess he had made.
"Oh dear... Are you alright?" She asked, taking a step toward him.
Without saying a word, Kegashi was on his feet quickly, already moving to the door. Opening the door he dashed out, skidding across the hall as he tried to make a quick turn to run back the way he had come up, stumbling and catching himself on the door of another room. Pushing himself off he began to run through the hall again.
Spotting the girl from earlier, he shut his eyes tight, ashamed that he didn't get her any help at all, and ran past her, forcing himself to even greater speed. Opening his eyes as he reached the flight of stairs, he began to descend two stairs at a time. Upon reaching the bottom floor he ran to the side of the stairs and put his back against the wall, breathing hard.
Clenching his fists and his eyes tight, he began to quiver with anger he felt for himself. Damnit! I couldn't help someone because of my fear of people. It's always getting in the way... but if it didn't, I might end up in the same situation as I did back then...
Sitting at the table with his fathers friend, ten year old Kegashi pushed his little toy car around on the table top in front of him. Giving it an extra hard push to see how far it would go he sent it careening over the edge of the table to land on the floor. Ducking his head down and looking under the table he saw that it had landed beside the chair occupied by his fathers friend.
"Could you pass my car back over, please?" He asked the man. The man glanced at him, but said nothing. Frowning slightly, he dropped down from the chair and moved around the table to retrieve his car.
As he bent down to pick up his car, he felt a hard impact against his ribs which sent him flying toward the lower cupboards. "Don't come near me, boy!" The man shouted. "If you do it again it will be worse!"
Clenching his eyes tight and holding his ribs to fight the pain, Kegashi writhed on the floor for a few seconds before eventually pushing himself up, breathing heavily to regain the air that had been knocked out of him. Struggling weakly to his feet, he supported himself on the cupboard and began to move back toward his car in a daze, only to feel a similar impact on the other side of his ribs.
"I told you boy, if you did it again, it would be worse!" The man said, rising. Walking to Kegashi the man bent down, clenching his fist, and hit him hard across the face. "Do 'not' come near me again you cursed child! I don't want your kind around me!" He said as he walked back to his chair and took a seat.
Pushing himself up again, tears streaming from his eyes, Kegashi sat with his back against the cupboard, holding his ribs to fight the pain once again. After a few minutes of sitting there fighting the pain, his father entered the room glancing toward his son.
"What did the boy do Leonard?" His father asked without a second look at Kegashi.
"That cursed child of yours came near me, is what he did," The man named Leonard replied."You should really think about putting him out on the street instead of keeping that, thing, here with you. He may become dangerous in the future." He added in a serious tone.
"Oh, I would have it done already if I didn't need his mothers money to pay the bills. I keep him around and give him minimal care so I can keep receiving alimony until I find a job and no longer need him or her." He said as though Kegashi wasn't there.
Not hearing a word, his father or the man was saying, Kegashi set his eyes on the car. Fighting back the pain, he focused on it, trying to will it toward him. After what seemed hours, the car began to creep toward him as the floor tiles bulged and moved like a low rolling wave. As the car moved toward him it turned over, creating a low clinking sound as it rolled toward him along the wave.
Hearing the sound, Leonard moved to stand but Kegashi's father beat him to it. Standing over Kegashi, his father slapped him hard across his face, sending him sliding a little way across the floor. "I told you never to do those hellish things in my house!" His father screamed, advancing toward him. "You know the penalty for breaking my rules, boy!" He said as he bent down, picking Kegashi up by the back of his shirt and throwing him toward the door. "Get outside and think about what you've done!" He shouted as he walked back to his chair.
Crawling along the floor, sobbing with the pain in his sides and the pain he felt in his face, Kegashi reached up on his knees and opened the door, doing as his father said, fearing another blow from either of the two men at the table. Closing the door gently behind him he crawled along the muddy ground toward the back fence. Putting his back against the fence he curled up with his knees to his chest and his arms around his head and cried as the rain beat down on him, its cold, chilling fingers running down his back.
Through a small hole in the fence Valrhios poked his head in and ran to Kegashi, letting out a long, pitiful howl, as though sympathizing with his friend.
Reaching out a hand, Kegashi placed it on Valrhios' head, never raising his own, and kept crying as Valrhios moved closer and lid down beside him, offering a small comfort.

o-0-o-0-o-0-o Nyx's eyes opened wide as the boy from earlier came barrelling down the hall. She jumped aside, just before he had a chance to run her down. Kirru shrieked in surprise at her sudden movement. He hopped off her shoulder, and flying circles around her head, chittered angrily at her, scolding her. Nyx glared at the bird. "And what would you have done, may I ask?"
Turning, her eyes followed the boy down the hall. Curious, she followed him. She stopped at the top of the stairs and watched as he ran down them at full speed before turning the corner and disappearing. Kirru was still making a racket above her head. "Kirru, stop it." Nyx said. She snapped her fingers, then opened her hand, palm up. Kirru landed and looked at Nyx reproachfully. Nyx stroked the bird gently. "I'm sorry, okay?" Kirru chirped softly in reply.
Holding Kirru in cupped hands, she made her way slowly down the stairs. Turning in the direction the boy had fled, Nyx realized that he hadn't gone far. He was leaning against the wall, his chest heaving, looking as if he had received a terrible fright. Nyx approached him, careful as to not make any sudden noises or movements. He didn't seem even as half as scary as when he had first appeared before her.
"Hey..." Nyx said gently, "Um...are you alright?"
She floundered for words, not knowing what to say to this stranger. Opening her mouth to say thank you, she stopped, realizing that he was quivering. She frowned, wondering what could have shaken him so badly.
Kirru peeped. Nyx looked at the sparrow, then back at the boy. "Um...Kirru's worried...." She trailed off, fidgeting slightly.
Then Nyx opened her palms and blew softly on Kirru. A gentle breeze stirred, kissing the boy's hair with it's airy touch. Kirru opened his wings and drifted, landing on the boy's clenched fist. He peeped again and looked up at him with dark, innocent eyes.

"Hey..." The girl said suddenly, gently, "Um...are you alright?"
Flinching at the sudden sound of the girls voice so close to him, Kegashi shied away slightly, clenching his eyes tighter as though expecting a blow to come at any time.
He heard the little sparrow from earlier give off a small peep. "Um...Kirru's worried...." The girl said, trailing off.
Opening his eyes slightly, though squinting as though fighting off a powerful pain, he glanced over at the little bird cupped in the girls palms just in time to see the girl blow on him, ruffling his feathers. As she continued to blow on the bird he noticed that there was a slight breeze brushing against his hair, as though a gentle hand was stroking it, calming him slightly. The bird opened his wings and went along with the breeze, landing on his fist, giving off another peep and looking up at him innocently.
Opening his eyes a little more and relaxing slightly, Kegashi raised the little bird to eye level, then glanced over at the girl standing there now, so quiet.
"I'm sorry..." He said suddenly, "I couldn't help..."
Un-clenching his fists, Kegashi raised a hand to pet the bird gently and smiled a small smile that quickly became a little larger as he got absorbed in the calming motion of petting the small bird, completely forgetting everything else around him.
"Hello, young man, are you alright?" A womans melodious voice called from somewhere over head, "Are you hurt at all from your fall?"
Snapping his head up he looked at the new comer, it was the same woman he saw coming from the back room in the nurses office. Turning quickly so she was no longer behind him, he eyed her up and down. She was about five feet and seven inches tall, wearing a white lab coat that seemed as though it was too big for her, extending well past her knees, almost scraping the floor. Her large blue eyes looked concerned as she began to descend the steps slowly.

o-0-o-0-o-0-o Nyx stared at the woman. The white lab coat told Nyx immediately that she was a nurse. The woman descended the stairs with surprising grace. Her blue eyes were bright and analytical, but she watched the boy beside Nyx with warm concern. For some reason, at this moment, that stare set Nyx's teeth on edge. Maybe at some other time, with some other person, she might not have felt this way, but right now, the nurse's presence irked her. And the way the boy reacted, only reinforced the feeling.
Nyx stepped in front of the boy. She let out a fast, sharp whistle, and Kirru flew from the boy's hands to her shoulder. "He's fine." she said quickly, glancing over her shoulder. He looked fine. Distressed, but uninjured.
"Distraction only. Don't hurt her." Nyx muttered to Kirru. She let out another sharp whistle and Kirru shot off her shoulder, letting out a purposely off-key screech. The nurse's eyes widened in surprise as the tiny bird flew circles around her head, landing momentarily in her hair before taking off again. He chirped and shrieked almost constantly, making an enormous racket.
Nyx turned back to the boy. "Come on, you don't need this right now." She said to him intuitively. She grabbed his hand and ran down the long corridor, not knowing where it lead.

Stumbling after her in a daze, Kegashi glanced over his shoulder and watched for a brief moment as the little bird darted at the nurse again, not relenting his attack for a second. Turning his head forward again he watched the girls back as they came to a brown door, with a small window at the top, in the side of the building. Pushing the cross bar that worked as a latch on the door, the girl pulled him along behind her out into the bright midday sun.
Looking around, he noticed they were in a small garden, almost like a park, with a grand marble statue in the center. The statue, that served as a grand fountain, was a very masterfully carved dolphin that seemed to be jumping out of almost life like marble water, all of the way around the fountain there was a small bed of what seemed to be pink tulips growing so vibrantly, glistening from the dew formed by the mist of the falling water in the fountain. The walk way split in front of the fountain to go around it as well, along the right path there was a small stone carved bench with a bed of blood red roses at either end. To the left the walkway continued on, walled by a wooden framed bed of what looked like carnations. Looking beyond the beds of flowers he realized the entire garden was enclosed by tall hedges, impossible to see over. Peering around the girl as much as he could, he looked beyond the fountain, to the other end of the garden where a gate stood open between the two hedges on either side.
Suddenly, the girl stopped and looked around, seemingly admiring the small garden.
Taking this chance, Kegashi slipped his hand from her grip and stepped back from her hesitantly. "Why did we come here?" He asked sternly, "Why did we run from that nurse?"

NYX Air
o-0-o-0-o-0-o Nyx came to a dead stop after bursting out of the unmarked door, pulling the boy along with her. They had stumbled across an absolutely breathtaking garden. She felt the boy pull his hand from her own, and she could feel his eyes on her back, but she did not turn around. Her arm fell limply to her side, her eyes wide. Then she heard the boy pose a question.
"I don't know," She replied absently, not bothering to clarify which question she was addressing.
The roses around the bench beckoned her. The bench itself was beautifully made, too. A light breeze gently caressed Nyx's cheek and teased tendrils of her hair. In the distance, she could hear a chickadee singing it's heart out. A small smile crossed her face. She took a step forward.
And tripped as her sandal caught in a crack in the path.
She snapped out of her fixation as she lay sprawled out in the middle of the pathway, uninjured, but slightly embarrassed. Pushing herself up onto her knees, she looked back at the boy and grinned sheepishly, her face red. "You looked overwhelmed and troubled. And...I don't know...It just seemed like the nurse wasn't helping." The embarrassed smile continued to stretch her face.
Getting to her feet, Nyx looked around the statue and across the garden, noticing the gates for the first time. Her face lit up. She walked over and through the gates, stopping when she reached the towering wall of hedges not far beyond. Instead, the path extended to the left and right of her. She turned and looked at the boy. "Are you coming? I smell an adventure! I think this is a maze!"

((I had a hard time just thinking of this much. Sorry for the extremely short post. But I also wanted to see how your character would react to being confronted by Valrhios. surprised ))
Kegashi watched as the girl walked around the fountain and through the gates, following, but instinctively keeping his distance from her. She studied the path beyond the gate for a moment, allowing him his own quick observation that the path ahead split two ways, then turned to him and said, "Are you coming? I smell adventure! I think this is a maze!"
Stepping backward, toward the door, Kegashi shook his head from side to side slowly, a small look of horror creeping across his face. "I-I can't," He said shakily. "No-not after that day. No, I don't want to go into the small spaces again. Please, please don't make me go in there. Help, please help me Valrhios." He pleaded, visibly shaking now, as though lost in his own painful world.
As though his name had been a summons, Valrhios burst through the hedge to the right of Kegashi and stood between him and the girl, his head lowered close to the ground as he crouched, his lips peeled back in a ferocious snarl. He stared the girl down, just waiting for any sign that the girl might be a threat, ready to launch himself at her to protect his friend.
