My french teacher says that dialects are important in the culture of a location and its people but you should use the formal or proper way of a language because of maners

Proudly_Jewish spanishnerd99 sancort Is not much of a problem if hispanics with diffent dialects talk to each other we understand each other even if they us vos insted of tu I love the vos form! heart However, I don't get to use it in school much, just cause, well I go along with the curriculum. sweatdrop Aww, that sucks sad I don't get to use Quebec French at school because my teacher's a stupid goat who thinks that only Parisian French counts mad >.< Sounds like SHE has no sense of humour.

Proudly_Jewish Oh yeah, by the way, I wanted to ask. Do Spaniards and Mexians generally understand each other? Like if somebody from Madrid goes on holiday to Mexico, will they have trouble communicating? Or is the dialect fairly similar to the Castillian one? Nope, we usually don't have trouble understanding. My Spanish for spanish speakers teacher was a spaniard lady. She even taught us spanish grammar. I kind of forgot it though... And my programming teacher was from Spain too and he would speak spanish to some people in the class (who spoke Mexican spanish) and we all understood each other well. He had an accent different from ours but there was no confusion. :]

I've never heard Castillian Spanish before...Only Mexican Spanish. I heard Spain-Spanish has kind of a lisp with their pronounciations? Is that true?

Speakers of the Castillian dialect pronounce their z's and soft c's like the "th" sound in the English word "thing," and they also tend to drop syllable-final s's, i.e. "¿cómo etá?" for "cómo estás".

cooch I've never heard Castillian Spanish before...Only Mexican Spanish. I heard Spain-Spanish has kind of a lisp with their pronounciations? Is that true? me neither

Dave Speakers of the Castillian dialect pronounce their z's and soft c's like the "th" sound in the English word "thing," and they also tend to drop syllable-final s's, i.e. "¿cómo etá?" for "cómo estás".
