Hyaku59 Before you start preaching freedom, think of all of the religions that allow no freedom, and countries that kill people for not believing in a specific religion.[/ Exacta! =for instance look at pakistan they kill the non-believer males and take their non-muslim females for their own personal enjoyment(i.e to make babies)whats worse they force the women to change their religion to their own.what about the non-muslim kids?well they work as slaves in the same house in which their mothers are impregnated and give birth to those mongrel halfbreeds ] they got freedom look what they did?

If it is to be destroyed, let it be destroyed through reason and evidence.
That being said, if anyone here wants to play Chris Mooney, I'll be more than happy to explain why accommodationists (and other "moderates") are harmful.

Even though, a large number of wars are over which religion is correct, I believe we should keep religion. For some, religion is a way to get through the living hell they are going through at that particular moment.
Although some rules should be established on religion:
It is NOT something to justify arguments/wars
Politicians should be banned from using it and morphing it in their own way (EX: All Muslims are terrorists so we should not have a Mosque three blocks away from Ground Zero)
And all religions should respect each other
I know this will most likely never happen, but if this did think of how many lives would be saved, how much stress that will never happen. Just a thought though.

Religion has also given the world lots of amazing things, including art, architecture, to name a very few (cos I'm lazy ^.^)
and it isn't the religions themselves that abuse freedom and rights, it's people twisting and corrupting the religion to serve their evil purposes 3nodding
I have no problem with religion per se, but it'd be nice if we could find a time where people just allowed each other to believe in whatever they want and religion wasn't a part of politics.

Hyaku59 Ive been thinking about this for a good while. Would it be better to destroy religion, or just leave it be, and hope people come to their senses. Let me here your thoughts on this subject. How about neither? I don't understand why people want to spread atheism so badly. We should be focused on spreading tolerance, acceptance, and love, rather than trying to prove the unprovable. If someone is loving, accepting, and fair, why continue to try to change them? They aren't hurting anything. If you try to change peaceful religious people, you're no better than the religious people who want to change us. Churches, while historically generally just raped and killed people, are modernly very positive places of holiness and selflessness. I can't understand how people can so ignorantly long for the destruction of such positive organizations.

You cant destroy religion its always gonna be there, if there is something to believe in people are going to believe in it. Whats wrong with religion it gives inspiration and strength.

the motivations for 90% of perceivable "evil" in the world is motivated by desire for material gain. land, wealth, power. God's word and God's will has historically has been little more than a sugar coating to that truth.
the crusades were (and pope Urban admitted this himself) over the arab's trade routes, knoledge, and tecnology. hell the 4th crusade wasnt even against muslims it was against the byzentines who were also christian... the catholic nations of western europe just wanted constantinoples trade routes and wealth.
the greatest genocide in human history is the US government's genocide of Native americans. that was based on a desire for land. the manifest destiny theology was just a bull s**t excuse to make it seem justified.
All of the bloodiest genocides, all of the bloodiest wars, all of the worst descriminations ad prejudices are/were motivated by desire for material gain.
The elimination of religion would solve nothing in that respect. and minimally the only gain science has to religion's resistance is stemcell research... They can say all they want that the big bang and evolution are bull s**t... but they cant really stop anyone from studying it.
I personally think the world would be worse off without religion, than the world as is now.

Troubled_Gentleman You cant destroy religion its always gonna be there, if there is something to believe in people are going to believe in it. Whats wrong with religion it gives inspiration and strength. That inspiration you speak of has been used to cause not only individual pain, but also used to cause destruction to humanity. Is that the kind of inspiration any rational person would aspire to? I think that the fact that there are nutjobs who want the the destruction of humanity,so that their god will come to them are insane.

If I had the power to erase religion, I wouldn't. Religion doesn't just try to make sense of things that people couldn't explain, but it also gives people hope that there is a reward in the afterlife for being a good person, which means it gives them hope and faith. I hate religion, but I don't want to destroy it.

I wouldn't want to destroy religion either.
Although, my reason isn't really noble, it's just Schadenfreude.
I would love to see a point where religion get SO large that it ends up twisting in on itself and collapsing, leaving all these people confused as to what to do without God.
Then i'd quickly move as fast as i can, keeping anything sharp away from then, as most of the religious around be have said that if God really didn't exist, they'd rather be dead.
But then i'd want to help them out of it and let them see what i have seen, feel what i have felt and help them move on so that one of them can end up creating the next mormonism or scientology.
And then i'd start all over.

Humans are a self destructive race its natural and whilst it may be true that people are inspired by their religion to kill others think of it this way: Someone is very lost in life confused and scared they dont know why they are alive so they go to religion to give their lives a meaning to give their life some sort of value. Is that wrong of them? You are probably religious and dont even know it.

eventually religion is going to kill itself. when they say the world is coming to an end on a certain date. we should just cross our arms and say "we will see" and then we will say "we told you so"
