(( sorry for being delayed. I got busy. >w< ))
"So this is what the world downhill looks like," Biffy thought. As someone who never came any farther than his usual place beside the lake, the view is amusing him to a higher level. And to think that there would be more to this when they go further.
Biffy quickly glanced to his side as Cadan disappeared into the tall grasses. Astonished, he bolted up to quickly follow, but stopped short as he heard her barks. Naturally, birds flew away from the patch, and they were rushing here and there, as if desperate to get away. One even shed a black feather, which fell at a safe distance from where the Lock stands. Blinking, he approached it and picked it up. He tucked it in his collar and faced back towards Cadan. "So then let's have fun together," he said, preparing himself to take off again. "By the way, have you ever wandered downhill? What's it like?"

Proud of herself for scaring away the birds, Cadan trotted back to Biffy’s side with a content look on her face. As the Lock inquired about the downhill world she smiled and wagged her tail. “It’s great!” she exclaimed, walking with him again. “There’s lots and lots to see. In fact, sometimes it feels like you can’t possibly explore all of it, because there’s so much.” It was the reason why her adventures never ended. The land itself was quite vast, and traveling from corner to corner would take a fair amount of time.

Biffy got even more excited as he listened to Cadan's statements about the place downhill. "Well, we're almost there, anyway," he said, eyes locked into the horizon in front of him, nervously waiting for what he would see, "I'll have to see for myself how big it is as you describe it."
Just as he finished that last sentence, a loud growl made him flinch. Biffy stopped in his tracks as he heard the sound again, only to realize that it was his own stomach. "Right," he thought, "I slept uphill and wasn't aware of the time, who knows how many hours I've slept to get hungry like this." The cow Lock turned and smiled faintly at Cadan, "Err, yeah. Sorry about that. Do you mind if we stock up on food first? You never know what we'll encounter down there."

The unexpected growl alerted Cadan and made her hackles rise. Instantly, she crouched down and offered a low rumble of her own defensively. Although, upon finding out that it was just Biffy’s tummy growling, she lightened her posture and even laughed a bit. “Sure! I’m kinda hungry, too, but there doesn’t seem to be anything up here for me to eat,” she replied, looking around. There was just a bunch of grass…and more grass…and some other funny-looking plants. Yuck.
The dog Key usually snacked on berries, and sometimes the roots of certain trees. But neither were present at the moment. That meant she either needed to suck it up and eat some grass, or go searching around the area for something that tasted better. In the end she went with her second option and began sniffing around the area for something to fill her stomach.

(( Biffy is a cow. Should he produce milk or would that be too weird? xDD ))
Biffy frowned a bit. It's true that there aren't anything very tasty around where they were right now. Although there are plenty heaps of grass, these kinds of tall grass contains hair, and the last thing he wants is to eat something that would make his tongue itch for two or more days. No way he was going to eat that. "No way am I going to eat that tall grass," he said. before noticing Cadan sniffing around. His stomach made another low rumble, sighed, and began to follow her.

(( Uhh…I think that’d be a little too weird. XD Boy cows don’t usually produce milk [even though Biffy has utters]. ))
Cadan was growing slightly frustrated. How in the world were they supposed to eat if there wasn’t anything to eat around them?! Sitting back, she sighed and looked at Biffy. “Well, we have to eat something!” she exclaimed, as if the cow Lock didn’t already know. Again, Cadan looked at the grass. No…no…she wasn’t going to eat it!

Biffy stopped as Cadan exclaimed defeat. It was only seconds ago that he felt aware of his hunger, but now it feels like it's already seeping through his whole body. He squinted his eyes to stare at the grass firmly standing on their side, and realized that the other, too, was staring at the makeshift food. Only this time, Cadan's eyes seemed to be filled with horror and second thoughts. Biffy assumed that she didn't want to eat the grass. So did he, but that's only because of pickiness. He can stomach the grass if he really had to. But it's not the same with dogs.
Sighing, he sat down and began to recall. He had been in these lands longer than Cadan, there must be somewhere in here that gives them alternative food. The Lock began to idly look around, trying to recall if he had ever eaten something other than grass. It was then that something red had caught his eye off to a distance.
He tried focusing more on what he just saw peripherally, and found out that it was a fruit. In a tree, to be exact. Waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy over there.
"Hey, kid," he said, not shifting his view, "Can you climb?"

Cadan was ready to give in and start attacking the grass with her teeth, yet Biffy’s statement prevented her from resorting to this drastic measure. Her tail began wagging at the question that had her jumping around excitedly. Could she climb? Of COURSE she could! In fact, she was the best climber she knew. Granted, she didn’t know very many people, considering she was always on the move, but this would be super easy.
“Leave it to me!” she told the cow Lock, bounding off to where the tree rested far in the distance. When she eventually arrived at her destination she realized that the fruit was higher up than it looked from far away. Sitting down and tilting her head aaaall the way back, she stared at the juicy treat and licked her lips. It looked so delicious! Without giving it any further thought, she jumped on the shortest branch of the tree and began working her way up.

Catching a very slight peripheral of Cadan seemingly readying herself to eat the grass, Biffy quickly felt a tinge of regret for even mentioning another source of food too early. He would've loved to know if a dog like her could stomach grass, but he might as well just shrug it off for now.
He followed slowly as he watched Cadan maneuver herself up the branches of the tree. Fruits're pretty high up, he thought. Biffy sat down on the grass, his eyes following the other's every movement. Isn't that dangerous? The branches seem to shake very easily. The least Biffy could do is hope that they won't give in to Cadan's weight, especially since she's too eccentric about moving so much.
Sighing, he said, "Be careful up there."

‘Careful’ was not a word that was common in Cadan’s vocabulary. She believed that taking risks was the best way to go about doing things. Shaky branches didn’t scare her! The canine Key was determined as she maneuvered through the tree, higher and higher, until she was nearly where she needed to be to reach the fruit. She stopped on the branch below and reached out her paw as far as it would go; it almost brushed the fruit, but it was still a teeny bit off.
She huffed. If only her arm was longer. Nonetheless, she decided to push herself up slightly. As fate would have it that’s all it took for the wood to snap beneath her weight. Yelping, Cadan nearly fell off the tree and plummeted to the ground. She managed to catch herself just before; her feet dangled in the air as her paws held on for dear life. She began to whimper.

To distract himself, Biffy looked around some more to check if there are other trees that held food. Left, no. Right, grass. Yuck. He looked behind, but as he would've already known, that path was the one they were walking on not so long ago, and if there were as much as a small source of food there, they would've seen it along the way. Drooping his shoulders in defeat, he shifted his view back to Cadan to see how well she's doing.
But right as if on cue, he heard a faint snap! from the tree, accompanied with a key falling off. "Cadan!" he yelled, quickly swooping off directly below her, who has now clung onto another branch. From that point, the fall would still be enough to knock her out. He had to do something!
"Tsk! This is exactly the reason why I told you to be careful!" he said. But this is no time to lecture her right now. He began to position himself directly below the poor key, "Let go of the branch, kid. I'll provide a soft landing!"

But she had been careful! Well…sort of. She didn’t have time to think about such a thing at the moment. Even though Cadan was merely seconds away from falling, she was still determined to get her prize. The branch she held onto wouldn’t stay strong forever, she knew, which was why she swung herself over and gave one final attempt to grab the fruit. The good thing is she actually got a hold of it. The bad thing is the branch could take no more. Securing the tasty treat, she felt herself rushing through the air.
She waited for the sickening sound of her body crashing into the ground, but instead she landed on something soft and warm. Blinking, she opened her large caramel eyes and looked around, only to see that she’d landed on Biffy. She knew she didn’t weigh very much, but falling from a great height must have been uncomfortable for the Lock. Having landed upside-down with her legs facing up, Cadan righted herself and smiled at her companion.
“Look! I got it!” she exclaimed happily, showing him their snack. In all of the hustle and bustle (and somewhere in between falling) the key around her neck had fallen off. She didn’t notice this at first, but soon it was the only thing on her mind, aside from the fruit she handed Biffy. “Where is it?!” she asked, looking around frantically. If there was one thing that was more important to her than adventures, it was her key. She guarded it with her life, after all. It didn’t occur to Cadan that her key was in a rather interesting and fated place.
(( I figured it would be amusing if her key fell into Biffy's lock. XDD ))

(( And what if it unlocks? 8DDD ))
Biffy's eyes widened as he saw Cadan swoop up instead of falling down. Are you crazy?! he thought. Right at that moment, the branch finally gave in, and the Key quickly began to fall. Biffy paced himself up to secure that she will land on his back, before shutting his eyes and bracing himself.
Suddenly, he heard a soft thud!, accompanied with a quick sting on the back. There was also a faint click! from who knows where, but he didn't have time to find out. "Oof!" he grunted as he felt Cadan make a seemingly comfortable landing on her part. His arms and legs are spread out on the ground now, as he lost balance from the impact. Breathing a sigh of relief, he scrunched his eye brows at her, who seemingly forgot that she was in grave danger seconds ago, as she flashed their food in his face.
It didn't take him long to notice that Cadan quickly changed expressions after he took the fruit. "Where is what?" he said as he tried to stand up. He felt a bit of a slight sting from his back as he was doing so, causing him to jerk forward. "Ow!"
Because of that sudden movement, a huge piece of metal fell of from his neck collar and made a faint thud as it hit the grass. Biffy rubbed his back with a free hand as he caught a glimpse of what had fell. His eyes shot open as he realized that it was the golden lock that had been tied around his neck ever since forever. Not only that, it had a key jolted in it's keyhole.
"It...unlocked?"

Cadan was slightly confused as to what was happening. One moment she was searching for her key, and the next she was looking down at Biffy’s lock, which had opened. Well, this was…new. A feeling like never before washed over her, causing the adventurous dog to gasp. She was filled with a new admiration and longing to be by Biffy’s side; she couldn’t explain where the sensation originated from.
The thought of traveling alone as she had been scared her now. She wanted to stay with Biffy forever. A little embarrassed from feeling so personal and intimate, Cadan looked up into her soulmate’s green eyes and secretly hoped that he felt the same way. Standing up on her back legs and setting her paws on his chest, she licked his cheek. Her tail began to wag. “After we eat let’s continue on our adventure, okay?”

Biffy blinked. Again. And again. And again. His eyes were fixed at the lock on the floor that had laid open since the event just minutes ago. He scrunched his eyebrows as confusion started to get to him. Laying motionless, he began to think about how he used to hear the story behind the locks, and why it connects to the soul. If he had remembered correctly, each are born with corresponding locks and keys with them, waiting for the other half of their entity. Only one key can open a certain lock, and when it does, it usually signifies that the owners have been destined to meet from the start. So why did the lock choose to open now?
Biffy's thoughts were suddenly interrupted as he felt a mild lick on the side of his face. He shifted his view back to Cadan, whose energy seemed to have been rejuvenated despite the suspenseful event just a while ago. Nodding vacantly at her, he rolled the fruit up so it lies in between them. "Soulmate, huh..." he said faintly. Cadan may or may not know about the story yet, but he chose not to tell her yet for reasons he can't understand. Shrugging, he smirked at the thought of his soulmate popping up at an unexpected time, and how things are going to flow now that he's aware of it.
"So," he said, "How are we going to divide this thing?"
