I was never really a part of a religion, but I don't feel ashamed for having been a theist. At the time I *was* questioning my beliefs, but for whatever reason I had faith. It didn't make me stupid, it didn't make me less of a person, it's just how it was.
I completely agree.
yeah! ive always been atheist. but i dont think that being a theist makes you stupid. my girlfriend made a 4.7 gpa through highschool, and she believes in god. i honestly dont understand y being a theist makes you stupid. i mean, quite a few are, but definitely not all!
I.Q and GPA have little to do with beliefs. Yes, more intelligent people tend to be less superstitious. But again, your gf probably believes in the same god as Baruch Spinoza--amorphous,absent,etc.. That is to say, if she has the intellect you claim and the critical mind, she probably also understands evolution, a bit of genetics and does not live by the Bible.
Religion, not spirituality is what I am wary of. And I feel ashamed...
of course I did not know better back then. But I spent years looking for the one true religion. They all seem the same.
Just remove the supernatural aspect and you have some pretty humanitarian views.
