Falling quiet for a few moments, the cub concentrated on trying to keep up with the older, larger hyena. Juji's trotting pace was a lot faster than Mwezi's own now. After a few yards, the young hyena changed gait from a trot to a run. It was easier to keep up this way.
Her small paws kicked up small clouds of dust from the dry earth as she moved. It would be nice to have water and a cool place to rest. The sun was warm above, and the faster pace would be more tiring on her.
She wanted to find out more about the 'others' that Juji spoke of, though. They sounded dangerous. Mwezi knew that you shouldn't trust other hyenas straight away. Not all of them were as nice as Juji. "Do the others... go near.. often..?" she asked, panting a little as she ran beside Juji.

Noticing the trouble the smaller hyena was having with keeping up, Juji slowed her pace. "Not yet," she stated matter-of-factly, "but you never know so you gotta be careful, better safe than sorry." She chattered relentlessly, "You stay close t'me and I'll let you know if someone is safe or not, Mwezi. The others might think you'd make a good dinner meal for their babies." They drew nearer, and Juji slowed to a lazy walk, drawing clsoer to the den.
"Even the other cubs, they get food all the time so they're fat and easy to outrun. But they're meaner and strong, though, so you always gotta watch out for anything and everything that comes close to you. I'll watch after you.. maybe one of these nights I'll show you where the others live."
