Caine brushes his hands on his pants after helping Miles up, then grabs his scythe again. He wanted to be prepared for an attack just in case they weren't the first ones here.
He looks at Alexei when Miles asks her question and silently waits for their next order.

"Now we wait. Miles, do you think your magic could blow these boulders off the edge? I want to cut them off, if we can. Wait till they are about to pass, then cut off their way forward. Then we attack from behind."
He pulled the sniper rifle off his shoulder and aimed it northwards, up the canyon pass, looking through the scope for any sign of the assassin's squad.
If they could pull this off, they could box them in with the boulder, and use the pass to their advantage, making the whole place a kill zone.

"Absolutely," she said firmly. "Good plan." She decided that Quake would be better than Fire when the time came to move the boulders. She prepared herself to cast and waited for his signal. Granted, she could see them coming, but she preferred his orders to her instinct. "Ready when you are, sir."

Miles knew that she would have to able to move when the others did too. Just because she was responsible for moving the boulders didn't excuse her from battle. The one free hand she had was hovering over the handle of her anelace.

Caine looks around carefully, surveying his surroundings. He had a decent amount of open fighting space, which was good. He wasn't at his full potential in cramped spaces.
"Where do you want me, sir?" he asks, turning his gaze back to Alexei.

Lowering the rifle, Alexei nods to a spot further up the ridge that had an outcropping that provided some good cover. If Caine jumped down from there, he would likely cut off the assassin squad's escape route if they tried to go back the way they came.
"Wait there for my signal, behind that rock. You'll know it when you hear it," he told Caine, lifting his rifle to indicate that his first shot would be the signal.

Alexei took cover back from the boulder that would cut off the advancing enemy, setting up his rifle with a good view of the canyon. He could start the ambush with the sniper rifle, but he couldn't leave Caine down there alone in melee, so he would take a few shots, then join his comrade to face the assassin head to head.

Caine nods, and with a salute he heads up to the spot and gets down low, occasionally peering out to see what was going on, if anything.

Minutes dragged by in tension as they waited for their target. Finally, through the rifle scope, Alexei spotted movement.
"Alpha Squad, look sharp." he said, just loud enough for the others to hear. He held up his right hand to signal their orders.
Five fingers, then two fingers: seven targets. A fist, then two fingers pointing into the ravine: get ready to attack.

He looked back down the scope, setting his distance and the variable zoom. They were getting closer. They weren't expecting resistance until they reached the Garden - they assumed they had the element of surprise.

They were in view now, six soldiers, with the assassin in the middle. He couldn't get a clear shot at the assassin, but he could take out a couple of the soldiers. He waited for a good shot. He waited for the right moment. They began to pass under Caine's hiding spot. The lead scout was just a few feet from passing under Miles' place.

Alexei zeroed his sights, placed his finger against the trigger, and pulled. One of the rear-guard soldiers dropped like a marionette whose string had been cut, and the signal was given. They knew their orders: Miles was to shake the boulder loose and cut off their way forward, and Caine would drop down and cut off their way back. The ambush had begun.

She could feel the anticipation tensing the air, but Miles was keeping an even keel through it. She took all missions seriously, this one especially, and wouldn't let nerves get to her at a time like this. And when Alexandrov got their attention and gave his signals, she was more than ready.

With the Quake spell cast, the boulder rolled down and effectively cut off their opponents' path to the Garden. Looking down to get a quick count, all seven enemies were caught in the ambush. One of them was dead already, probably Alexandrov's doing. Next in line was Caine who would seal them in from the back.

This was it. This would determine whether or not they could become SeeDs. Miles went over to her leader and crouched next to him, ready to help with more spells at a distance. When and if he went down, she would join him unless she was given orders telling her otherwise.

As soon as Caine hears the gunshot, he knows the battle has begun. He waits for the boulder to block the path forward, then leaps down from his hiding spot to block of the retreat. One of the rear soldiers turns in surprise as Caine lands behind him and raises his gun to attack, but Caine was anticipating him. He dodges out of the soldiers aim and with great strength and speed swings his Scythe as he moves, catching the soldier off guard. The man catches the blade across his gut and falls to his knees with a strangled cry as blood begins to pour down his legs. Caine takes the opportunity to swing his blade back around, bringing it across the soldiers throat this time. It does the trick, and the solder falls down dead. Cane leaps backward slightly, and takes his battle stance, preparing for the next opponent.

Two down. Four, plus the assassin, remained. Alexei let off a second shot, but the sudden movement of the enemy squad once they realized they were under attack caused his shot to go wide, only hobbling the soldier. He set the stock down, leaving the sniper rifle on the ridge.

"Cover me!" he told Miles as he armed himself with his gunblades and leapt down, sliding down the side of the ridge with his blade.

The remaining soldiers broke off two and two to take the students, the one Alexei had wounded turning towards Caine with a .300 bullet in his arm, rendering him unable to fire his assault rifle and instead using his sidearm to fire at Caine.

Alexei's speed, enhanced by Hades, was keeping him clear of the rifle fire coming at him from the soldiers as he advanced. He managed to get in close, forcing them to attack hand-to-hand. One blade came up, blocked by the rifle stock. They were probably hardened materials for close-combat, since the soldiers expected to be fighting short-range specialists like the SeeDs. His other blade managed to knock the other soldier's gun barrel away, firing instead into the rock behind him.
"Don't let him get away!" Alexei yelled to Miles, meaning the assassin.

It was soon after the boulder fell that Caine came out and got right into the action. He felled a soldier, rather messily, but it was nothing too new to Miles. She wasn't one for such an attack although it wasn't about to make her sick.

That left only about half of the original group and they were making good time. "Yessir!" She answered tersely as Alexandrov left a gun behind but brought his gunblades and went down to join Caine. She cast a Haste spell on Caine to help him out, seeing as Alexandrov seemed to be moving quickly as it was.

From his second command, she knew exactly who to target. Originally, she was going to pick off the wounded soldier, but an order was not to be ignored. She quickly shot off a Fire spell at the assassin. Certain that wouldn't be enough, Miles also cast a Thunder spell just to be sure that the assassin was effectively stopped.

As soon as the magic spells hit the hooded figure...the assassin let out a hissing laugh. The black cloak she wore singed at the chest, and electrical sparks surged up her arms from beneath, "Clever girl..." She spoke in high raspy voice, letting out another hissing laugh, "But...weak para-magic isss no good againssst me..." Rising, the hood that had covered her face revealed an ironclad mask that was tightly wrapped around, hiding bright shoulder length hair. Glowing, piercing blue eyes looked up into the sky before casting a glance at Miles.

"You sssoldiers are usssless!" She cried, looking to the men who couldn't defeat even kids, "You wish to play little girl?" She taunted Miles, giggling in a hiss before her hands shot out on either side of her, revealing razor sharp Katars, "Then show me what you got..." With abnormal speed, the woman ran toward the spell caster in a black blur, her bladed weapons trailing behind before she lifted the Katar in her right hand; and with a violent swing, brought it over her head, aimed at striking Miles in the skull.

That laugh scared her; she never heard anything like it before from a human being. The burn mark and sparks showed that her spells had hit, but the assassin still stood. She could tell that the woman was speaking, but it was difficult to hear her from atop the cliff.

She couldn't say for sure, but Miles was certain that she had been spotted. And she was absolutely sure of it once the assassin showed her Katars. Instinctively, she reached for her anelace but her opponent was faster than she thought. The moment she had her weapon in her right hand was the moment the blade was above her head. She quickly deflected the blow with her blade but the force of it almost knocked her over.

Thankfully, she wasn't done yet. A stern look was on her face as she presumed her fighting stance. "It's not going to be that easy for you." Miles knew from the mask that this assassin was wearing armor and so the places she could strike might be protected...but she had to take the chance. There was only one way to find out. She ran at the assassin and slashed at her enemy's left arm. It was tough, but if the blow landed, she would only have to deal with one Katar instead of two.

((Sorry for being so heavy-handed with the spells before...I had no idea that you were playing the assassin, otherwise I would have done things differently. I edited the last post to be a little less awful.))

Caine attacks the next solder as Miles aims her spells at the assassin, taking him down in a similar fashion to the first. This one was prepared however, and fires a shot off before he is struck, hitting Caine in the right shoulder. With a grunt of pain he cuts down his opponent and glances at the would. It hurt, but it wasn't anything he couldn't handle. He had taken bullets before.
As he pauses, he hears the words of the assassin and he looks up in time to see her go speeding towards Miles. He wanted to go and help her, but there were still three soldiers blocking the way. He thought he could get by though, with the use of the haste spell.
He targets the closest soldier and casts stop on him, making the man freeze instantly. He remembered they were asked to take prisoners, so instead of striking him down he moves to attack the first of the two remaining soldiers.

Alexei's blades caught the rifle barrels again, pushing them out of the way. One of the soldier's feet came up and caught the side of his head, but he rolled with the impact and came up with his gunblade cutting through the air, slashing the soldier's side, then he turned, burying the edge of the other blade into his shoulder as he lashed out to kick the remaining soldier back.

As he did, he caught a glimpse of Miles and the assassin fighting. He knew she wasn't a short-range combat expert, she wouldn't last long against the hardened assassin. He cast thunder on the last soldier standing, sending him to the ground before finishing him off with downward stabs from both gunblades. He looked up to see that Caine had incapacitated the final soldier with a stop spell. Good.

"Hades, prepare yourself," he said as he looked towards the ridge above.

'I'm ready. Shall I be unleashed?'

"Yes."
