Ryu has lived a very complicated life; It was blessed, and cursed at the same time. He was born the son of The Demon of the Mist, Zabuza Momochi. His Mother was Mei Terumī, the fifth Mizukage of Kirigakure. Growing up, none of the Village kids would be his friend, no matter how nice he was, they always thought he was getting special treatment because he was the son of the Mizukage. He was always beat up by the other kids and his mother. An ANBU or one of the Seven Swordsmen would come and save him. He hardly knew is father, but what he had heard is that he was legendary with a sword. Before Zabuza left on his final mission, he left his sword in care of Ryu's Mother. She would keep it safe till he was old enough to use it.

When Ryu went to the Academy, they said that he was a ninja prodigy. He picked up every jutsu that he was tought and he learned the he had a Kekkei Genkai, that Mei called Ranton or storm release. It was lightning that moved and acted like water that exploded on impact. The Academy years flew by and he soon graduated at the top of the class better then any other student ninja has done in years.

When Ryu became a Genin, he started training with the remaining members of the Seven Swordsmen. They trained him in both Kenjutsu and Taijutsu. He picked them up quickly and could use them both fluidly in combat with extreme leathality. His Mother was extremely proud of what a great ninja he was starting to become. During one of his missions, he was simply to escort a Jounin back to Konoha. On the way there, an ambush was set for the Jounin. The Jounin was outnumbered and out matched by the attacking ninja. Ryu stood by him even though the other team members had fled from the fight. With the little help from Ryu, the Jounin was able to return to Konoha alive. Ryu was allowed to stay in Konoha for a little while and meet the Hokage, Tsunade. She treated him nicely and introduced him to Sakura and the two of them soon became great friends. She showed him all over the village but soon Ryu had to return home but they wrote each other every day.

The Chunin exams were coming up and Ryu went into special training with the Swordsmen once again. They prepared him for his matches and he learned many new jutsu and skills. Ryu made it to the final fight and he was getting worked over big time by his opponent. Ryu didn't know how he was going to win, then he remembered a move he once saw from a Ninja in Konoha, Chidori. Ryu focused and channeled his chakra, he was able to to perform the hand signs and the launched at his opponent, the judges called the fight before Ryu could land his attack. Ryu was so happy that he had passed and won, and to have Sakura right there to root and cheer him on.

Once he became a Chunin, his mother passed down his father's sword to him and the Swordsmen trained him in the technique and skill of using it properly and correctly. He was given several High-risk missions, which all were finished flawlessly and on some of the Missions, Sakura and him were able to team up. For his actions during the exams and as a genin, The ANBU recruitment team got to him when he was made a chunin. He trained under some of the best ANBU members and he was highly successful during his missions. The ANBU were so pleased with his actions they made him a full fledged ANBU member. He soon became the best ANBU in all of Kirigakure and Konoha. Soon after this his Mother was able to promote him to Jounin and make him one of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist.

He had proven himself to the other ANBU and was made a squad leader his team. He was so successful he was chosen to be the new Leader of the ANBU. Ryu and Sakura grew very close to each other and he had always had a crush on her but he was always afraid of telling her, both the Hokage and the Mizukage knew this and kept putting them on missions together when ever they could and any free time they had it was spent together. Ryu grew from a kid who was picked on and beat up to become a legendary ninja from Kiri and he was known throughout the lands for his mastery of Water, Wind, Lightning and his Storm Jutsu. But even more so his skills in Kenjutsu were second to known along with his Tiajutsu.
