-Purchase Prompt-

The last time Lizzy had entered this shop, she had barely given it a second glance. This time, she was sure to inspect every nook and cranny that she could without raising too much suspicion. With a thump, she settled down on the floor in between the first two shelves. She wasn't sure what she was looking for, but this spot seemed as good as any to begin searching.

The shop keeper peered her head around to glance at Lizzy, but didn't commit her to her memory. Lizzy thanked the ceiling that it wasn't the same woman; she wasn't quite in the mood to awkwardly ask whether an oil burner could birth a child. No, she'd rather save herself the embarrassment and solve this mystery on her own accord.

The library of aromas laid before her, each scent with a sleeping child waiting to be brought to life. It was as if she was God, and that thought vertiginously shook her. Did she have the right to choose who was granted life? She didn't have too much time to contemplate, as for people began to trickle into her aisle. She stood up, relieving everyone of the bother of having to step over her campsite. The scent names blurred in her peripherals as she left the aisle.

Not feeling quite comfortable with deciding herself, she'd let fate guide her hand to an oil burner. Slowly she closed her eyes; intuition tugged her forward. A few peaks and strange looks later, her fingers grazed the side of a burner. The decision was made; Loco-coco motion was the winner. The shop keeper gave her a peculiar look as she rang Lizzy out, but Lizzy shrugged it off. At this point, suspicion couldn't bring her anymore attention then she hadn't already brought to herself. A cat's bell jangled as she shut the door behind her.

“I see her in there!” Pana declared as she inspected the unlit oil burner. Her amber eyes rose over the chocolate swirled oil as she stood up to better gauge Lizzy’s reaction. There it was, the shocked expression again; lighting another burner and bringing forth another child wouldn’t change that. Oh well, at least she would have someone to play with now.

“You see her?” Lizzy choked, and looked directly at Pana. “But, it’s just oil! How can you see her?”

“I don’t know” Pana shrugged, “You just have to open your eyes to it.”

Pana hopped a bit, excitement propelling her. Lizzy wasn’t ready, true, but Pana would be a good big sister! She already had the adventures planned out in her mind. It didn’t even occur to her that maybe they wouldn’t get along.

“So, no idling! Let’s go! Let’s go!” Pana giggled and bounced towards Lizzy. “Let’s prove that I’m real.”

Lizzy looked set aback at the last statement, regardless of the truth in it. However, she nodded with determination and followed her daughter’s orders. Maybe Pana was right, she just needed to open her eyes and trust in things such as magic. But since she had gone this far, she might as well finish her plan. She flicked the lighter on and ignited the candle.

A moment barely passed before they breathed in the rich aroma in one swift intake; they slowly exhaled, their senses jerking forward. Mind, body and soul seemed caught in the momentum. Milk chocolate dances on the tip of their tongues as a white chocolate smoke billows out of the oil burner and envelops the room. As their mind slows, dark chocolate suddenly makes a grandiose appearance, threatening to overtake the other two essences. They reached the final stop. The three aromas swirled together in a quiet feud, molding into a soft, yet abounding smoke that licks the tops of the ceiling.

“Woah…” Pana stated, “… LETS DO THAT AGAIN!”

It was raining-again. The rolling thunder shook the apartment in between the pitter-patters of the rain drops hitting the window glass. Lizzy laid on the couch, tightly rolled in her comforter. A book lay before her, the pages flipping every now and then. Finishing her chapter, Lizzy looked up at Pana only to find her asleep. She was curled up by the window; the soothing rhyming of the storm must have lulled her to sleep. Lizzy sighed contently as she wiggled her way out of her cocoon. Even if motherhood had come early, it still had its tender moments.

Which reminded her…where was the burner?

Her and Pana had incessantly kept the oil lit, their anticipation too abundant to bear. It had only been a few days but the shared experience of being a guardian of the flame had bonded them. And even if Pana was just a figment of her imagination, there was no harm in having fun with it, right? Getting up, she walked over to the kitchen table. It had indeed gone out. Even more, there were only a few drops of oil left.

Lizzy considered her options; Pana would definitely like to watch, if a child really did come out. On the other hand, who was to be sure that it would actually happen? (well, besides Pana, she doesn’t count) Well, her sanity was on the line; she lit the candle for the last time.

At first, nothing happen. She sat there for at least fifteen minutes, but nothing. Where was this grand eruption? Lizzy could hear Pana talking in her sleep in the living room. Something about a savannah and Indians, which don’t really go together. Lizzy’s stomach growled. Well, I’m sure a small snack wouldn’t hurt. Nothing would happen if she left for five minutes, right?

So she bounced into the kitchen, burying her head into the fridge. She was contemplating whether she’d rather eat the cake or eat a sandwich (the cake always wins, there is no question) when a HEY interrupted her thoughts. Pana was calling her.

Lizzy bolted over to the table, leaving the fridge door wide open. Pana greeted her with a quick disapproving glance, one that stated a WHY DID YOU LIGHT IT WITHOUT ME so of stance, but impatiently returned her attention to the events unfolding before them.

Light protruded from the oil burner; it shook violently like an approaching train would its tracks. The momentum continued to build until in an instant it stopped. There wasn’t even a second for them to think that it was over before it exploded, oil splattering away from its source. They both covered their eyes with their arms to protect them from being covered. Bringing their arms away from their faces, it was immediately apparent that someone stood where the oil burner once did. And that someone was most definitely a little girl.

Pana’s immediate thought was, YAAY!

Lizzy’s immediate thought was, Oh Shi-
