here's what i believe, just for the sake of getting it out. I believe that if you believe it it exists. Therefore, heaven exists for Christians, and Jews, and anyone else who wants it to. Therefore hypothetically, hell also exists, but only for those who believe in heaven. HOPE im not making anyone confused or angry. Continuing, therefore if there is someone way out in the middle of nowhere who believes that there is a giant Typewriter who is god, for him and therefore everyone, that typewriter exists, even if he's the only one who thinks its there. He's the only one who can access it. make sense? so for me, i believe in the summerland, where the spirit rests between reincarnations. Also, i believe if you really screw up (ex. Hitler) there is a reincarnation sector, where you are tested, and told why what you did was wrong, how to fix it and other such information. Before you are returned to earth. Ghosts, are people who loved the earth so mush they felt they could never ever leave, so their spirit left an imprint as a guardian to protect the earth.
(i thinks thats how my "spirit guide" explained it to me)

ok, well this is going to take a lil bit and hopefully not get too convoluted, anyways, here goes.
I believe that there are different plains that we exist on at different times, at least two. one plain is this one, where we live and learn whatever it is that we are here to learn. spirits from the other plain can interact with ua as well, tho some are better at it than others.
we die, either randomly or when we have finished what we have come here to learn. when we do die, we go to the other plain that could be perceived has heaven. here, we look over our achivements in this life and all other past lives. there is a never ending loop that one goes through. if one feels that there is something that still needs to be learned/experienced, then we return to the live plain where we only have some memory of any past lives. when on the ?higher? plain, we can interact with the ?lower? plain as chosen, depending on our experiences. some spirits chose to act as a guide and therefore spend very little time in the ?higher? plain.
hmm, now that i think ive gotten off topic and rambled for awhile, i'll be going to ramble elsewhere whee

I dont know if someones said this or not (i havent looked at all the other posts yet), but i like the idea around reincarnation as described in Wicca: A guide to the solitary practitioner. Basically what i get out of it is that there is no hell. no eternal punishment. punishment for the things you do wrong come in your current life; the three-fold law or whathaveyou. Whatever you do comes back times three. That is your punishment. Then, when you die, you are sent to (basically) paradise. There you stay until you are reborn. The idea is that a single lifetime is not enough to perfect a humans soul. so each of your lifetimes is a chance to make your soul better. once you have reached that perfection, when you die you are (i guess) sent to reside with the god and goddess. If you continue to be bad, and screw up your lives, you are just reincarnated over and over again. At least, thats what i got out of that chapter anyways.
I really like this idea, it makes everything seem much more..i dunno..reasonable, it just makes sense.

That is what I, sort of, believe as well. We come back until we have learned wisdom in a way.

this is a really interesting topic. it seems all the answers i want to give rely on making one's soul "better" or "more perfect". but then what defines what's good for a soul? i guess my problem with souls that get better with each reincarnation is that people don't seem to be getting any better, but then that's just one definition of "better". wow, im getting more confused the more i think about it. i don't know what i believe, but perhaps it's something like what heiwa/Astra said, where what actually happens depends on what you believe in. except then how could someone like Hitler go to a place where he would be told about the mistakes of that life, when to him he didn't make mistakes? i mean, his derranged mind told him that was what he was supposed to do. so im confused. maybe i believe that the universe is just one big jumbled mess, and we're all rattling round in it, past lives and future lives and summerlands and heavens and hells and reincarnations and gods and goddesses and just everything, and we're all mixed up in it somehow. it would explain a lot, but it's not a very comforting theory, im afraid. im so confused!

My friend Abbe believes that there are many differnet dementions we can live in. Everytime we return we come to a different demention, of course with that more questions arise. Are all the dementions different, and how? People? The laws of nature and man? Could there be different gods for different dementions? This isn't helping anyone any but it just came to my mind. It's hard to think of what's next sometimes because there seem to be so many answers.

there's so many answers, and no way to know if one is more right than another! i was thinking, maybe all of time happens all at once. instead of just being one long stream of events that happen one after another, everything happens at exactly the same time. so, while you're living today, you're also living tomorrow, and yesterday, and somewhere in there Alexander the Great is living too. another idea would be that we each live in our own world, and no two worlds are the same. that's sort of like what you were saying with the dimentions thing, i think. or maybe there's loads and loads of dimensions that represent one world but changing every detail to what could have been. so there's a world out there in which i decided not to type this but wrote about chocolate chip cookies instead. only that doesn't seem like a very plausible idea, because there would have to be soooooo many worlds. wow, there's some worlds i would love to visit. this seems like something from Phillip Pullman's books, doesn't it?

If you're interested, you should try to find the Great Mystery books or Reincarnation and Life after Death, I found them at my library at school and I really like them. ^^ Anyways...

Personally, I don't believe in hell, noone desurves eternal damnation, that's just nuts. surprised ((In my opinion you know, I'm not trying to be rude to anyone sweatdrop )) I believe that when we die, we go to a form of the Christan Heaven, but really it can be whatever we want, a huge forest, a dungeun, whatever you want and you're not really tied to a specific place or look, this would be a time of relfextion. Contemplate your past life and catch up with those loved ones who died before you and when you're ready, get rencarnated into a new body to start the cycle again until you are really ready, you can stay in this paradise forever, unless you want to go back for another life, there are a lot of choices I believe. And as to ghosts, I beleive you can opt to become a ghost for a while, years or even just like a week to say goodbye. My view includes a lot of choices. O.o sweatdrop I hope that explains it well enough. xd

That pretty much fits my beliefs. I believe we go through a series of lifes with rests in the middle until we have found a way to make ourselves complete.

I don't believe that souls stay in just one shape though. How animals work I'm not sure but I am a steadfast believer in Otherkin .. animals and the like being born into human bodies, and vice versa.

I think reincarnation can work on a much larger scale. I also think that some people choose to forego rejoining the god and goddess. Like the bodhisvatta's of Buddhism, some people stick around to act as guides and help other people out.

This is an honest question. As Wiccans, do you believe in a heaven or a hell? Ivy told me something about it, but I have a short term memory and I forgot, sorry. I know that I don't believe in a Hell, even as a Catholic, but I would like to hear all of your perspectives on the afterlife, or any absence of an afterlife. Thanks a lot. *hugs everyone*
I really think this is hell sometimes lol

You know, I just though of this a few days ago- If the afterlife is so perfect and we're going to reincarnate anyway, or something, why live life, if the hereafter is so much better? And if we think that it could be so much better, why do we stick around? It must be the instinct to survive, because in this day and age, the afterlife seems like a pretty welcome choice. But I don't want to die (yet).

I know I probably just through a wrench in the works of this thread, but that was a voice in the back of my mind, and it just had to get out in the open you know? I can't say I don't believe that, but, I can't explain it, it was just something that needed to be said. I need opinions.

I basically agree with what someone said about what you believe in happening. In that case, I will be going to the summerland, spending time there for a while, catching up, meeting people, then being reincarnated.

There are a lot of ideas as to what happens after life but I've never even considered why we want to live for so long if death is so great. According to Catholics, we need to serve god and live our lives as best to serve him and help others, suicide is a sin. I think in wicca, we need to live out our lives to do they things we need to go on to the after world or we are just reincarnated yet again.

It is my beliefe that when we die we go to a place called the summerland where we rest our spirit and go through the lessons that we learned in our past life, I think this is also a place where you can meet spirits that have past that have not moved on to there next carnation. I view summerland as just that, a land of eternal summer, beautiful nature in full bloom.
My views are very similar to Ivy.

I haven't met a lot of people in here who do believe in hell really. I guess that's not odd being a wiccan guild it's just odd due to our society seems to have a firm belief in it.
