Actually the reason that the USA dropped nukes was because just 2 days earlier the Soviet Union had declared war on Japan in an effort to help the US end the war quickly. This is what happened next :

I don't believe that to be the sole reason, though it was probably the most substantial one. If we had competitors in dominating capital, our control of the market would be out of our hands, and we'd be a 2nd-3rd world country again.
Not just that but, would Truman have wanted STALIN to have a share in Japans rich industrial and economic potential (remember the red scare)?
I think by 1945 America wasnt that scared of competing with the old power houses, Britain was (is) a shadow of its former self, Germany just got pwned, most of Europe isnt interested in imperialism rather mere recovery from the ravages of the Nazis. The Soviet Union on the other hand.......

Variant of Capitalism. They have free market, people compete, workers are hired and exploited while the few get richer. It's capitalism. I know it may appear differently because japan's workers are some of the best paid per hour employees in the world, which is awesome, meaning they are not suffering that badly, but here in America, we are. And based on japan's continuingly dwindling profit margin, they're going to be forced to cut back on the wages and benefits of their employees so the burgeoisie of japan can continue to live with the same imperial rule over society.
I heard a story that during the 90's recession some Japanese CEO's actually took pay cut as opposed to making the workers suffer, awesome of them but I doubt this will ever happen again.
Even if it does, the end result is the same. Those that take the cuts for the workers become petty burgeoisie, those who do not establish a firmer, tight, more rich burgeoisie that no one else can ever reach, and the proleteriat still continues to get poor despite this. The petty burgeoisie continues to cut their wages, and boom, they're proleteriat. If they do not cut their wages, they'll be bought out by the major burgeoisie anyhow. The middle class always dies, expand or die, thats the ethos of capitalism. No different in Japan or America.
Reminds me of an old MMO I used to play (Travian), a game where you get to build a small town and make it grow buy expanding recourses and training troops. Its hard for starting villiages because the big players who have started earlier simply kill new players and laugh at them.

Sounds like a trivial version of the real world and it's economy, if you ask me.

"We have resources and our lives are great, equality, healthy society, and... wait, is that a smoke cloud of capitalism rushing our way?"

...

Player 2 has been defeated.

Capitalism = Player 1?
Hey, Fuedal Japan was player 2. Spain and America's capitalism, along with religious nonsense, came to destroy much of shintoism and the ways of the people. Causing massive industrialization and the elimination, more like execution, of the samurai.

What emerged was fascist Japan, which became player 3, eliminating itself so that the developed world would allow the new japan to be ruled by one man and his men. Fuedalism was uprooted, destroyed, and everly downplayed wherever it may appear, militarism being the dominate force in society, ultimately little different between men with guns oppressing the village people and men with swords doing the same, but I digress. Their militarism in exchange for resources was what capitalism of the Euro nations and America wanted, and gained, but then they had to take care of the problem they created.... the wave of capitalism rushed in again, destroying Fascist Japan..

Player 2= Player 3 = destroyed.

Player 4, which is modern day Capitalist Japan, took power under the same emperor at the time so that they may continue to at least pretend to govern their own society. This has gone on until present day, their resources and economy being a large portion of the World Market. Japan has become an economic powerhouse, but America likes to believe it's claws in it's nation will force them to continue to do America's bidding... and it's true, player 4 is in essence a slave to Player 1.

Player 1 and Player Red were in direct combattance over the world's resources.. .they each saw Japan as a potential puppet nation to meet their own ends, but player Red was battling with it's own monarchy in the late 1800's into the next century, whil America had complete power i conquering Japan's ideologies with it's own and making it it's own source of resources.

Player 1 and Player Red developed into quite fierce enemies, each wanting the resources so that the other may not have it, Player Red, however, did not anticipate that Player 1 would utterly crush all resistance with a resource destroying bomb and a childish mentality of "if we can't have it, neither will you" ... Player Red in utter shock just began a giant staring contest with Player 1 for the next 30 years... until it's own government again faced unease, political erosion, and economical collapse. Player 1 again came out on top, nuking it's cake, and having it, too.

Japan was a source of...rice? Both countries, the so called exploiter and the supposed exploitee, were happily making boatloads of money, until Japanese expansion prompted the US to restrict shipments of scrap metal to Japan.

Then, the allies became painfully aware of the childish "you can't have it because we won't let go of it" mentality of Stalin. Though this race to claim axis territory did not apply to Japan, which the Russians were fine leaving to the Americans.

The Americans were like "dayum these guys are batshit crazy, we're not setting foot on that country", and they tested out their new toy on two Japanese cities. They then proceeded to feed and educate the entire country, and the two nations went back to making boatloads of money.

Russia and America went on proceeded to have a rather long and pointless staring contest.

Japan is Capitalist, has been since the Meiji Restoration which was Japan's top-down bureaucratic bourgeois revolution, similar to the one Bismark pulled in Germany, and the top-down bureaucratic proletarian revolution that occurred in Eastern Europe after WWII.

At the end of the war, the SU declared war on Japan, and had started siezing Japanese territory. In order to stop the Russians from taking the main islands before the Imperialists, the US dropped nukes to 1: scare the Japanese into surrendering, and 2: to tell the Soviets "We have big-bada-boom. You STFU and GTFO of Japan NAO!"

In a war between the US and Japan, the correct demand for communists is, and always will be "The main enemy is at home! Turn the imperialist war into a revolutionary civil war!" As such, we can't be like the CPUSA which declared during WWII:
"In the United States we have to win the war [against Japan] under the capitalist system.... Therefore, we have to find out how to make the capitalist system work.... We have to help the capitalists to learn how to run their system."
--Earl Browder, then leader of the CPUSA

This is ******** on two points: Social-Chauvinism--It is saying that the American working class has an interest in the outcome of the inter-imperialist war between two capitalist powers, and Reformism--The view that the working class can reform the capitalist system to make it better serve their needs, in this case, the percieved need was the fratricidal slaughter of the Japanese workers and peasants.

Okay, they Export their cars to other countries. They have almost no space to even use the cars they make, and have to buy completely seperate parking spaces off the road to make it legal for them to drive, and the space costs over $50,000 for them to keep it per year. They are a Communist country, but for some reason I dont like their particular views on society. Im definately okay with Russia's Communism, America's Capitalism/Imperialism I live in the United States as well as Germany's ex-Fascism. But Japan? This country for some reason sticks out (I my oppinion) to be possibly the lamest, saddest excuse for a communist country. Think about this. They are small, and population is exremely high. Their building are small compared to those of the us in the United States, who could definately overrun their defences if it came to war with them. The only advantage I'd say they have to the United States is being far more technologically advanced then the United States. In a case of war between the United States and Japan, who do you think would win the war? And yes I know the possibility of war between Japan and the U.S. is so low it probably will never happen but Im just curious as to what you think.

Okay. Marxism 101. The expansion of industrial production combined with free competition results in the overproduction of commodities. Because there is more than can be sold, the prices of these commodities go spiraling downward. (like the auto industry in japan). Now production models like this are only inherent in Capitalist countries. Japan is not Communist. Now I'm not sure you heard the news but Russia is not longer and never was a communist country.

If you're okay with America's Capitalism then I see no reason why your in this guild. Just because you live in America does not make its practices okay because whether you acknowledge it or not, America ******** over almost every worker in the world and if you're "okay" with that then don't you dare call yourself a communist. Stop with the social chauvinist bullshit.

How can the same country that is home to the Zaibatsu be communist?
PostPosted: Wed Dec 09, 2009 4:00 pm

I would point out a few historical inaccuracies not dealt with.

Operation August Thunder, commanded by Zhukov and others, steam rolled Manchuria and other Japanese Territories. The agreements which allowed the Soviet Union to declare war on Japan (whom they had a nonaggression pact with since 1939) stated that the SU would declare war on Japan two months after the end of the war in the European Theatre. The agreement allowed the SU to have occupation zones in Vietnam and Korea (areas taken by the Japanese) as well as over any territory which they conquered - territories belonging to former Manchukuo were ceded back to China, who the Russians had a working relationship with, and had been helping under the table since Operation Zet, etc etc.

The SU was also well aware of the Atom bomb and had been developing their own for some time when Truman announced to them the completion of the Atom Bomb (made all the more clearer by news of the successful testing). The SU's response was to tell Truman that not only did they know about the Atom Bomb, but they had other weapons as well of an equally destructive nature (rocketry, bio/chemical). Truman was shocked, and if anything that shock drove him to nuke Japan in short order, I'm convinced.

I would also note that Browder had turned politically rotten, that is a liquidationist, sometime around 1943, proved all the more by is motion to dissolve the CPUSA at the end of the war. I would not take him to represent the main Communist line (which was to refound the Party and work on its own, but this was rather ineffectual as McCarthyism effectively liquidated the Party again).

Japan in the proto-capitalist/Feudal stage was big into the silver trade, although rice was certainly its most important commodity for ages (particularly in the Tokugawa period where it was a sort of currency).
