Nodding in thanks, he edged slightly behind her, hoping his pale face didn't stand too much out against his darker cloak. He could see the too boys taking a slightly defensive stance, although he could sense no malice from them, albeit there was fear, but that could just be him.

 Sothe stepped forward, angling himself so that Edward was behind him. "Who's there?" he asked, trying to keep any hint of anger out of his voice, although a hand slid to a dagger's hilt.

Although he really wanted to bury his face into the cat woman's shoulder, he knew she probably would not like that. Instead, he kept his head up, and looked with frightened eyes at the boy, and his eyes did not miss the fact his had had slid to his dagger. Wishing he had a weapon, Avalbane just kept both hands over his heart, and it was already beating rapidly.

 Edward took up a slightly defensive stance but lowered his weapon. The one at the back of the pair seemed nearly terrified.
I wonder what's up with him, he thought.
"How about this: we won't hurt you if you don't hurt us. Just say who you are and where you come from," he advised, his voice low.

"I-I'm Avalbane..." His low voice managed to find its way out of his throat. Briefly, he wondered if they could hear him.

Sothe nodded, lowering his hand from his dagger as his thief ears adjusted to hear the other's voice. "I am Sothe," he introduced. "And this is Edward."

Stepping out from behind the woman, he nodded, although still holding his hands over his heart, it was still beating wildly.

Edward sheathed his sword and nodded.
"Avalbane?" he wanted to make sure he'd heard the name right.

Avalbane nodded, quite aware about how damsel in distress he looked. Of course, all that nodding and shaking meant his hood fell off-- again.

Raevynn didn't say anything as the youths approached. Though she never REALLY had anything against beorc in general... you could never tell if they were the sort that hated laguz or didn't mind. Raevynn had a nice big scar that told her just to assume the latter.
And then the boy-Avalbane's-hood fell off. Raevynn sighed. It wasn't his fault, but it was starting to become common place...
Raevynn stepped in front of Avalbane, blocking between Edward and Sothe. She hoped they didn't make the mistake...
And then Raevynn's hood fell off. The wind must have swooped around and got it at a different angle. Raevynn moved to cover herself up again, but it was too late; her ears were in plain sight of everyone to see. Raevynn snarled, readying herself for whatever may have come next.

Sothe's eyes widened slightly at the sight before him, but put up his hands immediately. "No no, it's allright. We have nothing against the laguz," he said, using the proper term to show his respect.

Edward blinked as the girl's hood fell back, revealing her ears. He wasn't sure what to say, but put his hands up.
"So... uh... we really can't afford a fight right now..." he tried to sound as friendly as he could while still being careful. "I think it's safe to say you're not from Begnion, but what about that guy Avalbane?"

Avalbane still whimpered, after all, they didn't say anything about Branded.

Raevynn breathed a sigh of relief. "I guess that's ok then. I'm Raevynn. I was actually born here in Daein... so you can never really be sure who to trust. And I'm not sure; I just met the boy myself. But I know he's not out to get us; look at his face." Raevynn didn't want to bring up anything about Avalbane being a parentless. Laguz may be okay by them, but who knew about the Branded, an abomination of the goddess...
Raevynn examined the beorc youths. One of them had a sword strapped to his hip, and the other was dressed very much like a rogue. "Aren't you beorc a little young to be fighters?"

Sothe glared at her. "I am not young!" he said, covering his mouth with his scarf as his voice cracked again. "Ashera's fire this sucks..." he said, mainly to himself.
