Drewser 3 things to that, for the first quote, what about freedom of speach? Freedom of speech =/= Freedom to disturb the peace, assuming that you mean caroling. (That is to say, you may speak freely and even publicly without fear of imprisonment, but wassailing cuts into other peoples' "not hearing tone-deaf neighbors" time. Particularly after 10 pm.) Quote: Second if you don't care about christmas, why are you bothering to ban what others like to do? I'm not. I simply don't care that some schmuck can't carol. 'Fact, I don't have the authority to ban anything. Quote: Instituionalizing Ignorance AAAAAHAHAHAHAHA, trying to ban something you don't like, that sounds more ignorant. Ahem. What's the false dichotomy here, chief? Allowing Christmas caroling or fascism? Seems that way, I keep hearing "freedom" and yet I'm not seeing one scintilla of understanding of what the word means. AmmonSuperCombo first off, it has noything else to do with other holidays so why call it a holiday tree? it is a symbol exclusive to christmas. Want to bet the farm on that? Mind you, "french fries" are still called "french fries," although the change to "freedom fries" was instituted in the House cafeteria; "holiday tree" exists in a similar context, so why are we worried? Oh no! The state capitol has a dorky name for its tree! Quote: is the menorah(sp) a holiday candle holder? The one they put up at city hall in Jewtown? Probably. Quote: a yamaka(sp) a holiday hat? No, it's really got nothing to do with the holidays. (Christmas trees and menorahs have, however.) Quote: how about we make everything related to kwanza generic by saying holiday? Everything about Kwanzaa IS generic. It's a secular holiday. I notice that after the whole Christmas thing was introduced, discussion of the Pledge of Allegiance (which has ******** all to do with Christmas; do you say it when you go to school on Christmas morning?) fell off. So; Pledge of Allegiance. Homer Ferguson. Little Moscovites.

I am a firm atheist. But personally, I think all of these "ban chirstmas eveything!!" Athesits give us a bad name. This is America. "Land of the Free." Freedom of religion. Freedom of speech. Let people celebrate chirstmas. Im sure you dont like the christains judging or try to change us, so dont do it to them.

I think "Under God" should be kept:
1. Although this part of the Oath of Allegance was added in the 20th Century, AMERICA WAS SET UP AS A CHRISTIAN COUNTRY, BY CHRISTIANS!!!!!!!! - Look at your Constitution people!
2. If you don't like it - IT IS YOUR OATH OF ALLEGANCE! You can't change it 'cause 1000 moaners make a fuss!
3. If the moaners hadn't started shouting - WHO THE **** WOULD CARE, SO IT ISN'T AN ISSUE!
4. As for Christmas - I mourn (Even though I am a Christian) at Christmas because it is so NON-Christian.
5. This thread is going down a tangent!

No. America was set up as a country with total freedom of religion, by Deists and Unitarians. You totally, totally fail American History 101. Why can't you change it? They changed it in the 50's, after no one made a fuss, just to distinguish us from the Red Commie Bastards, remember? Also, dissent is one of the only things that really makes Democracy great. Those "moaners" are utilizing their freedom to dissent and to b***h. When people b***h, things get changed, laws get passed. That's how the system works. Learn it, or shut up.

Quote: 2. If you don't like it - IT IS YOUR OATH OF ALLEGANCE! You can't change it 'cause 1000 moaners make a fuss! well, it is the oath as well. They want to be proud of it, and they have problems with it and may wish to make it something that they are proud of. Quote: 3. If the moaners hadn't started shouting - WHO THE **** WOULD CARE, SO IT ISN'T AN ISSUE! the same with several other movements, including abolishment of slavery, civil rights, etc. Quote: 4. As for Christmas - I mourn (Even though I am a Christian) at Christmas because it is so NON-Christian. Christmas is still very Christian, just the way in which many people choose to celebrate it, and the companies exploiting it as a national holiday, but it does not change what they are supposed to be celebrating. Quote: 5. This thread is going down a tangent! and what is wrong with that?

I can sum up the argument for the stopping of religious connection in our government and schools.
Curch and State = seperate.
And that was an idea made by our founding fathers, go figure. Does that sound like a statement someone who wanted a 'christian nation' would make?

Does that sound like a statement someone who wanted a 'christian nation' would make? Ok, first what state church are we adding or endorsing, second the wall of separation was in a letter addressed to the Virginia house on their free religion clause, not the US one, and it was by one founding father not all of them. And to go further to the point, why say church and state if they wanted a non-Christian nation they would have said religion and state. But they said church and state because; they were with one exception all Christian, they never wanted a non-Christian nation merely a non-church controlled government(big difference there). edit: also there is legeslative prayer, judical prayer, legeslative chaplins, military chaplins, etc. not a christian nation right, then why did they have these things?

And you act like a church controlled state is different from a religious controlled state? A church is a relgious body, duh. We already have enough religous strife in this country because everyone thinks there ways is aright and can't get along with the other religons. Sadly enough, christians, whos religons is supposedly one of the most accepting ones in the world, has some of the worst extremist in dealing with others that aren't christians. I hate to reference a reality tv show, but that one trading spouses show (the only one I evered watch too) where the 'devout christian' mom goes absolutely nuts simply because things aren't exactly the way she wants them and because one kid isn't christian. And her family is like 50 times worse tot he mom who tryies to be openminded toward their views of neo-evangelical chirstianity. Obvious;y this is a one end of the specturm example. But all too many people are actually like that. Do you have any idea how much worse it would get if suddenly their religon was the 'official' religion of the nation? In their wacked out minds, proving them right? All freaking hell would break loose. Those people have to be some of the-most vengful people I know, yet also believe themselves totally flawless and perfect and right in every way, and that everyone else is going to hell and they've got enteral paradise. I really don't want that kind of person having their religon being 'official' to just embolded them even more.
