..Also, if I hear one more person call the LotR books a 'trilogy,' I'm going to scream. .___.; It's NOT a trilogy, and was never intended to be.

It's not? O_O So it's just one volume, broken up into three parts?

Exactly. It was Tolkien's publishers who wanted it broken up into parts, to increase the 'suspense' among readers.
Tolkien himself wrote it as one volume...though even then, it was divided into 'books'...much more than three, however.

Ohhhh...
Yeah, it always struck me that the transitions between books were like it was one big book...
but if they published it as one volume it would be too big to carry around. XD

It'd be quite impressive, though. Just think about plopping that down on the table with a resounding 'thud.' xD

Yesssss. <3
Actually, that's what my leather-bound copy of the Silmarillion is for, but I imagine either would be effective.

Nerdanel the Ever-wise I'm still convinced I'm the only one who actually enjoyed the Silmarillion, more so than LotR or the Hobbit. I like the Silm as well, once I got a handle on who the humans are, and who the elves. The sheer amount of names throws me off, at times. With your name, I don't have to guess who your favourite characters are. wink Nowadays they do publish the book as one, and not in three parts. My version is all-in-one. And has the Nazgul on the cover, since it's a film tie-in. xd

I enjoyed The Children of Hurin is all its depressing glory. Hehe. Also almost finished with The Silmarillion, which I'm enjoying.
There are two scenes I want to try to paint in my own version: The fight between Morgoth and Fingolfin, and the fight between Gil-Galad and the Balrog. :3

I dislike Turin. He is a whiner who runs away, thus making it worse for himself and those around him.

You know, one of the first things in the credits after each movie is: "Based on the books by JRR TOLKIEN." At first, I had no idea they were books, nor of Tolkien. Until I saw the credits. Once I bought and read all five books, LOTR really became a giant part of who I was. They are amazing. The silmarillion was one of the most hardest reads EVER. But it is worth reading. If you have read this book, you can confidently say you know more about LOTR than most fans. For Sauron would not have existed without Morgoth.

Its tolkien's initials all in one. the t and the j are connected in the middle and the two rs are one on each side. ill have to get a picture of it to show u guys. I agree...The Silmarillion was hard to read but in the end u learn more about middle earth than u ever knew about urself.

The Lord of the Rings is not a trilogy. they are actually 7(19 books if u count The Unfinished Tales books 1 and 2,Silmarillions, The Children of Hurin. Tales from the Perilous Realm, and all 10 of the History books(i will not say all the titles it would take up to much room.) ) The Hobbit, The fellowship books 1 and 2, The two Towers books 3 and 4, the return of the King books 5 and 6. J.R.R. Tolkien just edited them in to 4 books.
