"Thanks, Myles. So we've got some who like it, and some who dislike it. Let's hear from you, ladies and gents."

Happy new year, ladies and gentlemen of Crosshaven. Hope y'all got your blackeyed peas, and other New Year's traditions taken care of, today, so you can get things started off on the right track.

Now I've got a question for all of my loyal listeners.

Call in and tell me: What are your New Year's Resolutions?

The motel alarm clock goes off, and Hazel sits straight up in bed. She supposes it's a good thing she's not one of those people who sleeps through every attempt to wake them, but she still hates the moment of disorientation brought on by coming fully awake all at once.

As she gets her bearings, the sounds from the radio begin sinking into her brain. "Hmmm...New Year's Resolutions, huh?"

She's always loved those talk shows, so when the deejay gives the number, she decides to call in. She just hopes the motel doesn't charge too much for outside calls.

"Hi there, and thanks for calling the Morning Mayhem show. I'm Hergo, your host, and DJ, and will be happy to broadcast your New Year's Resolutions to the entire city. Might we have your name, and resolutions, sil vous plait?"

Slightly flustered at being 'on-air', it takes Hazel a moment to respond. "A-ah, hi. My name's Hazel Orton, and I don't usually make resolutions, but this year I'm hoping to save enough money to buy a car. Of course, that'd be easier if I had a job, so if anyone listening wants to hire me, that'd be great." She chuckles a bit, nervously.

She lets out a breath and laughs silently at herself. No matter how many times she's called in to one show or another, she still gets nervous when it comes time to actually speak.

"Welcome to Crosshaven, Miss Orton, and I hope you have a great year... Hang on, please," Heather said. "Keep calling in, lovely people, and up now for your listening pleasure: Semisonic with "This Will Be My Year."

Once the music had started, Heather turned back to the phone. "So, Miss Hazel Orton, what can you do?"

"I want to find a scoop for the Crosshaven times that will blow this little town AWAY!" Says a eccatic Natsuki, followed by a click.

"That's a resolution?" Heather asked her audience. "She wants to find a scoop that would blow the town away... That's more like an ambition... Hey, Miss Natsuki, why don't you call back with an actual resolution. And of course, we're still taking the resolutions of anyone who's brave enough to go on air. We'll have more callers after this song. Counting Crows with 'Long December.'"

((I always thought that a resolution was something of a personal promise... You RESOLVE to find a scoop that would blow Crosshaven away... Heh... Even if you have to search under rocks... Which I hear can be really dangerous in some areas.))

"Every now and again, while doing irreverent morning show stuff, I have to stop and do something serious," Hergo said, comming back on the air after Long December. "And now is one of those times... Here is the latest news blurb for the interested citizens of Crosshaven.

'The Governor has received compromising photos of his father in the mail. The former governor, who died two months ago, is pictured in sexual situations with an undisclosed female. Enclosed was a threatening letter warning the governor not to run for office again, threatening exposure of the photos to the press. The governor has decided to come out and acknowledge the existence of the threats, but believes the photos are computer-generated frauds. There is no other evidence linking the late Governor Nevermore to the female, or the situations depicted.'

And there by ends Crack Radio's wild speculation of the content of those photos. Sorry, Blasphemi.

'There was a break-in at the Crosshaven Labs, believed to be perpetrated by young people looking for kicks. The young people managed to breach the security system and program a lockdown that trapped more than a dozen people inside.'

Apparantly, the people have all gotten out safely with the help of the local authorities.

'Elenca' (whoever that might be) 'is still on the prowl, and is to be considered dangerous. If she approaches you, do not violently resist or provoke her, as guns now seem to have little or no effect. As soon as you are free of her, make a call to the constable and report the incident. The Constable is working on a plan to capture her and bring her to justice.'

A description would have been nice for those of us who has never encountered this mysterious woman.

'Convicted felon Nevi Nevermore has been released from prison. Nevermore served a five year commuted sentence after being found guilty of participating in organized crime, running an underground gambling establishment, and fixing fights. The Governor said only of his brother that he is the disowned black sheep of the family, and not to be trusted by the community at large.'

Aaaand I wish I known this, before I offered to rent the apartment in my duplex to him and his girlfriend... I really need to subscribe to the paper...

ANYway, back to the subject at hand... I'm still trolling for New Year's Resolutions. Got any? Call 'em in to 1-800-555-WTMI. I'm also taking requests, and any local traffic calls."
