"Just goes to show that you two were meant to be paired up, I guess." Lucien settled for as bland a response as possible, since doing otherwise would've caused the small smile hovering about his mouth to turn into a full-out laugh at the scene Dar had painted with her words. Heidi not knowing what she was, and yet transforming uncontrollably into her WEAPON form...
The smile twitched. "Z is always a challenge, yes." He didn't feel any need to elaborate - the man's actions over the past few minutes added to all the other facts that Dar now had about Z was enough, in Lucien's opinion. Lifting a spoonful of his ice-cream, he grinned, pretending it was a glass and tipping it her way. "Cheers," his green eyes sparkled in amusement, "To us, the TECHNICIANS who handle such difficult WEAPONS!" It was all said in good cheer, and intended mostly as a joke. Lucien was more than aware that Heidi and Z were in earshot, but he couldn't pass up the chance to get back at the man for the vanilla comment. Besides, perhaps it would lighten the mood somewhat, and turn Heidi's attention back to himself.
It wasn't because Lucien wanted the attention, but rather, it was because he knew Heidi's flirty tone would rub Z the wrong way, and his "ticking bomb" title wasn't unearned. The WEAPON had an unfortunate habit of reacting first, and not even bothering to think after.
Indeed, Z was reacting, but not the way Lucien had anticipated - though that particular response was not far behind. At Heidi's words, Z had burst out in almost uncontrollable laughter, the deep rumbling carrying through the room once again, and causing Aren to glance their way in curiosity. "Lucien, with a boyfriend?" Amusement still all too evident on his face, the WEAPON leaned forward to put his face inches away from Heidi. "Honey," the single word was purred slowly, softly, and it was all too evident why Aren found him attractive, "in Lucien's case, you're just plain wrong - I can't figure out if it's jealousy or blindness. But in my case..." Contrary to popular opinion, Z was selective about his companions, but he could take a page out of Lucien's book now and then. The tip of his tongue slipped out, sensually dampening his lower lip in an action that was designed to catch Heidi's attention and imagination, "There is no such thing as the wrong team."
Satisfied that he'd most likely gotten the result he'd wanted, Z leaned back, picking up his spoon and resuming his enjoyment of the ice-cream as though nothing had happened. Only the slightest hint of a smirk around his lips indicated anything had occurred at all.
"Vanilla ice-cream?" Lucien had overheard the entire exchange between Z and Heidi, but Z was who he was, and Lucien wasn't about to apologize for his partner. Particularly in light of the fact that Heidi's assumptions had been wrong, and she had made an idiot out of herself... again. It was simply Z's way, to purposely poke and prod at others, and apologizing or trying to cover it would only serve to make Z even more outrageous. So he turned his full attention back to Dar, and shrugged. "Yeah, it's an inside joke." Sort of. But if Dar didn't understand the significance of vanilla in a sexual context, then Lucien definitely wasn't going to be the one to explain it to her.
"What's your plans after Nomnomnom?"

Dar just nodded over her almost gone soda. There wasn't too much to say to Lucien's comment. It WAS true, they seemed to be made for each other, and even though her and Heidi's personalities didn't quite mesh, they had some areas that overlapped enough to make one not only tolerable, but quite likable to the other. Despite her idiotic boy-crazy tendencies, Dar had a grudging respect for Heidi's normal people skills, and her general ease of manners.
Heidi glanced over at them, again wanting to argue how difficult she definitely was not, but held her tongue. Well, it wasn't worth it anyway, she'd get Dar back later on. Turning back to Z, she blinked a few times, a blank look taking over her tan, pretty face. She was very dumb sometimes, and this was no exception. She couldn't figure out if Z was mocking her or...really mocking her. It had been a long time since her antics hadn't worked on someone, so she found it hard to believe that he was so mean.
She decided just to let it go, a bit of pink coming to her cheeks.
"Oh, ok..." Dar said, furrowing her eyebrows a little. She wasn't sure what about vanilla ice cream could possibly be funny, or inside joke worthy. Maybe...she had no answer come to mind. He had seemed a bit annoyed at whatever the suggestion was, and her quick mind came to the conclusion that there was some sort of inappropriate or embarrassing story behind it. Maybe when she knew him better, she could push it, but in the middle of Nomnomnom wasn't t he place, she guessed.
"I think we're splitting up after Nomnomnom," Dar said, looking over to her blond WEAPON, who nodded. "I have a dark seedy alley to go to," she said, laughing a bit. Heidi used to joke that Dar would slink off without her and she could have only been up to no good, because Dar never wanted Heidi around whenever she went on these little trips. Heidi's only conclusion was that she must be selling kidneys in an alley.
"And I'm going to go shopping," Heidi said chipperly. But then...when was she not chipper about clothing?

The blank look on Heidi's face did not slip past Z, and the WEAPON almost laughed out loud - except he caught Lucien's eye at the last minute. It wasn't that he was worried Lucien wouldn't approve of him making a fool out of Heidi (not that it would have stopped him in any case) but there was a glint in his partner's eyes that said he had better things up his sleeve. He settled instead for snorting, the sound half muffled by the ice-cream he'd just placed into his mouth. It was not the reaction he'd been expecting when he'd put on his little show, designed to push Heidi to some sort of edge, but it was a reaction nonetheless. One that told him it would be pointless wasting his time on such a girl.
Turning back to Daria, Z was just in time to catch the confused look on her face as she responded to Lucien's comment on 'vanilla'. "Vanilla means plain, boring." He took out the sexual references, figuring he'd stirred up enough of a hornet's nest for the day, and for some reason, he found himself respecting Dar's blatantly uninterested innocence. It made for a refreshing change from everyone else.
It figured that Heidi was going to so shopping - normally, Lucien would have offered to accompany her out of principle (because flirty, attention-seeking girls were the easiest to manipulate, in his opinion), and on the off-chance that he'd find some interesting tidbits of information, but...
This time, strangely enough, it was Z who spoke up, though for what reason, only Z knew. "Shopping? For what?"
"A dark seedy alley?" Amusement and curiosity was ripe in Lucien's voice as he spoke up after the two had answered his question, as Z had fallen back to his ice-cream, eating surprisingly daintily for such a rough-edged sort of guy. "You'd think it was more to Z's taste, but I like those." The amusement manifested in a grin, and Lucien leaned closer. "So, what are you planning to do there?"

If Dar disagreed with Z about Lucien being boring, she didn't comment, deciding it best to hold her tongue. She felt sure that he must not be referring to the TECHNICIAN'S personality, since Lucien had proven (this far, anyway) to be rather interesting. She smirked a bit, raising her eyebrow, but continued to hold her silence on the 'vanilla' matter.
"Shoes," she said, clapping her hands together briefly. She needed a new pair for the Halloween party that was coming up, and although what she planned to get (anything designer) wouldn't match her costume itself, she couldn't imagine going to a huge party without a new pair of shiny shoes. "I think I'm also going to pick up a couple CDs or something." Heidi almost wanted to look for a few books, but she didn't like answering the question 'oh, what are you getting?' (or 'you read?!?', which seemed to come with equal frequency), especially when she was holding a stack of Romance novels.
The red-head weapon couldn't help but laugh, a slightly squeaky and embarrassingly girly laugh (but really, the only thing remotely girly about her, and something she attributed to still being rather young). "Oh, it's hard to say what I'll do from day to day," she said, rolling her eyes a bit. "Some days we farm kidneys from unsuspecting dummies, other days we, uh..." She couldn't actually come up with anything equally ridiculous to pair with stealing kidneys. Dar shrugged. "Actually, I just sort of do my own thing." Dar had actually found an old VW Bug abandoned on the outskirts of Death City, and had been fixing it up. She had been working on it for a few months now, buying parts when she could afford it, reading books about mechanics and engines and hiking the 5 mile distance out when there was time between classes, missions and her and Heidi's partying lifestyle. She knew that if she had told Heidi about it, her WEAPON would have given her the money she needed to fix it up (probably even the money to have someone ELSE fix it up). But Dar liked the feeling of doing the hard work.
And the secret she held from Heidi.

Z's bland "Oh," alerted Lucien to his partner's reason for asking Heidi about her shopping habits, but by then, it was too late. Just as the TECHNICIAN opened his mouth to caution Z against it, the WEAPON had already spoken his thoughts out loud.
"It's too bad. I thought might be shopping for a new brain, or something."
Lucien sighed. The words, said with a sardonic twist to the lips, showed Z's utter contempt for his fellow WEAPON. Apparently his implication that he'd get back at Heidi later hadn't quite been enough to stop Z from running his mouth. No matter - now he wouldn't have to go through the trouble of actually thinking up a suitable prank.
As though he'd said nothing out of the ordinary, Z finished off his ice-cream with relish, ignoring everyone else with unconscious indifference.
Eyeing his partner, Lucien shook his head, and turned his attention back to Daria. Heidi would either get the implication in Z's words, or she wouldn't. There wasn't much to be done about it now, and at the very least he could attempt to pull Daria's attention away from his partner's rough words.
He leaned a little closer to Daria with a charming smile, and all but purred, "Well, if it's just stealing kidneys and doing your own thing, then I guess I'm not invited, huh?"

Heidi fluttered her long blonde (but mascara-ed) eyelashes testily. Well! Even if he wasn't interested in her (an almost unheard of concept!), he could at the very least be POLITE. She flicked a light smile at Z, and purred.
"Oh, but I'd heard around town you'd already run through the supply of them. I hear you..." she paused, lingering on the word, hoping that the meaning wasn't lost on him, and still went over Dar's head. She found her partner's innocence endearing, and generally tried not to enlighten her in that regard. "Burn out quite quickly. Almost...prematurely, one might say."
Was Heidi, most of the time, a moron? Yes. All the time, though? No. At the very least, she had honed her skills for recognizing insults, and tried to give back as good as she received.
Dar was, in the meantime, trying her hardest not to notice or hear the two and focus on Lucien.
She couldn't help but lean back a tiny bit, as he leaned close to her. Dar tried, but she still was never fully comfortable with personal space, or overlap of it.
The redhead TECHNICIAN laughed lightly. "Oh, if you're interested, you can come. There's...a lot of work involved, though." She didn't care if he knew what she was doing, but she still wouldn't tell Heidi. She probably could have given good hints, and her WEAPON wouldn't have picked up, but she couldn't risk it.
She shrugged. "I think it's pretty fun, but it's not for everyone." It would sound very disturbing, she imagined, if someone thought she was actually talking about kidneys still.

Concentrating on his ice-cream, Z missed the flicker of expressions on Heidi's face, only aware of the other WEAPON's voice droning on in the background. He finally tuned in when the purring voice paused, the broken cadence catching his attention - "Burn out quite quickly. Almost... prematurely..."
Z snorted, lifting and turning his head towards Heidi. There was blatant amusement lurking in his purple eyes as he leaned back, considering. He didn't much care what Heidi (or anyone else) thought about him, so the intended insult did nothing to his self-confidence, but the opportunity to bait Heidi further was too irresistible. It was a bit like playing with fire - he couldn't help it.
Abruptly, the WEAPON leaned forward, lips brushing next to Heidi's ear, and whispered, "Who gives a s**t about the word around town? I'm still more in demand than you'll ever be." He was close enough that the breath from his words caressed softly over skin, and with the faintest of smirks, his tongue darted out and slid softly along the curve of the other WEAPON's ear.
Laughing softly to himself, Z stood, waved nonchalantly to Lucien, and left the table with a cheeky "See ya, Dar. It was nice to meet you, if nothing else." At the door, he tossed the amused-looking Aren a wicked grin, and disappeared outside.
It took effort for Lucien to keep his face blank as he watched Z's antics out of the corner of his eye. He returned Z's wave with one of his own, and turned back to Dar. Work? What was out there that required work? The "seedy alleys" and backroads of the city were more Z's territory, but Lucien was no stranger to the poorer areas. His interest piqued, he nodded and smiled. "Sure, why not?" and rolled his eyes for emphasis, "looks like Z ditched me, anyway."
Z had probably left because he'd gotten bored of the game, but there was no way Daria would know that. Besides, with his partner gone, perhaps Heidi would leave too - the WEAPON's attitude incited nothing but contempt in Lucien.

Heidi's face was burning read, and to any normal bystander, it might appear that the proximity to the young man was making her flustered. To Dar, though, who knew her, she could tell what it was.
Pure white hot fury.
Her WEAPON was pissed. Dar had no clue what he'd said to her, but it was obviously contemptible. A little dazed, Dar waved a quick goodbye to Z.
"Uh, yeah..." she managed to trail before he was gone. She glanced at Heidi, who was silently fuming in her chair.
The blond girl stood up.
"Heidi?" Midnight blue eyes flashed at Dar, but Heidi didn't say a word. "Er...ok...bye." She watched as Heidi turned and quick stepped out, slamming the door. The last thing Dar heard, as Heidi walked off was a string of cussing.
"I'm sure an afternoon of shopping will calm her down," Dar offered, shrugging nervously. Heidi was never one to hold back, she wore her emotions on her sleeve, but Dar had yet to see her this angry.

Ah, she left. Heidi's beet red face had been an amusing sight - giving Lucien a very good insight into what Z must've whispered into her ear - and from the way she'd all but run out the door, it looked like Z had just reinforced his "ticking bomb" title once again. He inwardly hoped that the girl wouldn't be stupid enough to try and get back at his partner, but from what he could tell of Heidi's character, chances were slim.
Maybe what Z would do to her wouldn't upset Dar further. Maybe.
Lucien turned back to Dar, an eyebrow raising slightly at the other's nervous shuffling. "Hopefully." He made no mention of his inner musings, continuing instead in a mildly apologetic tone, "Z's reputation is well-earned, as you can see... he's not easy to get along with and tends to poke buttons just for fun."
Eyeing the last of his icecream, the TECHNICIAN sighed and put down his spoon. "I'm not really a big fan of vanilla ice-cream. Shall we go, then?"
