With the ...camera... on the ground, and no one else waving something potentially dangerous at him, James finally relaxed and cautiously sheathed his cutlass. His flintlock he would not put up just yet. If one of those large things looked like it wanted to argue with him, the pistol would probably be far more handy than the blade.
He turned to glance at the oddly dressed gentleman beside him, trying to still keep an eye on the woman. That inquiry had him patting down his coat and sash, and finally sighing as he remembered, he kept both at his desk. "Ah. Those would be back on my ship. Where ever the hell that is." His shoulders slumped a bit as he took another look around. A pair of little girls dressed in the strangest clothes he'd ever seen, other people equally oddly dressed, the creatures.
At least this fellow had a decent attitude and a sensible style of dress. "I don't suppose you have the faintest idea of what's going on here?"

Valerie was feeling a little better after the man stopped pointing his weapon at her, and after looking around for a few seconds bent down to pick up her camera, putting it back in her bag where it would be safe. This was entirely strange.
"I have a cell phone with GPS." She said hesitantly to the two strange men, walking towards them. Seemed their best chance was going to be working together. She pulled out her iPhone, and got nothing. No signal, no network. "Never mind." She said in a dull voice. "Apparently it doesn't work in dream land." She frowned and shook her head, tossing the iPhone back into her bag carelessly.
She glanced back around, seemed the dragon-lady had taken to the children. Somewhere in the back of Valerie's mind she wondered if the thing wanted to eat them, but she had more pressing matters at hand, considering the creature seemed friendly. Friendlier than either of the men she was currently speaking to.
She pinched her arm, growing a little weary of the dream, but it seemed her body was content to not wake up. She grumbled and walked away, sitting outside of the box she had woken up in and preparing a new hit.

"Ah. Pity." Edward sighed as the sailor searched his pockets and failed to turn up a compass of some kind. He shook he head slowly in response to James's question. Politely he moved his cane to his left hand and extended his right in introduction. "I'm terribly sorry but I am as baffled by this unusual turn of events as you are, good sir. I am Edward Jameson by the by."
He'd wait for the pirate to either shake his hand or turn him down before unfolding the map once again. "I do however have this map. I just have no way of ensuring our direction. As you can see, there seems to be a settlement over here. It seems the safest place for us to head. No doubt there is a person or persons there capable of explaining our situation to us there, and perhaps even conveyance home."
As he spoke the unusual woman picked up the device she had dropped and placed it back in her back. He wondered idly what it was. He'd never seen anything quite like it before, whatever it was. As she spoke he looked up to her and wrinkled his brow in confusion. "And what, pray tell, is a gee pee ess?" He asked no one in particular. She was already muttering something about dream land and taking a seat by her cell. He blinked.
He might have been old fashioned, but he knew fine well what heroin was. He tutted and rolled his eyes. "Filthy habit that." He complained as he pulled out his pipe and tobacco and combined the two with as much care and ritual as she took with her drug of choice.

He shook Edward's hand, nodding in response to the introduction. "Pleasure to meet you. Circumstances could be better though." James quipped. "I'm James Sparrow."
He peered over at the map, examining the areas as they were pointed out. "Have to agree with you there. At least there will be shelter there." James had no intentions of using the cells as shelters. Who knew what would happen if he went back in that thing.
He glanced warily at the girl as she pulled out another strange device, relaxing a bit as she tossed it back in her bag. He had no idea what those things were.
At least the creatures were leaving them alone now.

"Quite right. Much better, I am sure." Edward agreed grimly when James remarked on their circumstances. He would certainly much rather be back home. He would have even happily stayed at that ghastly party if it meant not being where he was right now. He glanced around at all the strange beings with a sigh. "I think shelter would be a very good idea. I'm a bit concerned as to what may happen if we stay here. Besides, there doesn't appear to be any reliable food source here. The settlement appears to be near a river so perhaps at least there will be fish, if not actual agriculture." He theorised thoughtfully. The Victorian folded the map away. It was still all for nothing if they didn't know where they were going exactly.
"At least whoever brought us all here saw fit to provide us with supplies." He clucked his tongue a little and looked to the chests. They wouldn't starve or die of thirst for a while. They had warmth and suitable equipment for a few nights in the wild. It had been a while since he had last been on safari. In an odd way, he was looking forward to their trek to the village. But now what they had to do was get the attention of the others and convince them to follow. "What we need is a good leader." he voiced his thoughts contemplatively.
--
Hin flexed its slender back and smiled out of the window. Its grey skin caught the light as dawn began to break in the distance. It was going to be a beautiful day. It was usually a beautiful day at this time of year. It was looking forward to working today, one of the younglings was almost fully healed and Hin, a general medic for its unit, was optimistic that today would be the day it could remove the inhibitor from the child's arm. The break had so far healed nice and straight. Its kind were always getting breaks as children and even through adulthood. Zanlar are notoriously fragile physically.
Hin lifted the bottle of hanos wine to its lips, savouring the velvet texture and the light film left on the roof of its mouth. Hanos wine was its biggest vice. It was quite addicted and had been for several years now. it supposed if the others knew just how much it drank they may try to stop it, so it drank at home where no others could see it. At least it didn't interfere with its tasks, the unit really needed a general medic.
It leaned against the window frame and let its almond eyes focus on the swirling colours of the sunrise. Its species saw beyond the visual range of humans, so far more colours joined in the silent dance for it than for the less blessed species. Beautiful, truly beautiful. An unexpected flash of blue startled and blinded it and it blacked out, falling to the floor.
When it woke it was in a metal box. It lay still in confusion. A soft hiss let in more light as the door opened. Pulling itself up to its full and impressive height it stepped out into the sun and looked around. What on earth was going on here? Such an unfamiliar place caused it to stop and stare for a while before it spotted the chest. Long, slender legs crouched down and it peered inside cautiously. One by one it lifted the items inside without even touching them, turning them in the air to examine them using its telekenesis.

It was a gray and damp early dawn. The marsh was cooler than normal with the tall, ground hovering fog that spread in a dense, cloudy blanket. The pale light of morn barely touched the dark ground, the slate gray of water inlets contrasted against the thick black of the soft marshy ground and ebon charred trees that jutted at odd angles. It was a scarce land where few things moved, one would be surprised to find anything alive in this dark forsaken place.
A flash flock of fluttering black things about the size of a human head swirled madly from out of the fog and up into the sky. The last trail of them came from a cave to the left that had once been silent and not noticeable among the rock face that seemed to stretch far out to where the gray sea lay silent and looming beyond the dank, musty marsh.
Several mad squawking, chattering, hisses came still from the mouth of that dark crevice, barely large enough to fit through sideways. If one hadn't known what to look for, they never would have seen the creature standing just next to the cave entrance. Perhaps the pair of small golden rings, that stood out loudly against the black and grays of the world, would attract ones attention, floating where they shouldn't. Those yellow things, blinked.
Eyes. They were harshly narrowed with the vertical pupils open to let in light as they regarded a net full of the flying black things. Indiscernible the catch was, with their flailing. Half because of the fog that rolled ceaselessly and half because the mass of them were in movement within the net. The figure snapped into action, satisfied with the catch, whipping the lot of them against the rock face time and again mercilessly until all of them went silent.
The hunter had won. Turning to stalk back to the tribe the black dinosaur looking thing that stood upright on it's hind legs, slung the net over his back. At at the same moment a flash of blue light filled the area leaving everything undisturbed, the marsh silent and the hunter... gone.
~~~
"Rnnnaanglennffshh!!!!"
In the solid black there was nothing but noise and short echo of frustrated growls and strange roars and the -shing- of claws on metal. Walls.. where there were never walls so close and so smooth, they had instantly closed in tight. Sparks of light flashed as his sharpening talons slashed at the strange slippery surface. The creature within definitely had gone mad try to tear its way out ceaselessly for hours having gone on in furious confusion like this. Finally exhausting itself the thing slumped and when it slept, it never would have known how much time had actually passed before it once more awoke, curled in a corner, to the jolt of the box landing. It lifted it's head curiously still nothing but solid black.
Suddenly light blinded the thing as the box hissed finally, making the creature growl in displeasure and curl up tighter in the corner ready to spring and attack in mad fury whatever found its way in here. Whoever had done this, was going to pay. The scars and gouges on the walls within clearly told of the wrath the lizard like thing had unleashed in it's fury. All in scattered directions, covering every inch. A net lay strewn and frayed. Dust and pieces of bones of things that once were, was strewn about the floor.
He never got to eat the things. He would have smelled them rotting, should have woken just from the stench but he could not remember ever waking. Obviously he'd been in this thing for some time if the bones were all that was left. A strange box thing appeared at the front of his cage past the shrinking sliding wall and lifting his head to narrow one cold, golden eye at the thing, he dropped his head back down comfortably. That was all the regard he gave to it, he wasn't having any part of any of it. If they dared intrude on him he'd kill them until they killed him. He was one angry beast and his muscles already seemed sore from lack of use.
"A GPS. It stands for global positioning satellite. It's a small computer that can tell you where you are in the world using latitude and longitude." She glanced down for a moment, sinking the needle into her vein and letting the drug pump into her system.
She put her things away before standing back up, squinting she looked around. "Seems like we're stuck here together." She shrugged her shoulders and walked back over to where the two men were talking, glancing at the strange alien and the children once more, and the new gray alien. Apparently there was a lot of life out there.
"Soo... you guys must be from the past. Or... I am in the past in my dream which would make me from the future. Or we are all in the very distant past or very distant future which could prove... dangerous." She frowned deeply, her eyes darting around a bit as if she was suspicious of their surroundings.
"Well... we have a Captain. Captains typically lead adventures, don't they?" She shrugged her shoulders and sized up James. "Maybe, assuming this isn't some crazy dream, which it most definitely is, we've been brought here to serve some purpose. In which case they would want us to get where they wanted us to and would equip us with someone able to bring us there." She gestured towards James once more.
