*Lex staggers slowly to the front of the assembled students, rubbing his head, and trying to ignore the dizziness. A week-long illness had taken its toll on both himself and more importantly, his campaign. Now, however, he had a chance to save it in, he hoped, one well placed speech. Taking an Advil and a drink of Pepsi, he looked into the crowd, and gathered his thoughts together. Then he began to speak.*
Friends . . . students . . . trusted comrades. I come to you to ask not that you vote for me. I come to ask that you vote for a leader. *Thus indirectly, he WAS asking for them to vote for himself, as he would make clear*
My opponents . . . and do not get me wrong. They are both fine, excellent people with their own merits and virtues. But are they leaders? Will voting for them bring glory to this school as a leader can? Both are fine, exemplary, and rather popular people. But come now, my friends. This is no popularity contest. Our school is not the ONLY one of its kind, you know. But we have a finer school than that . . . Academy, and we have a chance to prove it. Let a leader prove it.
