Yea I agree, he may be crazy and evil but he is brilliant.

On an interesting note, I've never actually watched the CoS movie before, so I'm commenting all of this based on the book and whatever doujinshi I have at end. So when I comment anything about his looks, you can be well-assured that I'm not talking about the actor in the movie. biggrin

My first impression of Tom Riddle was probably that of disgust and hatred of him due to the fact that he was playing a 'black' character, an outright villian. I didn't view him as a fellow human as I was perhaps biased towards the fact that he was 'Voldemort', the ultimate baddie.

However, after reading some rather convincing essays regarding the nature of Tom's (eccentric may not correct word here. I lack the correct word) behaviour, I took up the task of rereading the HBP (in which I had thrown aside in disgust after going through the horrifying pages of Ron/Lavender) and realised that there was actually some justification to his behaviour.

True enough, my first impression of him was utterly shattered. I began to see Tom as someone who was actually the opposite of Harry- one who had simply taken the dark path, as opposed to Harry taking the side of good. I reasoned that he was like Harry- or perhaps is would be a more correct word- only that he made a bad decision.

Yes, you read right. Lord Voldemort, a bad decision.

However, Harry could've gone down the exact same road if he had decided to take Malfoy's invitation in that very first book (and decided not to mix around with the 'riffraff' aka Ron and Hermione), he might have been another Lord Voldemort.

In a nutshell, I think Tom Riddle is simply someone who made the wrong choice. Lord Voldemort simply reflects the decision he made.

(Please excuse my rant. I'm feeling particularly ranty today. biggrin )

he is an amazing character. brilliant, manipulative, charismatic... the perfect leader. :3
the main thing that i admire though, is just how far he will go to get what he wants. he thinks that people with "impure blood" should be eliminated? why wait for someone else to do it? he'll get his own merry band of followers and get on with it.

can't get any better then that. he is a true slytherin: not because he is the heir, nor because he is evil. he is a slytherin because of his personality traits.
