Tori san Neko Kafweenu Oh, gawd. In our band, if anyone outside you section touches equipment from you section, they die. So if a bandie just picked up a flag during rehearsal and started spinning it, whosever flag it was gets in trouble along with the bandie that was spinning it. rolleyes That's how it is with our lovely new sabres ... xP They even made us write our names on a piece of electrical tape that they stuck on there so they know who's it is if they catch a bando with it ... lol ^^
Although I'm not so sure our 'lovely new sabres' really look that new anymore ... or at least mine doesn't ... <<;; some of our flags have been used from years before and they were in BAAAD shape... there were strips of the fabric that were just hanging off...but there was nothing we could do confused

ehh...technically, I'm a bandie. XDDD I'm just using colorguard as my marching season guise to avoid having to march with flutes, who are already corrupting the system, or being drafted into pit and dying during band camp due to dehydration and sunburn. ((I'm a bassoonist))
But, I'm sticking to winterguard, since my family couldn't afford my 900$ a month rhythmic gymnastics training for nationwide compeitions. ((which was incredibly painful anyways.))
But, a lot of mellos do spin during winter, which is amazing.
This one trumpet guy once donned a traditional guard skirt for half an hour, twirling a flag. He wasn't that bad. XD

But, since that day, the guard has been reluctant to don the yellow skirts, preferring blue, purple, and pink instead. XDDD

one of my best friends is a bassoonist....she used to do guard (freshman year) so she wouldnt have to march piccolo.....but blah blah blah sith happened.
she marched piccolo this past season......next year tenor sax, year after: drummajor.

Slightly back on topic, we got a pit girl ((yesh)) to try flags. She was inspired. ^^ Until she got hit and seemed to drop dead. She was a..natural. XD

its funny seeing people trying it for the first time, and then they try spinning and they're like "its like this right??" and its sooo horribly wrong...or they're holding the flag at arms length, already terrified at getting hit XD

One day before a football game it was like a guard field day! I had a ton of people just come up and ask me if I was doing drop spins right. It was quite funny cause none of them were doing it right! XD
