Rock on.
Shotokan has it's roots in Okinawa doesn't it?

Hiya! I do shorin ryu karate. It's from okinawa. i'm pretty sure shotokan is also from okinawa.

No, Shotokan is Japanese, but Funakoshi, the founder, is Okinawan. As for my style, I'm a gokyu in Goju ryu.
congratulations, you're about half way to shodan ^_^
(can't remember atm...green w/ two stripes?)
What organization? Sho-Rei Kan, Sho-Rei-Shobu Kan, or another one?

I'm SRSBK myself.

Another one. My school used to teach Japanese Goju ryu from Gogen Yamaguchi but my instructor went to Okinawa for several years and started teaching Okinawan Goju ryu that was directly linked to Chojun Miyagi.
wow, he must be pretty old huh?
shihan roseberry, in lincoln has a certificate (i forget what rank it was for atm) from master toguchi (my SN name sake)

I never said that Miyagi trained her, I said that she knows Goju ryu with direct roots to Miyagi. I'm implying that she learned from a student of a student of Miyagi's nephew who had learned from Miyagi.

TKD is karate, just with altered dogi, altered terms in Korean, and flashier kicks. TKD came from Japanese and Okinawan karate during WWII, it isn't 2000 yrs old, it's only like 60-70 yrs old.

technically, any style that doesn't use weapons is karate, but that ends up just getting into semantics, so to avoid that TKD is TKD and karate is karate.

Very right. I've always known that karate is emtpy hand but never really thought of that (as in tkd could possibly be a form of karate). Taiko is a martial arts you should add it to the forum.

I'm talking about karate from Okinawa. TKD is just Shotokan or any Okinawan karate but altered. I don't think of it as an entirely different art at all because it's virtually the same thing with slight alterations.

Isn't Taiko a type of Japanese drumming?

I've heard of it as a type of drumming, not as a martial art.
