Turning around, noticing that he had someone following him...Deitra, he slowed his pace a little. "You need to unwind too?" Smiling, he looked out into the woods. "I've always found nature relaxing. In fact, I believe that I share something in common with many of these trees. Mostly that they are about the same age as I, hard to find something as ancient, and when I do I can't help but feel some sort of kinship."

"That's deep," she remarked absently, already absorbing into the trees circling the house. "They're really old," she added, returning a bit of herself to her body. "Older than you, I'd say," she continued with a knowing grin. She was trying to split her attention between the mutant and trees, but it had been a long time since she had been around nature like this and it was beginning to pull at her other self.

"Older than four hundred years old?" Glancing over to her, he realized that she really wasn't listening. Looking around, he glanced amongst the trees, feeling the metabolic energies of passing animals. Returning his gaze to Deitra, he raised a brow. "Are you still here?"

"Mostly," she replied with a smile. "I kind of lose myself when I'm around things like these. They're like...standing next to a mountain. I'm so tiny around them," she added, a touch of awe in her voice. She blushed after a moment, realizing what she had said. "Sorry, I get a bit idiotic at times," she apologized, still reaching out to the tree nearest them.

"Don't worry about it, it's not idiotic at all." Smiling, Sarek ran up the trunk of the tree Deitra was touching a few steps before grabbing a branch and swinging up onto a perch upon which he could sit. Once up, he looked up to the moon as he said, "In fact, what you just said is rather wise. You just proved your humility, and showed respect for something great and powerful. Nature is the most powerful thing on this planet. Mankind has been fighting nature since it first began it's life. Mankind is the only thing to raise it's hand against it's creator, because it wasn't willing to accept it's place. Even we are byproducts of nature's wheel, I mean as mutants. When something pushes against it, it pushes back harder, every time. By respecting these trees, you prove that you are wise."
((I have no damn clue where this speech came from by the way))

Deitra stared up at him, blinked, then shrugged. "Okay, I think I got most of that," she admitted, lowering a branch down for easy access. Raising herself up to Sarek's height, she grinned. "I like trees," she said simply, with an accompanying shrug. "They're easy to understand."

Sarek couldn't help but chuckle has he keep his gaze on the moon above, brushing some of his silvery hair around his shoulder, when in moonlight it seemed to shimmer a little. "And I suppose that I'm not. Speaking in riddles comes with old age I'm afraid, it's a little unavoidable." Staring off into the distance, he sighing, "Though I must also admit, it also comes when you are away from battle, so one has time to think."

"I try not to think too much. I get far too depressed when I do," she admitted, playing with the leaves on the branch she was resting on, leaning against the wide trunk easily. It was quite literally impossible for her to fall - she was an extension of the tree at the moment, or vice-versa. "I doubt I'll get to be as old as you, so I don't have to worry about talking weird," she added cheerfully.

"Don't say that now. You're linked to plants, and am probably a fraction of one yourself. If you take after trees, then instead of becoming more decrepit as you age, you'll become more powerful and more magnificent as you age. After all, there are trees older than me." Again, Sarek couldn't help but laugh. "It just depends how you view life. Again, as you get older you either get more optimistic or more pessimistic, and I try for optimism myself."

"Ah, so you think I'm magnificent!" Deitra laughed, taking the compliment easily. "I'd like to think I'm just going to turn into a tree one day, when my body refuses to go back," she began, then snapped her jaw shut. Too much said. "I wasn't being pessimistic about not living as long as you - I don't want to talk all weird," she added quickly.

Sarek shook his head side to side. "It's alright, it's good to think about the possibilities that lay before you, no matter what they are. It gives you a better perspective of yourself. Trust me, at one point, I was in a horrid position, worse than one could imagine. I've fought in many wars, and taken many lives. I've been looked at as a demon, witch, wizard, angel, and even a god. I've lived enough lives for at least five people. I've been a king and a slave, a noble and a peasant, a soldier and a commander, a victim and a harbinger. All together, I'd have to say that the only thing that I can look back on and regret upon is that I've outlived all of those dear to me."

"So...you're like a crock pot," Deitra reasoned. "Keep it going long enough and eventually you'll get a decent meal. Or person, in your case. No offense about the eventually part," she added hastily, petting the tree as well. No one had regarded her as anything but a freak, save a few, but she declined to offer up that.

"No offense taken, trust me. It's a rather good metaphor for my life." Sighing, he looked down and closed his eyes. "I've just been trying to find balance in my life. Most are blessed with a short life, but I'm not at all able to claim such. Most strive for long life not realizing how good they have it." Again he sighed, "The hardest part was trying to start up a new life after every thirty years or so. After enough time, I just gave up."

Once Deitra left, Katrina trotted to the bathroom, taking the time to clean her wounds. They weren't bad, but the scent of her own blood was beginning to make her dizzy. She found some peroxide in one of the bathroom cabinets and used it to disinfect her cuts, gritting her teeth tightly as she did so. "Man, that smarts," she grumbled. Shoving the bottle back in the cabinet, Katrina then tested out her arm, stretching it experimentally. Sarek had done a wonderful job of healing it; it wasn't even sore now. "I could prebably fly again, no problem," she said quietly to herself. Eagerly the shifter dashed to the nearest window and tugged it open, a difficult feat for someone with so little strength as a human. She took a deep breath before transforming into a barn owl. After stretching her wings the same way she had with her arm, the owl launched herself out of the window, flapping her way towards the moon. How she loved flying. She loved the cool wind blowing through her feathers, and the way that everything seemed to shrink below her, even the tallest of trees. She loved how quiet and peaceful the sky was. Her favorite escape. And they call me a beast. But how can I be? Would a monster be able to appreciate such things? Katrina reasoned with herself, recalling her latest night terror. But she sighed, knowing such thoughts were pointless, for the answer would always be yes in both the human's eyes and her own.

Mat chuckled to himself after a few moments as he heard something open the window and fly out. "Heh guess that means I gotta hold down the fort. Yup just me, the outcast, nobody and over all electrical hazard." Giving a rather bored sigh, Mat went to the couch and laid on it. His head wandered as he stared at the little dots on the ceiling.
An old man in dirty and torn clothes smiled down at him and ruffled his hand through the young boy's hair. "See here now my boy, you need to grow up to be a good young lad. That way people will like ya and you can start to really live out here. You wont be able to con your way out of everything. Hard work will come that you will need to do."
The small boy in the same kind of dirty and torn clothes nodded back and smiled, getting his hair ruffled again as the old man pointed to a young couple walking by. "But for now, we have to con to feed ourselves. So are ya ready Matty?"
"You bet gramps." Mat almost laughed at the old memory coming from nowhere. Hope your resting peacefully now Gramps. Don't know if I turned out alright or not but at least now I can do more then start that bonfire everyone huddled around.
